Answer

Eh, thanks, that's very nice. I'm getting the hang of it. If you'd come back full time, Jimbo told me to say you'd have double your previous pay and 3 crackers a week! Haha, seriously, it would be cool if you want to come back. :P Mattaidepikiw (Talk)

I have been contributing excessively, more than any human being can think of :P I can't praise enough CS wolves for all he's doing, I didn't realise the scale of it back then. I hope you come back, there is sooo much work to be done, and it is fun! I think you are a very kind girl for giving me that barnstar, but what is more important is the message you said in it. I sometimes go read it on the rare occasions I'm telling myself: why the hell do I even do this? But then I look at articles that would be shorter and I think it's worth it. It'd be cool if you could answer :) Mattaidepikiw (Talk) 04:36, 16 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It's nice that you've still got the passion, this place needs it! Green-eyed girl (Talk · Contribs) 07:27, 4 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Giro-time

Oh, hello! Ah, don't worry about it; from what I can see, the blog is going rather well! It's tough to get an editing bug back, if you don't chew upon it for several months... but stranger things have happened! Loads of shenanigans going on cycling with all the "oh yeah, he's doping" allegations flying about. What-a-pain-in-the-ass. I've seen very little racing also, due to work during the weekdays. But I have seen most of the weekend races that have televisual coverage. Some really odd races, Roubaix especially. Cycling's just one of the areas to cover nowadays. :)

Hope you're well. Craig(talk) 10:10, 4 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Oh I've had a busy last few months, no question. I could tell you some stories, but I'm basically good. I notice that the Giro start list here has a 108 on it. Can't find one on Gazzetta -- did they issue the number again? I say good if so. Pointless bit of sentimentality retiring it. Wouter's gone and nothing brings him back.
But it'll be fun to see how the race goes. Weird that, with all the talk of time trialing being huge, it's the first Giro in several years not to start or end with one. Go Ryder!! Green-eyed girl (Talk · Contribs) 12:52, 4 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
And I've stopped caring about doping. Got caught up in the Lance stuff a few months back, because how the fuck could I not, but I'm so past giving a crap.
Good to hear! Contrary to several websites that I have seen 108 being issued again after its year hiatus, 108 has not been issued again, according to the Twitter feed of the Giro itself. It is a bit stupid; They never retired a number after Kivilev's crash at Paris-Nice or Casartelli at the Tour. Yeah, it's an unusual Giro this one, with bookending road stages, and about 75 km of time trials. Unusual. I really do hope Nibbles beats Wiggins; the Team Sky war is getting rather tasty. Crazy Colombians in the mountains too. Apparently Walsh is after Cancellara now, from quotes in the Belgian media. Bonkers. Craig(talk) 13:11, 4 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Ah yes, I'm just hearing some of this Team Sky stuff. Wiggins wants to ride the Tour to win, does he? Sounds like gamesmanship. I can't support Astana. Too many bad associations, and that stink doesn't just wash off. Much as I always have liked Nibali, as long as he's wearing that blue and gold I can't count myself a fan. So my eggs are all in Canada's basket. Or Australia's I guess, that'd be all right, but Evans is riding the Giro mainly to train for