Your GA nomination of Bahinabai

The article Bahinabai you nominated as a good article has failed ; see Talk:Bahinabai for reasons why the nomination failed. If or when these points have been taken care of, you may apply for a new nomination of said article. If you oppose this decision, you may ask for a reassessment. Daniel Case (talk) 16:19, 14 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I linked to that article as an example of the sort of thing that, when I read this, makes me ask the questions I had in the preceding paragraph. What was her long-term impact on Hinduism? Have other commentators or scholars interpreted her life and work for today? Since the article describes her writing at length about the role of women, and notes that she was unique in remaining married her whole life, I would think she would have some bearing on Women in Hinduism today. Merely recounting her life in detail isn't sufficient here for GA status. Daniel Case (talk) 05:24, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Further examples: Judging from this book under review there's some scholarship in this area:

In the following article, Mary McGee describes with great insight and empathy the life and conflicts of Bahinabai, a seventeenth-century bhakta. This Vaishnavi's profound spirituality and devotion helped her to endure her husband's almost intolerable abusiveness, and to reconcile her role as a wife and mother with her desire to dedicate herself totally to her God. Exploring Bahinabai's autobiography, the most unique among her hymns, McGee convincingly argues that Bahinabai adopted a philosophy of living in the world without really being part of it, and persuasively contends that the latter represents an example of how the conflict between stridharma1 and devotional life could be solved.

This also looks like it might have some material worth researching. And here's yet another. And I'm sure someone closer to the source than Google gets me can find other sources. Daniel Case (talk) 05:38, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Of course you covered that, we should expect as much. But as for "broad aspects" ... the article doesn't tell the reader how it is she came to be so revered after her death. She had these experiences and wrote about them ... who read them and made that call? As for the above quote, I was thinking more about the stuff at the end: "McGee convincingly argues that Bahinabai adopted a philosophy of living in the world without really being part of it, and persuasively contends that the latter represents an example of how the conflict between stridharma and devotional life could be solved" That's the sort of thing I'm talking about. Daniel Case (talk) 05:57, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, but how does it do this? That would be worth adding to the article, some critical interpretation that could be reliably sourced. We need showing, not just telling. Daniel Case (talk) 06:04, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, you did quote a fair amount of verse. But that's still a pretty cursory treatment ... I think it could be deeper, and there's nothing like sourcing someone else's interpretations to avoid any complaint of OR. (and you haven't responded to my other concern, that the article doesn't explain how she came to such posthumous regard. Who found her worthy of such acclaim and when? Almost every other biography of someone who lived four centuries ago explains this sort of thing.).Daniel Case (talk) 06:11, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I understand ... I didn't think there was a formal canonization process as the article didn't mention it (and this will be my last response for a while, it's the middle of the night where I am and I'm getting tired and I ought to go to bed). But I'd still like to know how she got to be considered a saint in her lifetime ... do any other writers of that period mention her? Daniel Case (talk) 06:36, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Userbox for GA reviews

The userbox {{User Good Articles reviewed}} has been updated so that it can now link to a page in your user subspace where you keep track of all your GA reviews, if you have such a page. This can be done by adding a | and then the name of your user subpage (or subsection of your regular user page) wherever you have the template called. For example, on my user page I am using

{{User Good Articles reviewed|6|User:Rjanag/GA reviews}}

which displays as

This user has reviewed 6 Good Article nominations on Wikipedia.

There is more information on how to do this at Template:User Good Articles reviewed.

Note: If you are not interested in doing this, you don't have to do anything; the template will still work for you exactly as it does now.

Iv been working on some Swaminarayan temple pages lately (and making some new articles on them). I realised tht the Infobox for Hindu temples does not have adequate info on this. For example, it would be good to have sub-grouping (such as Narnarayan Dev Gadi or Laxminarayan Dev Gadi) on the box as well as Installation by (Murti Pratistha) which Acharya. I was wondering whether to add this to the existing template or to make a new one. Around The Globeसत्यमेव जयते 09:35, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

If u recollect u gv a few GA suggestions on Swaminarayan some time bak. Iv been working on it today .. take a look @ http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Swaminarayan&oldid=288109041. Around The Globeसत्यमेव जयते 20:43, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, the major diff bttn World n me is how long the lead should be (our GA discussion some time bak = * The lead is short. (you) I was thinking of adding the cause of death (Samādhi) and place of death and cremation ( Gadhada and Laxmi Wadi, Gadhada) to the lead. Will that be enough - or anything else is required to be added? (me) More should added, about this worship, the sect he established, his teachings, his other work like temple construction, his books. --Redtigerxyz (talk) 11:58, 13 October 2008 (UTC)). I exp it per this and he tht it was too long. There is another small diff on the part of the info (succession) .. but as u said World n I can sort that out. Also, MoS - I changed size of pix and added a few, spacing per MoS (he actually had a misunderstanding tht it shld be right-left imgs instead of all right .. I tld him MoS says all right and he agreed on tht .. (Do not place left-aligned images directly below a subsection-level heading (=== or lower), as this sometimes disconnects the heading from the text that follows it .. most pix on the left had this prob ..)) .. he tht it was too clogged up .. I wanted a neutral view on tht. Around The Globeसत्यमेव जयते 10:56, 6 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oh and u had also suggested that 1-2 line paras b merged. Im having difficulty in merging the saints section (they have to be seperate and not in para form cauz they are diff individuals) .. would u suggest pint form (like the fundamentals section)? GA Sweeps invitation

