A barnstar for you!!

The Royalty Barnstar
For your work on bringing Elizabeth II to Featured Article status Hawkeye7 (talk) 12:29, 21 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Main page appearance: Elizabeth II

This is a note to let the main editors of Elizabeth II know that the article will be appearing as today's featured article on June 5, 2012. You can view the TFA blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/June 5, 2012. If you prefer that the article appear as TFA on a different date, or not at all, please ask featured article director Raul654 (talk · contribs) or his delegate Dabomb87 (talk · contribs), or start a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured article/requests. If the previous blurb needs tweaking, you might change it—following the instructions at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests/instructions. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. The blurb as it stands now is below:

Queen Elizabeth II

Elizabeth II (born 1926) is the constitutional monarch of 16 sovereign states known as the Commonwealth realms, and head of the 54-member Commonwealth of Nations. In her role as the monarch of the United Kingdom she is Supreme Governor of the Church of England. She is also head of state of the Crown Dependencies. Her father, George VI, acceded to the throne in 1936 on the abdication of his brother Edward VIII. She began to undertake public duties during the Second World War, in which she served in the Auxiliary Territorial Service. On the death of George VI in 1952, she became Head of the Commonwealth and queen regnant of seven independent Commonwealth countries: the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan, and Ceylon. Her coronation service in 1953 was the first to be televised. In 1947 she married Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, with whom she has four children: Charles, Anne, Andrew, and Edward. Her reign of 72 years is the second-longest for a British monarch; only Queen Victoria has reigned longer. Elizabeth's Silver and Golden Jubilees were celebrated in 1977 and 2002; her Diamond Jubilee is being celebrated during 2012. (more...)

Bio appreciation and request

Hello. I found your stub article for Peter K. Jones about halfway down my look-ups in the list of delegates at the Virginia Constitutional Convention of 1868. I noticed that you researched the material required for a “politician info box” there. Would you consider doing the same for those noted as members of the General Assembly in the Convention article’s chart of delegates?

Jweaver28 and I have begun to perfect the Chart of Delegates by creating bio start articles and stubs for the named delegates to give them links in the chart. In my first pass, I am noting the Virginia state legislators and their terms from Swem, "A Register of the General Assembly of Virginia, 1776-1918, and of the Constitutional Conventions”.

I intend to elaborate the bios with information for Republicans from Jackson, "Negro Office-Holders in Virginia, 1865-1895” as I did for Peter K. Jones, as well as information for the few Conservatives noted in Pulliam, "The Constitutional Conventions of Virginia from the foundation of the Commonwealth to the present time” (1901).

Your addition of bio stubs for the Convention delegates who were also Delegate and state Senator -- the Republicans and Conservatives not mentioned in either Pulliam or Jackson -- would be greatly appreciated to better complete the WP resources on this topic. Sincerely, TheVirginiaHistorian (talk) 12:52, 27 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Re: D.C. Inventory of Historic Sites designations

Hi Rockhead126, I noticed that you recently added a D.C. Inventory of Historic Sites designation to a number of articles using {{Infobox NRHP}} and other infoboxes. That's a very welcome and long overdue addition. In response, I created the DCIHS article and added support for DCIHS at {{Designation}}, which allows it to be automatically updated in the infoboxes (example: Georgetown Car Barn). To take advantage of this, the articles will have to have the parameters changed to the ones used at e.g. Georgetown Car Barn. Would you be interested in taking a swing at this and updating the articles that you added DCIHS designation to? If so, adding Category:District of Columbia Inventory of Historic Sites to those articles would be very helpful too. Ergo Sum 18:34, 2 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Ergo. Thanks so much for doing this! Good timing, actually, because I was hoping to go through and label every NRHP-listed place on the inventory when I had the time. Changing the ones I've already done shouldn't take long. I'll add the new cat as well. Thanks again! Rockhead126 (talk) 19:20, 2 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

It could use a couple of revisions, like in the header, but I think it'd be really cool to work out all the kinks by February 6 to coincide with the Queen's Diamond Jubilee." Notice

The article Robert H. Patterson Jr. has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Notability not established with substantive independent sources, sourced just to a family-written obituary

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Reywas92Talk 21:48, 17 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, you still need multiple independent sources to establish notability. Anything else besides the Richmond obituary? Reywas92Talk 23:29, 17 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

That should do for now, @Reywas92. I happened upon Patterson's obituary yesterday and, after doing a bit of research, think he's notable both for his work as an attorney and for his civic/political involvement. I had a good time a few months ago getting a similar article, Eppa Hunton IV, from creation to GA status and think this has the potential to be an equally fun project when I get the time. Yearbook copyright notices

Hi there - you recently reached out at my talk page about Thomas Spragens's article, and over the last day or two I've taken your advice and uploaded several photographs of Centre presidents from old digitized yearbooks from the Centre Digital Archives. Upon looking back at these sites, though, I did notice that in the "Rights" section, many of them (all of them after at least 1925, I believe) have "All Rights Reserved" as opposed to "Public Domain", including the 1972 yearbook you used for the picture of Spragens. Does this mean that the yearbooks are actually copyright-protected or are the pictures in the public domain anyways since the book itself doesn't have a copyright notice? Thank you for your help. PCN02WPS (talk | contribs) 04:09, 9 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey again. Despite the rights notice on the website, the fact that the yearbooks were published in the U.S. between 1928 and 1977 without a copyright notice puts them in the public domain due to failure to comply with required formalities. Rockhead126 (talk) 01:29, 10 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Eppa Hunton IV

Wanted to thank you for your work on the Eppa Hunton IV article. I happened to acquire one of his works written for the Virginia Episcopal Church's history society and was really quite stunned when I found such a pleasant article. ~ Pbritti (talk) 01:17, 11 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Pbritti: Thanks for the love! Articles on subjects like Mr. Hunton are my favorite kind to work on—notable but obscure enough that I really get to use my undergraduate history degree! Compiling, often buried, information and putting it on the first page of Google search results is what Wikipedia's all about! It doesn't get any better than when said information is comprehensive and well-sourced, too. I knew not many people would read the article, but would like to think it'll get a couple of views when U.Va. Law gives out their Eppa Hunton IV Memorial Book Award every year. Actually hearing from someone who appreciated it really warms my heart. Cheers! Rockhead126 (talk) 02:55, 11 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for this edit; I can definitely understand conforming to a style for certain pages. Is there a style guide for VA politicians somewhere you can point me to? I thought 'state_delegate' and 'state_senate' params would be more specific to the subjects, as this is commonly used in other states I've edited (MD, WI, NY, VT). Is there some concern over adding details like caption to an image, spouse marriage year, occupation, etc. because it seems you just removed my additions without consideration. Dabney S. Lancaster moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Dabney S. Lancaster, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Honestly forgot about this one. I'd like to formally object to this move. Please move it back to mainspace. Rockhead126 (talk) 02:26, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
