It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. Valdostan vs. Valdotainian

Hi! Concerning this topic, why did you write that Valdotainian does not exist in English when a simple Google search shows these results? Thank you. --Simoncik84 (talk) 21:36, 27 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @Simoncik84:. I find zero hits for "Valdotainian" on google books and 42 on google, most of them being mirrors of the same text, probably copied from an older Wikipedia version. Kind regards, --RJFF (talk) 17:45, 1 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

List of Newspapers in Germany

Hello Could you explain on what basis did you the recent changes? Below the source material. Thanks

Indeed4 (talk) 17:03, 1 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @Indeed4: I have provided references for my changes. The description of the newspapers on the Warwick German Studies Web page in some cases differs significantly from how these papers are perceived and usually described in Germany. For example, Handelsblatt is known to be economically liberal, which is the exact opposite of being interventionist and social liberal, the author perhaps confused Handelsblatt and Financial Times Deutschland. For these inaccuracies I do not find this source reliable. Kind regards, --RJFF (talk) 17:50, 1 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, but vague description coming from a web portal with an overview of the press is ABSOLUTELY not a reliable source. For the purposes of wikipedia should be to develop scientific or expert opinion. Indeed4 (talk) 20:01, 1 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Maps of Southeast Asian history

Hello RJFF,

Thanks for the thankings. I'm will draw the maps during next week. Regarding details :

  • do you need current boarders on the map ?
  • which cities should be showed ?
  • what is the nature of the boarders of these kingdoms : well defined limit (drawn by a continuous line) ? or limit of a sphere of influence (drawn by dotted line) ? It's possible to use different types of lines in the same map.
  • which colours should be used for the different states (as I will draw a map in occitan with colours similar to the ones used in my others maps of "Indochina" but I can adopt your preferences for "your" maps) ?
  • which resolution ?
  • do you need to add important events (battle, peace treaty, revolt, people migration...) ?

And don't hesitate to add others requests regarding details. Best regards, --Nicolas Eynaud (talk) 08:51, 26 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @Nicolas Eynaud:
I am really happy that you are ready to create the maps. This has been a wish for quite some time. Actually, I made a request at German Wikipedia's map workshop two years ago, but they are obviously too busy. Now you can relieve them! Regarding the details:
  • I would rather go without current borders.
  • All of the cities in the template maps (but Bangkok and Phnom Penh should be marked in a different style or color, perhaps light gray, as they did not yet exist at that time, they are just showed for orientation). Vientiane should be labelled as "Vieng Chan (Vientiane)" and Hanoi as "Thăng Long (Hanoi)" in both maps; Luang Prabang as "Xieng Dong Xieng Thong (Luang Prabang)" in the 1300 map, but just "Luang Prabang" in the 1540 one. If you could conveniently fit them in, it would be ideal to also mark Jinghong (labelled as "Chiang Hung"), Keng Tung, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Thakhek (labelled "Sikhottabong"), Roi Et, Si Satchanalai, Kamphaeng Phet, Martaban, Suphan Buri and Nakhon Si Thammarat in the 1300 map; Jinghong ("Chiang Hung"), Keng Tung, Lampang, Xieng Khwang (you find the coordinates in the Dutch Wikipedia, but please use the spelling "Xieng Khwang"), Nakhon Phanom, Phitsanulok, Lop Buri, Suphan Buri, Dawei ("Tavoy"), Tanintharyi ("Tenasserim"), Nakhon Si Thammarat and Pattani in the 1540 map. But all of them are dispensable if the map risks to become too cluttered.
  • All "borders" in both maps are in fact just limits of the respective zone of influence, not actual borders in the strict sense.
  • I do not have a strong preference regarding the choice of colours. It might be favourable to use the same colours as in File:Southeastasia 1317 map de.png, File:Southeastasia 1380 map de.png and File:Südostasien 1450.svg for consistency. But I would give you a free hand in this question.
  • Perhaps in the range of some 1000x1000 px? I don't know...
  • Special events are not necessary.
  • If possible, it would be ideal to use a light grayscale relief map as the background layer, as in the Southeast Asia maps I referred to above. But that would be just the icing on the cake and not a necessity.
  • If you want to put the jewel in the crown, you could also add the neighbouring Burmese states, using File:Burma_c._1310.PNG and File:Burma_(Myanmar)_in_1545.png for orientation. Unfortunately these maps are not very exact, so this may be too cumbersome. It is not necessary, as I want to focus on Indochina anyway.
I really cannot tell you how thankful I am for your offer. I think these maps will be a great addition to several articles. Hopefully, you will have some fun creating them! Kind regards, --RJFF (talk) 11:34, 1 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
OK.--Nicolas Eynaud (talk) 12:34, 1 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, is that okay for the first map ? --Nicolas Eynaud (talk) 12:32, 4 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
And for the second ? --Nicolas Eynaud (talk) 13:18, 4 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Nicolas Eynaud: Excellent! Thank you very much! Is it still possible to replace the spelling of 'Lan Sang' by 'Lan Xang' and 'Ayudhya' by 'Ayutthaya'? The should, if possible, be consistent with the repective Wikipedia articles Lan Xang and Ayutthaya Kingdom. Sorry that I forgot to make you aware of this beforehand. Then, it would be perfect indeed. I can't wait to embed your maps in the articles where they were very much needed. Kind regards, --RJFF (talk) 17:16, 6 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, I will upload a new version with the corrections during the week but you can embed the maps without problems : the correction will be automatic. --Nicolas Eynaud (talk) 08:18, 7 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Nicolas Eynaud: (and RJFF): I now had the time to look at the maps and share some of my thoughts: First if not the relief map is used (which I too would like to see) it would be good to see at least the most important rivers. Is that possible? And a caption showing the time depicted by the map. In the lower right corner maybe?
About the content I looked in the Atlas of the history of South East Asia. There the borders are a bit broader and mostly no space between the countries - which may depend on the style or way to look on these states. About the 16. Century: Lan Chang goes a bit more South there (including Champasak), in the North it includes Muong Moi. --Don-kun (talk) 18:42, 4 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Don-kun: (and Nicolas): I trust David K. Wyatt (who is the source of the Cornell Uni maps) more than the Atlas of the history of South East Asia. The broader definition of the "states" that reduces the space between them may look nice on the map but has little to do with historic reality. The mountain ranges between the realms were settled by "hill tribes" who had (due to their very different lifestyle) little contact with the "civilised peoples" who ruled the "states" – so these spaces inbetween (sometimes covered under the keyword "Zomia") did not belong to any "state". There is literature dealing with this exact phenomenon, e.g. Jean Michaud, Mountain Minorities in the South-East Asian Massif (2000); Willem van Schendel, Geographies of knowing, geographies of ignorance (2005); James C. Scott, The Art of Not Being Governed (2009). Also Champasak was only conquered by Lao settlers around 1700, after the collapse of Lan Xang. Before that it was settled by Kuy people who were somehow close to the Khmer, but had no relation to Lan Xang. I am afraid that the Atlas of the history of South East Asia is inaccurate in this regard. I cannot say anything about Muong Moi. To be honest, I have never heard of that place.
I agree that a relief map or at least the marking of major rivers would be a great addition, but I am modest and very happy with what I got! --RJFF (talk) 17:51, 6 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Rattanakosin Kingdom article title

