Don't be funny, calling something "militaristic propaganda" isn't any disruption. Militaristic is things about army, wars, etc. and propaganda is an active propagation of something. So if you constantly add pictures about various war "heroes". That is a militaristic propaganda. Hugo.arg (talk) 18:02, 12 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
To some one of the finest empire style building in Lithuania is " corrupt and powerless governament". In any case will ask community to decide this. M.K. (talk) 18:11, 12 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well, now I checked out various portals of European, American countries and found only one Portal:Hungary which contains political/militaristic propaganda as you do in Lithuanian portal. Other countries shows their cities, churches, nature, stadiums and other NEUTRAL stuff. But you make Lithuanian portal as it would be USSR or USA portal full of militarism and poser patriotism. Recent Translation

Hugo, please, prašau taves, neversk straipnių naudojant google translate, ar ką tu ten naudoji - baisu tiesiog kai pamačiau, jau geriau visai neversti negu išversti su tokiom klaidom, kurios sukels klausimą kitiem, "ar jie visai nemoka paprastų gramatikos taisyklių anglų kalba?" Pvz - at 1909, pan. Beje, dvaras was translated as country-estate - I hope you are fine with that, and my other corrections. Peace. -Psilocin.

I'm sorry, my English grammar isn't very good but I put copyedit template so everyone could see that it isn't the final version of the article and it needs grammar review. Hugo.arg (talk) 09:36, 27 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Villages

Hi, next time you decide to create some articles, please:

  1. Use infobox & reference codes as in (for example) Bokštai
  2. Create redirects from titles without diacritics (for example, from Bokstai to Bokštai)
  3. Tag talk pages with {{WikiProject Lithuania}} (class=stub, importance=low)

That way I would not have to spend hours cleaning up. Thanks! Renata (talk) 01:16, 3 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for contacting me. I got this message [1] pointing to an abundance of Commons-compatible photos on Flickr. The Hebrew wikipedia only has one article - there is no reason the English article shouldn't have an interwiki to that article or to the other wikipedias which have only one article about the subject. (we can leave the Russian, Lithuanian, Polish ones alone until they solve this problem if they choose to). TheCuriousGnome (talk) 19:49, 30 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, apparently your bot unlinked Cuman people article from other languages, specifically de:Kyptschaken and uk:Половці. Thank you! USchick (talk) 19:05, 12 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please change your bot not to alter crosswikilinks when multiple choices exist. Humans are better at making this kind of decision than machine translation. Particularly gunpowerder (UK) or black powder (US) is called Schwarzpulver not Schießpulver in German, which is more generic, meaning something like propellant. Have mörser, will travel (talk) 11:32, 22 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That was user supervised bot edit. At first change 'wrong' links at de.wiki before undoing and complaining. If de:Schießpulver links to articles about en:Gunpowder then article "Gunpowder" should link to "Schießpulver". But if you add some links to one article, some to other you jut make confusion. Hugo.arg (talk) 12:02, 22 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The de wiki link is not wrong. In modern German Schießpulver means firearm propellant [3] for which there is no exact English Wikipedia article match. Before the advent of smokeless powders and nitrocellulose explosives, Schwarzpulver was sometimes subdivided in Sprengpulver (blasting powder) and Schießpulver (shooting powder, in direct translation) based on intended usage with small variations in formulation. [4] Since them, Schießpulver became generic to include other kinds of "shooting powder" and Sprengpulver became generic for all kinds of explosives. You should not code your bot or make your edits expecting natural languages to have 1:1 match for all terms. Also, in your post above the English is rather poor, so perhaps you should not be the one engaging in such tasks, bot-assisted or not. Have mörser, will travel (talk) 12:38, 22 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I'm not a specialist of things about gunpowder but the "iron rule" of interwiki is that if one page links to another it should be backlink. If Schießpulver isn't an article about "gunpowder/Порох/Pólvora" then it should be removed at all instead of adding another incorrect link to "Schwarzpulver" which has a link to articles about black powder. Of course, we can join article de:Schwarzpulver to articles about gunpowder easly but I don't know if other users wouldn't complain if I'll change current "Schwarzpulver" interwiki links to these about "gunpowder" and make "Schießpulver" interwikiless. Hugo.arg (talk) 13:02, 22 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have created the redirect gun propellant to propellant and changed the de Schießpulver wikiling to point to it. If you volunteer to write the en.wiki article, be my guest, but I bet it will just be merged back to propellant. Have mörser, will travel (talk) 13:10, 22 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I see you've got reverted maybe better at first discuss with German users about terminology... Hugo.arg (talk) 13:28, 22 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I guess they are not concerned that both de:Schwarzpulver and de:Schießpulver wikilink to en gunpowder. I guess they've never heard of your "iron rule" either. I'm not going to be your advocate in this matter because I think it's a bad rule to try enforce uniformly. Good luck convincing them yourself. Have mörser, will travel (talk) 14:06, 22 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I think removing de:Sajano-Schuschensker Stausee from Sayano-Shushenskaya Dam was incorrect. It's the same topic, although "dam" isn't the translation of "Stausee". It should be inserted again. --ProfessorXY (talk) 19:44, 26 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Well, but it must link to one group of aricles, either about dam, either about reservoir. As it's name and current interwiki links says what the article is more about reservoir than about dam. To have both you should split the article or to have about dam you should at least change article name and all iw links. Hugo.arg (talk) 19:52, 26 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Idioma-bot added to uk:Черевики many interwikies from en:Shoe. The bot also added to en:Shoe the interwiki to uk:Черевики. However, uk:Черевики already had the interwiki to en:Dress boot, similarly en:Dress boot already had the interwiki to uk:Черевики. Of course, I undid the bot's edits, but why Idioma-bot had done them? Ufim (talk) 09:42, 27 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Snow there is impossible and it hasn t fallen not even during the little ace age. Hi!

