MorbidEntree - I have tried to change my friends name on her old band page. Larry Sapp is now Raine Von Kiska and I added her current/correct name to the information. This individual has transitioned and changed her name and would like her accomplishments linked to her new name as well as her old one. I know this individual personally and can verify this information. What is needed to do so? I can't tell from the guidelines listed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sunnybunny5us (talkcontribs) 14:29, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

@Sunnybunny5us: Sorry about that. The edit looked more like a joke/vandalism when I first saw it when I combined it with your account being new. --MorbidEntree - (Talk to me! (っ◕‿◕)っ♥)(Contribs)(please reply using {{ping}}) 16:53, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

MorbidEntree - So can I go back on there and change her name then? Or request that it be done? Or do you need some sort of proof? (If so, then what do you need?) I spoke with her today regarding this. She said she would prefer it to be credited as Raine Von Kiska (aka Larry Sapp). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sunnybunny5us (talkcontribs) 23:21, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

@Sunnybunny5us: I'm not sure about what kind of proof is needed for this kind of thing. But if it's anything like the process to get copyrighted material on here, then she may need to contact the Wikimedia foundation in order to prove it or something. I suggest that you ask at the Teahouse to get more accurate information. --MorbidEntree - (Talk to me! (っ◕‿◕)っ♥)(Contribs)(please reply using {{ping}}) 23:33, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

I am not sure what relation this other article has to the subject at hand. I am not asking to publish anything copyrighted nor discuss the royalties or contracts of the band. I just want to help my friend get her name corrected. She has changed her gender and legally changed her name. We can prove that she used to be Larry Sapp. What do you need? Here is an example of a couple of articles written about her. http://www.metal-archives.com/artists/RVK/129877 , https://www.discogs.com/artist/3729222-Raine-Von-Kiszka Is that what we need? If you do require personal documents, tell they need to be submitted and I will let her know. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sunnybunny5us (talkcontribs) 11:19, 2 August 2016 (UTC)

@Sunnybunny5us: Well if you have a reference that can prove the change, then go ahead and make the change on the article and include that reference. -- MorbidEntree - (Talk to me! (っ◕‿◕)っ♥)(Contribs)(please reply using {{ping}}) 18:53, 2 August 2016 (UTC)

Professor Ben Bowling

Hi there

I have added lots of external sources to the entry I created for Professor Ben Bowling here:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Professor_Ben_Bowling

Are there any particular ones that I need to get rid of in order for this to be approved? What specifically is holding the entry back / or is missing in order to get this live? He is mentioned elsewhere on Wikipedia (i.e. in this entry on race and crime in the UK: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Race_and_crime_in_the_United_Kingdom ) so seems sensible for him to have an entry on wikipedia too.

Thanks

Is there a way to change the width of the {{infobox user}} template? -- MorbidEntree - (Talk to me! (っ◕‿◕)っ♥)(please reply using {{ping}}) 02:31, 3 August 2016 (UTC)

Daniel Radcliffe is a fan of the New York Giants

Weren't the sites that I provided reliable sources? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Redom115 (talkcontribs) 23:32, 3 August 2016 (UTC)

@Redom115: No, YouTube is not a reliable source as it is user-generated content. -- MorbidEntree - (Talk to me! (っ◕‿◕)っ♥)(please reply using {{ping}}) 00:59, 4 August 2016 (UTC)

Reliable Sources

It was an official interview. The Ellen show does have records of Daniel Radcliffe's time with Ellen. So I ask again, how exactly is it not reliable? Anyway if you want a non youtube source then:http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d828a54e2/article/harry-potter-hits-the-nfl-draft?module=HP11_headline_stack, http://www.foxsports.com/nfl/story/daniel-radcliffe-harry-potter-star-loves-fantasy-football-100813 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Redom115 (talkcontribs) 05:03, 4 August 2016 (UTC)

@Redom115: You can go ahead and suggest the edit again with those sources (since they are more reliable than a YouTube source) and try to explain why it should be included as well. -- MorbidEntree - (Talk to me! (っ◕‿◕)っ♥)(please reply using {{ping}}) 05:10, 4 August 2016 (UTC)

Has the Brea Police Department submitted their images under a CC-BY-SA license? If so, upload them to the Commons.--Launchballer 12:58, 5 August 2016 (UTC)

Please note the above information is incorrect. Yes, most, but not all, content released by the Government of the United States of America is public domain. photos needed for article review submission?

