Dr. Macro

While I'm not going to support your motion, if you want to do a bulk nomination of all Dr. Macro images that have been uploaded to Wikipedia or Commons, I'm willing to help you compile that list. Samsara 03:51, 26 February 2015 (UTC)

  • I've been tempted several times, but right now is a very bad time for me. Minimum 4 hours of teaching and 4 hours of translating, plus transportation and other activities, has left me with very little time to do Wikipedia-related stuff outside TFA, POTD, and FPC. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 05:09, 26 February 2015 (UTC)

I am planning to take the article to FA status. Is the length OK at present? Ssven2 Speak 2 me 10:21, 26 February 2015 (UTC)

Purely from a length perspective, much more manageable. As I mentioned above, I'm quite busy in real life at the moment, but perhaps Dr Blofeld (who has written several FAs on Indian cinema) has time to look into it further. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 10:26, 26 February 2015 (UTC)

 — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:56, 26 February 2015 (UTC)

Crisco, can I ask you to take a look at this one? It's intended for Black History Month, and the image hasn't been reviewed, nor has the new ALT hook. The image appears to be free in Canada, but I don't know whether that would apply to the U.S. as well, and since the Wikipedia servers are in the U.S., that might (or might not!) be an issue. (Another potential issues: whether it's clear enough at 100x100 to be worth running.)

If you could also check the hook, which does look okay, then if you can finish the nomination I can try to get it into a set on February 28. Many thanks! BlueMoonset (talk) 02:24, 26 February 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for checking. Maury Markowitz has since replied there to your point. BlueMoonset (talk) 17:53, 26 February 2015 (UTC)
I appreciate you going back. This is an issue that would hold the nomination up anyway, because such images are in the article without proper licensing, right? If not, the simplest thing would be to promote the nomination without the image, which I can't see well enough at DYK size to read the title of the work anyway. BlueMoonset (talk) 00:00, 27 February 2015 (UTC)
  • I have little doubt that the image is free; it's just a matter of getting the proper templates on the image page. Running without an image would probably be acceptable, but I wouldn't want to draw attention to the mis-templated image by putting it on the MP. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:06, 27 February 2015 (UTC)

License question...

Is this an acceptable license for use on Commons and/or Wikipedia?--Godot13 (talk) 03:00, 1 March 2015 (UTC)

  • Definitely not on its own, as both NC and ND fall short of the four freedoms used by Commons (stated explicitly at Commons:Creative Commons copyright tags). Some users like to avoid this by using a NC license with a freer GFDL license (which requires that the entire license be included during reuse, and thus is very impractical for photographs), but that's not accepted at Commons FPC anymore and is liable to get the ire of a lot of Wikipedians too. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 03:17, 1 March 2015 (UTC)
    • Kind of what I thought. I just noticed it here...--Godot13 (talk) 04:58, 1 March 2015 (UTC)
      • Yeah, Alchemist is one of those people. Hence why he essentially never nominates his own work at FPC on Commons now. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 05:17, 1 March 2015 (UTC)

Picture of the x-day !

Hi Crisco, you are active in WP:POTD and your username is listed there. I recently found out about the POTD project and all the awesome work that goes into it. I have made a similar template called POTX in my user space and thought to let you know. It is User:Bammesk/templates/POTX and has documentation describing it. I have been around for 2 years and focused on article space of musicians. Going forward I will not be active on Wikipedia, although I might edit once in a while. I may or may not have the inclination to keep an eye on POTX and the 31 images associated with it (which ideally should be changed once a month). Anyway, I wanted to let you know, and thank you for all the good work specially with featured pictures and POTD. Bammesk (talk) 16:30, 28 February 2015 (UTC)

  • Nice. There are ways to let the template change months (i.e. not just change the dates automatically), so if you know how to do that you won't need much maintenance - assuming you're using the POTD images. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:27, 1 March 2015 (UTC)
  • I see your point. I might do that. Yes I am using only POTDs. The manual selection lets one pick favorites, but yes maintenance is an issue and it is prone to vandalism if no one is watching (without page protection). May be I add another parameter to the template so that it can either operate the way it is now (and picks from the image list), or it sequences through the POTD archive month to month, like you say. I like your idea :) Bammesk (talk) 01:12, 1 March 2015 (UTC)
  • It is done. Like you said, no more manual updates and immune to vandalism. It is here User:Bammesk/templates/POTX and on my user page. If it can be improved, let me know. Bammesk (talk) 07:58, 1 March 2015 (UTC)

Crisco, I was wondering whether you could take a look at this one. It's now our oldest DYK nomination, and there have been issues with it since the beginning. Currently, it's down to two people: the nominee, Epeefleche, who seems to think that it should go ahead, and the reviewer, LlywelynII, who thinks it has a number of fatal flaws. If you could please check and see whether you think this is fatally flawed, severely flawed (in which case, after three months, it's probably time to close anyway), flawed but fixable without too much work, or basically there, that would be great. Many thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 19:52, 28 February 2015 (UTC)

  • BlueMoonset, I could probably pick holes in that article all day, but right now my concern is that the dispute (which really shouldn't have gotten out of hand like that; no part of WP:RS requires methods to be shown, and Epee took care to note the source for the 8 million number) has led to a serious case of Wikipedia:Citation overkill, which makes the article really rough to read and appear more questionable than it actually is. I mean, five cites for the organization's mission statement? Cripes. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:36, 1 March 2015 (UTC)
  • Thanks for looking. Can you do something? I certainly can't, and I don't know anyone else I would trust to try. (Orlady's been inactive for quite some time—only eight edits this year, and none for almost a month—or I might have asked her.) BlueMoonset (talk) 14:52, 1 March 2015 (UTC)

Sourcing for images

I'm doing an image review for the FAC candidate "M-theory". The images used in the article have a host of problems, but one thing I'm not 100% certain about is the sourcing. Quite a few of the diagrams were made by editors and sourced as "Own work". I'm under the impression that if the diagrams are based on data, equations, concepts, or other illustrations, they should be sourced to an existing work. ("Own work" would still apply to the actual image, but citations need to be provided.) Do you agree with this interpretation? – Maky « talk » 20:38, 3 March 2015 (UTC)

  • Correct. According to WP:OI, images shouldn't illustrate or introduce unpublished ideas or arguments; without references for the information in graphs, they end up looking like they're doing that. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:46, 3 March 2015 (UTC)

