I don't really have a strong position on the issue, however I am wondering if you could give me an example of a sports regulation which isn't really just a rule. After all there is the sports law category. I would consider any activity within some league to be merely a "rule", not a "regulation" in the way congress subpoenas players, etc. You seem to be reverting it awful quick, so you obviously have a strong view on it. I certainly do not get permission for every little thing I do around here. The move appeared very non controversial. There are clearly reasonable cases where I might go through a proposal, and a cfd process, etc., and there are many cases where I would not bother. The presence of sports law sinched it for me. It is consistent with "game rules," etc.

I certainly do not feel so strongly about it to go through cfd. If people want it to stay where it is that's fine. Wikipedia works by consensus, and I do my part be being agreeable. In fact, if you would have convinced me of it I would have moved it back myself. However, you still have given me no particular reason for "rules and regulations" (although I suppose it couldn't be that you merely like the name on a whim --because you would never do that).

So I guess my question is, did you consider my proposal that it could be time to split out those regulations to their own category? That might actually be more helpful for people's navigation. Be well, Pontiff Greg Bard (talk) 02:37, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

You should review our policies whilst you calm down and remember that one of them is to maintain civility and not make personal attacks. Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors July 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive. Thanks to all who participated in the drive! Over 100 editors—including Jimbo Wales—signed up this time (nearly triple the participants of the May drive). This benefited the Guild as well as the articles in need of copy editing. You can see from the comparison graphs that we increased the number of completed copyedits substantially. Unfortunately, we were not able to meet our goal of completely wiping out 2008 from the queue. We also were not able to reduce the backlog to less than 6,000 articles. We suspect people were busy with real life summertime things, at least in the northern hemisphere! We were able to remove the months of January, February, March, April, and May from the backlog, and we almost wiped out the month of June. We reduced the backlog by 1,289 articles (17%), so all in all it was a very successful drive, and we will be holding another event soon. We'll come up with some new ideas to try to keep things fresh and interesting. Keep up the good work, everybody! Stats If you copy edited at least 4,000 words, you qualify for a barnstar. If you edited in the May 2010 GOCE Backlog Elimination Drive, your word totals are cumulative for barnstars (not the leaderboard). Over the course of the next week or two, we will be handing out the barnstars. To whom it may concern: My edits were an attempt to let someone know that the page is a biased hit-piece. Reading this page, you'd think it was written by an ex-girlfriend of Barton's who has vowed to exact some kind of revenge against him. It is ok and necessary to show negative comments about a person or his qualifications, etc., but this page is so far slated against him that my screen almost slid off of my desk. The page quotes people who obviously have great animosity towards Barton and his beliefs as if they are objective obervers. For example, quoting the opinion of an anti-religious freedom group like Americans United for the Seperation of Church and State should be accompanied with an explanation that their opinion of Barton is extremely biased. Believe me, people reading this page deserve to hear more from Barton than from Spector. Hi! I just noticed your interpretation of the US constitution as not being a living document, but embodying eternal truths. That's arguable. But what I am surprised about is that you quote Jefferson in support. Jefferson very much held the opposite position - he considered it somewhat flawed ("yet every human essay must have defects"), in no way binding for future generations ("The present generation has the same right of self-government which the past one has exercised for itself.", "Can one generation bind another and all others in succession forever? I think not."), and called for frequent rewriting to adapt to new situations ("Time and changes in the condition and constitution of society may require occasional and corresponding modifications", "We might as well require a man to wear still the coat which fitted him when a boy as civilized society to remain ever under the regimen of their barbarous ancestors"). If it be enforced longer, it is an act of force, and not of right. It may be said, that the succeeding generation exercising, in fact, the power of repeal, this leaves them as free as if the constitution or law had been expressly limited to nineteen years only. In the first place, this objection admits the right, in proposing an equivalent. You can't just look at the single document out of context and say it was cheating. They had used every legal means available, and the King was stationing troops in Boston, something he did not do at home. The English people were also represented in Parliament, something the colonists were not. So there is more to the story that you are ignoring, and must take into consideration. My reversal has nothing to do with me being an administrator (when it come to content administrators have no more of a preferential position than any other editor). What we do have some discretion over is the behaviour of editors who have been naughty. For example I reverted a cut and past move recently, and in doing so I discovered that the editor concerned had been engaging in such practice with dozens of pages, there for I took it further.

