Four Award
Congratulations! You have been awarded the Four Award for your work from beginning to end on The Masked Singer (American TV series). — Bilorv (talk) 11:03, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Phenomenal work, even if the award is a bit belated! For such a highly viewed, internationally important topic I'm surprised one author managed to get all four of the Four Award stages. I see a Million Award has been given for this one too. Congratulations! — Bilorv (talk) 11:03, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Citation question

Hello again! Apologies in advance for this super random message, but I was wondering if you could help me with a quick citation question. I am debating on creating an article for Sharissa's debut album, and one of my sources would be an article in this issue of Vibe. It is no longer available through Google Books, but the link I have posted goes to a free version on the Internet Archive. However, I am having trouble finding the issue/volume numbers and the ISSN. I am probably just being really silly and over-looking them, but do you know how to find this information on the actual copy of the magazine? I think I am just so spoiled by how Google Books just gives out that information without having to actually look for it. Thank you in advance and have a great rest of your week! Aoba47 (talk) 16:31, 26 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Vibe was moved from Google Books to ProQuest, although some issues remain on Internet Archive. Unfortunately Vibe is not included in The Wikipedia Library access to ProQuest, although I have access to it through my university. ProQuest is showing volume 10, issue 3 for the March 2002 edition, and the ISSN for Vibe is 1070-4701. Heartfox (talk) 18:46, 26 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Clown (Mariah Carey song) lauds

Hello again. Awesome job with the above article. I am always drawn to articles on album tracks, and I found it interesting to read more about the Eminem connection, which I had only really seen in passing. You did wonderful work with your research and I just wanted to let you know that it was appreciated. Aoba47 (talk) 15:27, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you!! There is really a shocking lack of scholarly research about Mariah Carey, and so it is great that a large part of the article is covered by a high-quality journal article. Thankfully the University of Texas Press is releasing a scholarly book on her in September, at which point I expect many Carey articles to be revamped, particularly the main biography. Heartfox (talk) 16:31, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the link. That looks like a fascinating read, and I will check it out in the future myself. It is always nice and surprising to find high-quality scholarly coverage on an individual song. I am also surprised that Mariah Carey has not received more scholarly attention as I would imagine that the generation really influenced by her would have already reached a point in academia to do this kind of work. I also find it fascinating that the University of Texas Press did a similar book for Solange and have a series of Why X Matters books. I'd be interested to see what is in the future for that series. FAC

Congrats on the continued great work on Carey articles! I've addressed your follow-up comments on my FAC. Since your initial opposition to my nomination was strongly worded, I think it would be good if it was explicitly indicated in the form of a !vote that you are satisfied with the changes, so as to not turn away prospective reviewers..--NØ 10:46, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Consider this a warning to bring the discussion about my personal comments, at any peer review page or on someone else's talk page, to my talk page. If there is anything further posted to compromise my reputation at the FAC review page, FAC talk page, or in front of coords we both have to work with, I will be reluctantly forced to take action. It is clear there was a misunderstanding and it is best not to escalate. Any more personal comments at my FAC that do not actually involve the article will be perceived to be in bad faith, you are more than experienced enough to know what those pages are for. Only re-posting so you definitely see this.--NØ 18:47, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Single-related question

Hello again! Apologies as always for leaving a very random message. I am rewriting the "Hot Sugar" article, and I am struggling with finding a source for its release date. The article currently uses October 17, 2013 for that date as that is when the music video premiered, but I do not think a music video premiere is the same as an official single release.

