It was in June of 1999. While I was working as a sales rep for a rep group that had a showroom located in the Atlanta Gift Mart. The idea came to me while laying in the bed trying to go to sleep. At the Atlanta Gift Mart, known as Americas Mart. There are several tall buildings located downtown that house hundreds of rented showrooms that are designed just like we know as a store such as Target, Belk's etc... This is where buyers employed by retail stores such as Target and Belk's come to see and order merchandise to be sold to the consumer or retail customer. This is done twice yearly. There is the spring market that is in January and the fall market and is in July. The showrooms in Atlanta carry many lines that they sell from many manufacturers.

In my past experience before working for this showroom I had been a sales rep for several other companies where I had sold product to many types of retail stores such as Wal Mart, Freds Dollar Stores Convenience stores etc... This experience had gained me the knowledge of how the system of wholesale and retail worked. Also during this time I would pick up other companies to rep and it was truly a fun job to have especially being able to work independently. Out of all the many lines that I was selling there was one line that would always be the top on the list. In this line was a group of metal buckets that was my best selling items of anything I was selling. These buckets were popular with many shops that were commonly know as gift shops. Some of the buckets where blank with no impressions made into them and some had butterflies stamped into them and there were even some that had palm trees stamped on them. But no matter what was on them, they were hot sellers. Another line that I was carrying was a line of collegiate product for local colleges in my home state of Mississippi. The usual items such as caps, huggies, license plates and some flags.

As I said earlier. I was laying in bed one night after a long day of helping one of my best customers unload an entire container of these buckets at her home, When it occurred to me the idea of having these buckets made with a college logo stamped into them instead of the usual butterfly. Needless to say, I didn't get any sleep that night thinking about how I could get that done. The next several days were spent researching who I could get to stamp impressions/logo's into a metal bucket.

After many hours online searching I came to realize that there was no one in the United States that could do this process without it costing an arm and a leg. So then my direction turned to other countries. China was my first direction. That didn't last long because the Chinese require you to buy many 1000's per item and I can tell you I didn't have the funds for that kind of investment. After about 2 weeks of looking I decided that there was no way I could make this work.

Until I received an email from a factory rep from India. Yes! I finally found someone that just might make this happen. We first communicated by email with specs and photos through email. I thought I might be on to something. I sent him all the info and pictures and prayed for the best.

After about 6 weeks I had just given up and pretty much forgotten about it until I was driving in my driveway and saw this giant crate sitting in my driveway next to the house wondering what it was. Then it hit me! It was a shipment from India. I couldn't wait to get into that crate. I felt like a child on Christmas morning. And yes after getting into it. There they were! Exactly what I had wanted! Oval buckets to my specifications with the college logo stamped into the sides. Chill's went down my spine. There they were in my possession were the first TAILGATER TUBS. The very first ones in existence. I still have the very first ones today! I sent photos of them to the 3 major universities in my state and they all gave me licenses and it has grown to most every major university in the country.

So when you see them at your COLLEGE STORE you will now know the history of the TAILGATER TUB and you can also buy them from there CREATOR Checkout our complete line of tailgating merchandise and soon to be released another great new idea for TAILGATING from the CREATOR of the TAILGATER TUB.
