Africa!

We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying, categorizing, and improving articles relevant to Africa. Here are some points that may be helpful:

Our main aim is to help improve Africa-related articles, so if people ask for help with an article, please try your hardest to help them if you are able.
Most important discussions take place on the project's main discussion page; it is highly recommended that you watchlist it.
The project has several ongoing and developing activities, such as article quality assessment, which you are welcome to participate.
If you have another language besides English, please consider adding yourself to our translation section, to help us improve our foreign Africa topics.
You may also be interested in joining one of the descendant projects related to a specific African country.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the talk page, and we will be happy to help you.

Adoption request & Mentorship

Hi, I'd be happy to adopt you and help out in any way I can. I don't know too much about education in Swaziland but I will definitely help if I can, especially with generic article development stuff. That article's got a lot of room for improvement! It could use some more sources, as it's never good to rely on just one. Education in South Africa and Education in Chad might be worth looking at, for comparison, although they are by no means perfect. Education in the United States, although not in Africa, is a good article so would be a good one to get inspiration from.

If you're particularly interested in Swaziland, take a look at Wikipedia:WikiProject Swaziland. There are only 2 members so far, so any queries would probably be best directed to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Africa. Let me know any problems or questions you have. Thank you Belovedfreak! OK, so just to clarify my request - it is I who have good knowledge about education in Swaziland, so no subject matter expectations on you ;). Your suggestion for me to look at the education sites mentioned above gives me an excellent start. Thanks for your kind words. It would probably be a good idea to keep our conversations together from now on. If you like you can create a separate talkpage User talk:Venzen/mentoring, or something similar to keep our mentor-type discussions separate from any other messages you might get. You don't have to, it's up to you. I'm glad to hear you've got good knowledge on the topic - that's always a good start. By the way, if you want to work on it before editing the article, you can create more userpages by extending User:Venzen (eg. User:Venzen/draft or User:Venzen/sandbox). Contests

User:Dr. Blofeld has created Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/Contests. The idea is to run a series of contests/editathons focusing on each region of Africa. He has spoken to Wikimedia about it and $1000-1500 is possible for prize money. As someone who has previously expressed interest in African topics, would you be interested in contributing to one or assisting draw up core article/missing article lists? He says he's thinking of North Africa for an inaugural one in October. Invite to the African Destubathon

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most geography, wildlife and women articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing, whether it's a river in Malawi, a Nigerian footballer, or a South African civil rights activist, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. For those of you who signed up to the North African contest, that will hopefully be held in the new year. AfroCine: Join the Months of African Cinema this October!

After a successful first iteration of the “Months of African Cinema” last year, we are happy to announce that it will be happening again this year, starting from October 1! In the 2018 edition of the contest, about 600 Wikipedia articles were created in at least 8 languages. There were also contributions to Wikidata and Wikimedia commons, which brought the total number of wikimedia pages created during the contest to over 1,000.