In this case you made a bold edit and I have reverted it. My source for doing this is listed in the article. I am happy to discuss it further on the talk page of the article. I would be interested in why you think that no request was made, are you sure that you do not mean that no written request was made for Dresden? There is disagreement among historians over whether Dresden was discussed, but I have not read an account that says that the Soviets did not discuss bombing lines and the help the Western Allies could give the Soviets interdicting troop movements to the Eastern Front. -- PBS (talk) 22:42, 23 August 2010 (UTC)

It is not a reliable source because Conroy writing in 1989 leans heavily on David Irving's now discredited book (See Richard J. Evans. David Irving, Hitler and Holocaust Denial: Electronic Edition, 6. General Conclusion Paragraphs 6.8, 6.20, 6.21). Specifically On page 32 there is a comment "No documents have been found to link the Soviets to a formal request for bombing of the Eastern Front.12" (Footnote 12 is to Irving p. 228). -- PBS (talk) 23:16, 23 August 2010 (UTC)

The point is that Irving's research can not be trusted. Many people before Irving v Penguin Books and Lipstadt did not realise that he is not a trustworthy person, so it is not unusual to find him cited in older articles. But we now know that we can not trust his word, so if someone like Conroy makes a statement based on "research" done by Irving, it can not be trusted to be accurate. In this case on page 32 Conway wrote "No documents have been found to link the Soviets to a formal request for bombing of the Eastern Front", but he cited Irving for this (but we know Irving is untrustworthy) and more recent research done by a number of historians has turned up documentary evidence of the request. However that documentary evidence does not include Dresden. Taylor relies on (and explains) that one of the British interpreters says he heard the Soviets agree to include Dresden, but some other historians have pointed out that the translator made this claim after the cold war had stated, and he may have said it for propaganda reasons. "You pays your money and makes a choice" on the issue of Dresden, but there is no dispute that the bombing of choke points along with a bomb line was discussed. (A bomb line was the point east beyond which the Western Allis would not bomb for fear of hitting Soviet formations. I assessed the article as C per your request for assessment. There are still quite a few problems with it that I can see just by skimming through it. Here are some suggestions for further improvement:

• Try to add a few more images.
• Could stand to use a few more links
• Take the inline citations out of the lede and add them where they belong in the article.
• There are way way too many references. Try pruning out some of the less useful or unused ones.
• You might want to consider breaking out the list of Notables into its own list article.
• It needs some prose work. Some of the wording is a little too complex (too many big words).
• Several sections still lack inline citations.

I hesitate to go further here, but I'll bite this once. I don't like to elevate arguments to a higher authority, but if it can't be sorted out at the lowest level I will. I don't go for arguing on noticeboards over things that shouldn't require lots of arguing. The article is about Weston Price, not about how to debunk his work. Weston Price was not a quack. Difference of opinion with his contemporaries on an issue does not make him a quack. We should be adding sourced information about his work to the article. Using a live person to criticize a dead person is unethical, IMHO. We can't criticize Barrett because of the rules and policies you drum us with. Price isn't here to defend himself, and Barrett is protected by WP policy. The fact that Barrett makes his living on quackbusting and isn't even a dental researcher makes it worse. In my view criticism should be allowed, but IN A CAUTIOUS WAY (rational and wells sourced). We can't prove that Price's intent was to deceive the public, in fact all evidence points the other way. We need to work this article as a group, and give each editor's opinion the weight it should deserve, and not make this effort about policy. I've already added more content on his research in traditional dentistry. Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive! Discussions are underway to elect our inaugural group of GOCE Coordinators. Well, the proper authority is us, the Wikipedians. We just have to get through the layers of long-timers who have been doing the same thing for years and years, but I believe that a properly worked-out policy could actually get adopted (that is, get consensus for change). Suppose you and I work out some kind of new procedure for sourcing Lists and Years, propose it and see what happens? It might take quite a while, but I think there are lots of folks who think as you and I do. I can start by drafting some ideas that I have. With the first of what I hope will be monthly newsletters I again want to welcome you to the project and hope that as we all work together through the year we can expand the project, create missing articles and generally improve the pedia thought mutual cooperation and support. Now that we have a project and a solid pool of willing members I wanted to strike while the iron is hot and solicite help in doing a few things that I believe is a good next step in solidifiing the project. Guild of Copy Editors January 2011 backlog elimination drive Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors January 2011 Backlog elimination drive! The drive is halfway over, so here are some mid-drive stats. Participation So far, 43 people have signed up for this drive. Of these, 25 have participated. If you signed up for the drive but haven't participated yet, it's not too late! Try to copy edit at least a few articles. Remember, if you have rollover words from the last drive, you will lose them if you do not participate in this drive. If you haven't signed up for the drive yet, you can sign up now. Progress report We have eliminated two months from the backlog – January and February 2009. One of our goals is to eliminate as many months as possible from the 2009 backlog. Please help us reduce the size of this part of the backlog if you haven't already. Another goal is to reduce the entire backlog by 10%, or by 515 articles. Currently, we have eliminated 375 articles from the queue, so if each participant copy edits four more articles, we will reach that goal. Thank you for participating in the January 2011 drive. Guild of Copy Editors January 2011 Backlog elimination drive Greetings from the January 2011 Backlog elimination drive! We have reached the end of the month and the end of another successful drive; thanks to all who participated. Statistics 54 people signed up for the year's first Backlog elimination drive. Of these, 40 participated. One of our goals was to reduce the size of the backlog by at least 10%. We managed to reduce the backlog by 633 articles, or about 12%. Another goal was to eliminate as many 2009 months as possible from the queue. We eliminated January, February, March, and April—4 out of 12 months is not bad! In addition, we eliminated 37% of all remaining 2009 articles from the queue. Chaosdruid copy edited Kutch Gurjar Kashtriya for 32,711 words, which is the largest single article completed in one of our drives so far. This article counts as six 5000-K articles, and Chaosdruid wins the "most 5000-K articles" leaderboard category. Way to go! A complete list of individual results is here. Barnstars If you copy edited at least 4,000 words, you qualify for a barnstar. If you participated in the November 2010 Backlog elimination drive, you may have earned roll-over words (more details can be found here). Hello. I'm commenting here because the conversation has moved away, in my opinion, from focusing on the article's content. No, there isn't a reason why I don't want attention. I think noticeboards are the places to get attention (such as WP:NPOVN). If you look back in the archive, you'll see comments from users Sean Hoyland, Critical, and Will Beback. They are experienced editors and they arrived to the talk page at times when there was a posting to a noticeboard. I don't think tags are effective recruitment tools. Do you want me to start a post at WP:NPOVN? At this point, though, it doesn't appear you have a POV problem with the article. Here are the number of people that have death panel on their watchlist.[15] (But yes, I started the article and I think I am the chief content contributor, though quite a few have contributed and discussed things.) Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors The latest GOCE backlog elimination drive is under way! It began on 1 July and so far 18 people have signed up to help us reduce the number of articles in need of copyediting. This drive will give a 50% bonus for articles edited from the GOCE requests page. Although we have cleared the backlog of 2009 articles there are still 3,935 articles needing copyediting and any help, no matter how small, would be appreciated. We are appealing to all GOCE members, and any other editors who wish to participate, to come and help us reduce the number of articles needing copyediting, as well as the backlog of requests. If you have not signed up yet, why not take a look at the current signatories and help us by adding your name and copyediting a few articles. I noticed a lot of changes, not sure why you deleted the reference to the Duke. If you have done some search you would have found out what that means here. My usual approach isn't just to delete something immediately because I don't know what it is. Your artical on slavery completely misses the fact the there were more white slaves in the sugar colonies and the virginia colony that black. The term indentured servants was modified in fact to mean the after 1660 whites could nver escape their slavery. Google "Irish slavery" or "white slaves in america" and see the results. In Barbados over 80 percent of the sugar slaves were white. The same is true of Montseratt. Get behind the whitwash of "indentured servants" and you will find that Irish slaves were worth 5 lbs. but african slaves were worth 50 lbs. ad were better treated as a result. Okay, I understand where you're coming from. Ordinarily no, hatnotes would be better IMHO but a) there is a whole series of these "Class XX" railway loco dab pages;most have more than two links - e.g. Class 25 - and they are regularly added to, and b) thus there is a degree of conformity about the present series of dab pages. I have no issue with Class 04 being hatnoted at the two articles concerned, but is it worth it? --Bermicourt (talk) 14:03, 27 August 2011 (UTC)