thanks for responding to me a few days ago. I am about ready to do as you said, to submit my article for review. But first can you tell me, please: should I wait until the photos are posted on my article? A few weeks ago I sent in the completed wiki photo permissons OTRS, and was told it can take up to 3 months for them to be posted. So, do I need to wait, or should I go ahead and submit the article for review now without photos? If now, what happens if they allow my article to be live....does it go live right then or do they get back to me before it goes on the internet? Learning the ropes here at Wiki is quite the new experience....ha. thanks Spacestar7 (talk) 22:51, 5 August 2016 (UTC)

If you are certain that the content of the drafted article is solid, then you should submit it for review. Almost every article on Wikipedia should be able to exist without any images and still be informative. So images are just supplementary to the actual content of the article. Also, if the draft is accepted, then there will be a redirect from it's current link made that will redirect anyone who visits it to its new link in the article namespace. So there should be no problem with OTRS adding the image to the article if it is accepted. -- MorbidEntree - (Talk to me! (っ◕‿◕)っ♥)(please reply using {{ping}}) 23:11, 5 August 2016 (UTC)

Quick question about MfD's

(Since I got no replies at the Help Desk, I thought I'd ask with this template)

If a MfD is older than 7 days and has no discussion whatsoever (no keeps, delete, or anything else) then should it be closed as delete or should it be relisted for discussion? The reason I ask this is because WP:RELISTINGISEVIL doesn't really include this kind of situation. -- MorbidEntree - (Talk to me! (っ◕‿◕)っ♥)(please reply using {{ping}}) 11:27, 6 August 2016 (UTC)

If in doubt, do nothing and leave it to an administrator to close the discussion. WP:RELISTINGISEVIL is an essay, not a guideline or policy. Huon (talk) 11:45, 6 August 2016 (UTC)
Remember that there is obligation to close discussions after 7 days, but in this case it sounds like the discussion could be closed No Consensus per the Deletion process. AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 11:48, 6 August 2016 (UTC)

Closure of the Draft:HUB&SLOTS (game) MfD

Hello, MorbidEntree. Could you elaborate on your decision at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Draft:HUB&SLOTS (game), and provide a rationale for why the draft needed to be deleted?

It's not that I think that the draft needed to be salvaged (I looked for reliable sources and couldn't find any), but I'm worried by "not having someone actively working on the draft" to be the official reason for deleting a draft, as it could set up an unwanted precedent (the whole point of Draft space is to wait until someone takes them for improvement - deleting them before anyone does it is a catch-22). I would be glad if you could rewrite the reason of the closure to be based on its lack of independent references and/or its promotional nature, whichever you think was the most relevant for the deletion. Thanks! Diego (talk) 12:23, 8 August 2016 (UTC)

@Diego Moya: I'm sorry, but "not having someone actively working on the draft" was not my reason in closing. My reason was that nobody in the discussion volunteered to userfy and improve the draft (as was suggested here) and the draft wasn't in a state to just sit around with no one working on it, so I decided to close it as delete. -- MorbidEntree - (Talk to me! (っ◕‿◕)っ♥)(please reply using {{ping}}) 12:34, 8 August 2016 (UTC)
Yeah, but "no one volunteers to userfy and improve it" causes not having anyone working on the draft, and that's not a reason to delete drafts. The resulting consensus of the Draft RFC is that drafts do not have an expiration date and that "those with some potential should be allowed to stay". Therefore deleting a draft requires a explicit reason that doesn't depend on the the time they would go unedited or the willingness of people to edit them at any particular point in time. That's why I'm asking you to make explicit the actual reasons that justify deleting that draft. Diego (talk) 13:12, 8 August 2016 (UTC)
@Diego Moya: True, that was more of a supplemental statement so the people in that discussion wouldn't think I just glazed over what they said. I'll go ahead and reword it to make that obvious. -- MorbidEntree - (Talk to me! (っ◕‿◕)っ♥)(please reply using {{ping}}) 15:58, 8 August 2016 (UTC)

Information icon Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. You appear to be repeatedly reverting or undoing other editors' contributions. Although this may seem necessary to protect your preferred version of a page, on Wikipedia this is known as "edit warring" and is usually seen as obstructing the normal editing process, as it often creates animosity between editors. Instead of reverting, please discuss the situation with the editor(s) involved and try to reach a consensus on the talk page.

