Welcome!

Hello, SnazzyInfinity, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, one or more of your recent edits to the page Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege did not conform to Wikipedia's verifiability policy, and may have been removed. Wikipedia articles should refer only to facts and interpretations verified in reliable, reputable print or online sources or in other reliable media. Always provide a reliable source for quotations and for any material that is likely to be challenged, or it may be removed. Wikipedia also has a related policy against including original research in articles.

If you are stuck and looking for help, please see the guide for citing sources or come to the new contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

Minor and not-so-minor edits

Hello, I'm BlackcurrantTea. Thanks for your contributions to Wikipedia! I clicked on your contributions out of curiosity, and I noticed you're marking most of your edits as minor, yet the ones I looked at aren't actually minor. It's an understandable mistake – I often did the same thing when I was starting out here.

The Wikipedia definition of minor is different to what most of us expect. I reviewed Help:Minor edit many times, trying to decide if the changes I was making were minor. It helped me to think of a minor edit as a change that a reader is unlikely to notice (unless it's reverting obvious vandalism: this also counts as minor). Maybe it fixes a typo, or corrects the format of a reference without adding any new information. It doesn't change or add anything very noticeable to the page, and other editors are unlikely to argue about it.

I hope this helps. If you have any questions, you can reply to me here; I'll keep your talk page on my watchlist for a bit. Happy editing! BlackcurrantTea (talk) 04:17, 10 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for letting me know! Its very helpful since I just started being an editor. I checked out the help page and its useful, so thanks! I'm a student so I probably won't get a lot of time to work on wikipedia but I think it's a very interesting place. I like it's goals and would really enjoy to help out! If there are any interesting groups that you think I would be interested in joining, like Wikipedia:WikiProject Orphanage, please let me know. If there are any other things that would recommend checking out, please let me know! Once again, thanks! SnazzyInfinity 22:07, 10 February 2020 (UTC)

Even if you only make a few edits a month, improvements to the encyclopedia are welcome. Here's a tip: Responses on talk pages (any kind: user talk pages, article talk pages, and noticeboards) are indented using asterisks or colons. I prefer colons, but if people are already using asterisks it's best to be consistent. With each response, you add a : or *, so if you reply to this, start with :: (without the 'nowiki' tags you may see in the editing window).

For groups, check out WikiProjects in areas that interest you. An easy way to find one is to look at the talk page of an article; e.g. Talk:Lepidium arbuscula has links to WP:WikiProject Plants and WP:WikiProject Hawaii. Some subjects are easier to get started in than others; biographies of living people (usually called 'BLP') and medicine are harder, so I'd save those for later. I'm glad to see your enthusiasm, and hope you enjoy your time here! BlackcurrantTea (talk) 05:14, 11 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the tip! I believe i did the correct colon placement at the beginning of this response. I'm pretty sure I have around 60 edits currently (in 3 days!) and i'm sure by the time you read this I'll have even more. When I mentioned Wikiprojects I meant something like the Wikipedia:Typo Team where its more edit based, but thanks for the links anyways. Also, I was wondering if there is someway of marking a page as a "favorite" or something like that, that way I don't have to search for the page I'm looking for each time. At first I thought maybe the "watchlist" but it appears to be different. Once again, thanks! SnazzyInfinity 05:36, 11 February 2020 (UTC)
The watchlist lets you keep track of changes to a page. If you want to return to a page you edited (and no one else has since, so it doesn't show up on your watchlist), you can look for it in your contributions. That may sound slow and awkward, but it rarely takes more than a moment for me to find something in mine. Other than that, you could create a page in your sandbox with links to pages you want to 'favorite' or bookmark them in your browser.

For WikiProjects based on the type of work rather than the subject area, see the active projects at WP:WikiProject Council/Directory/Wikipedia. That's where you'll find the Typo Team listed, and all sorts of other things to do. BlackcurrantTea (talk) 08:34, 11 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks again, i'll check that stuff out! SnazzyInfinity 09:40, 11 February 2020 (UTC)
Quick question, is there any WikiProjects for removing links to wikipedia articles that don't exist (I think they are called dead links)? It seems like I have been removing them a lot from just clicking the "random article" button and finding an old article that hasn't been checked up on in a while. Anyways, thanks in advance! SnazzyInfinity 01:01, 12 February 2020 (UTC)
Please don't do that. The red link guideline says, 'Do not remove red links unless you are certain that Wikipedia should not have an article on the subject, or if the red link could be replaced with a link to an article section where the subject is covered as part of a broader topic'.

Sometimes a red link is the result of a typo, and those should be fixed. Sometimes they're the product of an alternate spelling; this often happens with names transliterated from languages with different writing systems such as Arabic and Chinese. If the alternate spelling is one that exists other places (in other words, it might reasonably be used by someone looking for the article), then you can create a redirect from it to the article we have; it doesn't necessarily have to be changed. Sometimes I find that there's an article about a red-linked topic in another language (or several), and I add an interlanguage link to it if I think it will help our readers. If I really think that there's no chance of the link becoming an article, then I'll remove it. Most often, I leave them alone.

