I was wondering if you had the time, any time really, to take a look at Friday the 13th (franchise)? I don't know if you have any interest in such topics or not, so it's cool if you don't want to review it or don't have the time. Anyway, I'm directly requesting assistance because the article has been on the request page since December 2007. Hi again! I have added the adopter template to my userpage, I notice you have added the template to your userpage, so... you have now been adopted! I've never actually done this before, and I'm still relatively new myself, so I don't really know where to begin. I guess the first thing is: if you want to ask anything (absolutely anything), just leave a message here, and I'll reply as soon as I can. I'm usually on wikipedia at least once a day, so I should reply fairly quickly. Secondly, if you get into any sort of crisis, leave me a message in the same place (here), and I'll help out. Finally, the adopter resources section recommends that I set you assignments to complete - I think this is a little too formal, but if you want to do this, I'll set you some tasks - the choice is yours. If prefer the informal approach, the usual things that new users do are:

1. Join a couple of wikiprojects and start contributing to them.
2. Learn a bit about coding.
3. Make a nice, finished, low-maintenance userpage.

1. I've joined something like 4 wikiprojects, but I find this too much, and it takes too long to check each project for new updates .etc. If you're already part of WP:LOCE, I'd suggest maybe picking one other that is your main specialty. You can always join more later - this is the thing that I forgot!
2. Sorry, here's where I get confusing - what I mean is basically learning little tricks that you type that help out greatly. For example, adding double square brackets [[ ]] around something makes it into a link - and typing <br> adds a line break. I don't mean to sound patronising, its just my ICT knowledge is extremely poor - if you already know these things, just ignore me... :D
3. You're right, the coding stuff really does link to the userpage - I learnt and experimented on my userpage, which helped a lot. I just remember reading somewhere that the userpage is the thing that most editors turn their attention to eventually.

OK then, your first assignment is... to create a nice new userbox for yourself :). Use this template if you want:

ID = the picture to go on the left hand side.
ID-C = the colour of the picture box on the left hand side.
Info = the message on the right.
Info-c = the colour of the message box on the right.

What you can do next, if you want, is 'finalise' the userbox you made. To do this, create a subpage from your userpage by typing the address in the address bar (for example, one of mine is 'http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Themoridian/SWTFUbox), and then copy and paste the userbox code from your userpage into the new page. Then, to display the userbox, you just type {{User:Sean ODuibher/subpagename}} on your userpage and the box will be automatically inserted!!

I think a progression from here is to continue jazzing-up your userpage (you can experiment with adding borders, images/captions, more userboxes .etc.) - if you need any help/ ideas just give me a shout! Also, if you want another assignment, see if you can make a major edit to an article (or create a new article altogether) - have a look in your wikiprojects in the to-do lists. Hi again, I don't know if you noticed, but your the image in your userbox has been removed by a bot because the copyright doesn't cover userspaces. I didn't realise that could happen, as it just has with all of my userboxes - so I apologise. You'll have to try and find another image for the userbox that doesn't have copyright issues. This is a piece of code for a large box - once you have changed the colours, border thickness .etc. I use this on my userpage. If you want it to encompass the whole userpage, just put it at the top and leave the </td></tr></table></div> bit at the very end of the page. All you have to do with this is change the colour, the title, and the body text to your own preference, put it inside the first piece of code, and you'll get something like this:

The mini box expands across the page as you put text in it. This is the code I use on my userpage, as I find it the easiest one to work with. Also, if you add <br> at the end of the mini box code, you can copy and paste the mini box code to give a second mini box underneath!

Good eye! Actually, the photo does appear to be the same, but the BBC credits Doug Bowman as the author; Doug Bowman is the photographer of the image at Flickr, as well. There the image is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license. See the actual image page here on Wikipedia: [1]. Also, please see the BBC page: [2]; underneath the photo (which has been reversed) you will see "A Shinto bride ©." Click the copyright symbol and that will take you to a list of credits that include Doug Bowman, along with a link to his Flickr account. Also, note how when you float your mouse over the copyright symbol it says Doug Bowman. So, the image is not copyright by the BBC, but Doug Bowman. The thing is the Military history wikiproject urgently needs prose pros to help with our best articles. Milhist covers a broad range of interesting and varied subjects from film to biography, battles to weaponry, and Roman emperors to twentieth-century dictators. In Milhist, A-Class has become the last port of call before FAC and we are looking for people to help identify prose and MoS issues at A-Class A-Class Reviews and help fix them prior to featured article candidacy. We also have a copy-editing section in our Logistics Dept and that can always use experienced copy-editors. For most of our articles, you don't need to be a specialist in the subject matter, just good with words.

Hi Sean. Because you listed "Japanese military history" as an area of interest on the WikiProject Military history page, I thought you might be able to lend some help.

I'm looking for some third parties to review a problem editor who (in my opinion) continues to violate the NPOV policy of Wikipedia on the page of a Pacific War aviator, Mitsuo Fuchida. After exhausting myself trying to maintain accurate content in the "Controversy" section, I'm asking for a page ban for this user. If you have time and motivation, I'd really appreciate your consideration to review this issue. Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! G'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its March Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:

• tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
• updating the project's currently listed A-class articles to ensure their ongoing compliance with the listed criteria
• creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now.

As we approach the end of the year, the Military History project is looking to recognise editors who have made a real difference. Each year we do this by bestowing two awards: the Military Historian of the Year and the Military History Newcomer of the Year. The co-ordinators invite all project members to get involved by nominating any editor they feel merits recognition for their contributions to the project. "Military history" is one of the most important subjects when speak of sum of all human knowledge. To support contributors interested in the area over various language Wikipedias, we intend to form a user group. It also provides a platform to share the best practices between military historians, and various military related projects on Wikipedias. An initial discussion was has been done between the coordinators and members of WikiProject Military History on English Wikipedia. Now this discussion has been taken to Meta-Wiki. Contributors intrested in the area of military history are requested to share their feedback and give suggestions at Talk:Discussion to incubate a user group for Wikipedia Military Historians.

Hey y'all, the April 2021 WikiProject Military History Reviewing Drive begins at 00:01 UTC on April 1, 2021 and runs through 23:59 UTC on April 31, 2021. Points can be earned through reviewing articles on the AutoCheck report, reviewing articles listed at WP:MILHIST/ASSESS, reviewing MILHIST-tagged articles at WP:GAN or WP:FAC, and reviewing articles submitted at WP:MILHIST/ACR. Service awards and barnstars are given for set points thresholds, and the top three finishers will receive further awards.
