re: creation of Atlanta Public Schools Board of Education page.

Thank you for your feedback; I agree that currently, all the information in the Atlanta Board of Education article could be encompassed within the Atlanta Public Schools page. However, I hope the article will be expanded and, when it is, there are two reasons why I think the page deserves to be separate:

First, in general, I believe city school boards deserve a page because they are the groups of elected officials who make decisions about large amounts of public funds and having Wikipedia pages on the subject increases the transparency of information and decreases the asymmetry of information re: both the elected officials and the office they hold.

Second, the Atlanta Board of Education has a fairly unique recent history, with turnover of 2/3 of the Board in the last election and a think a section on that era of the school board, in particular, is relevant. F.I.L.A. (talk) 20:39, 2 January 2017 (UTC)F.I.L.A.[reply]

FYI - when you redirected those templates, you accidentally redirected them to the *talk* pages of the new master template ([1], [2], [3]), causing transclusion issues. I have fixed the three redirects. However, many of the pages including the template are now doing so TWICE - you may want to take a look at that. JPG-GR (talk) 13:26, 7 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Photo request: McGovern Centennial Gardens

Hi, WhisperToMe. I have a request. Last time I was in Houston, I had the pleasure of visiting the McGovern Centennial Gardens. I created Wikipedia article stubs for all of the sculptures installed throughout the gardens. However, they are currently unillustrated. No rush, and no worries if you are unavailable or uninterested, but if you find yourself near the McGovern Centennial Gardens, I would very much appreciate you taking pictures of the sculptures there, and uploading them here at Wikipedia under fair use. There are 14 sculptures, all within a very close vicinity. There are 10 installed within the Hawkins Sculpture Garden:

McGovern also includes the statues: Confucius (2009), Dawn (1971), Mahatma Gandhi (2004), and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (2007). Whether or not you're able to help, I appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, and keep up the great work! ---Another Believer (Talk) 20:21, 25 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, many of the Lillie and Hugh Roy Cullen Sculpture Garden articles are also unillustrated. If you have any interest in museums, public art, gardens, sculpture, etc, and you've not visited these gardens, I highly recommend! ---Another Believer (Talk) 20:23, 25 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello WhisperToMe! There is currently an ongoing discussion on this hospital's talk page that has since been stagnate. Formerly two independent articles, Albert Schweitzer Hospital in Gabon and the current which was solely used for a hospital in Haiti that share the same name (both use French as an official language) has recently had the contents of Gabon's hospital merged with the Haiti article. Prior to the merge I did not even know it was taking place, for whatever reason. Opposing editor and I differ on whether the two hospitals are independent. More of this discussion can be found on its talk page. I would much appreciate a third opinion on the matter. Thank you kindly. Savvyjack23 (talk) 01:19, 27 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Someone else just approved it. Would still be very grateful for the category, template, and poster. Thanks.--79.179.101.6 (talk) 20:27, 16 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Montrose and Neartown merge?

Should the Houston Neartown article be merged into the Montrose article? Montrose seems to be the preferred description of the same area. The new signage calls the area Montrose, not Neartown. Newspapers and TV reports also refer to the area as Montrose, not Neartown. For what it is worth, I have not heard anyone refer to Montrose as Neartown in the last ten years. The closest article we have is Standardized Testing in Alberta, which mentions the Grade 6 PATs in the lede but doesn't currently discuss them in the body of hte article. Please archive your talk page. Please. (also Adak schools)

Hi. I came here to post a couple of links about the Adak schools. By the time the page finished loading, I'd almost forgotten.

Anyway, while one can't say this directly because it would be WP:SYNTH, the naval station's closure caused a major drop in population, and fewer people=fewer schools. This public health assessment says "In 1990, the Naval Complex was occupied by 5,600 people (2,800 military)...By March 31, 1997, most military personnel had left. April 1, 1997, Adak entered into caretaker status with a staff of 10 Navy personnel and approximately 200 civilians as contractor employees."

This EIR says there were 551 students and 37 teachers. By 2014, they only had 25 according to the city of Adak.

p.s. Please archive your talk page. BlackcurrantTea (talk) 07:35, 14 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Plainfield Community School Corporation requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organized event (tour, function, meeting, party, etc.), but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". Epps

I looked at your first couple of edits on the Epps article. That Buntin material has been in there for years. I never even noticed that it didn't have an infobox. I've never looked at it closely. I think the only thing I found interesting in his family life was his mom's position, which I noticed a couple of years ago. I'm guessing that he came from a very well educated household not much removed from the James Farmer/James Meredith era, in the Deep South, which was remarkable. I'll take a look at the rest. I spent a lot of time, which I really couldn't spare, bringing the Operation Mississippi Hustle up to date, interested in it mainly because of the corruption, and went back and forth from there. However, it was so tedious that I figured I'd get back to the Epps article when and if I had the time. I recall that you and I discussed the Parchman article maybe a couple of years ago. I was interested in the terracing of the farm (which might have been done with mules and plows, not all that many decades ago) from surface contour or aerial maps, and you noted the huge amount of acreage, I think. In the OMH article, I found a couple of mistakes of facts in the source articles. When I do that I often send a note to the reporters and they usually thank me and change them so the web version is correct. I'll go back and look at your subsequent edits and comments. Once again, thanks for your keen eye. Thanks much! P.S. I did some work on the Healy family article months ago, interested because of the Civil War era education of the mixed-blood children and their really remarkable professional success, which was only because they went to school in the NE and had careers there, D.C. and Canada, except for Michael, who was a Revenue Service (USCG) cutter captain. Activist (talk) 08:49, 27 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. I meant to correct the sentence length. Two or more reporters who covered the story mentioned that Epps would be doing almost 20 years. However, there was a typo in one story that was copied into Wikipedia about it: It said Wingate gave him "325" months. It was actually 235 months. Also, the reporter figured that as "19.7" years. Obviously, it rounds up to 19.6 years. The Gates story had video with a crawl that confirmed the 235 figure. Sheesh! I meant to check it on PACER, but hadn't gotten around to it. I don't like to download many docs because they don't charge you for under $15 worth per calendar quarter, and occasionally I pull transcripts which can get spendy. There's a class action suit right now about the (over)charges, and I was solicited to opt in or out of the class. Activist (talk) 10:12, 27 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
P.P.S. Whichever reporter or his paper that had written the story and had the typo, "325," rather than "235" months for the Epps sentence, spotted the mistake and not only corrected it in the original, for the Clarion-Ledger, but also for the wire services that picked up the story from Gannett or AP (Jimmie Gates or Jeff Amy, I think) and it's corrected everywhere I looked, so the Wikipedia article citations are now directing to revised, accurate stories. The article Consulate-General of Indonesia, Houston has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Consulates are not in general notable, and there is no indication that this one is any exception.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Per student costs in NJ district