Now that you know all this, I encourage you to take another look at the articles you edited and revert your changes as appropriate. There's no shame in self-reverts: editing Wikipedia is a constant learning process, and it's much better to fix mistakes. BlackcurrantTea (talk) 05:05, 12 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, thanks for letting me know, there have been a couple times where I thought, "Hmm, I feel like that is an article", so i looked it up and there has been a typo. I'll try to do that for now on, thanks! SnazzyInfinity 13:27, 13 February 2020 (UTC)
So, I have a question. I found a user called 'Angelgeekcentral", who seems to be marking a lot of their edits as minor, like I did. I want to share with them what you did with me, but I don't exactly know how. I tried to look for some kind of template (which I assumed you had used) but I could not find one. Basically, I think you should message them what you messaged me (because I don't know how or what you did) or you can point me in the right direction, thanks! (Also, as you can see I updated my signature with my links!)SnazzyInfinity (talk) 06:26, 17 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

No, that was a message I wrote, not a template. I don't have time right now; you could leave them a note yourself. There's a related template you can use, {{Uw-minor}}; the instructions are in the documentation lower down on the same page. Of course, you can always write your own message, too. Thanks. BlackcurrantTea (talk) 07:58, 17 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

What do I do if I have found a vandalism only account? I read somewhere but I do not remember what it said or where I found it. SnazzyInfinity (talk) 01:16, 3 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Follow the instructions at WP:Vandalism. For warnings, start with an appropriate level (usually 1 or 2), and remember that IPs may have changed since the edits were made. Because of this, IP warnings are usually followed by {{Shared IP advice}} (which gets subst'd). BlackcurrantTea (talk) 02:16, 3 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hello again! It has been a while, I hope my talk page is still on your watchlist. Anyways, I have a question. Recently I added some information to the Nelson Mandela page talking about how he is related to the Mandela Effect, or False Memories. And I used a reference from the false memories page. I used a reference from another wikipedia article because I thought I remembered reading another wikipedia article about referencing other wikipedia articles. Although when I did this, a couple days later, someone reverted what I had did. The edit summary said " a Wikipedia article cannot be used as a source in another Wikipedia article." So I thought that was odd and tried to find the article I had read. I looked through both Wikipedia:Citing sources, and Help:Introduction to referencing with Wiki Markup/1, to find nothing about referencing other wikipedia articles. So my question is, do you know by any chance what article I read or any other helpful pages? If you do that would be great, thanks! SnazzyInfinity (talk) 15:02, 16 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, so I have found a site that worked as a reference, (the first site was on wikipedia's watchlist). Although I am still curious about the question I asked earlier. SnazzyInfinity (talk) 15:54, 16 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. Wikipedia is not considered a reliable source. Imagine if it were: I could write that the entire population of Tokyo had been replaced by robots, and add that to every article that mentions Tokyo, citing my own edit.

Whilst I'm happy to help you, I'm not always here, and I think you might find other points of view interesting. The Teahouse and the help desk are both great places for questions like these. Cheers, BlackcurrantTea (talk) 16:40, 16 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, thanks! SnazzyInfinity (talk) 16:45, 16 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

It's and its

Hi, if you are going to be an effective member of the typo team then you need to have a reasonably good grasp of English grammar. "It's" is a contraction of "it is" (or "it has"). This means that where you find "it's" you expect to be able to replace it with "it is". There is currently no such thing as an "ownership" apostrophe with "it's". There was prior to around 1900, and you will find some quotes in older material pre-dating 1900 where it is used in this manner. These quotes are left as they are, or some editors add a hidden [sic] template entry, which is of no consequence. Consequently in Wikipedia you will find: (1) Ownership apostrophe in material that pre-dates around 1900. (2) Contraction of "it is" in direct quotes. (3) contractions in text that should be expanded per WP:MOS, and (3) faulty entries.

Let's take for instance these snippets from a couple of sentences that you wrote: ......wikipedia but I think it's a very interesting place. I like it's goals and would really.......

Where you have written, "I think it's a very...", then you can replace "it's" with "it is". Fine, you have used a contraction. Where you state, "I like it's goals...", if we insert "it is" for "it's" the sentence reads, "I like it is goals....". Doesn't make sense does it? So, to repeat; there is currently no such thing as an "ownership" apostrophe with "it's". The fact that thousands of people on the internet make this elementary grammatical mistake does not make it so.

But hey, why believe me? How about doing your own research? Try here for starters.--> A Simple Rule to Avoid Embarrassment
Please do your research and once you understand what is required please fix the Wikipedia article, Brookvale Oval. Neils51 (talk) 11:23, 12 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I guess you were right, but to a new wikipedia user, it looked like a typo. I'm an american student so English is the only language I know, and I thought I learned about this a few years back. But thank you for trying to teach me this I guess, at least you stopped me from making it wrong :). SnazzyInfinity 13:23, 13 February 2020 (UTC)
No prob. Please do take the opportunity to read the Manual of Style, here->WP:MOS. There's a lot of it, so small chunks at a time. Best wishes with your Wikipedia journey! Neils51 (talk) 18:57, 14 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the kind words on my draft

I did happen to read your message on my talk page, and I thank you for your kind words and the help. I would submit it, but since we're so small we don't have an requirements in WP:NBAND so that draft will have to wait until we can maybe get something on a chart for music. So uh, thank you, and I haven't much else to say. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Xdude gamer (talkcontribs) 15:44, 13 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A recent pending edit you accepted

Hi, it seems you recently accepted an edit here here which I reverted for the reason that most of the categories that were added do not apply and/or are redundant. Let me explain:

  1. Category:Telugu Names does not have a page, and does not apply since the page is BLP. Articles within this category are solely supposed to be about the name.
  2. Category:Telugu actors is redundant since the article already had Category:Telugu male actors
  3. Category:Actors from Andhra Pradesh is also redudant since the article already had Category:Male actors from Andhra Pradesh

Although I am not holding you responsible for this edit you accepted, I thought I would just explain why I reverted it. P,TO 19104 (talk) (contribs) 16:37, 24 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
