This message contains important information about an administrative situation on Wikipedia. It does not imply any misconduct regarding your own contributions to date.

Please carefully read this information:

The Arbitration Committee has authorised discretionary sanctions to be used for pages regarding India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, a topic which you have edited. The Committee's decision is here.

Discretionary sanctions is a system of conduct regulation designed to minimize disruption to controversial topics. This means uninvolved administrators can impose sanctions for edits relating to the topic that do not adhere to the purpose of Wikipedia, our standards of behavior, or relevant policies. Administrators may impose sanctions such as editing restrictions, bans, or blocks. This message is to notify you that sanctions are authorised for the topic you are editing. Before continuing to edit this topic, please familiarise yourself with the discretionary sanctions system. Don't hesitate to contact me or another editor if you have any questions.

Ronz (talk) 23:42, 28 February 2017 (UTC)

Please see this note of Ronz and this caution my me on this matter, because your edits have adversely affected multiple articles such as Raksha Bandhan and Vasant Panchami. Thank you for your cooperation, Ms Sarah Welch (talk) 10:32, 1 March 2017 (UTC)

Caution with OR and CFORK articles

@Malikhpur: You have been cutting and pasting large parts of articles such as Holi, Raksha Bandhan etc into Punjab articles such as this and this. You added unreliable blogs/websites and such sources, which are problematic by themselves, but many times even they do not verify what you claim they verify. Please see WP:OR and WP:CFORK guidelines. If you find reliable sources, please consider summarizing the source into the relevant section of the main article. WP:CFORK and WP:SUMMARY explain when an article split is appropriate. When you do copy-paste within wikipedia, please mention in your edit summary which article you are copy pasting from. Thank you, Ms Sarah Welch (talk) 01:49, 5 March 2017 (UTC)

Festival dates

@Malikhpur: The website drikpanchang.com or other commercial websites are not reliable for festival dates. If you change festival dates in any wiki article, please search and cite official calendars released by state/provincial or central/federal governments of South Asian countries, which would be reliable. For example, Indian holiday dates would be reliably sourced from ".gov.in", Nepalese from ".gov.np" etc for the specific year of interest. Ms Sarah Welch (talk) 04:07, 29 March 2017 (UTC)

Thanks. I realised the issue and am working on it. Malikhpur(talk) 09:36, 29 March 2017 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for April 21

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Punjabi festivals, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Eid. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Copyright problem on Sports in Punjab, India

Material you included in the above article appears to have been copied from the copyright web page http://www.gamelog.cl/logs/LogPage.php?Log_Id=3553. Copying text directly from a source is a copyright violation. Unfortunately, for copyright reasons, the content had to be removed.

Also, it appears that you copied or moved text from Kila Raipur Sports Festival to that same article. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. I have added the legally required attribution. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Soul cake, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages West Midlands and Knowle (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on English festivals requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://www.marypages.com/shrove-tuesday.html. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Dulla bhatti

The article on Dulla bhatti clearly mentions him as a Gurjar. Please change that as well if you think otherwise. For how long you people keep ascribing the Gurjar history to Rajpoots? The Rajput article itself says that this term wasn’t used for any caste until 17th century. The Real Rana (talk) 15:55, 14 January 2020 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Lyallpur Young Historians Club

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Lyallpur Young Historians Club requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a club, society, or group that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

Alert for Indian pages

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date. You have shown interest in India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic. For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Punjabi folk religion

Instead of edit warring to restore the article by citing absence of discussion in violation of WP:STONEWALLING you are supposed to prove how the subject meets WP:GNG. You must show multiple scholarly sources providing significant coverage to this subject of "Punjabi folk religion". Edit warring without fulfilling this requirement will be reported. LearnIndology (talk) 13:13, 23 June 2021 (UTC)

@LearnIndology: Thank you for your message. I had added scholarly sources. I am sure there has to be a discussion on the Talk Page before an article is redirected. The article has been in existence since 2011 with a number of page views. Please restore the article so that it can be improved. Punjabi folk religion exists as a concept. (Malikhpur) 15:11, 23 June 2021 (UTC)

Article's creation date is no excuse. You are supposed to establish WP:GNG by showing significant coverage in scholarly sources. How many followers are there belonging to this made up 'religion'? LearnIndology (talk) 14:40, 23 June 2021 (UTC)

@LearnIndology: It is a concept in anthropology akin to the Dravidian folk religion article on Wikipedia. There are scholars who have discussed this such as Virinder Kalra, Farina Mir, Ian Talbot etc. In Punjabi, writers such as Vanjara Bedi and Dr Darya. However, as you have already redirected the article again, I will not be commenting further. (Malikhpur) 15:42, 23 June 2021 (UTC)

There can be no false equivalence between this yet unconfirmed subject and Dravidian folk religion which no longer exist. LearnIndology (talk) 14:50, 23 June 2021 (UTC)
Okay.Malikhpur) 16.13, 23 June 2021 (UTC)
I note what you say but I always thought that when an article is in existence, there has to be discussion on the talk page to make major changes. You mention scholars. I had added another source. The introduction was taken from Bhatti and Michon who are scholars in this field What is the procedure for reinstatement? I

(Malikhpur) 18:07, 23 June 2021 (UTC)

It is unclear if they provide significant coverage to this subject or even make a mention of it except the Greenwood source which does not provide it significant coverage. Ancestor worship isn't a unique phenomenon and many Sikhs engage in such worship too. LearnIndology (talk) 05:24, 24 June 2021 (UTC)
Would you be willing to move the page to Folk practices of Punjab which would then cover such practices including ancestor worship? That way, there will not be a specific title Punjabi folk religion and would be in line with the sister page on Punjabi Wikipedia. Further, Bhatti and Michon also refer to Folk Practices of Punjab. When I created the article in 2010, the criteria was different for creating articles and I accept there are more stringent rules now. However, I believe the article is relevant albeit in a renamed form. Once moved, we could put a tag requiring others to help improve it. This would also enable editors to research further. Seminal work in this field has been done by Bhatti (2000) Link https://books.google.co.uk/books?newbks=1&newbks_redir=0&redir_esc=y&id=FpjXAAAAMAAJ&dq=folk+beliefs+punjab&focus=searchwithinvolume&q=folk+religion

(Malikhpur) 24 June 2021 (UTC)

I have restored and renamed the article. You can further clean it up. LearnIndology (talk) 12:16, 24 June 2021 (UTC)
Thank you. (Malikhpur) 13:29, 24 June 2021 (UTC)

Article title vote

Hi Malikhpur, can you cast a quick vote in the ongoing discussion at Talk:Religion in the Punjab? Per our exchange there a few months ago and your assent, I have proposed a move back to the original title of the page, Folk religion in Punjab, after significantly expanding it a few weeks ago in regards to folk beliefs. We currently have 2 in support (including myself), and 2 opposing (including the original page mover). Your vote as the page creator would help break the current gridlock.
