A strategic lawsuit against public participation (also known as a SLAPP suit or intimidation lawsuit)^[1] is one intended to censor, intimidate, and silence critics by burdening them with the cost of a legal defense until they abandon their criticism or opposition.^[2]

In the typical SLAPP, the plaintiff does not normally expect to win the lawsuit. The plaintiff's goals are accomplished if the defendant succumbs to fear, intimidation, mounting legal costs, or simple exhaustion and abandons the criticism. In some cases, repeated frivolous litigation against a defendant may raise the cost of directors and officers liability insurance for that party, interfering with an organization's ability to operate.^[3] A SLAPP may also intimidate others from participating in the debate. Reidgreg was approved to fill this role after an 18-month absence from the coordinator team, and Baffle gab1978 was chosen as an assistant coordinator following a one-year break. Dhtwiki, Miniapolis and Tenryuu continued on as long-standing assistant coordinators. January Drive: Of the 22 editors who signed up, 16 editors claimed 146 copy edits including 45 requests. (details) February Blitz: This one-week effort focused on requests and a theme of Africa and African diaspora history. Hello, I was happy to finally see the article of the Pittsburgh Fair Witness underground newspaper. I volunteered for it 1969-70 and thought I'd put in a few details I remembered – and in which I had participated. Those were great days. I was also a graduate student in art at Carnegie-Mellon at the time. Many vivid memories of those days....
