delete way WP:TOOSOON even though the local paper loves her [1], it is not enough. This nomination claim [2] for a book prize may be meaningless - many book prizes are open entry, i.e. anyone can be nominated. And there is no evidence that this one is different. Notable only if she wins (or is named to a finalist list) The one notable thing here is this book award [3] the Heart of Hawick Children's Book Award, given to authors of a first children's book, the competition consists of author talks in the ten lower schools of Hawick. The children then vote. In other words, the competition is a clever way to lure writers to invest several days talking to children, the children then vote for their favorite. Possibly a good teaching tool (and way to stretch the school budget) but not convinced that the prize is notable. Who knows, Hedgebugs may go big, but it's way too soon for an article on the illustrator.E.M.Gregory (talk) 16:40, 30 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The prize could probably give partial notability (if they'd won) but not full notability. You're right though, in that the award is one that anyone can be nominated for per this entry form. There are some requirements, mostly just that the book can only be nominated by an established publisher, it cannot be self-published, and it has to be in the set age range. Those are pretty low bars for entry as far as books go and the established publisher standard is fairly low as well since it doesn't really list the cut off for national sales. Many smaller publishers can still sell their books via a national online storefront like Amazon, so the bar for that is fairly low. In other words, an award win could give some slight notability but it wouldn't be enough to keep on that basis alone. It'd be about the same as if the newspaper had written a lengthy review for the work, as far as RS standards go on Wikipedia. I don't really see where the award is held in enough esteem to where it'd be the equivalent of say, the Stoker Award. Tokyogirl79 (｡◕‿◕｡) 03:39, 1 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
However that said, being shortlisted is different from just being nominated- a shortlist implies that they were on the list of people that were whittled down from the full pack of people. This still doesn't mean that the nomination will give her notability since only wins give notability. All a shortlist nomination means is that it's more likely that coverage will exist somewhere. Userfy/Draft or merge. I did manage to find a review from a non-blog source, but there's really not much out there. It also looks like the award from the Standard is fairly new- this source says that this is only the second time the paper is going to have given the award. Still, the Standard is a pretty big paper so I'd be willing to say that an award from them would be the equivalent of them giving the book a review. This means that if the book does win, the article could probably be moved back to the mainspace. I'm also open to the idea of merging this article with the [[Steve Wilson (presenter)|husband's article for the time being and redirecting there.