Hello, I hope you are doing well. I am sending you this message since you are a member of the GA WikiProject. I would like to invite you to consider helping with the GA sweeps process. Sweeps helps to ensure that the oldest GAs still meet the criteria, and improve the quality of GAs overall. Unfortunately, last month only two articles were reviewed. This is definitely a low point after our peak at the beginning of the process when 163 articles were reviewed in September 2007. After nearly two years, the running total has just passed the 50% mark. In order to expediate the reviewing, several changes have been made to the process. A new worklist has been created, detailing which articles are left to review. All exempt and previously reviewed articles have already been removed from the list. Instead of reviewing by topic, you can consider picking and choosing whichever articles interest you.

We are always looking for new members to assist with the remaining articles, so if you are interested or know of anybody that can assist, please visit the GA sweeps page. In addition, for every member that reviews 100 articles or has a significant impact on the process, s/he will get an award when they reach that threshold. If only 14 editors achieve this feat starting now, we would be done with Sweeps! Of course, having more people reviewing less articles would be better for all involved, so please consider asking others to help out. Feel free to stop by and only review a few articles, something's better than nothing! Take a look at the list, and see what articles interest you. Let's work to complete Sweeps so that efforts can be fully focused on the backlog at GAN. If you have any questions about the process, reviewing, or need help with a particular article, please contact me or OhanaUnited and we'll be happy to help. --Happy editing! Iravan

Did you check these: Hindu  · BBC  · Hindu ... or best this search. I noticed that searching for "aravan" yields more meaningful stuff than "Iravan" --Nvineeth (talk) 16:07, 9 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Asaram Bapu

The page for Asaram Bapu is in urgent need of being peer-reviewed for making self-sourced biographical assertions and lack of neutrality in the tone of the article. The link for the page in question is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asaram_Bapu The comments made in peer-review request can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Asaram_Bapu/Comments--MazeOfThoughts (talk) 16:23, 10 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, am also not aware why is this happening but there appears to be a minor glitch, somehow the comments are not displayed directly on talk page, instead you have to go to this page - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Asaram_Bapu then scroll down to the WikiProjectIndia section and then click on (see Comments) in there. Please have a look. Thanks.--MazeOfThoughts (talk) 16:30, 17 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the suggestion related to removing of the bold section titles, I've made the changes to that effect. I've added appropriate inline citations at the required places. I request you to kindly go through the article and see if it can be promoted to a higher class. Kindly help. ThanksKesangh (talk) 06:25, 15 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Iravan

I couldn't find anything on religious stories and tense in Wikipedia policy. :( Personally I'm a little biased towards present tense b/c I think it is easier to understand, but that's just me. I know the GA review was in two parts and might have been confusing. (Sorry, again!) As for suggestions, well, er, I can't think of any right now... :) Kaguya-chan (talk) 19:57, 19 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Pythia

Hello. You left me a message about "de-listing" the Pythia article and checking the GAR review.

"As the GAR reviewer, I am informing you that Pythia, an article that you worked on, was delisted in GA sweeps process. My suggestions are available on the GAR page. Hope they are useful for article improvement.--Redtigerxyz Talk 06:26, 29 May 2009 (UTC)"

I'm actually and unfortunately unaware of what "GAR" means or is an acronym for, even after years of editing Wikipedia! I guess it might mean "Good article reassessment"? I'm not sure of the issues and process. Where is the GAR page? Could you please help me out? Best Wishes. --- (Bob) Wikiklrsc (talk) 14:50, 29 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your kindest reply and GAR information. I will look into fixing the article as time permits and also mention it to other editors in the classics to see if they can help. I hope I can do it in time. Please contact me if I can be of help over and beyond that. Best Wishes and Many Thanks. --- (Bob) Wikiklrsc (talk) 16:37, 29 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

New Bhuj temple article

I am currently undertaking building of a new article on the upcoming new Swaminarayan temple in Bhuj. Its an extremely important one as the original temple by Swaminarayan is being rebuilt (actually the original site is being conserved and this is being built a short distance away). Its a huge project and a grand opening is planned for next May. A new website [1] has been launched for the opening and at least a million people are expected to attend it. However, there has not been much media coverage yet, so references would be weak. I have started the article in my sandbox [2], where your welcome to help out. Also, I would be grateful if u can pass on any neutral refs u may come across. Thanks, Around The Globeसत्यमेव जयते 22:54, 30 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