If editors continue to revert to their preferred version they are likely to lose editing privileges. This isn't done to punish an editor, but to prevent the disruption caused by edit warring. In particular, editors should be aware of the three-revert rule, which says that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Edit warring on Wikipedia is not acceptable in any amount, and violating the three-revert rule is very likely to lead to a loss of editing privileges. Thank you. Help with configuring custom templates with Twinkle

I've been configuring the custom templates options in my Twinkle settings. There are some templates that I'd like to use that have article variables in them, is there a way to put these templates in the config so that the "linked article" text box in the Twinkle pop-up will work with them? -- MorbidEntree - (Talk to me! (っ◕‿◕)っ♥)(please reply using {{ping}}) 13:51, 10 August 2016 (UTC)

Never mind, it apparently fills in the first unnamed variable automatically. -- MorbidEntree - (Talk to me! (っ◕‿◕)っ♥)(please reply using {{ping}}) 14:06, 10 August 2016 (UTC)

Whack!

You've been whacked with a wet trout.

Don't take this too seriously. Someone just wants to let you know that you did something silly.

You have been trouted for: having to undo all this hard work because you didn't know how Twinkle works. -- MorbidEntree - (Talk to me! (っ◕‿◕)っ♥)(please reply using {{ping}}) 14:09, 10 August 2016 (UTC)

Juozas Ambrazevičius

Hello,

I saw you deleted a text I added to the original article saying it violates copyright. But how do I have to proceed in order to write my own text where there is no copyright ? ? Do I have to certifie it in a certain way ? Do I have to include links to anything saying the same thing ?

Please thanks for your feedback

@Piet snotterbel: You just have to read the text and rewrite it in your own words. Don't just copy and paste it into the article. -- MorbidEntree - (Talk to me! (っ◕‿◕)っ♥)(please reply using {{ping}}) 15:44, 10 August 2016 (UTC)

Draft:Mel Gilden (writer)

My problem is this:

Mr. Gilden had a seven-year career as the radio host of the only science-fiction program on the air at that time. He has more than 60 published science-fiction and fantasy novels. He is a beloved friend of Harlan Ellison, Jerry Pournelle, Larry Niven, Barbara Hambly, and many others in the science-fiction community. This is all verifiable information.

However, Wikipedia requires citations. There are virtually no available citations. The major portion of Mr. Gilden’s career was pre-Internet. His reviews in newspapers and now discontinued magazines have turned out to be ephemeral at best and certainly not definitive or supportive of his accomplishments.

The facts remain that his radio work and his books exist.

The citation requirement, while understandable as a tool for sifting out unverified entries, precludes the inclusion of real information like the facts about Mr. Gilden’s work. Considering the remarkable amount of pop-cul trivia about every movie, song, and comic book that fills Wikipedia’s pages, I find this situation unfortunate.

So, delete my draft. If I can ever gather the kind of support required, I’ll resubmit in the future.

Formatting my userpage heading

How can I style the heading of my userpage and user talk page? (like to have it in a different colour or something) -- MorbidEntree - (Talk to me! (っ◕‿◕)っ♥)(please reply using {{ping}}) 03:34, 13 August 2016 (UTC)

@MorbidEntree:, it should be something like this: {{DISPLAYTITLE:User:'''Ng'''<span style="color:red">YShung</span>}} at the top of the page. This will generate "User:NgYShung" in the user page. You can use CSS to stylize the text like in the example. You can review the documentation: Template:DISPLAYTITLE. Happy editing! NgYShung huh? 04:30, 13 August 2016 (UTC)

Information icon Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment; or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button ( or ) located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

August 2016

I've already asked you to stop replying to me, and today you posted on my user page, an unblock celebration template. Today I posted a section on Administrator's Noticeboard, you shouldn't be commenting on my posts since it is bias. I don't wish to come in contact with you any further. Thanks Hawkeye75 (talk) 04:47, 15 August 2016 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Hawkeye75 if you are templating him for something as mundane as dropping a signature, your request that he leave you alone is ridiculous. Talk page bans have no policy basis and are unenforceable. If you want him to leave you alone, you leave him alone. Pretty simple if you think about it. John from Idegon (talk) 05:11, 15 August 2016 (UTC)
@John from Idegon: Leaving some alone won't resolve any problems, I constantly need to tell him to stop posting on my talk page, dating back 5 days ago. Second, we shouldn't be comparing two different sections on this talk page here, these are 2 completely different issues. Hawkeye75 (talk) 05:16, 15 August 2016 (UTC)
And yet you are still posting on his talk page whilst demanding he not post on yours.....I am not part of your royal "we". Just someone with vastly more experience than either of you trying to give you some friendly advice. Don't take it if you wish. Your business. Wise people know when to listen and when to talk. Someday you may understand. John from Idegon (talk) 05:23, 15 August 2016 (UTC)
@Hawkeye75: All of my posts on your talk page have been rather constructive. Also, discussions do not tend to only discuss whatever the OP (original poster) posted about. There's no policy demanding that a new section be made on a talk page for each little issue, nor that every editor only comment on what the OP brought up and not anything else. --MorbidEntree - (Talk to me! (っ◕‿◕)っ♥)(please reply using {{ping}}) 05:45, 15 August 2016 (UTC)
@Hawkeye75: I thought that a little congrats on getting your rights back would have been acceptable. Are private proxies allowed for use on Wikipedia?

