Welcome to the 2024 WikiCup!

Happy New Year and Happy New WikiCup! The 2024 competition has just begun and all article creators, expanders, improvers and reviewers are welcome to take part. Even if you are a novice editor you should be able to advance to at least the second round, improving your editing skills as you go. If you have already signed up, your submissions page can be found here. If you have not yet signed up, you can add your name here and the judges will set up your submissions page ready for you to take part. Any questions on the scoring, rules or anything else should be directed to one of the judges, or posted to the WikiCup talk page. Signups will close on 31 January, and the first round will end on 26 February; the 64 highest scorers at that time will move on to round 2. The judges for the WikiCup this year are: Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs · email), Epicgenius (talk · contribs · email), and Frostly (talk · contribs · email). Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Your GA nomination of Hypericum hircinum

The article Hypericum hircinum you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Hypericum hircinum for comments about the article, and Talk:Hypericum hircinum/GA1 for the nomination. Well done! If the article has never appeared on the Main Page as a "Did you know" item, and has not appeared within the last year either as "Today's featured article", or as a bold link under "In the news" or in the "On this day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear at DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On this day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. Information icon Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment, or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

Thank you. Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 03:01, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Liuxinyu970226: is there a reason you're giving an eight-year-old account a welcome message? I'm not quite sure I understand. Fritzmann (message me) 03:18, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
eight years ago? Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 05:02, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Liuxinyu970226: if this is some kind of grudge or issue that you have, I do not know what you are referring to. This is a copyedit on a de-PROD template that displayed incorrectly, what is your reason for messaging me? Fritzmann (message me) 17:06, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
So, this looks like a problem regarding {{Deprod}} template itself, right? But IMHO the auto-signature feature should already be provided by discussion tool, probably you were manually inserting that template on the day you posted so? Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 01:41, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Liuxinyu970226: sure, probably. Again, why are you messaging me like this? Is it just a heads up that I made an error on a courtesy talk page message two months ago? It feels highly condescending, perhaps I am misinterpreting your intentions. Fritzmann (message me) 02:33, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

AMPS Page

Hello, I’m reaching out regarding the Amplified Musculoskeletal Pain Syndrome wikipedia page. I work with Dr. Ring MD PhD, an orthopedic hand specialist and well published author based out of Dell Medical School in Austin, TX. Our group of undergraduate and medical students helps Dr. Ring edit musculoskeletal and orthopedic pages on wikipedia. We would enjoy the opportunity to participate in the dialogue and future of the AMPS page if possible. We value the comradery demonstrated on wikipedia would love to further discuss and promote high quality medical information on the platform. We look forward to your response! Unecomeditor1 (talk) 19:17, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Unecomeditor1: it's great to hear about your interest in the project! I'm happy to help in any way I can. Wikipedia has a steep learning curve, but absolutely anyone can edit any page. If you can give me more details about the kind of work you are trying to do, that would let me guide you more effectively. It looks like you already have a good grasp of the encylopedia, and the message you temporarily left on the talk page of AMPS is absolutely constructive and good. Maybe another editor won't reply (it's a pretty niche subject) but it does show you're willing to collaborate and puts good ideas out there. I'd also be willing to talk to Dr Ring directly if that's more efficient, to put him on the track of the education program that would allow him to give wiki-based assignments to his students via a wikimedia-supported medium. Just let me know! Fritzmann (message me) 19:44, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the response! Glad to hear you are willing to help, we wanted to reach out once we saw your post on the talk page. We appreciate the support and have edits ready for the page. Truthfully, Dr. Ring would like to see the page removed. If this is something you could help with, we could provide further reasoning.
We are conducting research assessing the quality of information and the responsiveness of wikipedia. Essentially, Dr Ring edits copies of pages and then we implement the changes on the site and follow them to see If they are reverted or changed. We have some edits ready for that page.
I’m not sure if he’d be interested in the education program, but I could ask. It seems like it’s meant for professors teaching coursework, which is not our model. Thank you for the information regardless! Unecomeditor1 (talk) 02:28, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Unecomeditor1: yeah for sure, go for it. Might I also recommend WikiProject Medicine, which is one of the most organized user groups here on the encyclopedia. I'm not an expert on medical matters, just a layperson who reviews articles as a part of the Good Article process, so they may be able to give more expert assistance. They also have a lot of guidance on the style that articles should be written in, which is really helpful. As for removal of the article, on a cursory glance the reasoning would have to be very strong. There are already at least ten reliable sources that discuss the illness by name, so a deletion would likely be challenged pretty vociferously. If you have more specifically about the article, I'd encourage you to discuss it on the talk page instead of here. I follow that page as well so I can chime in if need be. Fritzmann (message me) 03:30, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello again! Thanks for your previous suggestion regarding WikiProject Medicine. It's a fantastic group and has served to be helpful!
Additionally, we've been slowly contributing to the AMPS talk page and I'm wondering if its possible to remove the red outline? I was attempting to add more to a topic but there is no option to "reply." Still, it's no problem if you are unable to make this change, as I understand the page is under review. Thank you! Question from CeasefireNow (14:39, 16 January 2024)

