User talk:Wendybelcher

Welcome!

Hello, Wendybelcher, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I notice that one of the first articles you edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or any other editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One firm rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! Is this where I can ask a question regarding the removal of some of my edits?

Generally, any relevant external links should be listed in an "External links" section at the end of the article and meet the external links guidelines. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Hi Doug. The hubbard dissertation is very old, 1950s. There has been lots of controversy about the date, so only the more recent sources are correct.

Footnote formatting at Kebede Michael

Hello Wendybelcher, great article but please fix the footnote formatting. Do not write footnotes just as "article name", please instead use the coding shown at WP:REFB to make automated linked footnotes. That way your footnotes will appear as little blue clickable links, making the article much more organized. I have fixed a few examples for you, please contact me on my Talk page if you have any questions. MatthewVanitas (talk) 21:46, 28 November 2016 (UTC) Thanks MatthewVanitas. My student worked on this, it is her article, I think she got everything straightened out.[reply]

"Fashion in Nigeria"

I've deleted this as an advertisement. It is not considered acceptable to start a WP article with the copy and paste of what appears to be an advertisement, even as a user draft. In any case, such a draft gives the impression of having been copied from an outside source, and this is never permitted except for public domain sources. 'll be glad to help you further, but I cannot as a responsible administrator here let such content remain in Wikipedia. The usual way of dealing with this is to do the initial drafting of the article off Wikipedia. DGG ( talk ) 01:59, 30 November 2016 (UTC) . DGG ( talk ) 01:48, 30 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I see your student has now replaced this with an adequate article under a variant title, Nigerian fashion. I'm glad it has ended this well. I'll be glad to help you or your students with anything you need here. (As it happens, I retired from the Princeton Library about 10 years ago, as Biological Sciences Bibliographer. I've been working on Wikipedia as a volunteer ever since.) DGG ( talk ) 06:20, 30 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you DGG, we are still learning, especially this student. However, can you move this entry from Nigerian fashion to Fashion in Nigeria, since that is the more common way of putting this? And then redirect from Nigerian fashion? See Fashion in the Soviet Union, etc.--WLBelcher (talk) 15:54, 30 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Communication on Wikipedia

Hello Wendy, thank you for your message, which was rather misplaced.

Please take the time to familiarize yourself with Help:Talk pages. A useful guide is found at Wikipedia:Tutorial/Talk pages, part of the tutorial which was linked here on your user talk page way back in 2012, and has been here ever since.

Talk page discussion on the English Wikipedia follows existing Western -- and global -- convention regarding discussions, in that the earliest comments come first, and then successively later comments come later. Ramming a comment into the top of a discussion from more than a year earlier, forcing it on top of comments from three years ago, can be perceived as rude, and at any rate risks your comments not being seen by others.

Where an article, like Castle, has already undergone a featured article candidacy and been successful, and has already seen substantial talk page discussion regarding its focus and wording, then unilaterally changing the lede to accommodate some alternative focus and wording is not practical. If some new reliable sources that challenge the existing consensus have been found, then starting a New Section on the talk page to discuss their implications with other editors, is by far the best idea.

I'm also very confused by your suggestion that the article Castle in its current form is nationalist. MPS1992 (talk) 20:28, 9 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of College of Performing and Visual Arts, Addis Ababa University

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on College of Performing and Visual Arts, Addis Ababa University, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Hi, Professor. Wikipedia appreciates your contributions to Wikipedia. I spent several semesters collaborating with professors bringing their classes to Wikipedia.
