GA Sweeps invitation

Hello, I hope you are doing well. I am sending you this message since you are a member of the GA WikiProject. I would like to invite you to consider helping with the GA sweeps process. Sweeps helps to ensure that the oldest GAs still meet the criteria, and improve the quality of GAs overall. Unfortunately, last month only two articles were reviewed. This is definitely a low point after our peak at the beginning of the process when 163 articles were reviewed in September 2007. After nearly two years, the running total has just passed the 50% mark. In order to expediate the reviewing, several changes have been made to the process. A new worklist has been created, detailing which articles are left to review. All exempt and previously reviewed articles have already been removed from the list. Instead of reviewing by topic, you can consider picking and choosing whichever articles interest you.

We are always looking for new members to assist with the remaining articles, so if you are interested or know of anybody that can assist, please visit the GA sweeps page. In addition, for every member that reviews 100 articles or has a significant impact on the process, s/he will get an award when they reach that threshold. If only 14 editors achieve this feat starting now, we would be done with Sweeps! Of course, having more people reviewing less articles would be better for all involved, so please consider asking others to help out. Feel free to stop by and only review a few articles, something's better than nothing! Take a look at the list, and see what articles interest you. Let's work to complete Sweeps so that efforts can be fully focused on the backlog at GAN. If you have any questions about the process, reviewing, or need help with a particular article, please contact me or OhanaUnited and we'll be happy to help. --Happy editing! Tagging Villages as Cities

Hi! Please see the Wikipedia definition of city, and do please read the articles before tagging them as part of the Cities project. I'm having to manually remove dozens of City project tags from tiny villages in the UK, and it would be great if you could help. Thanks. .--Kudpung (talk) 13:34, 8 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Starstriker. Yes, your project may cover all municipalities, but the word 'city' does have a very different connotation in the UK and other countries. Some of the tagged places may be just hamlets with a population of probably less than 50 people with no local government or municipal power. It may be prudent not to include every place that happens to have a name in the scope of city, particularly if your project is to cover the whole world. We already have to cope with tagging from more than a dozen 'parent' projects. In European countries, a UK county (or its equivalent) is something more approaching a USA State - this is one of the reasons why various groups of Wikipedians in England have made UK county projects to be able to concentrate in more detail on the couple of thousand villages in their counties, rather than engage in a process of drive-by tagging. The end effect has the same goal: quality articles for the Wikipedia, rather than a confusion of categories. .--Kudpung (talk) 08:14, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Starstriker, thanks for your reply. I do understand what you are saying and agree with you too. What the Worcs project is trying to do is clean up the 2,000 or so articles and stubs in Worcs related categories - which simutaneously does any other projects a favour. We just hope that we too are not creating redundancy, and that the result will in fact be 2,000 articles of GA rating for Wikipedia readers, whichever way they locate the articles. However, how does that affect places that according to Wiki guidelines, are clearly NOT notable?--Kudpung (talk) 10:55, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, with your help and that of a couple of others, I have finally understood the system of project hierarchy (conduits & workhorses). I've also found some advice on Notability vs. AfD buried in the depth of guideline pages, so with my mix of Wiki policy and common sense, I think you'll be happy with the work we're doing. I only inadvertently de-tagged about two stubs. You may in fact wish to get someone to tag all the ones that aren't tagged yet. Thanks for all the tips.--Kudpung (talk) 06:21, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Assessment for Allegany (town), New York

Hello Starstriker7! I am relatively new to assessing articles for WPCities. I was going to update Allegany (town), New York to a C class, because I feel it has more structure and MOS compliance than a start, but I wanted to get your feedback on that. Thanks! --JBC3 (talk) 20:25, 9 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, JBC3.
I had rated the article as a Start-class one because it bears resemblances to many other New York settlement articles; I held those as the norm, and that a Start-class New York settlement article should have exactly what the town of Allegany has right now; if it had less material, I would have considered rating it a Stub, and if it had more material (and still held together reasonably under MOS) I'd have considered rating it of a higher class.
I personally don't think it has enough yet, and it doesn't really looked like its changed much since I did my sweeps last year. You raise good points, though.
Thanks for taking the helm with assessments. WP:CITIES really needs help in that sector.  :]
Best, --Starstriker7(Talk) 05:20, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Lincolnshire FAC

Hi there. That's unfortunate that there were not many reviewers on your FAC. For the bibliography, it's probably best to just use that as a starting point for further research. TwilligToves (talk) 05:15, 3 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Review

I am pretty busy, but will try to review it in the next several days.