Use question

The portrait was done by William Orpen, but no idea of when other than before Orpen's death in 1931. Can this be used as PD, since it's more than 70 years since Orpen's death? Thanks, We hope (talk) 15:16, 3 March 2015 (UTC)

  • Waddington's doesn't give any information as to what year it was made. Although the work is likely PD in the UK, it would be doubtful in the US. Commons position on the URAA is much less open than it was in the past, and treats {{Not-PD-US-URAA}} as a copyvio template. Whether or not people will actually delete the file, that's a different question. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:53, 3 March 2015 (UTC)
This was what I was doubtful about-since there's no photo for him, I think it will need to be used here as non free if it's decided to use it. Thanks! We hope (talk) 00:58, 4 March 2015 (UTC)

Another use question

We'd possibly like to use photos from a 1906-1907 UK trade journal article starts page 439. Some of the photos were taken by the journal-others are attributed to the "Builders Journal". I've tried to find out which "Builders Journal" this might be--no luck. None of the photos are credited to the person taking them. Know that the US copyright is over due to age. Can these be used with a PD-old tag or, because we don't know who took the photos, does anonymous come into play here? Thanks, We hope (talk) 23:03, 4 March 2015 (UTC)

  • Can't access it online. I'd use PD-1923 and upload to Wikipedia, as that's the most definite. Those taken by the magazine itself may have {{PD-anon-1923}} applied and uploaded to Commons, but the British "anonymous" is very strictly interpreted. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:01, 5 March 2015 (UTC)
A belated but sincere Thanks! I'd forgotten to mention that most of the HathiTrust offeringe are very large files. Sometimes in order to view them, you need to put their reader into scroll mode or everything will go by so quickly, you won't see what you came there for. Happened to me at first when I went in for the US-published Ritz articles/photos and a larger copy of the Tower House illustration. :) We hope (talk) 20:13, 6 March 2015 (UTC)
  • It's not that, but I'm getting "This item is not available online ( Limited - search only) due to copyright restrictions." — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:23, 6 March 2015 (UTC)
Then it must be restricted by your IP location. Not sure if Dr. B. encountered any issues when trying to view it. The IP police! :-P We hope (talk) 23:31, 6 March 2015 (UTC)
  • Indeed. I hate that so much. Google does the same thing, too. A couple of the books I used in writing Graziella had to be accessed through archive.org, because Google wouldn't let me see them. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:33, 6 March 2015 (UTC)
What I can do is to take the pages from the article and host them at OneDrive. Not sure if they're blocking Dr. B. or not and the article has a lot of information about the construction of the London Ritz. There's enough photos that you can literally see the building going up. It seems so foolish because the harm isn't in the reading of something, it's in the copying of it outside of where it's PD-just restrict it to read-only then. So much of this material is out of print, so it's not a matter of depriving the publishers of their due. Some years ago the British Pharmacoepia was available online to anyone who came to the website. I had to stop referring to it a while back because they were blocking IPs who weren't either in the UK or from a disadvantaged nation. We hope (talk) 23:46, 6 March 2015 (UTC)

your comments on UPT in ITN

Yes, I have declared as well as undeclared ties with every scholar of world, with every citizen of universe and any one who is doing great work. I am here for the truth in a neutral way. Please be nice and think twice before you make any statement and unreasonable allegations on the people. I note that in the past also you had been unreasonable with Indian subjects! Lots of people have been shouting at you on your talk page. any way, it is your wish.... and your way of living in community. Take care. Educationtemple (talk) 05:10, 7 March 2015 (UTC)

  • Unreasonable with Indian subjects? Evidence for that personal attack, please. I've reviewed numerous India-related articles, and written some of my own.
Meanwhile, you have been promoting this one article in many parts of the encyclopedia, without bothering to check if it is appropriate. If you do have a COI, I recommend that you declare it. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 06:35, 7 March 2015 (UTC)
@Educationtemple: - assuming that you are a science student as claimed on your user page, I would suggest that you provide reasonable arguments for the claims you are making. Noting that your interests are largely associated with CCMB and a couple of scientists there with one subject in a patent dispute and your law background, it seems normal for anyone to suspect that you have an association with the CCMB. Shyamal (talk) 07:18, 7 March 2015 (UTC)

Dear Shyamal - CCMB, IISC, AIIMS, IITs these are some of the top institutes of India. One will not focus and waste energy to write about unnoticeable and local colleges, which is any way not worthy for WP. This is just my beginning on WP, please give me time, you will see whole range of articles on Indian science and law subjects, hopefully all GA, sourced and making DYKs. Hope you understand and let me work here. I close this discussion with hope that the senior admins will help newcomers to do good work. Thanks. Educationtemple (talk) 07:31, 7 March 2015 (UTC)

Careful about what you are addressing. Your claim is that Crisco is being prejudiced and you have no real reason for it. He deserves an apology. Tangential comments do not help. Shyamal (talk)

I humbly say that I came here on WP to learn how to write good English, how to present a subject and do research on it, and how to be in line with science and technology and current on going issues. My intention is certainly not to heart anyone, to even speak a single word against anyone and disturb anyone. I admire knowledge and I know editor like you and Crisco are here since decades, serving the community selflessly. You just taught me some good english in some edits that you did in Verma and I thanked you for the same.

If i had heart Crisco, my sincere apologies but it was not intentional. I did not like when he directly blamed me that I may have ties with Verma, without knowing my working style, that I always work step by step, one after other and I cant work on many things at a time. Hope it is OK.

I am now leaving for 2-3 days on an educational tour, so will not be available to reply. I apologized many times to my teachers in real life, you all are my teachers and I feel grateful if someone teach me something. How can I heart you here? Thanks and Cheers! Educationtemple (talk) 08:04, 7 March 2015 (UTC)

I would second what Shyamal is saying - one has to be very careful - specially when a new user - to realise who is saying what and why.

