ArbCom 2020 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2020 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 7 December 2020. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2020 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 02:43, 24 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Organized labour project

Thank you for joining the Organized Labour project. I've been a participant in the project since 2006 and am helping with a revival of it. As part this we are introducing a new membership system, which will help with communications among participants. This involves creating a membership file for each participant within your user space (you can see an example of my membership card here: User:Goldsztajn/WikiProjectCards/WikiProject Organized Labour). This system is already in operation within a number of wikiprojects (such as Women in Red and Medicine). You will not have to do anything, myself or someone else from the project will create the relevant file within your userspace. However, I am conscious that it is not polite to change an editor's user space without notice. If I don't hear from you in the negative, I will go ahead with making the change after the 18th of January. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Many thanks for supporting the project, in solidarity, --Goldsztajn (talk) 10:42, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding this revert. I intended to WP:BANREVERT massive changes to the article made by a sock with CIR and POV issues, though I should've stated so in my edit summary. The infobox parameter for "now part of" also looked cluttered and wrong Kiu99 (talk) 03:46, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah that clears it up. Vif12vf/Tiberius (talk) 03:47, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

That IPv6 you've been reverting

Hi, Vif12vf. I see you have been reverting edits from 2600:6C50:7EF0:4A70:AC5E:678F:2922:B2D1 in several places, calling them a sock. It's actually even worse than that: all their text is lifted straight from copyrighted sources. Compare my warnings on their talkpage. May I ask why you say they're a sock, though? Do you believe they're evading a block on an account? Bishonen | tålk 08:01, 15 November 2023 (UTC).[reply]

  • I have encountered this person before, and last time I believe some of their IPs got blocked, although their IP-hopping is so extreme that it is quite frankly difficult to keep up with all of the IPs. The reason I consider it sockpuppetry though is because the IP-hopping is clearly a tactic to avoid capture, so to speak. Vif12vf/Tiberius (talk) 14:14, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That's the contributions from 2600:6C50:7EF0:4A70:AC5E:678F:2922:B2D1's /64 range, in other words, it's more contributions from the same individual (a /64 range is just one person). I checked those before I wrote to Tiberius, Uncle G, admittedly a little superficially, but afaics, there weren't any copyvios there apart from the one IP I warned. I'm not sure about the socking - your explanation is a little vague, Tiberius - but the pasting of copyrighted material is very clear. Of course with an IPv6 you can never tell if they have seen or will see any warnings before they've moved on to another IP in the range - sigh - but I'll try to keep an eye on it. If there are more copyvios, I'll just block the range. Bishonen | tålk 16:53, 15 November 2023 (UTC).[reply]
Ah that clears it up, thanks. Vif12vf/Tiberius (talk) 16:55, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Isle of Man

Please do not inject your unsourced opinion into articles, with made-up terminology like "official country" which is meaningless to everyone but you [1]. The lead there already perfectly adequately explains what the IoM is: "is a self-governing British Crown Dependency".  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  05:55, 1 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

The dominican parties PLD & the PRM don't are center, i know the politics from my country Dominican Republic, in the case of the PRM that confirmed from his website[1], the PLD is centerleft, never are centrists[2]Oli (talk) 01:43, 24 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

What you know yourself cannot be used on wikipedia, editors are not allowed to use themselves as sources. If our sources contradict your personal knowledge, then the actual sources always take precedence! Vif12vf/Tiberius (talk) 03:03, 24 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Did I show you two links that prove what I said about the PRM and the PLD? Did you even read them first? Or did you only notice the first line of my first message and ignore the rest? Oli (talk) 05:44, 25 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
>If you continue to use yourself and primary sources over over reliable third-party sources to support claims you make that make no sense, it will be considered disruptive editing!