I made an edit to Mona Lisa about the fact that Picasso was suspected of stealing it at some point (with reliable sources), but I can't seem to find it. I put it right under the section "The Mona Lisa Illusion", but it isn't showing up. --freepalestine (talk) 14:39, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@CeasefireNow: that information seems to have already been covered in the "Refuge, theft, and vandalism" section. If you go to your user contributions or the page history, you can see that your edit was reverted (removed) by someone else for that reason. In the future, make sure to read the article just to double check that you aren't duplicating content that is already included. Please let me know if you have further questions on any topic! Hello ZWUZWUZWU, it looks like you are on the right track! Editing constructively is super helpful, but has a steep learning curve. Hi! I am credited in an existing Wiki page and now and I want to claim it and actually be able to fill out the page --Imankarram (talk) 21:24, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Imankarram, people on Wikipedia do not own content or pages. I recommend that you leave a message on its talk page with suggestions, as editing an article about oneself is generally discouraged because of a non-neutral point of view. If you have any more questions feel free to ask, Fritzmann (message me) 03:34, 23 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Penikese (22:18, 22 January 2024)

I've found an error with regards to a specific theater of warfare. I would like to add other information missing (having been physically there, I can attest) --Penikese (talk) 22:18, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Penikese, thanks for asking! Generally speaking, the kind of original research you are referring to is not allowed on Wikipedia. We need verifiable sources, like books or articles or reliable websites that are secondary sources. If you are passionate about the topic, it would be welcome if you found a source that proves the error you found, included it in the article, and fixed the mistake. Let me know if you have further questions, Fritzmann (message me) 03:39, 23 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the response.

Speedy deletion nomination of Noveloa longiflora

A tag has been placed on Noveloa longiflora requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section R3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a recently created redirect from an implausible typo or misnomer, or other unlikely search term.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Hello, I would like to create an aesthetic user page. Being my mentor please assist me. Love. --Dr. Trafalgar D Water Law (talk) 16:11, 26 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Dr. Trafalgar D Water Law: see Wikipedia:User pages for in-depth guidance on user pages. I recommend focusing on editing, and allowing your user page to evolve over time. It doesn't need to be aesthetic; many extremely veteran editors have spartan user pages. @Dr. Trafalgar D Water Law: I've cleaned up the article some and added a few references. It doesn't seem like there are any images that are freely licensed that can be used. I recommend digging deeper in Hindi language sources for more information, as there is not enough English-language coverage to meet notability requirements. Beck–Fahrner syndrome