the Tour, no? Don't know who else that would leave. I saw a lot of names on the start list that seem top-10 at best or plan for peaks later in the year (like Sanchez...or are Euskaltel splitting GC captaincy three ways? Sanchez/Anton/Nieve?). I don't buy what(ever) Scarponi's selling, never have. Never will. Too bad there's no Basso, he could probably still phone in a 7th place. I heard waaaayyyyyy too much information about why he had to pull out. /pukes Green-eyed girl (Talk · Contribs) 08:46, 7 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Oops, only just seen this response! Wiggins is being his arrogant self, knowing how much damage Froome could do, like the stage up to Peyragudes (?) in last year's Tour before Sky reined him back. Evans is a funny one; I've heard rumours that BMC have put all their eggs in the Tour basket for van Garderen, but that may just be rumours. I believe he is doing Tour of California next week, so we'll see from there. Basso's injury must be very uncomfortable on a saddle... Craig(talk) 07:06, 9 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Still sounds like gamesmanship to me. It's true that Wiggins would have won the Tour last year even if there were no time trials at all (if it was just time taken on the road stages), but that's on the team. Not Wiggins himself. While Wiggins is a good-to-very good climber and an absolutely superlative time triallist, I think you could flip-flop those for Froome, and the Tour route obviously favours him. The Vuelta, which is always less chrono-heavy than the Giro or Tour, doesn't seem to especially favour either (though Froome-dawg could probably stomp the Angliru). Sky could easily still contend there with someone like Henao, Urán Urán Urán Urán Urán, or Porte. I think I'll be keeping one eye on it.
Likewise interesting to project how the Giro will go. Seems a dead certainty that Wiggins will be in pink after Saturday's chrono. Everybody else seems to just want to limit all losses to him. He could take minutes against even Hesjedal/Evans/Nibali, all reasonably good chronomen themselves, on such a course. That'll make Sunday interesting, as I have to think they'd tactically relinquish. But that's one of those things that's a lot easier said than done (lots of ways to foul it up -- and we've seen that happen before at the Giro). Two weeks is a long time to defend the jersey, but it's not like Wiggins can just soft-pedal the chrono -- he needs to take time there. I haven't closely examined the route, but with a medium-mountain stage the next day it all just fits together. But again, easier said than done. Green-eyed girl (Talk · Contribs) 08:18, 10 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Scratch "dead certainty" now! Though it's probably only reduced to "likely." Green-eyed girl (Talk · Contribs) 16:08, 10 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Well, that was quite an interesting weekend of stages. To put it mildly! Craig(talk) 17:39, 12 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Love this race! :D Green-eyed girl (Talk · Contribs) 01:50, 15 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The Grand Tours have been wild of late. Evans causing BMC a headache for the Tour, Urán causing Sky a headache at the Giro, but at least it isn't as warm as the Tour of California! Craig(talk) 18:39, 15 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
After seeing the end of Hesjedal (sadface :( ) we've now seen the end of Wiggins. I'm very surprised. I wonder who will be next! Green-eyed girl (Talk · Contribs) 03:57, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Pink Jersey stats