Would it be allowed if I used my own private server as a private proxy while editing on Wikipedia? I know that WP:PROXY disallows the use of an open proxy, but what about a closed, private one? --MorbidEntree - (Talk to me! (っ◕‿◕)っ♥)(please reply using {{ping}}) 09:12, 15 August 2016 (UTC)

Not an admin, but I am involved with some of the open proxy detection here - where would this private server be hosted? We tend to block a lot of VPS IP ranges proactively, but if this server was physically hosted at your home address then it wouldn't matter. I'll keep the template open to allow any admins to comment -- samtar talk or stalk 09:57, 15 August 2016 (UTC)
@Samtar: No, it would go through a droplet that I have set up on DigitalOcean's VPS service. --MorbidEntree - (Talk to me! (っ◕‿◕)っ♥)(please reply using {{ping}}) 10:14, 15 August 2016 (UTC)
Well I'll let an admin confirm (I would but I'm distracted at work!), but I think DO's ranges are likely blocked.. @UY Scuti: can you comment? -- samtar talk or stalk 10:34, 15 August 2016 (UTC)
Only open proxies (available for anyone to use) are explicitly blocked from editing as {{blocked proxy}}. So, as long as the proxy is private i.e. only you can use, it won't be blocked. However, IP ranges which are allocated to webhosting or colocation webhosting companies might be blocked anytime as {{webhostblock}} or {{colocationwebhost}}, which might render your proxy useless. IPBE is an option. Regards—UY Scuti Talk 15:03, 15 August 2016 (UTC)

You stated that that was a test. TEST's are to be constructed in the sandbox. Fighting with user's is never gonna get you to admin for future advice. Hawkeye75 (talk) 09:37, 15 August 2016 (UTC)
@Hawkeye75: Correct, but as you can see (if you use Twinkle) that the user talk sandbox page doesn't allow the use of Twinkle's warning function on it. Therefore, I have to resort to making sure that new things I add to my config of Twinkle work by doing a quick edit and undo on my own talk page. --MorbidEntree - (Talk to me! (っ◕‿◕)っ♥)(please reply using {{ping}}) 09:42, 15 August 2016 (UTC)
Than why don't you start a new section instead of replying to me, trying to make me look bad? Hawkeye75 (talk) 09:44, 15 August 2016 (UTC)
@Hawkeye75: God no, it's just that's how Twinkle handles adding warning templates. It looks to see if the section at the bottom of the user talk page is the same as the month and year that is current and if it is (like it was when it was added), then it just adds to the bottom of that instead of making a new section.
(talk page watcher) @Hawkeye75 and MorbidEntree: Cut it out the both of you - I strongly reccomend you both go find something else to work on instead of bickering -- samtar talk or stalk 09:39, 15 August 2016 (UTC)

My application for AWB rights seems to be ignored

I recently reapplied to get rights to use AWB, but it seems to have been ignored or something as everyone else got processes, but mine is still sitting there after a few days. Is there any way to draw attention to it or do I just have to wait for someone to come along and see if they respond to it? --MorbidEntree - (Talk to me! (っ◕‿◕)っ♥)(please reply using {{ping}}) 06:59, 16 August 2016 (UTC)