Crisco is both a long term dedicted editor (his edit count hovers about 1,000 above mine and I have been here short of 10 years) and an administrator of wide experience - and if he says something, and you wish to argue with it, I would caution such a judgement - also the very notion that something is not worthy for WP is totally missing the point - this is an online encyclopedia - if something is notable (ie meets the WP:N criterion) and has adequate resources to back that up (in the form of WP:RS) - it may be of interest - it simply cannot be evaluated by the comment unnoticeable.. whis is any way not worthy - which is not how wikipedia works. See WP:ABOUT and WP:NOT if you need the reasoning and rationale explained.

satusuro 08:08, 7 March 2015 (UTC)

  • Iff this is just the beginning of a more general interest in adding content to Wikipedia, be it related to law or biology or another subject, then I apologize for any presumption of bad faith. However, I do recommend that you perhaps edit a wider variety of articles (related to Indian law and biology, or genetics, or whatever), to avoid appearing like a single-purpose account. We could certainly use more coverage of Indian academics, assuming that the articles comply with WP:N and WP:V. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 08:21, 7 March 2015 (UTC)

a question

about POTD archive, for example on this page [1] the August 1 and August 3 images are panoramic. Can I change their display parameters to |size=1200 |wide=yes ? Will that mess up their "protected" versions ? There are a bunch of images like these in the archive. (I am thinking generally aspect ratios of >2.9 to 1 can use the |wide=yes option?) Bammesk (talk) 01:12, 10 March 2015 (UTC)

  • No, it should not mess up the protected version. See, for instance, Template:POTD protected/2015-01-09. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:18, 10 March 2015 (UTC)

FAC image review

I was wondering if you'd have time to do an image review at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/M-theory/archive1? I did the original image review (as I mentioned earlier on your talk page), but I have become too involved in creating SVG graphics for the article and cleaning up the sourcing. Also, I'm not sure if one of the SVG files is appropriate, or whether it should be reverted back to the original JPEG version. In all, the images have come a long way, and it should be a fairly simple review. – Maky « talk » 21:46, 10 March 2015 (UTC)

Indonesian war films

Selamat sore. I've spent a bit of time rewriting war film which was both almost uncited and almost all-American. Yeah. It's a little more balanced now, but I'm struggling a bit with Indonesian cinema which I see you didn't think much of either. Could you possibly take a look at War film#Indonesian war films and see if you could improve it a little? I don't think you'll find that hard! And of course, a historic image would be really nice, too. Terima kasih, Chiswick Chap (talk) 18:39, 10 March 2015 (UTC)

P.S. If you feel like suggesting improvements to anything else in the article, that wouldn't go amiss either. Again, it'll be easy to find things that could be done better. Chiswick Chap (talk) 18:40, 10 March 2015 (UTC)
Many thanks, I'll work on these. Of course I hope you'll pass by later and see how things are going! Chiswick Chap (talk) 07:41, 11 March 2015 (UTC)

(Am temporary using this username) I mistakenly made edits that will let other users know my ip address. (I made edits without logging in and then replaced the ip with my signature.) This will allow users to identify my ip. Is there a way to remove a few edits from my history and from the history of the page it was been written to? FAC review items

I have some questions based on your comments on the Enthiran FAC. How do you verify that YouTube links are not copyright violations? Is it enough if the video comes from the official YouTube channel of author of the content? For image checks, I take it that the source must not be dead. How about an archive link? I am always leery of images that say "own work", so what is the threshold of documentation to make those acceptable? I ask because I just found one on Shah Rukh Khan. It says own work and it has the user/author's name on the picture, but the user is red-linked. Thanks, BollyJeff | talk 19:57, 11 March 2015 (UTC)

  • Archive links are fine, if necessary (I've used them myself, numerous times). If a Youtube channel belongs to the company which produced the television show/interview/whatever, it's probably fine. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:48, 11 March 2015 (UTC)
Thanks. Do you know how to verify author="own work" pictures? The one I am interested in specifically is here: [5]. BollyJeff | talk 00:01, 12 March 2015 (UTC)
  • Generally I look at the EXIF data (present and reasonable for the lighting and performance), see if the uploader has had a history of uploading copyvios (only one file for deletion [for this image, too], at commons:Commons:Deletion requests/File:Sharukhan.jpg; it was kept), and try a reverse Google search to see if it was published before being uploaded to Wikimedia Commons. I'll let you try that one. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:15, 12 March 2015 (UTC)

Request on 17:54:20, 9 March 2015 for assistance on AfC submission by Andjelo Dragovic

Greetings! It looks like I still need assistance in creating a wikipedia article. Can You please help me with making this article adequate for wikipedia. I've added some links to webpages that are and aren't part of the company, just to verify the notability of this Company. Please help me in creating this article.Or tell me a paragraph that needs to have reliable sources. Thank You :)

Andjelo Dragovic (talk) 17:54, 9 March 2015 (UTC)

  • Andjelo, could you please link to the article in question? — Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:11, 10 March 2015 (UTC)
  • Here is the draft article. Draft:Tring-Albania Thank You Andjelo Dragovic (talk) 08:58, 10 March 2015 (UTC)
    • Alright, Andjelo, I am not able to read Albanian, so I'll give you some general ideas. What you want is at least one (preferably more than one) reliable source (like a mainstream newspaper or academic book) which goes into detail regarding the company, which you can use to write a neutral article. This doesn't have to be in English; it can be in Albanian, or another language. Without at least one of those, the article is not likely to be accepted. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 09:07, 10 March 2015 (UTC)
  • Hello again, Crisco 1492! I have placed multiple links on the Draft:Tring-Albania article that mention the services or products of this company. Please can You check the article once again? Thank You very much Andjelo Dragovic (talk) 10:57, 10 March 2015 (UTC)
    • Just a mention is not enough. There must be in-depth information. Reviews of products, for instance, would be good for the individual shows/other products. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 13:25, 10 March 2015 (UTC)
  • Thank You very much Crisco 1492. I think the reference to the Eutelsat article:

http://www.lyngsat.com/packages/Tring-Digital.html really proves the notability of this company. This is some kind of review which testifies that the company is selected from one of the world's leading satellite operators Eutelsat, to operate in Albania through their satellite signals. Andjelo Dragovic (talk) 17:58, 10 March 2015 (UTC)

  • Please tell me if it is now ready do be published? Sorry for insisting so much and bothering you so many times :) Andjelo Dragovic (talk) 18:36, 10 March 2015 (UTC)
    • Lyngsat doesn't look like an independent source, though, and it doesn't provide much detail on the company itself. It only provides a listing of channels. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:10, 11 March 2015 (UTC)
  • I'm very sorry Crisco 1492, I misplaced the link in the comment above. The link to the Eutelsat news is

http://www.eutelsat.com/news/compress/en/2012/html/PR%206112%20Tring-Albania/PR%206112%20Tring-Albania.html Apologies again. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Andjelo Dragovic (talkcontribs) 08:43, 11 March 2015 (UTC)

