Glad we sorted out Ved Vejen. I finally found out how to comment on the nomination (as you will see from my support for your excellent ALT3). I kept getting this when I clicked on [edit] and then discovered there is an additional possibility under "( Review or comment • Article history )" which worked! Perhaps as you have worked in Denmark, your Danish is good enough for you to be able to read the original text of Ved Vejen. It's more like a long short story than a novel. Lots of short paragraphs, conversation and gripping sequences, some quite sensual. You can find the Danish text here or here. Unfortunately the English translation (Katinka translated by Tiina Nunnally) does not appear to be available online. --Ipigott (talk) 09:48, 3 February 2013 (UTC)

Alas, I never lived in Denmark, just visited there on business trips to the company headquarters. So I never learned Danish, as everyone in the company spoke really good English. I am negotiating a couple of Springsteen-related photos; mainly for Nils Lofgren and Clarence Clemons (Clarence has a lot of photos but most IMHO are dreadful). I wondered if you would like to add this to the 2008 tour page, taken in Ontario: [1]? The photographer that I emailed has those two pics (Clemons, and Lofgren alongside Springsteen), and responded favorably to my first email. Today I sent the second email explaining how to remove copyright from the photos, and the two Creative Commons licenses that we accept. Normally, I ignore ticket stubs, but I was feeling nostalgic for my old buddy who worked really hard on the Snow Patrol article, (requesting a ticket stub from me) but soon dropped out of sight. Additionally, I knew you'd been editing the Springsteen tours. Nils Lofgren lived up the street from me but is far older than I am. See, this is the reason I totally dislike uploading anything requiring a justification notice!! See my talk page about the album cover for Alun Davies' only solo album, and the only clear shot we have of how he looks! In addition I see musician-biography albums scattered all over some articles, as with Motorhead and the like! Davies could have pursued a career of his own, and yet, instead, chose to continue only with Cat Stevens. (I always wondered if I could submit that fact for the DYK? display but I'm too afraid to try new things like that.) As a matter of fact, the same was true of starting an article, and I believe you are aware of each of those few, including that of Davies. You, and initially, User:Tvoz were the only other two that significantly had anything to do with the article, so I'm really worried here. I'm the photo fairy, yet after supplying over 2,000 free use images, can not find one of Davies at all, thus having to rely on what is there- the photo cover of Daydo and the also non-free strip of Sweet Thursday members from the old Cat Stevens fan site, which he now controls. Here is what was sent to me:

I don't know what this is about, but I want to stop having problems with this stuffs. The procedure is the same everytime I log in on Wikipedia, so i don't know what is going on. First, click "Log out" on the top right of the screen. Then click "Log in" on the top right of the screen. For Username, make sure it says "Miss Bono", or if it is blank, type in "Miss Bono". If it says "Ali Hewson", change it to "Miss Bono". Then put in your password, then click "Log in". If you go through that sequence, you will be logging in correctly.

As for what Wikipedia is and is not, read WP:NOT. Writing for Wikipedia is not like posting at a fan forum or contributing to IMDB. It is more like writing a research paper or term paper in school (I am not sure what the equivalent phrase is in Cuba). You have to enjoy investigating a subject, finding out more about it than you already know, writing your findings up in formal language, and then adding footnotes describing the sources you used. And unlike in school, other people can then come along and change what you wrote! It's not for everyone :-) But if it's for you, then go for it. Sometimes the best way to get started is to work on an article nobody else has paid much attention to. With U2, that can be hard, since there are many established editors here who work on U2 articles. But for example, Paul McGuinness is so important to U2's career that he has sometimes been called their "fifth member". But the article on him says almost nothing about how he has managed U2 and what key decisions he made for their career and so forth. Some of the song articles could use expansion, such as Gloria (U2 song). Or whatever appeals to you ... Wasted Time R (talk) 01:08, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

I see you also have both usernames going in the Spanish Wikipedia. None of your edits as Ali Hewson will go away in either encyclopedia, you will always be able to see them in the History, but from now on you should just log in as Miss Bono and that only. Thanks for the kind words. As I alluded to on the talk page, I feel bad in that I kind of ran over what the two of you were doing, but I have tried to preserve Miss Bono's wording and approach where I could. But once I get going, I keep going ... We now have the somewhat odd situation that this article (2072 words) is longer than The Edge article (1885 words), just like Ali Hewson (which I'm also responsible for, at 3617 words) is almost longer than Bono (3736 words). But that's Wikipedia for you (and to be fair, material on Edge and Bono permeates all of the U2 articles, and is thus not restricted to the biographies). Welcome to Wikipedia, alas. Some editors take a weird sort of pride in this happening to them - there's even a User:UBX/vandalized userbox to count how many times one's page has been vandalized. In any case, you have to keep a sense of perspective - Wikipedia is like many other parts of the Internet, and people will sometimes behave worse towards each other than they would in person-to-person interaction. Thanks, but I generally don't join WP projects ... I like the freedom to work on whatever I like, whenever I like, without ever feeling obligated. As for me, I'm 58. A bit older than you! I've been a fan of U2 since 1983, and I've seen them in concert 17 times, starting with the Unforgettable Fire Tour back in 1985. Thanks for letting me know in your edit summary that leaving out the city is OK if the city name is in the name of the newspaper. That makes sense in general. I wonder about Lewiston, Maine, though, since that isn't unambiguous. I may be thinking so because I have family roots within 50 miles of Lewiston, Idaho, going back over 130 years. Perhaps Portland might be an exception, too. And citing a newspaper in Miami, Ohio might be another. Your thoughts? Cullen³²⁸ Let's discuss it 01:21, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

