Hi Drunt, I noticed that you changed the palmares of Patrice Halgand & Mikhail Ignatiev. In your summary, you refer to the Standard Cyclist Biography page, but that page clearly says
...Sometimes the list is sorted by race, sometimes by year, chronologically or anti-chronologically. As far as I saw, (but it is NO rule), mostly retired cyclists have a chronologically victory-list, while active riders have an anti-chronologically victory-list. I see no good reason to prefer either one, so choose for yourself. Don't just change the order because you don't like it... Mango101 16:39, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

But if you prefer it your way there is no problem with me. User:Pie.er and User:Severo were working on a couple of articles to have something like a template for cycling riders... but I think they are no longer working on it. The riders are Michele Bartoli and Francesco Casagrande. I'm not an expert on that matter so... it's just that I had Ignatiev on watchpage and I saw you were editing some articles. Hi, thanks for your recent additions to the number of articles about cycling races. I have a lot of them on a looong list to do, so was amazed when I saw that you had started to so many! Linking in infoboxes is contentious, WP:MOSLINKS and WP:IBX are the guidelines on this. MOSLINKS suggests that you should only link at the point that people would want to take the temporary detour, which I believe is not at the infobox as that misses the point of the infobox - speedy retrieval of facts. As such it is written into the style guidelines of the particular template (at Template:Infobox Cycling race). It's not that I'm totally against linking in infoboxes, more I think one of the reasons for infoboxes is standardisation, so either they should all be linked or none of them... I tagged a few articles with {{MOSLOW}} because yes, as you say, they are organised 2007....1952 rather than 1952...2007. We used to have a problem with cycling articles in that all these used to be all over the place, but thanks to work (particularly by Pie.er) most are now correct and standardised. The organising of the biography you mention looks fine. I'll come back to your last point a bit later - I have to go out for a ride with my sister now and if I don't get a move on I'll be late! Well, thanks for the input. I've already fixed some mistakes I made in some articles. I will also join 'cycling project'. I still have some more articles to create (hopefully soon we will have almost all 1.1 races edited). I hope I could add more images to the articles but it's hard to find images without coypright. Nice one! Thanks for your work so far, all looks great! I know what you mean about images, sometimes it is possible to find image on flickr, but when someone comes to review them, the photographer has changed the permissions and you can't use them! Race names can be a bit arbitrary, there has been discussion at WikiProject Cycling before and there isn't a strong consensus. Thinking about the race classification, I'm not sure whether we should add a field in the infobox, or just annotate the difficulty after the competition (for example UCI Europe Tour 2.1) or in the type field (Stage race 2.1). Because it's a bit of technical jargon, we need to be wary that people who aren't really into cycling will just see it as a random number, but I agree that is is a useful addition to the box. Come to think of it, I do have an idea of what we could do. We could create a difficulty field, but only display it after one of the fields I just mentioned. In doing this, we could easily change the field or even put it in its own line in some point in the future if we wished without changing loads (possible hundreds) of infoboxes (if you see what I mean). Ooh, I was also thinking of another infobox you could perhaps help me on. Articles for specific races (usually named something like 2007 Tour of Antarctica) don't have an appropriate infobox yet. What do you mean by 'but only display it after one of the fields I just mentioned'? Anyone it sounds fine. Regarding infoboxes... I haven't experience editing that kind of articles so I don't know right now... date is a must. So is winners. Maybe director, an image for the edition? It's complicated because not every race has the same jerseys(for example, Vuelta a España has no 'young competition'). Maybe there should be a template for the classics/one-day-races and another one for Tours(2 or more days)? I don't really know, you probably have more experience! I always find the time before the UCI really confusing when it comes to the world championships. This page called 1927-1995 as professional and 1996 on as elite. The only results I get back when I google for amateur world cycling championship is anecdotal results, mostly about Merckx or Ullrich or random people having placed 24th or whatever in a particular edition. The UCI website is just a big mess and it's really slow. And their contributions to cycling in the last few years have just been quiet stupid. The best website to look for that kind of data is memoire-du-cyclisme.net (french). Here you may find some useful information about world championships url. Although it's a bit confusing... OK, I checked and I see what you mean, but I wonder in your system, how do you show it when a rider has a 2nd place in a race? What I do now is the following. I add results from single day races when they are 1, 2 or 3 and in multiple stage races I only add them when they are 1 in a stage and when they are 1, 2 or 3 in the final general ranking. From what I see you only add the 1st places in your system, but I think in single day races and in general rankings pos 2 and 3 are also important. To tell the truth I don't know exactly which data should be added, there is no guideline right now. But usually it depends on the rider. As I said I was only concerned about the style to display results. But I think that third place in a U23 event is just too much data (unless we are talking about the important events like Avenir, Tell or Montañes). OK, well the main reason for the different lay-out was that it saved quite some time to do it like that, but if it's better to do it the other way I guess I have no choice of changing it in the future. Maybe it's a good idea to do it in the current style when an article already exists, but for a new rider my lay-out can be used, which later can be changed? I'm actually from Spain and I'm trying to improve my english while I contribute to the Wikipedia. I usually spend my time on the Wikipedia updating the biographies of the current cycling stars. By the way, I'm very impressed by the last additions to the Paris-Roubaix article by both you and [User:Autodidactyl]] (not to mention all those other cycling articles you have improved). It's pretty amazing to have a real cycling historian contributing to the Wikipedia, great job!