    • That is, sadly, not an independent source, nor is it reliable. Eutelsat, as a partner of Tring, falls short of the independence requirement, and it appears to be a press release, which is generally not reliable enough for Wikipedia. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 08:53, 11 March 2015 (UTC)
  • I understand. I found this pdf on the ama.gov.al (Audio-Visual Media Authority in Albania, a government agency) which describes the strategy of Digital Television Transition in Albania:

http://ama.gov.al/pdf/9STRATEGJIA_E_KALIMIT_NGA_TRANSMETIMET_ANALOGE_NE_TRANSMETIMET_NUMERIKE.pdf At page 20, under the 2.3 title, the first paragraph states that Tring already transmits its contents over Albania in digital format. Can all these sources be considered together reliable and independent? Thank You Crisco 1492, Andjelo Dragovic (talk) 10:17, 11 March 2015 (UTC)

    • Andjelo, that's a good start, but you'll need a bit more information from reliable sources to show that the company has received enough coverage to pass the notability guidelines. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 13:35, 11 March 2015 (UTC)
  • Crisco 1492, I think I've found what is needed. There is another pdf which is a report about the development of the digital media in Albania. On the 16-th page, the first paragraph states the number of subscribers inside and outside Albania. — Andjelo Dragovic (talk) 15:06, 11 March 2015 (UTC)
    • Again, it helps, but it doesn't provide in-depth coverage. In-depth coverage is more than just one statement. It is coverage of multiple aspects about the company, preferably in an article/other publication dedicated entirely to it. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 15:24, 11 March 2015 (UTC)
  • Again, many thanks to You. I added the last link to the independent Report to the Article "Tring-Albania". I can not find any more resources for the moment. But I must have this article published. Please can you Crisco 1492 accept this article submission? Im going to submit the article now.....please accect this submisison :) - Andjelo Dragovic (talk) 19:48, 11 March 2015 (UTC)
    • I'll be leaving it for an uninvolved reviewer to take a look at. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:49, 12 March 2015 (UTC)

Request Edits

I have a bunch of Request Edits in the queue,[6][7][8][9][10] some of which are a month or so old. Ideally I'd wait in the queue for a random editor, but that could literally take six months, a year, or longer. I was wondering if you had time to take a look at a one, a couple, a few, or however much you have time for. CorporateM (Talk) 15:16, 10 March 2015 (UTC)

You are hard to keep up with! I think that literally clears out all of my request edits. I've pinged you on the Shaygan Kheradpir article for a couple more items if you have time. Thanks so much for pitching in! CorporateM (Talk) 17:07, 10 March 2015 (UTC)
  • Fortunately the edits were not that controversial. The pet food one may end up being so, but I agree that it's not specifically a matter for the PetCare article, but rather the brand in general. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:40, 10 March 2015 (UTC)
Now I'll be the paranoid ABFer, but do you think this is a sleeper sock?[11] I mean what are the chances of someone just strolling up right after changes are made, after four years of inactivity, and directly soliciting the obvious SPA/COI to add a primary source + there is already an editing pattern that suggests some kind of tenuous (likely paid) editing and using a sleeper account to create the appearance of consensus is what some astroturfing firms are known to do. Ugh, Wikipedia has made me jaded. Go ahead and tell me I belong at Wikpediaocracy with all my paranoid delusions. One of these days @Drmies: will just block me, not for edit-warring or anything like that, but to put me out of my misery from all this crap that he seems to take in strides at ANI. Hey, picture guy

Hey, Crisco. Whenever I upload images that I've got TIFs for (like from LoC) I upload coversions to both PNG and JPG to Commons. The Upload Wizard won't let me upload images that have the same name but different file extensions, so I end up appending something ugly like "(compressed)" to the JPGs. I've noticed, though, that Commons doesn't actually disallow this: File:Example.png and File:Example.jpg. Can you tell me how to upload files this way? Curly Turkey ¡gobble! 00:17, 12 March 2015 (UTC)

  • PS—"poet-ray"? What the Dickinson? Curly Turkey ¡gobble! 00:18, 12 March 2015 (UTC)
    • The Kingdom Hearts reference was getting old . I generally upload using the normal upload form, then when it warns me that the names are too similar, I click on "ignore all warnings" or whatever. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:20, 12 March 2015 (UTC)
      • Doesn't that mean you have to do them all one by one? The other day I uploaded a batch of forty (20 x png + jpg) all from the same author, source, etc. I don't think I'd have the stamina. I've tried Communist, but I haven't had luck using it behind a proxy. Curly Turkey ¡gobble! 00:28, 12 March 2015 (UTC)
        • Best way I know to do it, unless you resort to adding png and jpg as your disambiguators. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:43, 12 March 2015 (UTC)
          • Okay, I'm gonna poke around Commons and see if Upload Wizard can be modified to allow this. Thanks anyways! Curly Turkey ¡gobble! 01:11, 12 March 2015 (UTC)

Couple of questions

Before you get overwhelmed by your TFA responsibilities:

  • Based on the claimed source, this appears to have been scanned from a copy held by the museum. Since the march occurred in 1936, and the photograph is thought anonymous, it should be PD in the UK since 2006 (and thus the "no copyright restrictions" claim at Flickr). Now... the US copyright... the URAA would probably have a applied, so it is probably not be free in the US. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:28, 12 March 2015 (UTC)
  • Do you think you could manage an image review on the FAC for Mary Celeste? I don't think there are problems there, but it needs clearance. I'd be most obliged. Brianboulton (talk) 22:51, 12 March 2015 (UTC)

Crisco, this is an odd one. It appears that the author of some academic papers on the topic of Ideasthesia, perhaps even the person who came up with it, has written the Wikipedia article, which was listed as a GA earlier this year and nominated for DYK. There were some hook sourcing issues, which seem to have been addressed, but the article has been tagged with Primary and Confusing templates, and there seems to be a COI question in addition to the primary sourcing because the author's own papers are being cited.

