Ireland Wikimedia Community

Thanks for your message on my user talk page, Sharon. The kind of activities the nascent chapter of Wikimedia Ireland are working on don't interest me at all. They don't seem to me to make a big enough difference relative to the work that would be put in to make them happen. I have been in too many committee meetings that waste my time. I am interested in being involved in:

  • Code for Graphics - Logged as T56221, progressing code for graphics in Wikimedia.
  • A project to get CAMARA in Ireland to make smarter use of open educational resources in education - i.e. Educational activities, particularly for language learning, that are built around a local wi-fi enabled server in the classroom.
  • Educational (STEM) 'poster contest' in Ireland based on open educational resources.

Are you going to be at the CESI conference in Galway at the end of Feb Sharon? JamesCrook (talk) 17:25, 7 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your reply James. I think there's room for all of us, just wanted to make sure I wasn't stepping on anyone's toes. Yes, I intend to be at the CESI conference, though I'm more interested in Higher Education. But some of our members have a speaking slot, so I'm going along to support. If you'll be there, I'd be delighted to meet and chat. Sharonlflynn (talk) 21:10, 7 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sharonlflynn! We're so happy you wanted to play to learn, as a friendly and fun way to get into our community and mission. I think these links might be helpful to you as you get started.

Subject of mass mailing: Women's Football / Soccer Task Force News: August 2017

Women's Football / Soccer Task Force News: August 2017

Should the women's football task force become WikiProject: WOSO?

According to an op-ed in the recent Signpost, some editors think task forces and subgroups are dying in 2017.

What do you think about forming our own WikiProject separate from WP:FOOTY? There's an on-going discussion of the potential pros and cons on the task force talk page. Input is welcome.

Recent developments

New initiatives have been created for:

  • FA WSL (England's top-division league)
  • NCAA (American university teams, conferences, etc.)
  • W-League (Australia's top-division league)
Ongoing tournaments
Current and upcoming seasons for top-division leagues
Did you know?

While WP:FPL lists only two women's top-division leagues as notable due to its "fully professional" criteria, did you know you can create an article on any player in any league as long as the references meet WP:GNG guidelines? Make sure to tag the new article talk page with: {{WP Women's sport|footy=yes}}.

Have some new articles in mind or see some that need improvement? Add them to the Open Tasks page if you'd like and other editors may be able to help. Need tips, assistance, or resources from other WOSO editors? Leave a message on the task force talk page.

Thank you for your continued contributions to articles related to women's football / soccer (WOSO)!

Eniola Aluko of England (in white) and Jovana Mrkić (in red) of Montenegro, 2014

Hello WOSO editors! A few initiatives have been started with an emphasis on making more WOSO links blue (similar to the work that WikiProject Women in Red does) and filling in the gaps within various league, team, and player, etc. articles.

If you're interested in collaborating with others to make more links blue, take a look at the initiatives listed in the box below. Sign up at the bottom of an initiative page and help grow the lists, add potential references, resources, and create the articles ... or create your own initiative.

Did you know ...

WP:GNG takes precedence over WP:NFOOTY (which only includes the players in 1 active women's league)? Often times there is enough media coverage that meets WP:GNG or other notability guidelines. For more information, see WP:WOSO#Notability and be sure to tag the new article talk page with: {{WP Women's sport|footy=yes}}

Current and upcoming seasons for top-division leagues
Current season articles needing creation
  • Albania: 2017–18 Kampionati Femrave started in Oct
  • Algeria: 2017–18 Algerian Women's Championship started in Sept
  • Austria: 2017–18 ÖFB-Frauenliga started in Aug
  • Belgium: 2017–18 Super League Vrouwenvoetbal (nl) started in Sept
  • China: 2018 Chinese Women's Super League season started in Apr
  • Cyprus: 2017–18 Cypriot First Division started in Nov
  • Finland: 2018 Naisten Liiga started Mar 24
  • Northern Ireland: 2018 Women's Premiership starts Apr 18
  • Norway: 2018 Toppserien started Mar 24
  • Portugal: 2018 Campeonato Nacional de Futebol Feminino (pt) ends May 19
  • Romania: 2017–18 Romanian Superliga ends Jun 2
  • Switzerland: 2018 Nationalliga A ends May 26
  • Vietnam: 2018 Vietnam Women's Football Championship started Mar 10
  • Wales: 2017-18 Welsh Premier Women's Football League ends May 18

Have some new articles in mind or see some that need improvement? Add them to the Open Tasks.

Has an article you worked on been nominated for deletion? See:

Want some tips, assistance, or resources from other WOSO editors?
Leave a message on the task force talk page.

Thank you for your continued contributions to articles related to women's football / soccer (WOSO)!

Opening ceremony of the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup, Parc de Princes, Paris, June 7, 2019

Hello WOSO editors! What a 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup in France! There has been a lot of activity on tournament- and player-related Wikipedia articles with all of the worldwide coverage of the tournament and its players. Let's keep the momentum going.

WOMEN IN SPORTS EDIT-A-THON FOR JULY + AUGUST!

WikiProject Women in Red is focusing on Women in Sports during their edit-a-thon for July & August 2019.

Get all the info here: Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Meetup/126

Sign up and help fill in the gaps within various articles related to women's football / soccer - whether they be players, teams, leagues, historical, administrators, referees, etc. Every little bit helps. Be sure to tag your article talk pages with {{WIR-126}}.

These edit-a-thons are a great way to work with others to help bridge the gender gaps on Wikipedia. Thanks for your contributions!

Did you know...

WP:GNG takes precedence over WP:NFOOTY (which only includes the players in two currently active women's leagues)? Often times there is enough media coverage that meets WP:GNG or other notability guidelines. For more information, see WP:WOSO#Notability and be sure to tag the new article talk page with: {{WP Women's sport|footy=yes}}

Hello! Voting in the 2019 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 on Monday, 2 December 2019. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

Chelsea striker Bethany England scoring the winning goal in the team's 2-1 win against Arsenal at the 2019–20 FA Women's League Cup, February 29, 2020.

Hello WOSO editors!

What a year to be alive. As usual (but perhaps even moreso since there have been unexpected quarantines), there has been a lot of activity on player, team, league and tournament-related Wikipedia articles with all of the worldwide coverage of women's football / soccer. Great work!

Fall Focus: FA WSL articles

You may have noticed lots of great things going on for the top English league this year: the FA WSL. More (international!) broadcasts, top international player signings, improved media coverage, and increased viewership. Let's keep the momentum brewing, shall we?

Here's a sampling of articles that could use creation, expansion or updating. What will you commit to working on?

Historical Topics
Managers
  • Gemma Davies
  • Kelly Chambers (football manager)
  • Emma Hayes update
  • Juan Amoros (football manager)
Teams
Players
Other
  • England women's national under-15 football team (see under-16 men's for inspiration)

See also Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/Women's football task force/Initiatives/FA WSL to collaborate and organize with other editors.

Every little bit helps! Thanks for your contributions!

Women in Red 8th Anniversary

Women in Red 8th Anniversary
In July 2015 around 15.5% of the English Wikipedia's biographies were about women. As of July 2023, 19.61% of the English Wikipedia's biographies are about women. That's a lot of biographies created in the effort to close the gender gap. Happy 8th Anniversary! Join us for some virtual cake and add comments or memories and please keep on editing to close the gap!
