Why is this guy not notable? Has been on US National and Japanese National TV as a recognized credit card fraud expert. Is hired to speak on credit card fraud around the US. Has been on US National TV and in US National Car Magazines as a recognized car builder. Has been recognized by the US Small Business adminstration as an exporter of the year in 2003. Has recieved the Ronald Reagan medal from the NRCC. Was named one of the top 40 West Virginian's under 40 by the State Journal and Marshall University. Been on the front page of the Wall Street Journal. How well known do you need to be? --141.157.157.105 19:18, 13 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mainly because I never heard of him. And then I read the article which sounds self-promotional. Usually that makes people doubt the how notable the events are. I thought the living next door to John Kruk didn't help. You click on that article and the trivia says he lived next do to Gary Howell. The contrast between the two people's notability was the kicker. Anyway if you get elected I will support your article. --MarsRover 03:01, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

El Modena, California

Didn't you read my rewrite? At least according to my sources, El Modena, California is an unincorporated enclave within the city of Orange. I know that Orange County is trying to get rid of all of those oddball areas, but there are still some of them around. BlankVerse 21:05, 11 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Is my latest rewrite an improvement? BlankVerse 07:07, 12 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
There doesn't seem to be any sort of govt. recognition of boundaries for El Molino that I can find (i.e., no Census, no Post Office, no city of Orange) or even any sort of homeowner's association. I did found an interesting 1952 AAA map online showing the old city boundaries, and El Modena seems to be the inhabited area east of the city of Orange [1]. At that time, the eastern boundary looks like it was what is now Rancho Santiago Blvd. You can see on the map where the Southern Pacific's El Modena Station was located. Location Maps

On the WikiProject Countries talk page, you had either explictly declared a general interest in the project, or had participated at a discussion that appears related to Location Maps for European countries.
New maps had been created by David Liuzzo, and are available for the countries of the European continent, and for countries of the European Union exist in two versions. From November 16, 2006 till January 31, 2007, a poll had tried to find a consensus for usage of 'old' or of which and where 'new' version maps. At its closing, 25 people had spoken in favor of either of the two presented usages of new versions but neither version had reached a consensus (12 and 13), and 18 had preferred old maps.
As this outcome cannot justify reverting of new maps that had become used for some countries, seconds before February 5, 2007 a survey started that will be closed at February 20, 2007 23:59:59. It should establish whether the new style maps may be applied as soon as some might become available for countries outside the European continent (or such to depend on future discussions), and also which new version should be applied for which countries.
Please note that since January 1, 2007 all new maps became updated by David Liuzzo (including a world locator, enlarged cut-out for small countries) and as of February 4, 2007 the restricted licence that had jeopardized their availability on Wikimedia Commons, became more free. The subsections on the talk page that had shown David Liuzzo's original maps, now show his most recent design.
Please read the discussion (also in other sections α, β, γ, δ, ε, ζ, η, θ) and in particular the arguments offered by the forementioned poll, while realizing some comments to have been made prior to updating the maps, and all prior to modifying the licences, before carefully reading the presentation of the currently open survey. You are invited to only then finally make up your mind and vote for only one option.
There mustnot be 'oppose' votes; if none of the options would be appreciated, you could vote for the option you might with some effort find least difficult to live with - rather like elections only allowing to vote for one of several candidates. Obviously, you are most welcome to leave a brief argumentation with your vote. Kind regards. — SomeHuman 7 Feb2007 20:24 (UTC)

Pat Tillman

I note your reversion of the Ralph Kauzlarich comments on the Pat Tillman article. I call on you to explain how exactly this information is not relevant to the article, esp. in light of the fact that it appears in the "Controversial criticisms" section. I would hope this is not a case of information supression. Aloha. Arjuna 05:00, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In its best light the information is simply an opinion that’s only notable in that insulting someone's religious beliefs is rare nowadays. Bring it up in the discussion page if you honestly believe it’s a major bit of info. I found including the full obnoxious quote and the blurb at the end about a conspiracy a bit too much. Can't you summarize it to a sentence or two and include all that in the Ralph Kauzlarich article? PS. make sure to include a trailing "</ref>" in references otherwise the rest of the article disappears. MarsRover 06:37, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Kabul map

Here, please download this map. I marked all the main units. Of course, you're not obliged to show them all in your map, but you can take only the main units, like Min. of Defense, Min. of Foreign Affairs and ARG.

As you can see, there is the Ministry of Defense in place of Min. of Justice. And there is a Main Road between the block (in which Min. of Foreign Affairs is situated) and between the block in which Prime Minister's Office is located. So If you can mark in your map a Road just next to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (like in the map, I uploaded), it will be great. Plus, you can remove Spinzar and Park Hotels, they have lost their popularity in recent years. And instead, you can mark "Shahr-e Naw" which is very important to be shown on the map. And check this map, edited by AIMS. It will help you mark the important areas of Kabul in your map. -Ariana310 09:57, 6 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I just noticed that in the map which I uploaded for you, I have marked the locations of US Embassy and Radio Afghanistan in a wrong block. Their location in your own previous map is correct.Ariana310 10:08, 6 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Reguarding Jonestown?