This edit to the article for the Lower Cape May Regional School District quotes a report that says that the district was paying $50,000 per student, nearly triple the state average. The statement made no sense, both in terms of my knowledge of spending numbers in the state and the data from the 2014 Taxpayers' Guide to Education Spending cited in the Wikipedia article that says that the district spends $21,740 per pupil. A more careful read of the report shows that it cites this article as its source. What that article says is that the city of Cape May bears a disproportionate share of the costs of the district due to comparatively higher property rateables and fewer students as a percentage of the population than the other constituent municipalities, especially Lower Township. This has nothing to do with the cost of education for each student, which is not $50,000; what it has to do is with the equity of the funding formula in the district. I will edit the article to reflect the content of the source from the Cape May County Herald, not the report from the Center for American Progress that misinterprets that article. Good morning from Coreca, I'm writing to say hello and know how you are. I'm pretty good for now. I also write to ask you the usual help regarding the Corea Reefs page, if you can correct some grammatical or translation mistakes and give a more logical sense to the article. Then if you need me, I'll be delighted to translate what I'm most concerned about. a good greeting.--Luigi Salvatore Vadacchino (talk) 14:22, 4 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

New nav template layout for Society Hill

I am looking for feedback about the utility of this template (Template:Society Hill, Philadelphia). I attempted to edit its layout to better organize this template according to Society Hill Civic Association quadrants, but I resorted to just starting from scratch here: Template:Society Hill. Any thoughts about various approaches would be helpful before I just go ahead and replace a template. As far as I can tell, there are no other similar templates for other neighborhoods (just cities). It seems User:WhisperToMehas started something novel and useful here. (crossposed on that talk page) PHILA19106 (talk) 01:48, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@PHILA19106: Looks fine to me! I have started templates for neighborhoods/districts of cities if there are five or more other Wikipedia articles corresponding to landmarks in that area. WhisperToMe (talk) 02:11, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, and complements to you on your work on articles in the Houston area. Very nice work. I will certainly refer to your efforts with Template:Texas Medical Center, Template:Uptown Houston, Template:Downtown Houston, and Template:East End, Houston as a guide for other cities. Thanks, again. PHILA19106 (talk) 14:29, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Ladies College Guernsey

Hi,

You've added the category Category:Girls' schools in the United Kingdom to the article Ladies' College. Guernsey isn't in the United Kingdom though! I just wanted to mention it before I remove the category. Mrh30 (talk) 13:06, 8 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the notice! I am aware that technically Crown dependencies aren't a part of the UK, but I believe that in Wikipedia categories crown dependencies are grouped with the actual parts of the UK. Category:Schools in Jersey is under Category:Schools in British Crown Dependencies, then Category:Schools in British Overseas Territories and Crown Dependencies, which is under Category:Schools in the United Kingdom. I'm trying to follow that structure. @Mrh30: WhisperToMe (talk) 13:17, 8 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
In which case, I'd suggest that the categorisation hierarchy is also wrong in that instance! I might look into that. Mrh30 (talk) 13:33, 8 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Looking at it, that page (Category:Schools in British Overseas Territories and Crown Dependencies) has only existed since 31 January 2017 and has only a single editor. I think it was probably just mis-filed on creation. I'm going to remove the UK aspect from it as well. Mrh30 (talk) 13:36, 8 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Mrh30: Might be a good idea to let the editor know, just in case she meant to include it. @BrownHairedGirl:, did you intend for Category:Schools in British Overseas Territories and Crown Dependencies to be a daughter category of Category:Schools in the United Kingdom? Since BOT and Crown Dependencies are technically not in the UK, what do you think should be done? Should "Category:Schools in the United Kingdom" be renamed to "Category:Schools in the United Kingdom, British Overseas Territories and Crown Dependencies"? WhisperToMe (talk) 13:52, 8 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Mrh30: Also note Category:Education in British Overseas Territories and Crown Dependencies is in Category:Education in the United Kingdom, established by the same user. A recategorization may be needed. I like the idea of "Category:Education in the United Kingdom, British Overseas Territories and Crown Dependencies" as an umbrella category so the UK, BOT, and Crown Dependencies are correctly linked together. What do you think? WhisperToMe (talk) 03:38, 9 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed - the title of the category is a bit cumbersome, but it is at least accurate! Mrh30 (talk) 08:15, 9 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Awesome! I'll wait to see what BrownHairedGirl thinks about it. If she's cool with it, I'll go through with that new category tree! WhisperToMe (talk) 08:17, 9 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