I have no idea what would need to be done here, or if the templates, if appropriate, would indicate that the GA review should be revisited. (Having them there strikes me as an issue with approving the DYK nomination.) Thanks for your help here; I was pinged, but I've never had to deal with anything like this before, and don't know how it should be handled: as an admin, either you know how or probably know someone who would know how. Grammatical Question

Hi my friend!

Hoping you are happy and joyful. I have a question that you are able to reply. We say:

  • Obama was born in Honolulu. then we can ask:
  • where was Obama born? then we can answer:
  • Honolulu.
  • Obama was born in 1961. then we can ask:
  • when was Obama born? then we can answer:
  • 1961.
  • Obama is 44th President of the United States. then what sort of question can we ask?
  • -----------------------? then we can answer:
  • 44th.

___Thank you very much______Alborzagros (talk) 12:51, 10 March 2015 (UTC)___

  • Probably "Which president was Barack Obama?", though that's more open ended than your other questions. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 13:23, 10 March 2015 (UTC)
  • I'm looking for the question focuses on number 44th. The question that you dear dude suggested is in ambiguity. For example when we have pictures of both Obama and George Bush, we can ask "Which president was Barack Obama?". This Q doesn't refer about mater of sequential and respectively number of Obama presidency. thanks if you inform me. Alborzagros (talk) 13:38, 10 March 2015 (UTC)
  • Problem is, native speakers would probably not ask "What order was Barack Obama elected president?" If the answer could only be "44th", then it would be something like "Barack Obama was the ______ elected president". — Crisco 1492 (talk) 14:29, 10 March 2015 (UTC)
  • You mean there is no direct question to make. I suggest two ways blew:
  • Madison was the 4th president of USA. What about Obama?
  • Which president is Barack Obama respectively/sequentially?

___THANKS FOR ALL ANSWERS__Alborzagros (talk) 06:25, 11 March 2015 (UTC)

    • "Of the 44 U.S. presidents so far, which one was Barak Obama?" - Dank (push to talk) 17:45, 11 March 2015 (UTC)
      • My objection to that phrasing is that, for anyone who knows Obama is the current US president, the answer is given right there. For most any other president, that would work though. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:47, 11 March 2015 (UTC)

Seeking to pick your brains yet again...

...may I ask for your expert view on File:Maurice Ravel 1925.jpg, File:Montfort-l'Amaury Maison Ravel.jpg, File:Maurice-Ravel-soldier-1916.jpg and File:Ravel au piano.jpg. From which you will, being shrewd, correctly deduce that Ravel is next on my FAC list and is on the tapis in my sandpit. I'd like to be sure of my ground when deciding whether to include these images in the version that goes to PR and FAC, am dubious about them and would be most grateful for your expertise. – Tim riley talk 22:49, 13 March 2015 (UTC)

  • File:Maurice Ravel 1925.jpg is fine (1925 date checks out, and listed as PD by the library), File:Montfort-l'Amaury Maison Ravel.jpg is likewise fine; a 2006 image is going to be difficult to show otherwise). Source for File:Ravel au piano.jpg is dead. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:33, 13 March 2015 (UTC)

      • If the building was constructed in 1921, and you can't find the architect's name, PD-anon-EU (70 years) applies. I'd not use the deadlinked image. Soldier image should be fine. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:34, 14 March 2015 (UTC)

Not sure if a Request Edit is needed for images, which typically fall under non-controversial edits, but thought I would see[15].

A while back I told you and another editor I didn't think it was realistic for a company to give up freely licensed images, but I was definitely wrong in that.[16][17][18][19] Elgato even donated their entire archive of product photos. Crisco, there's no rush on this since the nomination appears stalled for the moment, but the Tom Hallifax article has an image from Commons that was originally uploaded by the User:Hallifox account—the same named account uploaded the image to Commons in 2014 and added it to the Wikipedia article in 2015. Obviously, the Hallifox account would have to be Tom Hallifax's if this were to allowable, and furthermore It seems to me that this would need to have some sort of OTRS-filed permission from said artist to be sure the copyright is set. When you're back and recovered after your vacation, can you please comment at the nomination, and do whatever needs to be done at Commons? Many thanks, and I hope you're having a great time! Sumber brosur

--Erik Fastman (talk) 13:42, 26 March 2015 (UTC)

  • Emang Wikipedia mewajibkan semua sumber bisa diakses melalui internet? Nggak. Kalau nanti ada yang minta, gampang. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 13:44, 26 March 2015 (UTC)

Oh ya, kalo sumber buku kok pada bagian "Notes"nya dibagi per halaman. Sumber website aja isinya sampe bejibun sekalipun tetep dihitung satu sumber.

What a joke (talk) 10:10, 27 March 2015 (UTC)

--Erik Fastman (talk) 10:58, 28 March 2015 (UTC)

  • Iya, memang tidaklah muda menulis artikel pilihan. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 13:35, 28 March 2015 (UTC)

— Crisco 1492 (talk) 12:54, 30 March 2015 (UTC)

John Gielgud etc FLRC

Hey Crisco,

Thanks for taking the time to look at my FLRC. But I'm having trouble understanding your close, specifically the "naming was considered appropriate at the time, and further discussion is possible" along with your suggestion to raise the issue on the talk page. You might not have noticed that this was raised multiple times on the talk page already, and also more broadly at the filmography RFC, without any move toward consensus?

I get that nobody wants to revisit featured list candidacies over and over, but since there were so many contentious discussions about the article title after the nomination with no consensus resolution, I have a hard time seeing how my nomination was procedurally improper.

Thanks for your help.