Yeah, I guess the location could be restored for the Lewiston paper. I've used it before as a source so I know it's the Maine one, but most people wouldn't. By the way, the major thing that will need to be done for DYK is to re-license the two photos of the fountain. It comes as a surprise to many (including me at first), but per WP:FOP, there is no freedom of panorama in the U.S. for sculptures or other outdoor works of art, only buildings. Thus, the use of one of the images in the Armand Vaillancourt article is not permissible, regardless of the license used at Commons. For this article, however, since it's on the work itself, the images can be used under a fair use license. The top photos in Cloud Gate (FA) and Michael Jordan statue (GA) are examples of how this has been done. Wasted Time R (talk) 02:06, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

This message is directed to users who have reviewed over 15 Good article nominations and are not part of WikiProject Good articles (the first message I sent out went to only WikiProject members). So for those who haven't heard about the Recruitment Centre yet, you may be wondering why there is a Good article icon with a bunch of stars around it (to the right). The answer? WikiProject Good articles will be launching a Recruitment Centre very soon! The centre will allow all users to be taught how to review Good article nominations by experts just like you! However, in order for the Recruitment Centre to open in the first place, we need some volunteers: Recruiters: The main task of a recruiter is to teach users that have never reviewed a Good article nomination how to review one. To become a recruiter, all you have to do is meet this criteria. If we don't get at least 5-10 recruiters to start off with (at the time this message was sent out, 2 recruiters have volunteered), the Recruitment Centre will not open. If interested, make sure you meet the criteria, read the process and add your name to the list of recruiters. (One of the great things about being a recruiter is that there is no set requirement of what must be taught and when. Instead, all the content found in the process section is a guideline of the main points that should be addressed during a recruitment session...you can also take an entire different approach if you wish!) If you think you will not have the time to recruit any users at this time but are still interested in becoming a recruiter, you can still add your name to the list of recruiters but just fill in the "Status" parameter with "Not Available". Tasks include making sure recruiters are doing what they should be (teaching!), making sure all recruitments are archived correctly, updating pages as needed, answering any questions, and distributing the feedback form. Hey, I was looking at the Pazz & Jop Poll which led me to Robert Christgau and his reviews, and I was wondering since you knew about the former, whether you knew anything about Christgau's rating system (ignore this if you don't)? He gives The Miseducation a ** (two-star honourable mention) and MTV Live Unplugged 2.0 a D- (see here). But what does the former translate into? Is a two-star honourable mention equivalent to an A? Just to clarify why the "Falling silent" section covers more than the other two sections combined is, sadly, there is more about the station falling silent than the station signing on. For some stations KDKA (AM) and WWJ (AM), you can find out a year-by-year history of a station, but stations like WBSC you get what is available. I can update the format of the station, with the sources I have available. I can take out the Arbitron link at the bottom, that's no problem. It's part of the standard set of three links at the bottom of each page, but you are right, when the station goes off the air, the Arbitron link isn't needed. - Neutralhomer • Talk • 02:15, 10 August 2013 (UTC)

I didn't put it on hold because it shouldn't have been put up in the first place and because you shouldn't be rushed to do the missing work in seven days. To do a good job on this station's full history is going to take some effort. You're going to have to go back in time and find old South Carolina newspapers, which takes time and a little money to pay for archived news stories. You might call a local library in the area and see what they have in terms of locally-produced books or clip files. We found very little in old newspaper coverage for the station, but that's kinda typical. You had a short time to defend the article at AfD, but that doesn't mean you have to put it up for GA the same day that it was ruled a keep! There's a huge gap between "deserves to exist" and "deserves to be GA". Most of the articles I've put up for GA, I have worked on for a year or more beforehand. This is not a race! If there isn't enough source material online to ever get this article to be comprehensive, then it won't be GA anytime soon. That's okay - there's no rule that says every subject can reach GA - sometimes just not enough is known. But, next time you're in South Carolina, stop by some libraries and talk to the reference librarians and look at their old microfilm and maybe you'll find some good material and build up the article that way. I never said it was a race, I just thought I did a good job. I doubt I will ever be in SC anytime soon. I don't have a driver's license (I have Asperger's) and the docs here in Virginia don't like to give driver's licenses to people who have a "mental illness". So, SC is probably never gonna happen.

