Sooner or later, we will see a worm that attacks Wikipedia :-(. I suspect this to be the trial run, as the only thing in common between these two addresses is that they are both broadband connections - and the damage to the articles is of the kind that is pretty hard to do by hand and pretty easy by a script. If this is indeed an attack, it is very sneaky, as the damaged article does not appear to be vandalized at the first glance. Once additional changes are applied after the vandalism, the changes will be very hard to revert cleanly. I will be very happy if I am wrong in my suspicions. Hi Moxfyre! I wanna ask you a completely wikipedia-un-related question. Hope it's okay. I recently bought a cromoly touring frame. Italian built, completely lugged. Pretty decent thing. The fork which came with the frame is a unicrown one. It has all the needed brazeons and nice clearance for fat tires. But people have very bad reviews about unicrown forks. What are your experiences? Does it really handle badly? Would you suggest anything else?

thanks man, rather quick answer! :) your friend is right, drivers here in istanbul are crazy and mean and ill-tempered :D getting hit on the head with a coke can is a daily matter here! :) anywho I read that there was some comfort issues with unicrown forks but it's cool to hear good things form someone who actually uses them. I'm thinking of this bike as a commuter and tourer. sort of the EVERYTHING bike many cyclists dream of. it's a mixte frame with internal wiring and all. as Grant Petersen says, we'll all [probably] be riding mixtes sooner or later.

Look, I really have a very difficult time understanding what the heck this is all about.

I did a lot of work to make a diagram that was accurate and informative and, in my opinion, attractive. I can mention that I made an Excel spreadsheet where I calculated to the exact pixel how big each rectangle should be, even taking into account the thickness of the rectangle walls (2 pixels). If you look at my diagram at 300% viewing you can see that everything is crisp - rectangle walls are exactly 2 pixels thick, except for the full frame shadows that are exactly 1 pixel thick.

The resulting PNG was only 17 KB, making it very efficient.

Then along comes someone and flags it as a candidate for SVG conversion. That is complete bullshit - it's small and looks OK and nothing will be gained by converting it to SVG.

Then along comes Hotshot, and, God help me, runs the PNG through a tracing process to vectorize it! This is guaranteed to introduce a certain level of error because the diagram data it not 100% accurate; it is by necessity rounded to the nearest pixel. (If the diagram really had to be re-done as a vector-based graphic, I would expect the person doing so to be conscientious enough to enter the data properly from the specified dimensions for each sensor, not do a quick-and-dirty tracing.)

On top of that Hotshot does a sloppy job of entering the text (spelling mistake, superscript 2 not superscript), and sets the font size too large. And the resulting SVG is 52 KB, making a mockery out of any justification for converting from PNG to SVG.

Incidentally, you mention on your latest posting that the file size is not important because the graphic is shown as a thumbnail. This is not true, it is not the server but the browser that resizes the graphic - the full file is sent over the Internet every time. (Even if you were right, the performance hit would still affect the server, it has to read the unnecessarily-large file from its hard disk.)

Anyway, the SVG has been manipulated and now it's been rasterized. So we started with a crisp and exact (as exact as possible) raster graphic and end up with another raster graphic that is less exact (two conversion have been done, and each conversion introduces some error), not crisp (look at yours at 300% viewing and you can see that it is blurry due to anti-aliasing), text still too large and also blurry, and the file is 3.5 times larger.

What exactly is the point of this exercise?

On top of everything else, it now says, if I understand it correctly, that the file is a condidate for deletion!

I hope you can understand that something like this makes me loose all motivation to use my free time to try to make things that will be of use here on Wikipedia.

Well, DPReview inconsistently calls them SLRs and "SLR-like". You are right about the beam-splitter. (I had let myself be told that it used a moving mirror, like "real" SLRs.)

Good point. Those cameras are annoyingly resistant to classification:

• Unlike all other SLRs, they lack interchangeable lenses and reflex mirrors.
• Unlike all other bridge cameras, they have only a single through-the-lens optical path shared by the viewfinder and sensor.

The SLR article defines SLR cameras in terms of "an automatic moving mirror system". But I agree with you that the single, through-the-lens optical path is the relevant feature when you get down to it. Hi both! ǝɹʎℲxoɯ asked me to come here and help with the discussion. I don't own a E-20 (frankly, I have never seen one in real world!) but as far as I've noticed (while reading about it, before creating the article), most reviwers and professionals call it a "SLR-like" camera.

Classifications become hard when facing a camera with unusal features. A while ago, I had a similar problem with Canon PowerShot S5 IS, which lacks an interchangeable lens, yets is mostly classified as a dSLR-like (and as Cannon calls it, "compact") camera.

So you're saying that if I keep the revision history log, it won't be necessary to actually upload the individual revisions of the file itself? - A couple of days ago I actually looked around WP for clarification for the "revision history log", but found nothing. Uploading all the individual revisions of the file itself seems tedious - unless the file's size has notably changed, or it has been cropped i guess.

Hi. It is very important that you fix your signature. Your current signature breaks templates. Here is what a template which includes three instances of your current signature looks like and here is the same page after I fixed your signatures. All you need to do is go to your preferences and change your signature to:

As you can see, all that needs to be done is to replace one "|" – the one that's visibly displayed in your signature – with "|". (The other three "|"s, which are used in piped links, are fine.) The signature will look and work exactly the same, but it will be compatible with templates.

(By the way, I used to include "upside down" characters in my signature too!)

Wikipedia is one of the most-visited sites on the internet—and it’s created by people who volunteer their time to write and edit pages. Learn how to edit Wikipedia and be a part of shaping our understanding of our world. In this workshop, volunteer Wikipedia editors will be on hand to train participants on how to get started editing pages and offer ideas for which pages you can pitch in to help improve. Show up at any point during the four hours to get started!

Also: Free burritos!! We will be providing vegan, vegetarian, and meat burritos from food cart Loncheria Las Mayos. Alder Commons has a large, fenced playground. Children are welcome! Some computers will be available to borrow, but if you have a laptop, please bring it to use. We will also be leading an online training for new editors at 11am-12pm PST. Please feel free to join that training if you are not able to show up IRL.

OJMCHE

The Oregon Jewish Museum and Center for Holocaust Education (OJMCHE), in partnership with social practice artist Shoshana Gugenheim and as part of the Art+Feminism Project, will host an International Women's Day Wikipedia Edit-a-thon to edit and/or create Wikipedia articles for Jewish women artists. The event will be held at the museum on Sunday, March 10 from 11am-3pm PDT. Pre-registration is preferred but not required. Members of the public are invited to come to the museum to learn about the editing process, its history, its impact, and how to do it. We aim to collaboratively edit/enter Jewish women artists into the canon. An experienced regional Wikipedian will provided will be on site to teach, support, and guide the process.
