Re: Typhoon Cimaron(2006)

Hi Pika ten10,

I just wanted to stop by and let you know why I redirected your newly-created page to an existing one. I noticed on the talk page of the 2006 Pacific typhoon season article that you suggested this and, being bold, went ahead and did it.

While I am very happy you made that call, I simply have an alternate suggestion I would like to share with you here. Basically, take the new content you put together for the article you created (accessible here) and put it into the existing section. Continue to expand the existing section to the point where it absolutely dominates the article and then split it off into a new article. The reason for this is very simple: new articles don't get a whole lot of attention compared to existing ones. By making your edits in an existing space, you maximize the number of editors who will read, improve, and expand upon them. This, in turn, means you will have more people following the content when it is split off into a new article, which in turn improves the content there, and so on and so forth.

I hope you don't take this as a message not to be bold; you're certainly welcome to undo my redirect and continue on with making the article. Rather, I just wanted to ensure that valuable resources such as yourself are being used to their full potential.

Feel free to drop by with any questions or comments you may have. Happy editing! --jonny-mt(t)(c)Tell me what you think! 11:50, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please Adopt Me...

Good Evening. I'm Tintin, male, from the Philippines. You know, I've just been recently editing some articles [i.e. the 2006 Pacific typhoon season and a "new aricle", Typhoon Cimaron (2006)]. To be more familiar with the editing and deletion policies here in Wikipedia (I think that you can update me of any editing new policies in Wikipedia), can you please adopt me?

If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, you may please see and put your message in my talk page. Thank you for reading this message. --Pika ten10 11:17, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there :)
How're you going?
I'd be happy to adopt you! Is there anything specific you wanted to know first?
Looking forward to your reply- CattleGirl talk 08:32, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry if I couldn't talk with you these days. I've been especially busy of my school requirements, though I've been editing some more articles for grammatical errors or deleting a few nonsense words. Ah, I almost forgot... you can adopt me anytime. As of now, I don't have any questions but I'll approach you immediately if I do have. Thank you for replying, my dear friend...--Pika ten10 (talk) 12:33, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Done.
Exactly the same here, I've been away unexpectedly for a week, so sorry about that.
That's fine :) If you think of any questions, be sure to ask, and I'll give you suggestions along the way.
Cheers- CattleGirl talk 08:12, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for adopting me... I may ask that can I write nothing to my "Edit Summary" box? You know, I always write a summary about my edits on a page, but that I think it just wastes my time, especially on a talk page. Please, I need your urgent reply... -Pika ten10 11:30, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is the Wikipedia Signpost subscription free(i.e. you'll never pay anything)?? You know, I want to subscribe on the signpost! :) -Pika ten10 11:36, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome!
Well, of course you can write nothing in the edit summary box, but it's generally a good idea, because it shows other editors exactly what you've been doing. It saves time so people don't have to look at diffs to see the differences in a page- and of course, if later on you'd be looking at being an administrator, accurate edit summaries is something that editors look for.
You don't have to be really comprehensive, usually I just write 'reply' or similar on talk pages and that's pretty sufficient, unless it's a fairly large edit, where I'll go into more detail.
The Signpost is free, and it's a pretty good idea to subscribe, it's pretty interesting.
I think that's it- feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. Cheers- CattleGirl talk 22:53, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why is it important to wikify a page instead of using HTML??? -Pika ten10 (talk) 13:25, 13 December 2007 (UTC) I think people editing Wikipedia must be given freedom on what format to use in an article.[reply]

-Pika ten10 (talk) 13:28, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for taking so long to reply... christmas etc.
The way I see it, wikification is important because most people, myself included, don't know sufficient HTML to edit a page. Also, HTML is a bit cluttery... as it does the job, there's a lot of text there (just look at my signature!)
Just something I noticed to improve your editing (wikification again, I suppose...)... It's a good idea when you reply to a message to start a reply with a colon= : . That'll indent your message the way mine will.
So one colon will look like this
Two will look like this
Three will look like this
and so on and so forth.
Just makes it a bit easier to read replies, etc.
Cheers- and if I don't talk to you before then, have a great christmas :) - CattleGirl talk 08:41, 20 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Although I agree on you indentation, can you please allow to do non-indentation...? This will be our format if any of us will start a new topic for discussion. That is so that we will understand that one of us has started a new discussion.

Thus it will be this: TOPIC FOR DISCUSSION 1

Speedy deletion of Template:User Socialist

Thank you for experimenting with Wikipedia. Your test worked, and the page that you created has been or soon will be deleted. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you want to do. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[Talk:Template:User Socialist|the article's talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Your question

I'll admit I was a bit shocked and offended. I'm not going to hold it against you, as it's not like you know me, but his views were so awful that I presumed that any sane person would condemn him, and so there didn't seem much point saying anything but "and, of course, I blocked him". I find his views vile, and would never support them. Adam Cuerden talk 03:54, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can you please put an explaination of your reasoning on both talk pages. Kingjeff (talk) 05:33, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Eastern Front (World War II)

Would you like to explain to me why you removed the redtags from this article?--mrg3105 (comms) If you're not taking any flak, you're not over the target. 12:22, 17 February 2008 (UTC) Are the red tags important??? -Pika ten10 (talk) 12:26, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Would it not have been a better idea to ask in the talk page first before editing? Yes, they are very important because they define the structure of the Eastern Front periodisation and the two hundred articles of operations that will linked to them.--mrg3105 (comms) If you're not taking any flak, you're not over the target. 12:45, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What that one who did that has done was linking, not redtagging. If you want to edit that so it would be redtagged, use the font tag with attribute color="red". OK??? Complaints??? Put it below...