I will take this message of yours as a threat, I am going to talk to a librarian about this, because it is evident that you are not going to want to debate about this, because you will file a complaint against me for permanent blocking for "disruptive editing", thank you. Oli (talk) 05:52, 25 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That is in no way a threat, that is how wikipedia works! You may never use yourself as a source, and primary sources for political parties can only be used for certain things, but are generally frowned upon. If you continuously use these when being told off for doing so, that is disruptive editing by definition, and something you may get banned for on wikipedia! This is no threat, this is just how editing here actually works! Vif12vf/Tiberius (talk) 06:45, 25 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, you never wanted to debate, and I thank you for the new nickname you gave me "Edition Disruptor", I hope many more nice threats like that soon. Oli (talk) 06:49, 25 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That is not a threat, thinking so is beyond hysterical. Also if your edits are in violation of any editing policy or guideline, then yes, that is disruptive, possibly even vandalism when bad enough. And if you continue to make edits violating policy or guidelines, then sooner or later someone is actually going to have you reported or banned from editing. Wikipedia is not a free-for-all! Also when your sources don't meet criteria, there isn't really a discussion or debate to be had in the first place! Vif12vf/Tiberius (talk) 06:59, 25 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the new nickname "Hysterical Edition Disruptor". Very thanks. Oli (talk) 07:10, 25 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Creta et Cyrenaica reversion

I'd like to ask why my map of the Province of Creta et Cyrenaica was ultimately reversed with no apparent reason Shuaaa2 (talk) 17:09, 4 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

yeah but that is not a good argument is it, the Article isnt about the broader Roman provinces it is about specifically the province of Creta and Cyrenaica, i dont think that is an objective reason to remove the map from the article Shuaaa2 (talk) 17:47, 4 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Progressive Rock Artists

Hi, curious what is the problem with the sources for the bands I added? All the sources are articles about the bands that classify them as prog. And anyone who is a prog fan would also agree these are prog bands. Thanks.

Firstly, you need to sign your talk-page messages for the sake of clarity. Secondly, the sources aren't the problem. Bands should not be added to band-lists unless they have their own wikipedia-articles, otherwise these lists will quickly become highly inflated with entries! Vif12vf/Tiberius (talk) 14:56, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Well it did make some sense

The PP is not even that "progressive" they are moderate progressive, even according to cited source.

Also, I agree with the other edits, but my sources did prove that they support centralization and are pragmatic. IGotAPHD (talk) 22:25, 1 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Unsourced Lazarevic flag | reverting my edits

Good evening, I saw you have reverted the contents I added & even restored from the past that have been changed some days ago. First of all, Lazarevic coat of arms is much more suitable as Moravian Serbia then Hrebeljanović dynasty. Second, the flag I have added is actually the existing flag that is also depicted as an actual flag in Serbian old towers built at that time, if you want to see the pictures, I can source them to you to prove that the flag actually existed and prevent edit wars.. The sources are from Golubovac fortress that is medieval age & a bit restored as a museum now & it depicts that flag, thank you! Currings (talk) 13:02, 2 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sources need to be listed on the file-page of the pictures you want to use, that is all! Vif12vf/Tiberius (talk) 14:35, 2 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Wait, are you sure it is center-right to right-wing? since, it is mostly conservative, social and fiscal conservative, on all types. It would make sense if there is a liberal-conservativism or conservative liberal, but there is none. 75.113.159.27 (talk) 23:25, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Longstanding details should not be unilaterally changed without a really good rationale or good sources to back it up. Vif12vf/Tiberius (talk) 01:17, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Depends on wether newer sources confirming or contradicting it can be found. Sources used here do not necessarily lose relevance unless newer/better sources can be found to replace them. Vif12vf/Tiberius (talk) 01:35, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Stop editing unconstructively

Don't bother threatening me, I already know you aren't an administrator. Tell me why the edits are unconstructive, and in fact, I was adding information to infobox quite constructively. You did not give any revert reason, so I'll have to ask you to ensure you are familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, and please do not continue to make edits that appear disruptive. Continued disruptive editing may result in loss of editing privileges.

Thanks!

Chastizement (talk) 15:57, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I am not threatening you, and one does not need to be an admin to warn someone about their edits being unhelpful. The info you sought to add does not belong in the infobox of a current state! Vif12vf/Tiberius (talk) 16:01, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Bullying behaviour by Vif12vf

I've been on Wikipedia since 2010 (fourteen years, as of this writing), with over one hundred edits here of which I never had any issue with anybody.

Today I made a single edit, which was reverted by this user without ANY explanation. I revert it back and he now posted on my talk page with threats and accusations.