Ps-- You would know this better than me, but when I read FLC/ar it didn't sound like a bot was going to archive the discussion of delisting proposals. AgnosticAphid talk 00:52, 27 March 2015 (UTC)

  • The FL criteria, as you alluded to in your nomination statement, require articles to comply with the manual of style, including that for naming. When a list is promoted without discussion of the title, there is an implied consensus that the title during the FLC is in-line with the MOS. This does not, of course, mean that it's impossible for the title of an FL to be changed, and it's happened a couple of times. One example that I know of is List of works by Amir Hamzah, which was retitled Amir Hamzah bibliography by another editor.
However, there is no precedent for lists to be delisted because of disputes over the title, particularly when there are people who view both or all alternative titles to be in-line with the MOS. The whole "bodies of work" series appears to have become quite contentious, and as you state, there is no consensus what the best title to be used is. Until such time the titles are standardized, I can't really see disagreements over two MOS-abiding titles (or, at least, titles considered to abide by the MOS by at least one party) leading to a delist. After all, the MOS gives a little bit of leeway for titles, particularly those related to lists. Disagreement may be inevitable, but discussion should take place on the talk page.
Personally, I consider it akin to trying to delist an FA over the inclusion or lack of inclusion of an infobox: there are very strong opinions all around, some leeway in the MOS, and a lot of far-reaching contention. Such cases should be discussed at the talk page, and any consensus (or lack of consensus) determined there. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:04, 27 March 2015 (UTC)
Re: Bot: Yeah, there has been an editor closing those recently (Cowlibob, if I'm not mistaken [thanks muchly]). The closing statement is mostly a template, however, and it doesn't seem to have been updated much since the bot died on us. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:04, 27 March 2015 (UTC)
Well, look. I think it's unfair that you closed the discussion on the same day I posted it on a moribund page after only two people had voted if there isn't a blatant procedural problem. I think the fact that you just now gave all this explanation that nobody in the discussion did to support your close means that my review request was not borderline abusive as you said in your closing. Instead, it seems like something over which reasonable people might disagree, which isn't really a good use of speedy retain. I will look into examples of when featured articles are or are not delisted on account of their contentious titles. In the meantime, would you consider reopening it to allow more input? AgnosticAphid talk 01:11, 27 March 2015 (UTC)
  • You came to the talk page not eight hours ago, said "I'm going to bring this to FLRC over the title" (paraphrased, of course), and did not attempt to discuss the title with the editors who replied, or offer possibilities. That is very close to abusing the system (or, depending on who you ask, simply abusing the system), as it is forcing the article through a review process over a single point which could (and should) have been handled on the talk page. Disputing a single point is not the correct basis for an FLRC; we wouldn't do it over a misplaced comma or the inclusion/lack of an infobox, would we?
A speedy close does not have a minimum or maximum amount of time, but depends on the closing editor's consideration of the points. If Giants2008 (the only other editor in a position to close FLRCs, as Schro would have to recuse himself) disagrees with my close, he can reopen it. I, however, think it best that all parties discuss the matter on the list's talk page. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:20, 27 March 2015 (UTC)
I think it is contrary to the point of having a discussion for the closer to come along and use speedy close on the same day of the nomination unless there is some procedural problem. Especially since I didn't really get a chance to respond to your rationale. Also, I think your characterization is not really fair. There have been many past attempts to change the name or come up with a compromise name that have been pointless. A user suggested a compromise title based on another article in December, months after the requested move, only to be told there was no problem at all with the title and wouldn't he please find something useful to do with his time instead of rehashing pointless topics. I think it is unfair in that context to criticize me for the reason you did. To me, this is why a Speedy Close for non-obvious-procedural reasons is problematic. However, I will collect my thoughts before I draw any other non-interested editors in this. Still, I will again respectfully request that you revert your close. AgnosticAphid talk 01:31, 27 March 2015 (UTC)
  • I've already explained the procedural reasons, and my position remains the same. Indeed, it is not uncommon for speedy closes to occur within a day in processes which allow them (FAC, FLC, AFD, etc.), at the discretion of the closing editor. Please attempt to discuss the title on the talk page (as should have been done in the first place; the most recent detailed discussion was almost a year ago, and consensus can change), rather than continue this unfruitful line of inquiry. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:39, 27 March 2015 (UTC)
Okay, Crisco. I will propose another requested move. At least since it was at your suggestion I will know I did nothing wrong. But I would ask – is it truly less disruptive than just all agreeing it's only a good list with its current title? No matter. AgnosticAphid talk 01:46, 27 March 2015 (UTC)
  • Considering how strong feelings seem to be both ways... — Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:51, 27 March 2015 (UTC)

The Signpost – Volume 11, Issue 12 – 25 March 2015

Ariana Grande FLC

I'm not ignoring anything. I'm fully addressing you each and every time. I'm not perceiving anything, it's the bottom line truth. You can't say that a non-single can be a hit, then when I call you on it to give me an example, to then throw your toys out of the buggy and not do it and say I'm not willing to work with anyone. I think my contributions show that I have often worked with others. I have actually trimmed the lead down, not that you've noticed. I think that you use of "diatribe" is extremely misplaced; it's not me who started off being bitter, I think you will find that was you.  — ₳aron 09:46, 27 March 2015 (UTC)