It's best to wait, as it has "only" been two days - given your previous request within in the last 90 days, admins may look at what's changed in relation to the original decline reason. This often takes a little longer to do. If you've not heard anything in the next couple of days a polite message on an active admin's talk (BU Rob13 is relatively active there) may prompt some action. @Ronhjones: Would this be a case for the #switch parser function? --MorbidEntree - (Talk to me! (っ◕‿◕)っ♥)(please reply using {{ping}}) 23:49, 18 August 2016 (UTC)
I've dabbled with the parser functions in the past - which is why I knew where the page was. But it's always been a case of "try and see" - you can have a template in any page to try - they don't have to be in template space until you have a working one. just adding the doubles braces around a page name works fine. e.g. {{User talk:MorbidEntree/template1}} OR use the sandbox templates {{X1}} to {{X20}}. Also try asking at Help talk:Template Ronhjones  (Talk) 00:01, 19 August 2016 (UTC)
A parameter's given value is what you pass to it. If you have {{foo|bar}}, then {{{1}}} is "bar", and {{example|val=test}} would give {{{val}}} as "test". I'm not sure what you mean by "checking a param's given value". To see what a parameter is doing, you have to go to the template itself. I'm going to close the helpme for now; feel free to ping me with a more specific question (and/or examples) or re-open the helpme if you feel so inclined. Primefac (talk) 00:12, 19 August 2016 (UTC) Huon's right; I just completely misread your question. Still happy to answer any further questions if you'd like (just ping me). Primefac (talk) 00:41, 19 August 2016 (UTC)
{{#ifeq|{{example}}}|A|Something to be used if the parameter is "A"|Something else}} will check if the value of example is A or not. If you want to check whether it is A or B or some third option, you'll indeed have to use #switch. Huon (talk) 00:20, 19 August 2016 (UTC)
@Huon: Thanks, I'll go ahead and use that. --MorbidEntree - (Talk to me! (っ◕‿◕)っ♥)(please reply using {{ping}}) 02:19, 19 August 2016 (UTC)
@Huon: Just as a note, you need to put a : after the {{#ifeq for it to work.

Be careful please

Fixing spelling errors via semi-automated tools is a laudable task, but you need to be a lot more careful or you'll wind up breaking things and/or creating work for others.

First saw this: This is "misspelled" because it's part of a URL that is now broken (possessive sans apostrophe, not plural).

That sort of thing tends to be part of a larger pattern, so I checked the other recent misspelling edits and found:

  • This? -- It's a proper noun spelled the "incorrect" way.
  • You corrected spelling in someone's sandbox. Then when they reverted, you did it again!
  • Changing the wording of a quote?

Please stop using AWB (or whatever you're using) until you get help with the settings. — Rhododendrites talk \\ 14:57, 21 August 2016 (UTC)

In my opinion, it would only present a conflict of interest if you worked for it - simply being a student wouldn't enough to constitute one.--Launchballer 15:45, 23 August 2016 (UTC)
The possibility for a COI is there, because you have a financial relationship with the school. --AntiCompositeNumber (Leave a message) 15:54, 23 August 2016 (UTC)
A conflict of interest is not necessarily only tied to money; it can exist if you have any form of relationship with the topic. COI typically manifests itself in school articles by students either vandalizing their school pages (in this case I doubt that would apply) or students writing in overly promotional tones (presumably and understandably school pride). That being said, Wikipedia recognizes the valuable contribution that editors provide when they're knowledgeable about the topic. MorbidEntree, you are not prohibited from editing the article about your school and as long as you take into mind our policies regarding WP:COI, WP:NPOV, and WP:V then I think you will be fine. Mkdwtalk 16:10, 23 August 2016 (UTC)
@Mkdw: So basically, as long as I'm not being paid by the school, then I can edit pages relating to the school as long as I follow the policies as I normally would? --MorbidEntree - (Talk to me! (っ◕‿◕)っ♥)(please reply using {{ping}}) 16:13, 23 August 2016 (UTC)
Technically, under our current policies, you can still edit even if you're being paid to do so. It requires you to disclose this information as outlined at WP:PAID. While we have this policy, it is highly discouraged by both the community and the WikiMedia Foundation. To answer your specific question, yes you may edit the article if you follow our policies as normal. Regards, Mkdwtalk 16:18, 23 August 2016 (UTC)

Where can I edit a copy of an article outside of the article namespace?

So what I want to do is grab an old revision of an article that's been turned into a redirect and improve it somewhere else over time. Where is the appropriate place to do this and what is the procedure for moving it to the article namespace once it's ready to replace the redirect? --MorbidEntree - (Talk to me! (っ◕‿◕)っ♥)(please reply using {{ping}}) 05:18, 26 August 2016 (UTC)

Using your own userspace, for example, storing at User:MorbidEntree/Article. SwisterTwister talk 06:38, 26 August 2016 (UTC)
@SwisterTwister: But what about when it's ready to be moved to the mainspace? Do I just copy and paste it over? --MorbidEntree - (Talk to me! (っ◕‿◕)っ♥)(please reply using {{ping}}) 06:47, 26 August 2016 (UTC)
Well it can be moved using the "Move" option or, since I'm an Article Reviewer, I can also move it myself using the Article Acceptance tools. Cheers, SwisterTwister talk 06:48, 26 August 2016 (UTC)
