Welcome!

Hi Prince Wednesday! I noticed your contributions and wanted to welcome you to the Wikipedia community. I hope you like it here and decide to stay.

I've noticed that you've expressed an interest in the Arab–Israeli conflict. Unfortunately, due to a history of conflict and disruptive editing it has been designated a contentious topic and is subject to some strict rules.

The rule that affects you most as a new or IP editor is the prohibition on making any edit related to the Arab–Israel conflict unless you are logged into an account and that account is at least 30 days old and has made at least 500 edits.

This prohibition is broadly construed, so it includes edits such as adding the reaction of a public figure concerning the conflict to their article or noting the position of a company or organization as it relates to the conflict.

The exception to this rule is that you may request a specific change to an article on the talk page of that article or at this page. Please ensure that your requested edit complies with our neutral point of view and reliable sourcing policies, and if the edit is about a living person our policies on biographies of living people as well.

Any edits you make contrary to these rules are likely to be reverted, and repeated violations can lead to you being blocked from editing.

Introduction to contentious topics

You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Additionally, you must be logged-in, have 500 edits and an account age of 30 days, and are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on a page within this topic.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

To enforce an arbitration decision, and for WP:ECR violations, you have been blocked from editing Wikipedia for a period of 1 week Wikipedia. You are welcome to edit once the block expires; however, please note that the repetition of similar behavior may result in a longer block or other sanctions.

If you believe this block is unjustified, please read the guide to appealing blocks (specifically this section) before appealing. Place the following on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Please copy my appeal to the [[WP:AE|arbitration enforcement noticeboard]] or [[WP:AN|administrators' noticeboard]]. Your reason here OR place the reason below this template. ~~~~}}. If you intend to appeal on the arbitration enforcement noticeboard, I suggest you use the arbitration enforcement appeals template on your talk page so it can be copied over easily. You may also appeal directly to me (by email), before or instead of appealing on your talk page.

ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 15:28, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reminder to administrators: In May 2014, ArbCom adopted the following procedure instructing administrators regarding Arbitration Enforcement blocks: "No administrator may modify a sanction placed by another administrator without: (1) the explicit prior affirmative consent of the enforcing administrator; or (2) prior affirmative agreement for the modification at (a) AE or (b) AN or (c) ARCA (see "Important notes" [in the procedure]). Administrators modifying sanctions out of process may at the discretion of the committee be desysopped."

@ScottishFinnishRadish Why are you blocking me just for requesting an edit? I was already in the middle of posting the second talk message when you sent me the contentious topics notice, and I didn't see your notice until after I had finished posting. You are too heavy-handed. Please unblock me; there is no reason for the block. Prince Wednesday (talk) 15:34, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Unsourced edit requests about highly charged situations are disruptive, and you should not be engaging in that topic area at all, especially disruptively. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 15:39, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@ScottishFinnishRadish You are misusing your admin privileges. Prince Wednesday (talk) 18:10, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The instructions for appealing are included in the block notice. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 18:12, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Unblock appeal

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Request reason:

Please copy my appeal to the arbitration enforcement noticeboard or administrators' noticeboard. I believe the admin acted with excessive severity in enforcing this block. Firstly, I was already posting my second comment when the contentious topics notice was added to my talk page, so I couldn't have seen the notice before posting. Secondly, these were just edit requests on talk pages, not edits to the articles themselves. Even if my requests were incorrect, they could have been easily ignored. The admin/editor was not justified in removing them from the talk pages and issuing a block. The requests could have been ignored due to lack of sourcing. I request that the block be lifted as it was unjustified, and my comments be restored, allowing readers to consider or disregard them as they see fit. Prince Wednesday (talk) 21:30, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

I think you are lucky you got off with only a one week block. I think if you wish the block to be ended early, you need to provide the incredibly reliable source meeting WP:RS that you used to justify your edit request but which you somehow failed to include in your request. Short of that, I see no possibility the block will be lifted early. I should warn you, I am aware of no such source that would fit these requirements, but that's on you. Yamla (talk) 22:04, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Note once your block expires, you are required to avoid editing about the Arab-Israeli conflict, broadly construed, until you meet the criteria outlined above. --Yamla (talk) 22:05, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