"This collection of paraniod fantasies should deleted. Pretty decient article until you get to these crackpot suggestions. MarsRover 07:32, 16 January 2007 (UTC)"

This doesn't sound crackpot to me, however I am interested to hear why you believe it should not be included in the article? It is encyclopedic, and the issue is valid, I don't believe there was any plot by the CIA against the citizens of Jonestown, however, it is likely that the CIA had some sort of interest in Jonestown. After all, within the scope of the CIA mission, they may have been percieved as a threat, and therefore worthy of supervision. Perhaps that can explain why documents reguarding the issue remain classified. I would llike to discuss this with you further. Sephiroth storm (talk) 06:36, 15 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe "crackpot" was a bit harsh. But, editors trying to prove something with their lack of knowledge should be reverted. (Its true because I cannot read the classified documents). I saw a special about Roswell and the government early on tried to explain the situation (its just balloons and testdummies) but that just feed the situation. Now the government just completely ignores it, which some people then use as proof. So, I believe editors have to add references to prove challenged claims and if its not possible then they shouldn't be able to include it. --MarsRover (talk) 21:00, 15 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Update of List of Wikipedias by sample of articles

Hello,

I'm Meldor (also Meldor, in meta). I would like to ask if you used the List of articles in List of Wikipedias by sample of articles/Source code to update the list; I'm trying to see if there are incorrect interwikis to catalan language, because we can't find which articles we are missing.

I think it would be a good idea to keep the List of articles used in a more visible place, because the original list in meta seems to be changing constantly.

Thanks for the update! For further updates, I can help you if you wish (I compiled your code but it just made the first group of articles). --161.116.143.97 (talk) 09:54, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Image:OrangeCountyCA Map.gif

A tag has been placed on Image:OrangeCountyCA Map.gif requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I8 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is available as a bit-for-bit identical copy on the Wikimedia Commons under the same name, or all references to the image on Wikipedia have been updated to point to the title used at Commons.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:Image:OrangeCountyCA Map.gif|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Sdrtirs (talk) 23:56, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

We are an encyclopedia, not Oprah's book club. the entire section is, I believe, rather silly if they are not meant to be used as references for article content. File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Ie6 coord bug.png. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. Code for "1000 pages"

Hello! I am from the Latin wikipedia, and I am trying to modify the code slightly for our own purposes. I know absolutely nothing about coding, so I'm just reading the code and trying to figure out what all the syntax means. There are two things I couldn't figure out:

  1. How to make the script only acquire the scores for Latin (I don't want the script to take a few hours to acquire data we don't need)
  2. How to make the output .txt file list the Latin article names instead of the English names.

If you could explain those two things, I would be eternally grateful! Everything else I figured out. I tried just deleting all the languages besides Latin in the beginning of the script, but then it didn't properly calculate the interwikis. Thanks! Secundus Zephyrus (talk) 20:04, 25 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Second question requires using code like this:
latin_name = GetArticleInterwikiName(english_word, 'la')
to change stuff like this...
section += '#[[en:'+lang_info[lang][artKey]['name']+']] '+lang_info[lang][artKey]['error'] + '\n'
..to something like this
section += '#[[la:'+GetArticleInterwikiName(lang_info[lang][artKey]['name'],'la')+']] '+lang_info[lang][artKey]['error'] + '\n'

You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Interwiki link order

Hello, when you add interwiki links, it's best to place them in alphabetical order like so, taking into account that "Shona" comes before "Simple English" in the alphabet. Thanks! Graham87 15:33, 31 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You're right, my mistake. It therefore would go between Catalan and Czech. Graham87 00:25, 1 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
After Catalan and Czech, rather. Graham87 00:28, 1 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

List of Wikipedias by sample of articles

Good evening (or afternoon where you are...), MarsRover!

I just wanted to ask you not to implement the proposed changes to the List of Wikipedias by sample of articles until they have been accepted either by consensus or by a vote (none of which is the case right now). To implement the disputed changes before they have been consensuated would be tantamount to imposing the opinion of one group of users on another group of users. Thanks and have a nice day.--Leptictidium (mt) 22:02, 10 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:SantaBarbaraZoo logo.jpg)

Thanks for uploading File:SantaBarbaraZoo logo.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:02, 26 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Questions from Basemetal00

Hello MarsRover, like I wrote in response to the proposal you posted on Idea Lab in the discussion about computing the average size of articles by Wikipedia I'd like to ask you a few questions. In order not to clutter the Idea Lab page I suggest I do it here. Is that ok? Then I can report back to Idea Lab. Signed: Basemetal00 (write to me here) 17:59, 17 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Size of articles

Hi MarsRover, I would like to show the size of 1000 articles for update, I can update these manually by using popup. I wonder if there is any tools or templates show the article's size in the list automatically? e.g. vi:Wikipedia:Danh sách bài cơ bản nên có/Danh sách#Diễn viên, vũ công và người mẫu. Thanks.--Cheers! (talk) 02:26, 24 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, look at what ca.wp has done (eg. ca:Plantilla:Article-1000b) and lez.wp (eg. lez:Шаблон:Articles-1000). --MarsRover (talk) 03:17, 24 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