As for FAs, I am not sure how I do it - I write about things I am really interested in and switch topics between several areas, which helps. I also know over half the FAs I am listed as nominator on have been with others, which helps greatly. Finally, when I am working on an article for FA I get a certain focus on / obsession with the topic and I know I will get it at least to GA. GA has been sort of a test for me - is this good enough to go on to FA? So far every GA I have gotten has eventually gone on to FA, but I have a few in mind that I think will stop there (at GA). Ruhrfisch ><>°° 02:53, 8 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry to hear that. Have you looked at the Internet Archive to see if they have a copy of the web page(s)? The link is http://www.archive.org Ruhrfisch ><>°° 11:02, 11 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I will add it back to my to do list. It will still take me several days. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 01:53, 12 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I just looked at it and see someone has beaten me to the review - sorry to be so slow. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 19:34, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I am doing OK, thanks. Busy IRL. It has been a pretty cool and wet summer in Pennsylvania - the past week there have been some pretty severe storms in the central part of the state, imagine that was what you saw. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 22:32, 11 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of File:HardinBigelowGravestone.jpg

A tag has been placed on File:HardinBigelowGravestone.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image licensed as "for non-commercial use only," "non-derivative use" or "used with permission," it has not been shown to comply with the limited standards for the use of non-free content. [1], and it was either uploaded on or after 2005-05-19, or is not used in any articles. If you agree with the deletion, there is no need to do anything. If, however, you believe that this image may be retained on Wikipedia under one of the permitted conditions then:

  • state clearly the source of the image. If it has been copied from elsewhere on the web you should provide links to: the image itself, the page which uses it and the page which contains the license conditions.
  • add the relevant copyright tag.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Wikiproject Worcestershire

Hi Starstriker7/Archive III! I am including you in this message because your previous comments on various issues have been most helpful. Since the recent creation of the Worcestershire project, several editors are making a concentrated effort to improve the articles and the overall coverage of the county. Many of us are learning as we go and since some of these issues regard Wikipedia and/or parent project policy and how we should interpret them, it may be a good idea to discuss them with a view to obtaining a consensus before we do things that may be wasting our time, or undoing the work of others. Please refer to these discussion items in particular:

and join in the debate on the Worcestershire project talk page. If you would also like to join the project as a member, please do not hesitate to do so - we need all the help we can get. Thanks.--Kudpung (talk) 06:41, 19 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Goblet of Fire

I'm doing well, and am all over Wikipedia as usual. I don't think that the television release section is necessary but there definitely should be a section on the differences between the book and film. I don't know anything on the books/films, so I can't help you with that section or the plot (which needs to be reduced). Looking over the article I saw some quick issues: the poster is missing a source, there should at least be a few brief sentences about the video game, and the citations need to be cleaned up. If you work on the article, let me know when you're done working and I can copyedit/point out any issues before you nominate it at GAN (if that's your goal). If you need help with any of the sections, let me know. --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talkcontrib) 05:42, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Central Valley

Hi there, I've just joined the California Wikiproject. I'm dropping you a note because I notice you're interested in the Valley. I am interested in working with a group of editors to improve the Central Valley's Wikipedia presence. For example, the Central Valley (California) article is assessed "top importance" but has the lowest possible quality rating. You seem especially interested in water infrastructure. I'm a student of water law and would like to better highlight the role of water in the Valley, especially the CVP/SWP. If you're willing to help with ideas or writing, then by all means drop by the project talk page: Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_California. Thanks! ferretstew (talk) 09:34, 26 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I just wanted to introduce myself and let you know I am glad to be reviewing the article Whitney High School (Rocklin, California) you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period.--Edge3 (talk) 00:37, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've passed the article. It was nice working with you!--Edge3 (talk) 03:13, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Cal Schools

It's really great what you've done to the Project. I've been in Ireland for a while and not on the internet, so I haven't had an opportunity to work on it. You seem to be putting a lot of time into the project and working very hard on your section. You thoroughly deserve to be director of Placer District. It's also nice to see someone as proud of their faith as you.

Cheers Paroxysm11 (talk) 03:06, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that this project can go far. To start, at the moment, we need to recruit helpful people and start developing the district pages. And, if you are busy, that's not a problem. There's not a deadline... :)

Cheers Paroxysm11 (talk) 19:06, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

For the recruitment situation, I really am not sure what to do. As for the scope map, why don't you draw up your thoughts on it? I'll have a look and see what can be done.

Benghazi

Hi, thanks for all the comments on the Benghazi talk page; I've only just looked at it now. I had forgotton about it; yes, it has moved on a lot, that's very kind of you to notice. After living and working there for four months, I couldn't help but share the (my) city with the world! But, it needs a lot more work to where I want to get it. At the moment, I'm so busy, but will get back to it and the Libya article soon God willing.

Thanks again for the useful comments, Jaw101ie (talk) 21:45, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