I was, however, able to dig through some of my sources and find more about the station's formats. I don't think I will be able to find anything about the ratings as they are only allowed to go back 2 years, per Arbitron. If you want the ratings books for a time period, they are about $300.00....each. A bit out of my price range. I'm going to give a look-see to the TV stations in the area and see if they reported on the closure of the station. That article needs more than a bit of cleaning. It reminds me of the Rudy Giuliani article c. 2006–07 ... clearly written by people who loathe the subject. At one point about five paragraphs in a row begin with some form of "Christie was criticized for ..." Nowhere does it explain how Christie won election in a blue state, or why he has stayed popular there. No coverage of his actions in New Jersey in response to Sandy, just the federal politics of it. Even the mention of Bruce is quite inadequate. Worst of all, the article completely fails to capture the Christie political persona, which, for better or worse, is quite distinctive. The point with Bruce is that Christie is a real fanatic, having been to 120–130 shows, but Bruce gave him the complete cold shoulder due to their being on opposite sides of the political fence. I think these are sensible guidelines:

Per WP:Leadlink: "In technical articles that use uncommon terms, a higher-than-usual link density in the lead section may be necessary. In such cases, try to provide an informal explanation in the lead, avoiding using too many technical terms until later in the article...."

Per WP:MOSINTRO: "Where uncommon terms are essential, they should be placed in context, linked and briefly defined."

So, thanks for including an explanation of smart power in the lead, though you really went overboard:

She viewed "smart power" as the strategy for asserting U.S. leadership and values, by combining military strength with American capabilities in economics, aid, technology, creativity, and human rights advocacy.

I don't think there is a lot of organized slanted editing by political entities, if that's what you mean. I think most political articles are legitimately written by regular folks, but the domain expertise and writing abilities and editorial fairness of those regular folks vary quite widely. Looking at the top editors of the Condi article, I'm not familiar with any of them, so I don't know how it got this way. The article used to be heavily edited - just looking at 2009 there was lots of daily activity - but currently a month can go by with nothing. Nowadays, with many fewer editors than in the past, the major determinant of what any article looks like is whether one of the star collector types (who go for DYK, GA, FA, TFA) gets interested in a subject and redoes it from the bottom up. I agree that the political entities seem to have sufficient good sense to stay away. And that regular folks do most editing. And that articles are often crappy until a star collector gets going. My main concern is that the crowd of regular folks is often winnowed down by administrator action, the process of selecting administrators involves a very small portion of all the editors, and a lot of subtle discrimination happens at the hands of the admins. My own experience has been the opposite – I believe admins generally do a good job and I've never had any significant run-ins with them. As long as McCain has publicly acknowledged his religious affiliation he should be in that category. We have agreed that where someone received their education, even their high school education, is defining to them. On the awards categories, I would say all the non-US ones should be scrpaped as not defining to him at all. Categories like Jeopardy contesteants are really supposed to be for people notable for that. Yeah, it really is weird. I was a professional writer and writing teacher before the combination of my illness and my daughter's birth forced me to retire (the daughter part makes it a pretty good trade-off); I even wrote some articles for print encyclopedias. Just a comment from a passer-by. Just trying to be helpful.

In reference to [3]. I agree with Cwobell in that the information about "lost to Barack Obama" should be kept, it keeps the historical context. It's also strange to mention the nomination, but not what happened with the nomination.

However, the "but" could sound to some people as "ha, ha, he lost". It could be rewritten so that:

• the information "lost to Barack Obama" is preserved
• it doesn't sound offensive to some people

I was leaving a comment below this, but thought I'd give input as well (forgive me in advance for my insertion). What about "He eventually conceded to BO" or "However, BO won the election/nomination" instead, etc.? I agree that "but lost" is negative and may not be neutral, although that type of verbiage is used throughout Wikipedia. I looked at other nominees in the past (ie. Mondale) and words like "was defeated by so-and-so" or "so-and-so was chosen by voters instead" type of wording. However, others also use the words "lost" or "but lost" such as George WH Bush and John McCain articles. I'm sure other articles do as well, but those are two I looked at recently. Maybe across the board it needs to be left that way or changed/improved on all related articles... (?) Best wishes! :) P.s. I was thinking there was a pattern of Republican defeats using "but lost", however, Jimmy Carter's article also uses "but lost". But then again, it was to Reagan.