Hey, just to let you know, I reverted your change to the aforementioned article. IMO, the previous version looks neater, and it's consistent with the other list articles. If you wish to change it, you could bring it up on the talk page. Cheers. ♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 02:19, 21 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fung-Wong

How is the storm where you are? It just picked up here about 30 minutes ago after what is left of the eye passed just south of us and now we are getting the back side of the storm and have lost our protection from the mountains. Do you want to lead making the article for this storm? I am willing to do it, but I am not experienced at writing tropical cyclone articles. ludahai 魯大海 (talk) 07:24, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I know Taiwan is hard-hit by the storm, but at least we say that my location is affected by the storm... Yesterday here was a day of almost unstoppable rain until night came, as the storm-intensified southwest monsoon (See it here...) brought us rain. (Oh thank God, the weather's improving here today...) Here is what shall we do: We'll make the effects of Fung-wong in Taiwan be the priority and we'll sideline the effects of the storm in the Philippines. Agree??? -Pika ten10 (talk) 07:38, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Let's wait to see the havoc this wrecks in Fujian. China may well suffer worse from this than us. For all of the flooding and landslides, I have yet to hear of any fatalities (pray to God that it stays this way.) China often gets far worse casualities and damage than we do even though it will be a tropical storm by the time it gets there - BTW, I think with Taiwan's next advisory at 5:30, it will be downgraded to a tropical storm. My prayers to you and your compatriots. I have a lot of Philippine friends here from Church. We often send aid down there and I am sure we will again after this storm. ludahai 魯大海 (talk) 08:10, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I hope you're all right there in Taiwan... It's again raining here... By the way, I want you to hear our President's State of the Nation Address today. She's performing it right now! Before that, do you have any power??? My prayers and thanks for your help. -Pika ten10 (talk) 08:50, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
We are ok here, though the weather has definately gotten worse the past few hours. I heard your president gave a speech. I admire her for doing the right thing even when it isn't easy to do. We have such a joke here for a president, it is driving me nuts. To my surprise, this storm is still being reported as a typhoon. This does NOT bode well for China. ludahai 魯大海 (talk) 11:09, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The rain has gone now... And we have classes tomorrow. As you know, we have our classes in elementary and high school suspended. (I'm still a graduating high school student.) Our president here is brilliant, yet our congressmen here (most of them are her political allies) are very corrupt. As such, she's generally unpopular here, as evidenced by the protests even during the time she was rendering her speech! -Pika ten10 (talk) 11:22, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If you want to reply, you can just send me an e-mail at [email protected]. I hope you reply there!! -Pika ten10 (talk) 11:25, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: redirection

Well, pretty much all of the other button bars were redirected to the same place. The place where it was redirected to isn't much of the issue. It's to have just one talk page, as generally issues on the button bar will affect all buttons. ♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 02:16, 31 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, the button bar is for 2008 Pacific typhoon season, and not for others. In this case, each button bar for each season is separate from each other and, due to the preceding principle, changes in one button bar cannot necessarily affect all others. So, do you mean here changes in the button bar of 2004 Atlantic hurricane season will also affect others??? I'm sorry to say that, but I want each button bar to have its talk page independent of the others, as it looks proper [to me]. -Pika ten10 (talk) 02:32, 31 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
How often would one have to talk about the button bar? The rules for it are very well-set; it is adjusted by whatever the NHC's advisories/TCR has it at. If there is talk to change a color, that particular issue wouldn't affect a single page, but rather all of the button bars. For the Pacific typhoon button bar, which was added this year, there was discussion, before its creation, on the season article talk page. I can't really think of an example when discussion would be needed that couldn't be held either of those two places. ♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 02:39, 31 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Then I think it is better if you redirected it to the talk page where that discussion of the creation of that template was held so that one who wants changes to the Pacific typhoon button bar will never be confused how that button bar started... Furthermore, it is not the National Hurricane Center which is the RSMC of Northwest Pacific, but the Japan Meteorological Agency, so this would mean it would be correct if we would have it there, as JMA and NHC have different basins and analyses for each storm... Is that alright??? -Pika ten10 (talk) 02:51, 31 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think it is a huge deal. Again, most changes would be largely superficial, and would affect most button bars. I brought up the discussion here of where to move it or not. Part of the problem of redirecting it to the 2008 PTS talk page is that cross-space redirects are not allowed - that is, redirects must remain within the same page type (either article, template, image, portal, etc.) I don't think it would be optimal to have each button bar have their own talk page, since that would require everyone to have every button bar watched! That's why I think it is easiest in having all of the button bar talk pages redirected to a single place. ♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 03:03, 31 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed blackout in protest of RA 10175

Dear Pika ten10,

Greetings!

As a Filipino Wikipedian, I hope you are aware of the passage of Republic Act No. 10175, also known as the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, which was signed into law by President Benigno Aquino III on September 12, 2012. Currently, there is a discussion on the Tambayan, the noticeboard for Philippines-related topics, about a proposed blackout of the English Wikipedia in the Philippines in order to protest the passage of RA 10175, similar to the blackout against SOPA and PIPA held earlier this year. I feel that your input on the subject will definitely help in the discussion.

Please feel free to participate in the discussion at Wikipedia talk:Tambayan Philippines#The Cybercrime Prevention Act, and I hope your input will help the Filipino Wikipedia community determine which is the best course of action against this law. Similarly, we hope to get as much input from as many Wikipedians as possible.

Thank you and maraming salamat po!

Kind regards,