Hi Fritzmann2002! You reviewed Beck–Fahrner syndrome in August 2023. Unfortunately, I lost access to my original account and couldn't implement your recommendations. I have this new account now, and I tried to make the article more concise and comprehensible. I would be grateful for any additional suggestions you might have or if you would like to review it again. Strange Orange (talk) 19:15, 1 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Strange Orange, thanks for reaching out! I took a quick look at the article and it seems much improved. I will give other reviewers a chance to do the GAN before I look at it (more sets of eyes is always better), but I have put it on my watchlist and will help out where I can. If I have time this weekend, I can at least do a copyedit and proofreading before someone else reviews it. Just as a head up, the reviewing process is pretty backlogged so it may take quite a while. If you've got other projects on-wiki now would definitely be a good time to work on them while you wait. Fritzmann (message me) 20:10, 1 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Sanjib shah (10:15, 7 February 2024)

Can we create a page about ourself and publish here? --Sanjib shah (talk) 10:15, 7 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Sanjib shah: creating a page about yourself is discouraged, because you will naturally have a conflict of interest. If you are an editor, you are welcome to create a user page with some information about yourself. Fritzmann (message me) 14:51, 7 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

So will that page be live in Wikipedia? 2400:1A00:B030:554B:B5BB:77DD:C:A194 (talk) 14:52, 7 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It will not be indexed in search engines and will not be an encyclopedic page. Its purpose is to tell other editors about yourself. If you are looking for an avenue to have information about you reach other people, social media is a more appropriate venue than Wikipedia. If you believe you are notable (have media/press coverage), I recommend leaving a comment at the Teahouse with a request for guidance. Note that you would have to disclose your real-life identity. @SageWikiPro: If it is in the public domain, you can upload it at Wikimedia Commons using the "upload file" button. It should walk you through the process, but it can be a little confusing so visit their help desk if you need more guidance. After that, use the wikipedia editor on the page you want to add images to (by clicking "insert" and then "images and media"), then search for your image and insert! WikiCup 2024 February newsletter

The 2024 WikiCup is off to a flying start, with 135 participants. This is the largest number of participants we have seen since 2017.

Our current leader is newcomer Generalissima (submissions), who has one FA on John Littlejohn (preacher) and 10 GAs and 12 DYKs mostly on New Zealand coinage and Inuit figures. Here are some more noteworthy scorers:

As a reminder, competitors may submit work for the first round until 23:59 (UTC) on 27 February, and the second round starts 1 March. Remember that only the top 64 scoring competitors will make it through to the second round; currently, competitors need at least 15 points to progress. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAN, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges (Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs), Epicgenius (talk · contribs), and Frostly (talk · contribs)) are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Question from JAFactsDude on Draft:Splashway Waterpark and Campground (01:51, 12 February 2024)

I am new to wiki and you were labeled as my mentor. I have tried everything to cite sources on a article I’m trying to make and it is like

Cite error: A list-defined reference named "Website" is not used in the content (see the help page).

And I’ve tried so many ways and it just keeps saying error. I try the help pages and they don’t help. How am I supposed to cite links because at this point it’ll be impossible to get references cited and impossible for me to make an article. Can you help? --JAFactsDude (talk) 01:51, 12 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello JAFactsDude, thanks for reaching out. I made a clean-up edit on your draft, and added an example reference from a news article. I recommend you look at articles that are already made, and only include information that they have (check out Fair Park, for one). The list of attractions likely needs to be cut or re-done, depending on if there are actual sources for it.
As another avenue, are you using the visual editor? That makes adding sources a lot easier. Just hit the "cite" button along the top, and paste in a URL. It will help you make the citation, and you can tweak it if there are any issues. I can try to give more guidance if any of that doesn't make sense. Fritzmann (message me) 14:39, 12 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, thank you. No, I have been using a citation editor. I will start using visual. And about the list of attractions, it is from the official waterpark list of attractions page that I said in my words. Also, I am on Mobile, not computer, so that could be a problem. JAFactsDude (talk) 15:20, 12 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@JAFactsDude: mobile is good at small edits and tweaks, but it is not as effective for creating articles or doing referencing. I definitely recommend using a desktop for what you are trying to do. Fritzmann (message me) 15:37, 12 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, thank you. I am on an iPad and not a phone (thank god) So it’s not a small screen. I figured out citations and think the article is about ready. If you want to review it, you can. But I think 7 citations is good enough for the article. JAFactsDude (talk) 16:02, 12 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@JAFactsDude: looks like you got the hang of the referencing format, but before the article is ready you will need some better sources. Notice how I used a news article from a company not related to the water park — they are independent, and help to establish notability. I recommend looking to find more of these. Additionally, references should not be in the headers, but at the end of sentences in text. Fritzmann (message me) 17:46, 12 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I added 3 new references from news companies. I also added slightly more information in multiple sections. JAFactsDude (talk) 23:29, 12 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Chandpatel242 (12:15, 12 February 2024)

