Networking strategists

Quick comments on your sandbox draft, in random order:

  • Read WP:Your first article for general advice.
  • You shouldn't sign it: comments on talk pages are signed, but articles are not because nobody owns them, anyone can edit them, and credit for contributions is given by the entries in the page history.
  • The way to make a link to another Wikipedia page is simply to put the page name between double square brackets, e.g. writing [[Pinterest]] gives Pinterest. You don't need the "http://en.wikipedia..." bit.
  • Try not to sound as though you are promoting Networking Strategists. Wikipedia requires a neutral point of view
  • You need independent references, for two reasons:
  • To verify what you say. The WP:Verifiability policy says that "any material challenged or likely to be challenged must be attributed to a reliable, published source",
  • To establish that "Networking Strategist" is a notable term, in general use. Wikipedaia is quite resistant to "neologisms" - see WP:NEO - unless it can be shown that they are in general use and not just somebody's new coinage.

Longer reply to your question

I have replied briefly on my talk page, but I'll repeat it here and add a bit more. If you like to reply below here, I will watch this talk page at least for a few days, so we can keep the conversation in one place.

From what you say, I'm afraid it sounds as though, considering the policies I link below, it may be too soon for this one. Wikipedia is absolutely not here to help establish new terms so that other sites will recognise them. It works exactly the other way round: an encyclopedia doesn't report things until it can summarise what other established reliable sources have already said about them.

The key policies you are up against are:

  • WP:NEO, which starts off: "Articles on neologisms are commonly deleted, as these articles are often created in an attempt to use Wikipedia to increase usage of the term" and goes on to say that we need not just examples of a new term being used, but discussion of it in secondary sources.
  • "If no reliable third-party sources can be found on a topic, Wikipedia should not have an article about it. "
  • "Do not combine material from multiple sources to reach or imply a conclusion not explicitly stated by any of the sources." (the principle known as WP:SYNTH).

It's worth reading both those right through - even if they don't help with this one, it will be excellent education for the future.

Don't be discouraged: either do the best you can now, put it in and see whether it gets kept, or hang on to it, watch how the term develops, do other things for a time, and bring it back later when there are better sources.

You could try it on our sister project Wiktionary, which is a dictionary, but they too have fairly demanding inclusion criteria such as "Usage in permanently recorded media, conveying meaning, in at least three independent instances spanning at least a year."

Thanks for the guidance John. i'm going to hang on to it, see if I can get Some recruiters to accept the Title, LinkedIn to add it to their Skills/Expertise and some big names in Networking (Guy Kawasaki, Keith Ferrazzi, Mark Schaefer, etc) to help me promote the title for further acceptance and cite-able publications.
