Hiya, I am confused about the ongoing debate about my bias I hope you can help me with. I, Adriaan, have always open about my sympathy for anarchism, which is very common where I am from, it is part of my cultural and ethnic heritage. We invented the bicycle plan now being used in Washington DC. There's two socialist parties in Dutch parliament, the liberal party is considered conservative. In Dutch "Libertarian" and "Anarchist" are the same thing. This would have an entirely different connotation in the US, because anarchism and socialism are not part of US cultural heritage (the DC bicycle plan excepted).

As with spelling errors, my ethnicity will always seep through when I write for Colombia Reports, but I have the idea that my cultural expressions are being politicized, which is very weird. Additionally, we are coming out of a war, so my job is to explain the nature of socialism of groups like the FARC, for example, not because I'm into Marxism, to the contrary, but because as part of the peace process my job is to explain the nature of thing, promoting political thought is not part of my job.

I was raised using the metric system. I have no idea how inches and feet work. It would be silly if someone called stupid for not knowing how much a feet or a yard is. Using the word "soccer" goes against what I was taught in school.

Calling my website leftist, or "left-of-center," of which I sincerely don't know what that implies, can get me killed. I have two death threats already. I spent eight years writing about atrocities committed by commies, now the news is about narcos talking right-wing yadda yadda. Pablo Escobar was a Liberal. If I have any agenda, it is trying to create understanding about a post-war situation to a foreign audience.

Feel free to write that I, personally, am an outspoken anarchist, but the bias you perceive in my work is not political, it's ethnic and cultural, which I believe ought to be respected and not put in some foreign political box where words have different meanings. Like I said in that one column, I care more about tits than politics, and you can't expect anyone to apologize for their culture. If you can please explain what "left-of-center bias" means, whether this implies the pursuit of some political agenda or implies my mom raised me a certain way, I would be really grateful.

If me being foreign leads to misunderstandings about my work, please take down the Colombia Reports page. I read that I created the page, which I cannot remember. I can do without the threats and the page is full of inaccuracies anyway.