Hello can you help me to add article? --Chandpatel242 (talk) 12:15, 12 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Chandpatel242: try reading "My first article", which gives a good rundown of the process for beginners. It looks like there are a few issues with the draft you are trying to submit:
  1. It is not neutral. The article reads like it is promoting Chand Akbari, or like it is an advertisement for him.
  2. There may be concerns about a conflict of interest. This is not an allegation, but because of the similarities between your username (Chandpatel) and the article's subject (Chand Akbari), and because of the writing style, it might be inferred that you are writing about yourself.
  3. The article does not fit the tone of an encyclopedia. Phrases like "supportive pillars" and "top-notch... affordable rates" are not the kind of language that belongs in an encyclopedia.
Let me know if you have any more questions. Fritzmann (message me) 14:48, 12 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from JanetAdikpo (22:53, 18 February 2024)

Hello @Fritzman, I am new here. What advice can you provide me to help me grow my editing profile on wikipedia? --JanetAdikpo (talk) 22:53, 18 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@JanetAdikpo: thanks for reaching out! I recommend starting with The Wikipedia Adventure, a gameified intro to editing. There is a steep learning curve, but this does a good job of easing into it. From there, I would suggest looking for articles about subjects you care about, and then reading them to look for typos that you can fix. That kind of work is very appreciated! If you have specific questions, feel free to reach out here again and I can provide further guidance. Fritzmann (message me) 22:56, 18 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Intramural burial

On 20 February 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Intramural burial, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that for several millennia, some humans buried corpses in their houses? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Intramural burial. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Intramural burial), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Question from Ominateu (20:06, 22 February 2024)

Hello! I just wanted to ask you how can I delete a draft that I've made? Turns out the subject of the draft already has an article. --Ominateu (talk) 20:06, 22 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Ominateu: the Harriet Island draft? It looks like that is a new subject to me – I could only find Harriet Island Pavilion. Can you link the article that has already been made? You may be able to make it because the island itself would probably have different coverage than a structure on it. If not, just leave the draft without editing it. After a few months, it will be automatically removed. Fritzmann (message me) 20:20, 22 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Meicsiencyn on Positronium (13:53, 23 February 2024)

Hello. I've just joined Wikipedia. I'm a retired science teacher with a research science background at the University of Cambridge. I'd like to make a minor edit to the entry on Positronium. I'd like to change all references to 'atom' to 'particle' because atoms have to have a positive nucleus. How do I go about this? Thanks --Meicsiencyn (talk) 13:53, 23 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Meicsiencyn, and welcome to wikipedia! I'm glad you're bringing your skillset here. Feel free to be bold and click that edit button on the article to make the change! Be sure to leave an explanation in the edit summary box, and if necessary leave a message on the article's talk page. Please let me know if you have any more questions and I am happy to help. Question from Ominateu (14:38, 24 February 2024)

Hello! Could you tell me how to remove a really promotional userpage? User:Education Extra Plus is a blatant ad for them but I don't know how. --Ominateu (talk) 14:38, 24 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Ominateu, congrats on getting Harriet Island published! It looks really solid, especially for a first article. Looks like the user page was already speedy deleted, but good spot. If you want to tag a page like that in the future, just put {{Db-spamuser}} on the page to do the same thing. Fritzmann (message me) 15:05, 24 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Ominateu (02:30, 27 February 2024)