This is the most successful drive we have had for quite a while. Here is your end-of-drive wrap-up newsletter. Participation Of the 70 people who signed up for this drive, 40 copy-edited at least one article. Thanks to all who participated! Special acknowledgement goes out to Lfstevens, who did over 200 articles, most of them in the last third of the drive, and topped all three leaderboard categories. You're a superstar! Stfg and others have been pre-checking the articles for quality and conformance to Wikipedia guidelines; some have been nominated for deletion or had some preliminary clean-up done to help make the copy-edit process more fun and appealing. Thanks to all who helped get those nasty last few articles out of the target months. Progress report During this drive we were successful in eliminating our target months—October, November, and December 2010—from the queue, and have now eliminated all the 2010 articles from our list. For your consideration, here is a different quote, to ponder, enjoy, and possibly add for balance:

Guild of Copy Editors September 2012 backlog elimination drive mid-drive newsletter Participation: Out of 37 people signed up for this drive so far, 19 have copy-edited at least one article, about the same as the last drive. If you've signed up but haven't yet copy-edited any articles, every bit helps; if you haven't signed up yet, it's not too late. Join us! Progress report: We're almost on track to meet our targets for the drive. Great work, guys. We have reduced our target group of articles—August, September, and October 2011—by about 44%, and the overall backlog has been reduced by 58 articles so far, to around 2600 articles. The biggest difference between this drive and the previous one is a stronger focus on large articles, so total word counts are still comparable. Don't forget about the Copy Edit of the Month contests! Voting for the August contest has been extended through the end of the month. You don't have to make a submission to vote! Guild of Copy Editors September 2012 backlog elimination drive wrap-up Participation: Out of 41 people who signed up this drive, 28 copy-edited at least one article. Thanks to all who participated! Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. Progress report: We achieved our primary goal of clearing July, August, September and October 2011 from the backlog. This means that, for the first time since the drives began, the backlog is less than a year. At least 677 tagged articles were copy edited, although 365 new ones were added during the month. The total backlog at the end of the month was 2341 articles, down from 8323 when we started out over two years ago. We completed all 54 requests outstanding before September 2012 as well as eight of those made in September. Copy Edit of the Month: Voting is now over for the August 2012 competition, and prizes will be issued soon. The September 2012 contest is closed for submissions and open for voting.