I suggest everyone to keep track of what this user does because this is abusive behaviour - pretty much digital bullying. Raven-14 (talk) 08:10, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You have no conception of what bullying is! Vif12vf/Tiberius (talk) 13:58, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You didn't give sources for the changes to that article, and that is presumably the reason they reverted your change. You've also made a few unsourced or poorly sourced edits to other Portuguese political articles, and reverted edits to your edits, arguing the other editor is uniformed. Being harsh isn't the same thing as bullying or being abusive, and, although I'm in no way an administrator, I'd recommend sourcing potentially controversial changes in the future. Atriskofmistake (talk) 22:29, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Kurdistan Toilers' Party party color

Hi Vif12vf, I noticed you reverted my edit regarding the party color of the Kurdistan Toilers' Party. If you checked the article, you can see that the color tone is, in fact, not used by the party. Sadly, I have no idea how to find the party color templates so that I could edit it over there and googling it doesn't give me an answer either. If you can tell me I'll just edit the obviously wrong color over there. Thx.--Ermanarich (talk) 01:07, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You can find the template at Module:Political party/K, you can find the other tamplate lists at Module:Political party. I'd agree these aren't the easiest to find if you dont already know where to look, so i suggest bookmarking them if you think you'll have a hard time remembering them. Hi Vif12vf. The above discussion was closed with no action against you, in large part because the reporting editor had been disruptive. That said, I would encourage you to change your Twinkle practice. Please use edit summaries whenever reverting good-faith contributions using Twinkle, even if you strongly disagree with the changes or find that they have serious problems. If it's vandalism, by all means use the tool and revert without explanation. At least for the Twinkle settings I have active, edit summaries are possible when I use the [rollback (AGF)] button or the [restore this version] button. Last time I checked, that wasn't something people got blocked for, otherwise the majority of edits I observe would get the editors blocked! Not every edit needs a summary, and most of the people I revert dont even read the edit-summaries to begin with, hence why a lot of edit-conflicts on this page happen in the first place! In a lot of cases, looking at the actual edit alone will be more than enough to understand what is going on, though something tells me you are simply looking for summaries in my editing history, while intentionally neglecting the edits themselves! No, I would not block you for not using edit summaries for every edit. It's the fact that you're using a semi-automated editing tool to revert or rollback the good-faith efforts of other editors and providing no explanation. See, for example, the consensus policy, "All edits should be explained (unless the reason for them is obvious) ... Explanations are especially important when reverting another editor's good-faith work." Or the aforementioned WP:TWINKLEABUSE.
If you revert an edit that is not vandalism, please explain why. Thank you for responding here, as your lack of communication was part of the problem. I would much rather not block you and just see that you've committed to more explanation moving forward. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 15:55, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Consistently inserting false edits

Serve The People Norway does not claim to uphold Gonzalo Thought in any form yet this user consistently keeps assigning such ideological classification to this group. Battle1509 (talk) 21:17, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Primary sources are not acceptable when determining the ideology and position of a party or group. You also keep consistently adding the content in the wrong manner! Vif12vf/Tiberius (talk) 22:10, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The entire article is primary sources, there is nothing else to determine the ideology. Battle1509 (talk) 18:39, 5 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds like the group isn't notable enough to deserve an article then! Vif12vf/Tiberius (talk) 18:40, 5 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Why do you speak with such a mentality of superiority? This is not professional and only comes off as passive aggressive and heavily rude. Battle1509 (talk) 19:44, 5 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I do not, but tone cannot simply be read, you have no way of simply knowing what tone someone intends for a sentence to be read with! Vif12vf/Tiberius (talk) 20:18, 5 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

CNF Ideology

Their ideology is Vanvan n6 (talk) 04:43, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Ideologies of parties, organisations etc should be sourced using reliable third-party sources. People who want to edit wikipedia are not allowed to ever use themselves as a source! Vif12vf/Tiberius (talk) 12:27, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I liked how the author will check the authenticity of the article, I suggest considering the article Principality of Abkhazia

I suggest you check out this article and help us sort out the disagreement. the fact is that official documents and population censuses are in Arabic, but one participant constantly changes them, as if the wires are unreliable among most historians with the opinion that false information may appear, please consider and help us figure it out, as an example I would like to give the document the state and deal with the dispute of the "state language" File:The Ottoman Archive about Abasia.jpg Alsho093 (talk) 08:33, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