Hello! I've made a biography about an Italian rabbi which you can see at Draft:Menahem Noveira. Could you give me feedback on the draft? --Ominateu (talk) 02:30, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Ominateu: I've made some general fixes, but have a few queries:
  • Was his grandmother a rabbi? I don't think women could hold the position then, and the name Hezekiah is masculine, but I could be wrong
  • Was it the bible that was taught, or the Jewish Torah?
  • Is there any information about his works? What were they written about?
I'll leave the rest of comments for the reviewer, as I am not particularly intimate with the process of Articles for Creation. Fritzmann (message me) 13:08, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Response to query

Hi Fritzmann, regarding your last question about paywalls and stymied research efforts, it sounds like you might not be aware of Sci-Hub? Explore a bit and find out how easy it is to break through those paywalls and supercharge your research ... the ethics of the whole operation are a discussion for another time! I'll wrap up the GAN in the next couple of days. Esculenta (talk) 00:14, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Esculenta: Ah, I was thinking that may be what it was. Unfortunately I edit on a network whose administrators are rather up-tight about those sorts of resources. I'll have to hope that TWL keep up its mission and eventually makes Elsevier loosen their vice grip on scholarly works! Thanks for your assistance again in the GAN, it's always a pleasure to work with you. Fritzmann (message me) 13:20, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2024 March newsletter

The first round of the 2024 WikiCup ended at 23:59 (UTC) on 27 February. Everyone with at least 30 points moved on to Round 2, the highest number of points required to advance to the second round since 2014. Due to a six-way tie for the 64th-place spot, 67 contestants have qualified for Round 2.

The following scorers in Round 1 all scored more than 300 points:

In this newsletter, the judges would like to pay a special tribute to Vami_IV (submissions), who unfortunately passed away this February. At the time of his death, he was the second-highest-scoring competitor. Outside the WikiCup, he had eight other featured articles, five A-class articles, eight other good articles, and two Four Awards. Vami also wrote an essay on completionism, a philosophy in which he deeply believed. If you can, please join us in honoring his memory by improving one of the articles on his to-do list.

Remember that any content promoted after 27 February but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. @Hadialhamdani1931: welcome to Wikipedia. If you are an Arabic speaker and would like to write in that language, I would direct you to the Arabic Wikipedia. However, I would discourage you from writing about your father, as you have a conflict of interest because of your proximity to him. Can you review my changes

In the article Yasser Al-Dosari I made some changes. Can you review what the page was like before my first edit and after my last one to see if it's an acceptable edit?

I added a survey with a reference from a source used many times throughout the page. I also changes some spellings of his name so nthey don't contradict each other.

Another question I had is if using "Sheikh" behind his name is acceptable. Someone else had inputted it as such in one of the subsections but I didn't remove it in case it was allowed.

Thanks,

watermelon66 (talk) 19:22, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@CeasefireNow: this really isn't my subject area, so I can't be the one to judge if your changes are acceptable. At first glance, it seems alright. I would recommend in the future to leave a message on the talk page of the article if you are unsure about an edit. Give what you want to do, and your justification, just like you did here. If no one raises any complaints after a few days, you can be confident in your changes. Thank you for your work! Fritzmann (message me) 19:28, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

GAN review advice?

After your message in my talk page, I went ahead and checked the GAN backlog. I just completed my first review, at Enchylium polycarpon. I would appreciate any comments about it, because I'm unsure if I was too quick to fail it. As far as I'm concerned, I simply followed the GAN review instructions, but perhaps I need a second perspective. —Snoteleks (Talk) 19:53, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Snoteleks, I think your review was very fair. The referencing is a very long way from GA standards, and it wouldn't get there in a holding period. The way you explained how to improve the article was clear and concise, and gives a good template for renomination. Thank you! I will try to get to your GANs this weekend, I look forward to reviewing them! Fritzmann (message me) 22:45, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your input, it was honestly a big relief. In addition, I am currently doing my second GAN review, this time at the National Public Health Laboratory (Sudan) talk page! I haven't addressed the re-assessment of Enchylium polycarpon, but I will as soon as I'm ready, if someone doesn't review it first. — Snoteleks (talk) 17:37, 4 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey

Sorry for the several notices, but I figured this would be the best place to reach you. I apologize if I offended you; your critical review approach wasn't my favorite. If you're happy, I'll stop participating in GAN after ten successful noms. Once more, I sincerely hope there are no issues. Your actions have shown me that you hate me. It was just a misunderstanding; I didn't think I was inimical. You win. I'll try my best to improve fishing cat by Sunday. I'll quit GA to make you happy. Best, Wolverine XI (talk to me) 20:08, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I am truly sorry, I take back everything I said. I don't want a problem with anyone. I hope you forgive me. Wolverine XI (talk to me) 23:49, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Wolverine_XI, I want to make a few things very clear: I have no personal vendetta against you; I don't even know who you are. It would not make me happy for you to quit GA, I want you to understand the process and be a net positive for the encyclopedia. I am concerned, especially looking at previous behavior, that you are too invested in the encyclopedia and that it is affecting the way you interact with other editors. Here are my recommendations, which you are free to take or disregard as you please:
  1. Read the policy on assuming good faith. Other editors are not out to get you, and acting like they are will win you no support.
  2. Pull back at GAN and refocus. Try to get one really solid article through the process at a time, making 100% sure it is up to standards. If you have a reputation of writing rock-solid articles, you will get reviews way faster, especially in such a niche topic as biology. On the other hand, if reviewers know your submissions are likely to have major issues, they are less likely to take their time to look at them.
  3. Refrain from removing notices and archives you don't like. Especially with the failed GAN reviews, those are required for page history and so future editors have context for a situation. I've failed GANs before, especially when I was starting out. I treated them as lessons learned, rather than something to be ashamed of, and it made me a better person.
I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors. Fritzmann (message me) 11:55, 29 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from REMOTEVIEWINGMATRIX (00:54, 3 April 2024)

I am being told that my submission infringes on copyright but I own the copyright on the text and it is still getting denied. what do i do? --REMOTEVIEWINGMATRIX (talk) 00:54, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

REMOTEVIEWINGMATRIX, if you are referring to Draft:Major Ed Dames, that page has more issues than just copyright violations. Beyond that, unless you release the text under a compatible license, it cannot be included in Wikipedia whether you own it or not. Fritzmann (message me) 02:27, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Rgmkenna (09:43, 4 April 2024)

Good morning! I would like to create an entry for the cartoonise and caricaturist Edward S. Hynes. How should I go about doing this? --Rgmkenna (talk) 09:43, 4 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Rgmkenna, I recommend reading the guide on Your First Article! The blue button that says "Article Wizard" will guide you through a lot of the hard parts of the process. Just be sure to read and follow guidelines, or your article submission will likely be rejected. If you have questions or would like a review before you submit, just let me know! Fritzmann (message me) 13:26, 4 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I read the information.
The article is about a cartoonist from the 1930s to 1950s. He is my great uncle but died in the 1980s. He is mentioned in Mark Bryant's Dictionary of Cartoonists and Caricaturists. Is it still OK for me to puclish the article? Rgmkenna (talk) 09:36, 5 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I would definitely give it a try! While there is a small conflict of interest because he's a relative, I don't think it's a real issue. Just follow the steps at the Article Wizard and cite reliable sources like the Dictionary you mentioned, and I think it has a good chance of being approved. Obviously I can't guarantee anything, but I'm happy to give it a look when you're finished working so I can give a better prediction. Fritzmann (message me) 14:35, 5 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This is what I have written. I can add photos.
Let me know your thoughts. Rgmkenna (talk) 16:06, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies. I made a mistake there.
I have put in quotes regarding his work from the various newspapers of the time, from Arkell (his editor) and from the Dictonary of British Cartoonists and Caricaturists.
I will now follow Your First Article. Rgmkenna (talk) 13:19, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Rgmkenna, I've removed the draft because a talk page isn't quite the right place to put that. Use the article wizard to create a draft, and then I can look at that. I noticed you don't have any references, which are required for Wikipedia. Even if you know Mr. Hynes very well, that isn't enough to establish notability or allow readers to verify the content of the article. Fritzmann (message me) 00:01, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from ElmiInc (19:27, 7 April 2024)