GA Sweeps June update

Thanks to everyone's dedicated efforts to the GA Sweeps process, a total of 396 articles were swept in May! That more than doubles our most successful month of 163 swept articles in September 2007 (and the 2 articles swept in April)! I plan to be sending out updates at the beginning of each month detailing any changes, updates, or other news until Sweeps are completed. So if you get sick of me, keep reviewing articles so we can be done (and then maybe you'll just occasionally bump into me). We are currently over 60% done with Sweeps, with just over a 1,000 articles left to review. With over 40 members, that averages out to about 24 articles per person. If each member reviews an article a day this month (or several!), we'll be completely finished. I know that may be asking for a lot, but it would allow us to complete Sweeps and allow you to spend more time writing GAs, reviewing GANs, or focusing on other GARs (or whatever else it is you do to improve Wikipedia) as well as finish ahead of the two-year mark coming up in August. I recognize that this can be a difficult process at times and appreciate your tenacity in spending time in ensuring the quality of the older GAs. Feel free to recruit other editors who have reviewed GANs in the past and might be interested in the process. The more editors, the less the workload, and hopefully the faster this will be completed. If you have any questions about reviews or the process let me know and I'll be happy to get back to you. Again, thank you for taking the time to help with the process, I appreciate your efforts! --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talkcontrib) 18:14, 1 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Rama assessment

I just realized that this article is rated a GA! Honestly, I would be hard-pressed to assign it anything over a 'C' because of sourcing, organization, coverage, and language issues. I should perhaps nominate it for GAR but unless someone is willing enough to devote time to it, that will just result in it being demoted without any improvements for the reader. So I am conflicted on the fruitfulness of the exercise. Since you have considerable experience with the GA process and article assessments, I would like to know your views. Here is the article version that was originally promoted to GA; I couldn't locate the related discussion. Cheers. Abecedare (talk) 22:01, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have much knowledge about Rama, would be able to improve it. I agree the article is not GA status, NOT at least par with the current GA project Hinduism articles. IMO, It is C/B class, you may have a GAR, but someone soon initiate it as part of GA Sweeps: Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles/Project quality task force/Sweeps.--Redtigerxyz Talk 04:34, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't know about the sweep. Since someone is sure to nominate it in the near future, I won't do so, and try to help in improving the article instead. It's amazing how much the article standards have changed on wikipedia over the last 2-3 years! Abecedare (talk) 04:49, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I see that you had asked for image review of File:Battle at Lanka, Ramayana, Udaipur, 1649-53.jpg and this painting is almost a FP on commons. --Nvineeth (talk) 06:03, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Gautam,

I am glad you have written the article, which I am sure many more Daivajnas must have read it. I have no problem if you use any content or pictures from Daivajna.org without any obligation. Let me know if you need anything else. Good luck!

Regards, Sanjay

Thanks!

I shall soon do that! Another question!

1.Correct figures indicating literacy rate in Daivajna community are not known, but its a fact that almost all of them are literate

,how do I prove it?

2.Almost everyone in Goa knows about contribution of daivajnas to arts ,literature, drama,How do I prove that?

Is it necessary to provide firm references?

Thanks!

सहाय्य केल्या बद्दल धन्यवाद!

Hi. I am new to editing in wikipedia, and this was my first major contribution. I heeded your comments and improved the article as best as I could. I saw that the article has been assessed as C class, but it is still displayed as a start class article. When will the change be visible? Also, if you are not too busy, I would like your comments again on the improvements, and would like to know if the article could get a better rating. Thanks for your time.Shravan.Iyer (talk) 15:42, 23 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Mangeshkars are Brahmins?

This is something new you told me ! I am from Goa mate!

Dinanath Mangeshkar's father was a Brahmin(Karhada,Padye subsect),from Purohit family of Shree Mangirish Maharudra temple at Mangueshi Goa,their family name was Navathe, but only their family was entitled to perform Abhishek of Shree Mangesh Linga,so they were called as Abhishekis.Dinanath Mangeshkar's father's name was Balu Buva Abhisheki, who was a well known Kirtankar in Goa.This family still serves Shree Sansthan Mangesh.(I even know members of Abhisheki family personally)

They had left goa for these obvious reasons, and till date Lata Mangeshkar still refuses to perfrom in Goa[1]

Disambigs

Some disambigs have been recently marked as "lists" by User: R'n'B. Saw u remarked them as disambigs - suggest u sort it out with him. Thanks, Around The Globeसत्यमेव जयते 15:22, 26 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it would have been polite at least to have discussed the matter, or even given a reason for your disagreement. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 11:47, 27 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have only endorsed the initial decision of the creator (AroundTheGlobe) as a disambig as I thought it was the best classification. If it were a list, it is probably named, change it to "List of Swaminarayan temples in New Jersey". --Redtigerxyz Talk 13:54, 27 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