RJFF, would you have any ideas regarding the title of the Rattanakosin Kingdom article? I renamed it from History of Thailand (1768–1932) (and split out Thonburi Kingdom) back in 2009, but as I've mentioned on the talk page, the current title's still slightly problematic since technically the Rattanakosin period is still ongoing, though the article's coverage ends with the end of absolutist rule. I couldn't think of any widely used scholarly term that'd be appropriate. The Thai Wikipedia uses what would translate as "Rattanakosin Kingdom (under absolute monarchy)" but that's even clunkier than using years in parentheses. I also thought about how "Early Rattanakosin" is used to refer to the 1st–3rd reigns, but then no scholarly sources seem to use Middle or Late Rattanakosin (understandably, since doing so would seem inauspicious). Do you have any suggestions, or is the title fine as-is? My concern is that the former country infobox might creep in again if things aren't 100% clear-cut. --Paul_012 (talk) 12:00, 30 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Recentism issue Wat Phra Dhammakaya

RJFF, I have deleted quite some content from the Wat Phra Dhammakaya article. Let me know if you feel the WP:RECENTISM issue is solved yet. And while you are at it, do you mind reassessing the article as well? The article has been expanded a lot since it was last assessed many years ago.--Farang Rak Tham (talk) 17:38, 12 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello User:RJFF, because you've made a lot of edits to the article, I was wondering if you think I should add Benny Benassi (chart history here [3]; hit song "Beautiful People") to the music section gallery? Italians have made great contributions to electronic music, but it isn't represented in the gallery, I would've chosen Robert Miles first, but he has no images on Commons, compared to Benassi, [4].--Theo Mandela (talk) 10:21, 24 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Pinging me and Harley Hartwell on the talk page

@Harley Hartwell: Thank you for pinging me and Harley Hartwell on the talk. I do not login regularly but I try to answer all messages as soon as I see them. However, in this case, Harley Hartwell and I agreed earlier that we should make no further public comments on the case to avoid any complications. We wish you all the best and we are sorry that the comprehensive ban may direct the attention and the burden onto other projects. We still believe in the "free" concept of our Wikipedia but we also understand that our projects differ greatly in level of maturity, resources and support. The Thai community has made a difficult and unthinkable choice for short-term survival but has no ill intention to leave the entire mess elsewhere. --Taweetham (talk) 11:19, 20 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

ANI discussion

I've started an ANI discussion over the case here. This is the requisite notification, as you were mentioned. Feel free to or not to join the discussion. --Paul_012 (talk) 17:00, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