  • Where, exactly, have you mentioned this, before I said goodbye? You only use the word "trim" once, in a carbon-copy of this post on my talk page, which was made after I said I had unwatchlisted the nomination. You do not use the word "remove", nor do you use the word "shorten". You have likewise not mentioned the comment about "pictured", whether it has been dealt with or not. It is not the reviewer's responsibility to watchlist the article being reviewed, especially when the nominator is actively making statements at the nomination (albeit statement about unrelated issues).
You have not attempted to work with me, but responded to everything with lengthy comments which generally do not deal with the meat of the problem, but seize on what you perceive to be inconsistencies in my posts. You have likewise attempted to disparage me on the talk pages of both Schro and Giants. All this you did before you trimmed the article (begrudgingly) not an hour before this, and that apparently only after Schro told you essentially the same thing. Had you actually worked with me instead of against me, the list would have been promoted by now.
You have responded to my every comment with hostility, and I can promise you that I will not reply to this nomination. Maybe in the future, after you've learned that sometimes necessary criticism is harsh, we might work collaboratively like we did on those GAs a couple of years back. Now, however, I'm not interested. Goodbye is goodbye. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 09:59, 27 March 2015 (UTC)
I made changes to the lead before you said you was taking the nomination off your watch list. You then said "goodbye", and then I responded in both places, because this conversation should take place in the nomination, and not here on your talk, which I have now been forced to do. You say I'm not willing to work with you, but you threw in the towel and had a strop and took it off your watch list. What has saying "trimmed" instead of "shortened" or "removed" got to do with anything? You're extremely hung up on word choice. I haven't mentioned anything about the picture because quite frankly that's a back seat issue right now, and one I also disagree with (I mention three names in the description, so yes I am right to say "pictured" because otherwise someone may not know who I'm referring to in the picture from the three names.) I said that I was concerned about your comments to the other two delegates, yes. Am I not allowed to do that? You admitted after me asking you multiple times that you had got something wrong, not that you apologized. I haven't responded with hostility every time. I think you will find that your first and original opposing comment was extremely hostile, and I replied very politely. Then you got all defensive and angry just because I didn't bow down. I'm sorry, I didn't realize you was someone to worship. I don't think you realize that everything you are accusing me of is exactly what you're doing yourself. "Had you actually worked with me instead of against me, the list would have been promoted by now," are you using your WP:CRYSTAL ball again? No, it wouldn't have been promoted by now; it wasn't before and it had 4 supports. Don't flatter yourself with thinking that your support would have been the gold ticket to getting a gold star. We (as a collective, not you and me) are supposed to be working together on Wikipedia on make it better, so no, being harsh is not the way forward. I'm very fond of the expression "It's not what you say, it's how you say it." You was completely negative in your first opposing comment and not positive at all. I didn't think you was like this, I'm quite disappointed in you as an editor. I'm not particularly enamored with working with you again, either. So the feeling is rather mutual.  — ₳aron 10:20, 27 March 2015 (UTC)
  • "I made changes to the lead before you said you was taking the nomination off your watch list." - I did not say that you made them after. I said you did not leave notification until after I said goodbye (which is true, none of the three alternative phrasings I mentioned were used). I said you did not actually trim the lead until after Schro said it was probably a good idea, which is completely true: his post suggesting the lead was too long (14:36 my time) and your removal of some excess text (16:12 my time).
In another spot you're misreading my post: "Don't flatter yourself with thinking that your support would have been the gold ticket to getting a gold star." The only reason I was looking at your nomination was because I was about to promote it, but then I saw an issue that the reviewers had missed. If that issue had been dealt with cooperatively, I'd have already closed the nomination as promoted. That's not crystal balling. That's kinda what a delegate should do: judge the quality of articles before closing a nomination as successful. At FAC, Ian and Graham do it every time, and (like in this case) they've been known to put nominations on hold or outright oppose otherwise successful nomination because of concerns. TRM was also known to do it at FLC
Anyways, I'm recusing myself from the closure, and Schro has too, so it's up to Giants. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 10:39, 27 March 2015 (UTC)

Long caption, small column

Looking at Template:POTD/2015-04-08 in my browser, the caption to the right of the photo is about 2.7 times the height of the image and 0.7 times the width. This looks pretty poor. If the caption is to stay at its present length, then moving it below the image as in Template:POTD/2015-04-09 would look much better. I would have boldly made the edit myself, but I can't see an easy way to do it except by changing the size= parameter to enlarge the image, and I assume there's a POTD policy to present any particular shape of image at a single standard size. Do your templates have an option to easily make this layout change? If so, I suggest using it on this one. If not, I suggest thinking about it. If you want to reply, please do so here on your page. If you want to do nothing, fine. --65.94.50.15 (talk) 21:23, 28 March 2015 (UTC)

  • I generally don't worry too much what something looks like at Template:POTD, as what shows on the main page is Template:POTD protected, which is formatted differently (Template:POTD limits the width of the column. Testing the latter template with preview, the text will end up formatted so that it takes up fewer rows than the image (at least on my 1366*768 monitor; on smaller monitors, it's possible that it won't). — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:24, 28 March 2015 (UTC)
  • Ah. Thanks. Maybe the formatting of Template:POTD should be changed to match the other one, then. --65.94.50.15 (talk) 04:58, 29 March 2015 (UTC)
  • Don't really consider it that much of a problem. It might be confusing to some people, but in the end the average reader doesn't see it. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 05:04, 29 March 2015 (UTC)

Primary article?

Crisco, we had a fairly inexperienced editor move Aquino to Aquino, Italy in order to give primary status to Corazon Aquino. The Aquino (disambiguation) page still seems to think that the Italian town is primary. This editor had also nominated eighteen articles to GAN right after trying, and failing, to nominate four at FAC, so this is someone both bold and lacking understanding in how Wikipedia works. Can you please take a look and do whatever seems appropriate? Many thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 01:26, 29 March 2015 (UTC)

Stubbed both. The imdb cast for Sesuatu differs for some reason to the Indonesian source. Do you know where I can find a comprehensive list of Indonesian films by year of release? I was thinking of making a list like List of Indonesian films of 1975 etc. A comprehensive list by year full of red links I think would at least set out the scope.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:37, 30 March 2015 (UTC)

DYK April Fool's

Crisco, the next empty preps are for April Fool's—we're currently running two sets a day, and have a ton of approved hooks. I recall that you've assembled sets in the past, and that we usually run more hooks per set than the regular number (right now 8 per set). Is this something you can tackle? I have taken the precaution of putting a comment in both Prep 1 and Prep 2 noting that the sets should be April Fool's hooks, in the hopes of avoiding someone building regular sets and having to undo them. Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 15:58, 29 March 2015 (UTC)

  • We should move to 3 sets for April Fools (back to 2 the following day). There's a ton of hooks on the AF page. Who handles that now? — Crisco 1492 (talk) 16:00, 29 March 2015 (UTC)
  • Off to bed. Will do in the morning, if I've got time. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 16:01, 29 March 2015 (UTC)
    • Any admin can modify DYK's update frequency. The file to edit is User:DYKUpdateBot/Time Between Updates. The page contains the number of seconds between updates and there is an editnotice showing the appropriate values for 6, 8, and 12 hour updates. For a clean change to 3 sets for just April 1 (8 hour updates), the file should be updated between 00:00 and 07:50 (UTC) on the 1st (DYKUpdateBot wakes up and checks for changes every 10 minutes) and then returned to its current value during the same window of time on the 2nd. I can perform the changes, but as you can see it is a fairly simple task and it would be nice to have a couple more admins familiar with the process. --Allen3 talk 23:06, 29 March 2015 (UTC)

I don't know that anyone is handling the April Fool's promotions in general, though, and I forget who took charge last year. BlueMoonset (talk) 23:45, 29 March 2015 (UTC)

Cretan War (205–200BC)

Thanks for your comments on the nomination page. I completely understand that as an old FA that the article requires some work in order for it to meet modern standards. Bearing in mind that the topic is rather obscure, I have gone through the article and added modern sources wherever possible to supplement the ancient ones. Hopefully this should reduce the reliance on the older sources and in doing so the number of citations have risen substantially.