Wikidata has been deployed to the English Wikipedia. Going forward, Wikidata will manage interwiki links. Further information: m:Wikidata/Deployment Questions and <https://blog.wikimedia.de/?p=13892>.

Important note: Bots that continue to add, remove, or update interwiki links on the English Wikipedia may be blocked from editing after Saturday, February 16, 2013.

If you are running pywikipedia's interwiki.py, please update to pyrev:11073 which will automatically prevent your bot from updating links on this wiki.

If you have any questions, please ask at the bot owners' noticeboard. Thank you for your past work maintaining interwiki links. It has been very appreciated and we're looking forward to an even brighter future with Wikidata. Legoktm (talk) 09:42, 14 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Lithuanian help needed

Hello Hugo.arg, I'm contacting you because we need some Lithuanian translators to help with the deployment of the new VisualEditor on lt.wikipedia. There are help pages, user guides, and description pages that need translating, as well as the interface itself. The translating work is going on over on MediaWiki: Translation Central. I also need help with a personal message for the Lithuanian Wikipedians. If you are able to help in any way, either reply here, or head over to TranslationCentral. Thanks for your time, PEarley (WMF) (talk) 22:05, 5 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, lt.wiki is going to boycot Visual Editor. Hugo.arg (talk) 08:09, 6 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Are there any specific concerns that Lithuanian editors have about the VisualEditor? I have read this discussion. PEarley (WMF) (talk) 16:11, 6 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Well, as it was stated in that discussion, this new feature seems to contain various bugs and is not particularly useful. Also, the other disappointment is that Wikimedia implements various new features without any considerations with local wikipedias (wikidata, vector interface, constant mediawiki translation changes and so one). I understand that Wikimedia tries to attract new users but I think these guys overlook something, only very little part of computer users may be interested in continuous contributing to Wikipedia and the only some of them could master the style of encyclopedia. To learn how to edit page is completely easy comparing to the mastering the specific style. I could write more on this but maybe it would be off-topic. Like, ok these translations now. I'm associated with some small wikis, some years ago I asked native speaker to translate the most visible interface messages in Guarani wikipedia. But what we get now? Because of all these questionable importance updates, bureaucratically trying to be politically correct everywhere it is possible now big part of these translations are obsolete. Happy New Year and I trust you may be able to help advise about Jonathan Hill, Baron Hill of Oareford for Lithuanian Wiki? As one of the EU Commissioners (for 2014-2019) from time to time information regarding Lord Hill should prove of much interest to Lithuanian readers, as with info about Catherine Ashton.

Is the following template (which can be resent in better format), prepared with assistance from my friend Jekaterina, of assistance to Lithuanian Wiki? Looking forward to hearing from you.

Rutogas

Hi Hugo, Sorry to write you here and in English about your recent revert on the Lithuanian Wikipedia on the article about Rutogas in Tibet.

In short, Rutok (Rutogas) can refer to:

  1. Rutok County - 3rd level administrative division in China
  2. Rutok township (or town) - 4th level administrative division in China
  3. Old Rutok - the historic "capital" of Rutog region, and currently a natural village called Rutok/Rudok/Rutog (Ritucum in Chinese)
  4. New Rutok - officially known as Jieguosang (杰果桑社区 in Chinese) the new administrative seat built about 10km southeast of Old Rutok. This is basically a row of shops and governement buildings on the roadside.

The article on the Lithuan Wikipedia (from what I could understand with Google translate) refers to the settlement of Old Rutog, which lies on and around a hill next to Pangong Tso (lake). This is the settlement with a an old fortress and monastery as described in the article. The picture in the Lithuanian article represents Jieguosang (new Rutok), this is why I removed it.

So I would suggest to either:

  1. Keep the content of the article Rutogas and remove the picture. In such case, the coordinates and interwiki should be as per the changes I made - Rudok is the English equivalent
  2. Modify the content of the article and convert it as an article on the township/town (# 2 above) - Rutog Town is the English equivalent
  3. Split content and make two articles.

I hope I am more or less clear. Wishing you all the best, --Dominique Roux (talk) 16:23, 30 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Bonjour, Dominique. Thank You for clarification. I changed text and now it reflects information about new Rutok town with a mention of old one nearby. Hugo.arg (talk) 17:08, 30 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Your deletion of "Lithuanian name Kėdainiai"

Please stop edit warrying and explain you deletion of Kėdainiai as a Lithuanian nname. It was neither Jewish, nor Polish as you state in your edits. -- Ke an (talk) 09:45, 18 December 2020 (UTC) notice @Pofka:[reply]

There was no note it is Jewish. It is just Jewish version of this toponym. Hugo.arg (talk) 09:54, 18 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
You write - "other versions". It is not. It is a transcription. Explain you reasons for removing statement that Kędainiai is a Lithuanian name. -- Ke an (talk) 09:57, 18 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Lietuviškai aiškinu: niekur neteigiau, kad pavadinimas nelietuviškas, ten pateikti istoriniai šito vietovardžio užrašymo būdai (iki 1918 m. jokių lietuviškų oficialių užrašymų ir nebuvo, o dabartinės formos nusistovėjo išvis, gal ~1950-1960 m.), nu ko jie kliudo? Jie nėra "transkribcija", nes yra perkeisti pagal tos kalbos tarimo būdą. Be to, kam ten tuos gimusius žydus išminėti? Aš nesu kažkoks aškenazių gerbėjas, bet nu jei jau tie žmonės žydų tarpe žymus, tai tebūnie. Hugo.arg (talk) 10:03, 18 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
