Notability of York Tire

A tag has been placed on York Tire requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. kelapstick (talk) 00:57, 11 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My article for York Tire was deleted yesterday for York Tire. This information is from the owner of the company and I just finished their website. Isn't it a good plan of action to include a wiki about a company to inform others?

Hi, while your intentions are in the right place, York Tire does not meet the notability guidelines for companies. In short "An organization is generally considered notable if it has been the subject of significant coverage in reliable, independent secondary sources." As with all subjects in Wikipedia, in order for a company to have an article it must have been the subject of significant coverage in reliable secondary sources, which are independent of the subject. In this case, information from the owner is not considered a secondary source, and is not independent of the subject. If York Tire has received coverage in a reliable source (the company website will not fall into this category, as it is not independent), that can be used to establish notability. I suggest that you look over a couple of the links I have put in this message, if you have any questions please feel free to ask. A suggestion that I try to give to new editors to Wikipedia is don't start out by creating a new article, try doing small edits first (typos etc.), than adding material (that can be sourced, so you can get the hang of adding references) to existing articles, than try creating a new article. I have added a "welcome message" to the top of this page, there is some good information there for references, and if you have any questions please ask! --kelapstick (talk) 16:45, 11 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