Looking through the article, the only parts that I would say still have a major reliance on ancient sources are those pertaining to specific battles, particularly that at Chios. Unfortunately, most modern sources deem it unnecessary to analyse the details of these minor battles. I will continue to have a look at some sources in order to find some extra details if possible. I have written something similar on the candidacy page. Thanks, Kyriakos (talk) 23:08, 30 March 2015 (UTC)

There is a tradition of "ascetic warriors," yes. My compliments for your sources; if this was the standard everywhere, we'd have a lot less disputes. It's fascinating, this disdain for society; and yet, we're all dependent on it, also holy men. Compare it to St. Paul: "Am I not a worker for God? Don't I earn the pay of the worker for God?" April Fool's Day article selection and improvement cabal

There ought to be one. What do you think? @Emu War. ResMar 04:13, 1 April 2015 (UTC)

There's quite a few editors who would probably be interested. Prioryman usually contributes at least 3 DYKs, and it used to be that Parrot of Doom and Eric Corbett would get an article up and going (UK-based, but still good for April Fools). That hasn't happened recently, sadly. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 06:05, 1 April 2015 (UTC)
Yeah, I'm happy to participate. Who else would be up for it? Prioryman (talk) 07:21, 1 April 2015 (UTC)
Tirpitz_(pig) (another idea: Brits save German pig, then make bacon out of it) — Crisco 1492 (talk) 07:28, 1 April 2015 (UTC)
The trouble with maintaining an idea like this has to do with a broader problem on Wikipedia, the difficult of finding and maintaining collaboration on articles with other editors. I've put a lot of thought at it, for instance browsing through what WikiProject X hopes to do. This would be one of the best places to attempt to sustain something year-to-year, since it is correlated with the most important front page of the year. ResMar 13:30, 1 April 2015 (UTC)

    • BTW, Armbrust, I take it you agree with me going through the old FPs and cleaning them up (and running quite a few that were missed)? Thanks for fixing that GIF. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 08:04, 4 April 2015 (UTC)

Amphibian

It was suggested on the Amphibian talk page that the article should be proposed for Today's featured article. I mentioned April 25th as being a suitable date because it is "Save the frogs day", but that date is already allocated. However, I see that from April 26th onwards, dates have not yet been allocated so it might be possible to do a bit of date shuffling. What do you think? Cwmhiraeth (talk) 13:14, 4 April 2015 (UTC)

  • I was actually thinking the same thing, because of your edit to the prospective requests template. Gladly done. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 14:22, 4 April 2015 (UTC)
Thank you. I will edit the blurb and add a suitable image. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 17:38, 4 April 2015 (UTC)

Baturraden overview from ridge, Purwokerto

Hi Chris, I was looking at Baturraden overview from ridge, Purwokerto. Stunning. I wonder if perhaps the image could be re-processed to correct those pesky curved lines of the swimming pool. Just a thought. Kind regards, nagualdesign 02:11, 4 April 2015 (UTC)

  • I'll see what's possible. This is a fairly wide angle of view, so some curvature is to be expected. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 03:03, 4 April 2015 (UTC)
    • Nagualdesign, I've given it a shot... not sure I like it as much as there is still some distortion at the edges (at about 115 degrees, hard to avoid). — Crisco 1492 (talk) 04:16, 4 April 2015 (UTC)

I'm surprised that it's such a wide angle. Looks <90° to me! (pixel peeping) Yes, I suppose it's fairly impossible to avoid with that angle of view. Regards, nagualdesign 06:08, 4 April 2015 (UTC)

  • Nope, not that tight a shot! The one from the bridge might have been about 90, but this was much wider. Which do you prefer? — Crisco 1492 (talk) 06:10, 4 April 2015 (UTC)
I hadn't spotted the one from the bridge. Nice. Looks almost tilt-shift miniature at 100%. I think I prefer the wide shot, which definitely looked better before I asked you to meddle with it. The pool may look better when the whole scene is in view but on closer inspection the details have suffered, and hi-res panos are all about the details. *facepalm* Sorry for wasting your time. Regards, nagualdesign 23:52, 4 April 2015 (UTC)
  • Thought as much... agree, in such images the details are much, much more important than having perfectly straight lines. The problem with having landscape panoramas with human constructions, of course, is that straight lines end up getting curved...  — Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:06, 5 April 2015 (UTC)

Could you create a local page for this FP with the following content: {{Featured picture|M 81}}. (I got into a permission error when I tried.) Regards, Armbrust The Homunculus 16:02, 4 April 2015 (UTC)

Academy Awards or Oscars?

Hi there,

I would like to get your input as to whether all Academy Award-relate content on this encyclopedia should be changed the just say Oscar? There is a discussion going on at Talk:Academy Awards and it is unanimously opposed. I personally oppose the change because of encyclopedic naming purposes and to avoid confusion over ceremony dating.

Crisco, you nominated the infobox image for deletion on Commons; that image was used for the DYK nomination.

I took a look to see whether it seemed likely that the image would fly as a fair use one—while this wouldn't allow it to be used at DYK, the nomination could presumably proceed without the image—and noticed that the first image in the Gallery at the bottom of the article is also from the Met, and thus likely to be subject to the same deletion argument as you made for the infobox. (I'd imagine you're planning to nominate it.) While a single image of the the artwork might be able to be included in the article under a fair use claim, I can't imagine that a second image, this one a profile view, would be allowed as fair use.

I've put the DYK nomination on hold while this is sorted. Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 21:24, 5 April 2015 (UTC)

  • Any fair use images would fall afoul of WP:NFCC#1, as a free image could still be created. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:25, 5 April 2015 (UTC)

Hi, I was trying to help out by adding April Fools' Day hooks to WP:DYKSTATS. The hook that is recorded under Recent Additions is different from the hook listed on the talk page. Which one should I use? Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 22:42, 7 April 2015 (UTC)

  • I believe the hook which was removed from the main page (i.e. that in DYKSTATS) is the correct one. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:30, 7 April 2015 (UTC)
    • I'm sorry, I don't understand. There's nothing yet in DYKSTATS. Should I use the hook on the talk page or the hook under Recent additions? Yoninah (talk) 23:42, 7 April 2015 (UTC)
      • Whichever was archived in Recent Additions, I believe. Sorry, wrote that reply when I'd just woken up. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 08:00, 8 April 2015 (UTC)