I have found sources, including the artist herself, referring to the song as a single, but the Discogs entry for it calls it a promotional single, which muddies the waters. I know that Discogs is not a reliable source, but I thought it was worth noting. Apologies in advance as I know that this is asking for a lot, but I was wondering if I could have any help in potentially finding the release date for this single? I am reaching out to you because you do a much better job at tracking down these kinds of dates than I do. I am just hitting a brick wall with this one. Aoba47 (talk) 23:30, 7 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'll get to this in a few days. Heartfox (talk) 01:49, 8 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. Take as much time as you need with as there is absolutely no rush with it. I hope you are doing well. Aoba47 (talk) 02:13, 8 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies for the double response. I was just curious if you were able to look into this matter? I completely understand if you are too busy, but I just wanted to check in and ask. I believe that I have exhausted all the sources about this song and I could not find an exact single release date, but you may have better luck than I do. That and it would just be nice to hear your perspective on how to handle this kind of situation. The single release behind this song seems messy. Have a great start to your week! Aoba47 (talk) 03:39, 19 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Because there is no source that calls it a single, I would refer to it as a song with a music video. (where is the cover art from? I checked archived itunes and there is no single release/cover art there :/. also braxton's website never referred to it as a single) Heartfox (talk) 16:46, 19 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the response. Apologies again for the double replay. I agree with your conclusion. I have seen some coverage, as well as Braxton herself (here), refer to "Hot Sugar" as a single, but none of these sources really discuss anything further than the music video or provide evidence for this designation. I believe the cover art was taken directly from a Discogs entry. The image was added on that database nine years ago (so in 2014) while the Wikipedia article for the song was made in 2015 and the image was uploaded in 2017. It was likely the uploader just ripped it from Discogs without checking to see if it was official.
I also tried to look through archived versions of Apple Music without any success. I should have known at that time something was wrong. It seems like "All the Way Home" has similar issues to this. I have heavily revised the "Hot Sugar" article to edit out the single wording and I have removed the cover art. Thank you again for taking the time to do this. I had debated on bringing this article through the FAC process, but this may prevent that. Either way, I am glad I improved the article and removed misinformation, and at the end of the day, that is what really matters. Aoba47 (talk) 19:23, 19 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you today for the article "about a lesser-known Jermaine Dupri and Mariah Carey collaboration from 1998, which is actually a cover of an even lesser-known 1986 single by Rainy Davis. Sony allegedly withdrew the US commercial single at the last minute so as to not cannibalize sales of "When You Believe", Carey's collaboration with Whitney Houston. Based on the song's critical reception, people believed this was the most sexualized Carey had ever come across. I'm not really a fan of the song but it was interesting to research and write about. The timeline of how the song came to be is a bit iffy due to various sources stretching decades, but I believe it is worded accurately." - Why no infobox? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:03, 15 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Agree with UNDUE

Hello. I just noticed your removal of Benmite's addition of Azealia Banks's comment on "Attention" here. Honestly the only reason news articles continue to cover her comments is because they know she has controversial hot takes and they get clicks. In the grand scheme of things an ever-decreasing number of people still care about what she has to say, and I entirely agree that one divisive individual's comments on the song are UNDUE weight and don't belong on Wikipedia. Like, "Doja Cat sounds like she grew up in a house"? Honestly. I'm surprised Benmite even added it. Ss112 11:21, 23 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

"I don't know her" lauds

Hey there. I had originally posted this on my FAC, but I was unsure if it really fit there so I have moved it here instead. Awesome with the "I don't know her" article. It really is such a big pop culture moment that it makes sense for it to have its own article. Unfortunately, I will not have the time to do a GAN review for it. I am currently committed to reviewing the FAC for "La Isla Bonita", and to be honest, I am really out of practice when it comes to doing a GAN review.

I know the DYK mentioned including more of Lopez's side, and I was curious if it was worthwhile to the time Lopez called Carey "forgetful" for not remembering her (here is a source)? Carey even somewhat responded to it by calling herself "forgetful" (another source).

Apologies for not being as much help with that, but best of luck with both the GAN and DYK. Just out of curiosity, would you want to pursue a FAC for this article? I am not sure if there is a FA for a quote so this would be entering into new territory, which could be exciting. Aoba47 (talk) 22:04, 21 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Aoba47, I listened to "Hot Sugar" for like a week when you nominated it. With "The One" I find it hard to distinguish the new lyrics from the sample, so "All the Way Home" is currently on repeat :)
That is awesome! It is always cool when someone gets into a song after looking at an article I've worked on. I've definitely gone back to some Mariah Carey stuff because of your nominations. Was listening to Charmbracelet after your nomination for "Clown". "Hot Sugar" is a fun song, and I wish it got a fully-realized single release. The samples on "The One" are fun, and I agree that they did a really good job with making it more seamless and organic. One of these days, I'll get around to working on the "All the Way Home" article. The production on that song is absolutely incredible imo. I am not super into going to concerts and such, but I would love to see Tamar perform live one day. Aoba47 (talk) 16:25, 24 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Close