Woops guess I had a minor typo there, thanks for the pointing that out. Also glad to see you active again! Disc Wheel (Malk + Montributions) 00:07, 6 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Cool, just making sure. And I don't know how long I'll be around. I've got my own stuff going on, but the Giro does draw me back :) Green-eyed girl (Talk · Contribs) 00:25, 6 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Okay good to know, well welcome back for the Giro at least then! Like yourself, I'm starting to get things going on so I'm probably going to be taking an almost permanent leave in the coming future. Disc Wheel (Malk + Montributions) 22:03, 6 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Best of luck! I don't know how long you've been doing this, but there's only so long you can give your heart and soul (and your time) to a project and get nothing in return but some shiny things on a page you happen to call your own. WP:WIP, and it'll never be finished. That's part of the reason I walked away. I feel good about my body of work, and I'm happy as fuck to see the rough template I forged out used on other Grand Tour articles (your handiwork, right?). But ultimately the effort/reward just isn't there. I did this for over 5 years and I didn't, and still don't, expect anything in return, so I think I come out pretty damn altruistic. But I think everybody's got that line. Sounds like you're getting to it. As someone who's been there, let me just say clearly -- it's not a bad thing. Frankly, you wouldn't have that feeling if you didn't assign some value to what you've done here. And there's bound to be a new generation of nerds waiting to fill our shoes :P And this is why somebody like Craig (Cs-wolves) continues to amaze me. He's a content machine, and that machine is powered by the damn Energizer bunny. He's nuts, but we're all better off for it :)
What have you got going on for yourself, if you don't mind me asking? I've got my volleyball blog, and I'm planning to greatly expand my coverage this upcoming NCAA season, but I'm also planning to start a shoestring film production company sometime this year, too. All of that...yeah, kinda takes away the free time I had to spend endless hours here :P Green-eyed girl (Talk · Contribs) 08:46, 7 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah I believe did use your lead format and page style as the basis for the articles that I worked on and it was largely successful. There's just so many of them and so few willing to actually put the effort into improve them, so I know the goal of getting the Giro d'Italia to good list status would be impossible. Craig is one heck of a dude; he just keeps doing it and I applaud him for that. Okay a blog and film production would definitely keep my time constrained as well. What type of films are you thinking of getting involved with? My leaving of wikipedia is a combination of just being tired of editing (and the fact that I'm not really getting anything out of it like you said above), exams are about to start, and then I'm starting college in the fall. Disc Wheel (Malk + Montributions) 20:51, 7 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed, that day will come for everyone. As far as the film production, it may not actually happen this year (it's gonna take a large up-front investment), and it'll be humble beginnings to start with. It'll mostly just begin with scripts I wrote myself. Hopefully at some point it will actually be a thing! My screenwriting tends to be...pretty dark. I write a blog about it, too. Don't update it as often, and it's kinda become my go-to place to just bitch about things in addition to being about my writing. This post will give you some idea of what I'm writing. Green-eyed girl (Talk · Contribs) 21:38, 7 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Okay well I like the blog's name haha. And I do wish you the best of luck with those scripts and the film production company that you aim to begin. The one thing I really want to do before I get on a semi-permanent hiatus is to get the Giro d'Italia page to GA status. And I was wondering if you could just take a quick glance over to see if there is anything that I should add to the page, cause at this point I'm out of ideas of what to add (outside of a little more to the mountain stages). If you don't/can't I understand, just throwing that out there. Disc Wheel (Malk + Montributions) 00:56, 8 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, I'll comb through it. I can already see a few things at a glance that are a bit off. I'm really not a fan of that infographic on the right of the screen near the beginning of the article, for one. I'll give it a good, long look. Green-eyed girl (Talk · Contribs) 02:35, 8 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Good to know good to know and thanks for the help! Disc Wheel (Malk + Montributions) 20:36, 8 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Is a guy that lives in my brain, popping out every time I mean to say Philip Deignan >.< I'm glad you're back :) Mattaidepikiw (Talk) 02:02, 18 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure how long it will last. Playing it by ear. As you seem to be the caretaker of the Tour of California page, let me point out to you that there's semi-official corollary to WP:ENGVAR with regards to date formats and units of measurement. The article follows the first, but not the second -- kilometres are given first with miles as the conversion. It should probably be the other way around. Also, more ENGVAR goodiness -- use either the "abbr=on" parameter or the "sp=us" for the conversion, so that either "kilometers" or the abbreviation "km" are used. Green-eyed girl (Talk · Contribs) 06:52, 18 May 2013 (UTC);;ok, well the articles a[reply]
OK, well I did that for the stage headers, but the articles all give it in km... I'll see what I can do. Mattaidepikiw (Talk) 22:54, 18 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Another thing is jerseys in the stage tables. I'd also ditch the "Stages" level 2 heading and have each individual stage be its own level 2 heading (rather than having them be level 3's). Some standards that have been handed down through community-vetted CYC articles. Green-eyed girl (Talk · Contribs) 00:56, 19 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Look, I'm already tired of writing it. Please don't discourage me more. Mattaidepikiw (Talk) 01:27, 19 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Ditch at any time. Tell me to fuck off at any time. It's all good. Green-eyed girl (Talk · Contribs) 02:14, 19 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, not my style to tell someone off or abandon something I started without finishing it. I just had a hard day that's all. Thanks for your advice, I know you meant well, I'll probably add the jerseys later on (I'm not doing the table, another editor does that, thank God!) I wonder how Cs-Wolves does it, I only do an eight stage race and I obsess about it lol :) I'm probably OCD a little bit! Mattaidepikiw (Talk) 02:36, 19 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
No offence was meant. You're doing a great job :) Green-eyed girl (Talk · Contribs) 19:56, 19 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, that's appreciated. :) I'll write the last stage either tonight or tomorrow, I'm totally knackered, I did ride 100 km today. It was fantastic though :) Do you ride some? Mattaidepikiw (Talk) 21:07, 19 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
No, I don't. I ran track and cross country when I was in school. Slowly :P These days it's more like jogging. Green-eyed girl (Talk · Contribs) 09:33, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Good Articles Recruitment Centre

