Oxford Food event at the BL in May 2018

Good to meet at the Oxford Food Symposium event at the British Library. Here's the etherpad URL for the record.

Here's the deletion discussions which I mentioned:

  1. Wikipedia:Files_for_discussion/2018_May_17#File:Blood_Swept_Lands_And_Seas_Of_Red_9_Aug_2014.JPG Blood Swepat Lands – about the photo of the poppy installation at the Tower.
  2. Intuitive eating – about the anti-diet diet.

Hello again Stellawisdom! It was great to see you at the Saturday workshop, and I hope that you enjoyed the session.

I really would encourage you to keep editing! If you'd like a reminder about how to edit, there's a good guide on Wikimedia Commons that I've linked to here.

Wiki is never finished - it's a constantly evolving entity. And there are a huge community of other editors out there who can help.

Here's some links that I hope you'll find useful:

To start a new article you can use your sandbox, or the Drafts function.

You can find out more about what's happening with Wikimedia in Scotland on the WMUK site here.

If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and ask your question there. See you soon! Lirazelf (talk) 13:24, 7 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The Real-life Barnstar

The Real-Life Barnstar
Stellawisdom, I award you this Barnstar in gratitude for organising a series of talks for British Library staff about the Wikimedia projects and how they are useful to librarians, and for using your blog to raise awareness of Wikimedia and the activities it supports. Congratulations! MartinPoulter (talk) 17:57, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:Rosie Garland.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Rosie Garland.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 01:51, 3 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding replaceability of the image, it is not sufficient that a free image cannot be found, it must also be the case that a free image cannot be created. In the case of living people, it is almost always the case that a free image could be created. From the non-free content guidelines, "Non-free content should not be used when a freely licensed file that serves the same purpose can reasonably be expected to be uploaded, as is the case for almost all portraits of living people." -- Whpq (talk) 11:36, 3 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Can I request permissions verification, by using the statement template at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Declaration_of_consent_for_all_enquiries and emailing permissions-en@wikimedia.org or via logging a ticket at https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard ? Stellawisdom (talk) 12:30, 3 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it would be great to have a free photo if the copyright holder is willing to release the image under a free license. Please be aware that the copyright holder for a photo is normally the photographer and not the subject of the photo. Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission has more information about the steps. Also, Commons is the preferred place for free images so going through OTRS via Commons would be best. -- Whpq (talk) 12:42, 3 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the information, I'll try to pursue this. Can images be added to Commons with a CC BY-NC-ND license? Stellawisdom (talk) 12:46, 3 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

No.No derivatives and no commercial use are too restrictive and not accepted. See c:Commons:Licensing -- Whpq (talk) 12:50, 3 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for helping me to understand, the licensing table on that page is very useful, I've bookmarked it to refer to. Btw I love the squirrel photo on your user page Stellawisdom (talk) 12:56, 3 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

You are welcome. If you have any more questions about media copyrights and non-free media usage, Wikipedia:Media copyright questions is a good place to ask. -- Whpq (talk) 14:34, 3 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A bowl of strawberries for you!

Hi I’ve just reviewed Rosie Garland. Thanks very much for creating such an interesting and well-sourced article. Happy editing and leave a message on my talk page if you need any help. Mccapra (talk) 13:57, 19 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

This harder than I thought

I may need some hand holding through the week - I think one key drawback for me is my dyslexia and that I am not a touch typist. Anything involving a lot of typing a lot of text I get tired (and then irritated). BillYarrow (talk) 11:28, 15 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Mulberry tree coordinates

The dropped coordinates are a (hopefully short-lived) display bug across the whole of Wikipedia (it's been raised here). When it's fixed the coordinates will be back in the right place, so we shouldn't go out of our way to move articles around in the mean time. Thanks for your general work on the article! --Lord Belbury (talk) 17:35, 22 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2022 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Women in Red 8th Anniversary

Women in Red 8th Anniversary
In July 2015 around 15.5% of the English Wikipedia's biographies were about women. As of July 2023, 19.61% of the English Wikipedia's biographies are about women. That's a lot of biographies created in the effort to close the gender gap. Happy 8th Anniversary! Join us for some virtual cake and add comments or memories and please keep on editing to close the gap!

WikiProject Electronic literature

Hi there, Stellawisdom. I thought I ought to let you know that on the basis of our work on women in electronic literature, we are now developing the wider Wikipedia:WikiProject Electronic literature. Given your interest in the field, you might like to add your name to the list of participants and perhaps offer advice on contributors and works which could lead to articles. You can of course add any other suggestions on the project's talk page.--Ipigott (talk) 13:48, 4 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