I agree with the gist of your close at WT:MOSTV, but there is no need to editorialize with things like "Further discussion would need to occur at WT:DATE before expanding these local preferences to exceptions with wider consensus listed at MOS:NUMNOTES." It is actually entirely routine for a consensus reached at a topically specific MoS page to result in a conforming note at a more general one, because WP:POLICYFORKs are extremely undesirable; we do not long tolerate any of our P&G pages conflicting with each other. Treating any site-wide guideline, including MOS:TV as if it is just a "local consensus" is wrongheaded. That policy exists primarily to address wikiprojects trying to make up their own "rules" in WP:PROJPAGE essays and then try to "enforce" them on articles they claim within their scope. An actual guideline like MOS:TV, with regulates many thousands of articles, is presumed to have community consensus or it would be renamed and retagged with an essay banner. Consequently, people who care about the guideline can and should watchlist it, and participate in discussions there. To put it another way, no one would dream of suggesting that changes approved by an RfC at WT:MOSNUM or WT:MOSCAPS was somehow just a "local consensus" and that adjusting the main WP:MOS page to account for the change, if necessary, required yet another RfC. All of MoS's guidelines are part of the same system.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  15:35, 11 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the comments. I understand that MOS:TV is part of the MOS, but at the same time I think some people were a little weary of reading "Integers from zero to nine are spelled out in words" at WP:MOS and then see virtually the opposite at MOS:TV. MOS:TV deals with things (ie television article structure) that obviously the main MOS page wouldn't, but I think display of numerals is too much overlap with the main MOS page to have it completely separate. As WP:MOS says, "If any contradiction arises, this page has precedence". So I think further discussion/incorporation at MOS:NUMNOTES would help prevent future conflict/contradictions. MOS:TV cannot tell people "no" when the main MOS page says "yes" without losing legitimacy. Heartfox (talk) 20:02, 11 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
MOS:NUMNOTES is not part of WP:Manual of Style (the page that has precedence) but of WP:Manual of Style/Dates and numbers (MOS:NUM) which is on equal footing with WP:Manual of Style/Television MOS:TV); MOS:NUM does not have precedence over MOS:TV or any other MoS sub-guideline, and MOS:NUMNOTES consists, basically, of a list of MOS:NUM general-principles exceptions/clarifications, which were arrived at mostly in other MoS discussions on other MoS pages, like the one at WT:MOSTV. Your close was faulty in multiple ways, and has produced a lot of chaos as a result. I'm trying my best to write something we can use that will comply with it anyway, but this may not be successful at all, and in the end we may have to either have WP:AN invalidate your close and do a new one, or just re-RfC the entire matter all over again. I appreciate that you meant well, but WP:Policy writing is hard and if one is not experienced in it, one should not be trying to close RfCs that have to do with writing policy/guideline material, or one is apt to make a hash of it and cause more harm than good. I've sat on this for days, and the situation really has not improved; that RfC and its outcome may just be entirely trainwrecked, all because you misunderstood the page as a wikiproject thing, which it is not, misunderstood the relationship between MoS's subsidiary pages, and even misunderstood where NUMNOTES is, mistaking it for part of the main MoS page.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  19:21, 14 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I apprciate your concern with confusion about turning the close into guidance and I apologize that my close was not more clear. However, this situation has much to do with the flawed nature of the RfC. I have stricken the confusion from the close, but it's not my problem that any editor can ignore the consensus simply by referring to guidance present at WP:Manual of Style that "Integers from zero to nine are spelled out in words" and that "Integers greater than nine expressible in one or two words may be expressed either in numerals or in words." Your GA nomination of I don't know her

The article I don't know her you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:I don't know her for comments about the article, and Talk:I don't know her/GA1 for the nomination. Well done! If the article has never appeared on the Main Page as a "Did you know" item, and has not appeared within the last year either as "Today's featured article", or as a bold link under "In the news" or in the "On this day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear at DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On this day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. TFA

Thank you today for The Masked Singer (American TV series), introduced (in 2021): "This article is about one of the most popular TV shows in the United States right now, The Masked Singer. It is a really interesting read and I think very helpful to anyone wanting to learn more about the show. The core of the article was written in April/May last year, with edits and additions since then. In its current state, I believe it is one of the best television articles on Wikipedia and worthy of FA status."!