How can I create a Wikipedia article --ElmiInc (talk) 19:27, 7 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@ElmiInc: are you associated with Elmi Inc. Consulting? Editing without disclosing a conflict of interest is not permitted, and having a username that is promotional for an organization is also not allowed. Before creating a page, disclosing corporate connections is required. Fritzmann (message me) 19:32, 7 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes of course I am. I am the founder. ElmiInc (talk) 19:33, 7 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Then you should not create a Wikipedia article for your company. Wikipedia is neutral in coverage, and because you have a vested financial interest in promoting your company you would be incapable of neutrality. Fritzmann (message me) 20:47, 7 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Centaur25555 (20:39, 7 April 2024)

Hello, how can I turn what I wrote in sandbox to an article? --Centaur25555 (talk) 20:39, 7 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Centaur25555, it looks like that article is already covered at KRS Nisarga Badavane. Is that correct? Fritzmann (message me) 20:44, 7 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from BuckinghamshireYorkshire on Draft:Jason Breshears (16:19, 8 April 2024)

Hello, first time making a wikipedia page. This page is a stub or intended to remain as a draft until non-youtube non-publisher sources are found to prove notability. I'd like to know what you think I should do before submitting for review --BuckinghamshireYorkshire (talk) 16:19, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

BuckinghamshireYorkshire, since there aren't any eligible sources at the moment to establish notability, I would advise against submitting the draft. I can tell you from experience it will not be accepted. Drafts aren't really meant to be holding spaces until notability arises; they are automatically deleted if they aren't submitted after six months. My recommendation would be to just hold off on it, or keep it in your sandbox, and refocus your editing (which clearly has potential!) on an article that definitely has notability. New Article

I have a new article called Split of CBS Corporation and Viacom. Can you review? Thanks! Merv Mat (talk) 4:17, 15 April 2024 (UTC)

Merv Mat, I'm not an expert in this kind of article, but I'm worried it may get nominated for WP:AfD. It relies very heavily on primary sources and may not demonstrate lasting notability beyond one event. If you can find any secondary reports or scholarship about the split, that would strengthen the article quite a bit. Fritzmann (message me) 02:52, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

GA Process for Telephone-Pole beetle

Hello! About a month ago I had submitted a DYK nomination for the telephone-pole beetle, and you commented that it has the potential to reach GA status with some work. Would you be able to help me through this process? Thanks!MichelleLi455 (talk) 17:43, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

MichelleLi455, absolutely! I am currently working with the author of Thistle tortoise beetle to do the same process. Take a look at the talk page there; I would have a lot of similar comments for your article. See if some of those critiques are applicable and do your best to implement them, and then nominate it for GAN! I will probably be able to start reviewing it in detail sometime next week. Also be sure to carefully read the article and copyedit it for any spelling and grammar mistakes. Glad to have you working so thoroughly on this topic! Redirect

Hi,

Mandazi is commonly referred to as Mahamri [1]. How would I create a redirect for the Mandazi page accordingly?

Any ideas for how to include this fact in the article and whether I can use this as a reference that Mahamri is often called Mandazi (since it says Mahamri or Mandazi).

Also, I think @Dr. Trafalgar D Water Law in the post above meant MTV Splitsvilla (season 15). He seems to be pretty active on that page.

Thanks. Pingy/Pongy 17:42, 25 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello DingDongPingPong, Mahamri is already a redirect to Mandazi. Reading the article, it also already mentions the other name in the infobox and in the section called "Preparation". Fritzmann (message me) 18:21, 25 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks!
But, in general, how do I add a redirect? Pingy/Pongy 20:13, 25 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Help:Redirect gives a very good guide, and you can even create new redirects directly from that page. Fritzmann (message me) 22:31, 25 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