P.S: I hope you don't mind me asking a question about cycling, but I've always wondered where the term 'Monument' of cycling comes from and maybe you know the answer. Who decided that this five races were the 'cream of the crop'? And who started calling them the 'monuments of cycling'? Was it because they were the oldest? I'm sorry, by the way, that I didn't reply earlier. I hadn't even noticed that you'd answered, being an ancient and confused old man easily baffled by technology. It was Peter (Autodidactyl) who told me! How come you speak such excellent English when my Spanish stays stubbornly in the present tense and is limited to asking directions, booking hotel rooms and buying beer?

"Monuments of cycling": so far as I know, with no evidence, it is a phrase that happened to be used in the last few years by journalists here in France, just a colourful expression. It means no more than "races that have been around a long time and form the permanent parts of the calendar." It's certainly not an official designation and I'm always tempted to remove it when I see it, because it adds nothing beyond the obvious. My guess is that it was picked up by American publications or on American TV and has become invested with a certain "insider" quality there. I notice I see it more on articles in which English is spelled the American way. It is much less used by British speakers and, curiously given it is of French origin, it is rare to hear it here as well.

Can you help me please. I see from various talk pages that you are Spanish and interested in cycling. I need a few Spanish paragraphs about the history of French cycling to be understood accurately. I have already done a rough translation (Google), but the subject itself is 'confusion, wrong naming, and different transient publications fighting over the same name', so it needs a perfect understanding of the Spanish.

The article is Le Vélocipède Illustré. Please can you check reference 8 Universidad Complutense de Madrid, History of Cycling. Departamento de Filología Francesa, La Lengua del Ciclismo en Fraces : Analisis Semantico y Lexicologico 1.2. EL CICLISMO Y LA PRENSA p.20-21, and see if my interpretation of Foix, Voiron, Le Vélocipède Le Petit Vélocipède, 3 months, etc is accurate.

Hello Chienlit, I still remember that Paris-Rouen was one of the first articles I created for wikipedia . Anyway, I'm not that good when it comes to translations but I think I can give you a hand. Your translations (referenced) with some changes:

In October 1868 Le Vélocipède was published in Foix Ariège, although the title was misleading as it was not related to velocipedes, but an excuse to obtain an Imperial publication license.<-- I changed some words. I don't understand why they used the name Velocipède and why that granted them an imperial publication license but I guess that doesn't matter.

On March 1st 1869 another independent newspaper called Le Vélocipède was published in Voiron, near Grenoble. It also promoted itself as the "Humourous journal and gazette of sportsmen and cyclists (vélocemen)." <-- Looks fine. I don't speak French, though. It says it was bimensual

when the impact of the Franco-Prussian War depressed sales at the end of the cycling boom. <-- Looks fine, but I couldn't find any mention about depressed sales. Maybe that is from the other reference of that sentence?

I'm not sure if you wanted me to check these references or translate something more. I'll later see if I can add some more information from that pdf to wikipedia.

A tag has been placed on File:Tour de Romandie logo.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia.
