Hello, regarding the Reerow-Xassan article, the relationship with Sheekhaal is subject to frequent dispute, but neither side has ever provided a source for their assertion. I made the edit in question, and (as I specified in the edit summary) I removed an unattributed sentence, which is not vandalism. I do not understand your edit to Raaso -- or the reason that is was an "unrelated story". The Shekosh Somalis settled there in 2000 according to several sources -- a simple fact. Plus you changed the spelling of several names to non-standard forms (e.g. "Imi" is far more common of an English transliteration that "Imei") without explanation, or even a mention. Hi Maxman, thanks for the reply. According to the source I relied on for this edit, the Shekosh are "a Dir sub-clan specialised in Islamic teaching that used to be spread across Somalia and Ethiopia’s Somali Region", but who were forced to establish a homeland in order to be politically represented in the new Ethiopian Federal system. (This is from the UNDP paper I linked to in the article.) This paper states that by settling at Raaso in Mirab Imi, they came into conflict with the local Somali who had already made their home there. If this paper is incorrect in saying this, can you explain further, & perhaps point me to a printed source which explains their place in the Somali clan system? (I don't claim to be an expert; just a guy trying to find reliable sources to match Somali clans with the parts of the Region they belong to, & always willing to admit a mistake & learn.) P.S. You are right it is not Mogadishu. That has been said before and someone (?someone of Somali extraction who has never seen Somalia) insists it is. Your addition to Mog Talk should have been at the bottom of the page (but you say you are new to WP) where the facts are explained which the culturally vain denier refuses to believe. I gave up correcting it and let the nonsense reflect (perhaps unfairly) on the rest of the article. I think the picture is not "stolen" from another African city but is from Malaysia where pictures of similar terrain can be found online.--SilasW (talk) 15:33, 27 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please remember to mark your edits, such as your recent edits to Sheekhaal, as "minor" if (and only if) they genuinely are minor edits. Per Help:Minor edit, a minor edit is one that the editor believes requires no review and could never be the subject of a dispute. The rule of thumb is that only vandalism/test reversions or edits consisting solely of spelling corrections, formatting changes or rearrangement of text without modifying content should be flagged as "minor". Can you at least cite a source for your version of the article? The other version, like it or not, cites a source and is thus in keeping with Wikipedia's verifiability policy. I believe the idea was to show Sheekhaal's position in the Hawiye hierarchy. If there is no agreement regarding the content then I would suggest deleting the entire section. Again, please review the comments at Category talk:Somali clans and Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Somalia#Clan lineage (if you haven't). In any case, it is best if you use Talk:Sheekhaal to explain how you think the list may be improved. (And as for being the original creator of the article, you might also want to review WP:OWN.) Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer have them marked as minor by default.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you are familiar with the contents of WP:MINOR, and believe that it is still beneficial to the encyclopedia to have all your edits marked as such by default, then this discussion will give you the details you need to continue with this functionality indefinitely. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Hi. The Enrico Cerulli ref was from the colonial period, so it's not a good source for the current Sheekhaal population. It's also very doubtful that the Sheekhaal number over 1 million now, nevermind then. That's probably why the citation was (and is) tagged as unreliable in the first place. The Somali population as a whole in the colonial period (when Enrico Cerulli actually wrote the cited work; it was published in 1959 [1]) was about the same as what is claimed on the page for just the modern Sheekhaal population; c.f. [2]. In other words, it's almost certainly a figure that was not, in fact, culled from Cerulli's publication. The work was also mislabeled as Texts of the Consuetudinary Law of the Somali, when it's actually titled Texts of the consuetudinary law of the Marréhân Somali and thus focuses on the Marehan, not the Sheekhaal. Even if the figure had been taken from Cerulli's work (who died in 1988, by the way), it would still be grossly out of date for a population figure on the modern Sheekhaal. Either way, the figure needs a reliable source (see WP:PROVEIT); it can't stay tagged forever. Best regards, Middayexpress (talk) 08:26, 11 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not add unsourced content, as you did to Sheekhaal. This contravenes Wikipedia's policy on verifiability. If you continue to do so, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. The cited source says "1.5-2 Million". Either leave the figure alone, or cite a source for your figures. I suggest you also review Wikipedia:Vandalism to see what does and does not constitute vandalism. You've incorrectly accused others of vandalism here and here.