Hello! Now, some of you might have already received a similar message a little while ago regarding the Recruitment Centre, so if you have, there is no need to read the rest of this. This message is directed to users who have reviewed over 15 Good article nominations and are not part of WikiProject Good articles (the first message I sent out went to only WikiProject members).

So for those who haven't heard about the Recruitment Centre yet, you may be wondering why there is a Good article icon with a bunch of stars around it (to the right). The answer? WikiProject Good articles will be launching a Recruitment Centre very soon! The centre will allow all users to be taught how to review Good article nominations by experts just like you! However, in order for the Recruitment Centre to open in the first place, we need some volunteers:

  • Recruiters: The main task of a recruiter is to teach users that have never reviewed a Good article nomination how to review one. To become a recruiter, all you have to do is meet this criteria. If we don't get at least 5-10 recruiters to start off with (at the time this message was sent out, 2 recruiters have volunteered), the Recruitment Centre will not open. If interested, make sure you meet the criteria, read the process and add your name to the list of recruiters. (One of the great things about being a recruiter is that there is no set requirement of what must be taught and when. Instead, all the content found in the process section is a guideline of the main points that should be addressed during a recruitment session...you can also take an entire different approach if you wish!) If you think you will not have the time to recruit any users at this time but are still interested in becoming a recruiter, you can still add your name to the list of recruiters but just fill in the "Status" parameter with "Not Available".
  • Co-Director: The current Director for the centre is me (Dom497). Another user that would be willing to help with some of the tasks would be helpful. Tasks include making sure recruiters are doing what they should be (teaching!), making sure all recruitments are archived correctly, updating pages as needed, answering any questions, and distributing the feedback form. If interested, please contact me (Dom497).
  • Nominators, please read this: If you are not interested in becoming a recruiter, you can still help. In some cases a nominator may have an issue with an "inexperienced" editor (the recruitee) reviewing one of their nominations. To minimize the chances of this happening, if you are fine with a recruitee reviewing one of your nominations under the supervision of the recruiter, please add your name to the list at the bottom of this page. By adding your name to this list, chances are that your nomination will be reviewed more quickly as the recruitee will be asked to choose a nomination from the list of nominators that are OK with them reviewing the article.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to seeing this program bring new reviewers to the Good article community and all the positive things it will bring along.

A message will be sent out to all recruiters regarding the date when the Recruitment Centre will open when it is determined. The message will also contain some further details to clarify things that may be a bit confusing.--Dom497 (talk)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited 2013 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Zhang Xi (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). RFC Levi Leipheimer images - 2013 rationalization possible or necessary?

Hi - your semi-retirement is noted, yet you historically were a major contributor to the article Levi Leipheimer. I am not sure what is your current degree of interest in the subject (Especially given semi-retirement), but if any, would you please check the article talk page and provide feedback on the possibility or even necessity (if any) of rationalizing image selection and layout for the article? It would be most appreciated. I am trying to rally some contributors to provide said feedback but have not gotten much actionable guidance. Understand you might not be interested or available to respond, but if you can spare even just a few mins to look over current state of things there w/ respect to images and how they're laid out, it would be helpful, especially if you see any obvious or necessary changes/improvements. Thanks. Azx2 16:15, 9 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Actually I never contributed anything but a few minor/stylistic edits to that article (I generally didn't contribute much to biographical articles in my more active days; I preferred to write about teams and races). And he's someone about whom I'd like to start forgetting. Sorry, can't help. Green-eyed girl (Talk · Contribs) 23:50, 4 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
