If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Joe Kasper requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://jcusports.com/sports/football/roster/coaches/joe-kasper/1153. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. For someone who started only two months ago, you've done excellent work in writing articles on Division I football teams and other topics. From my count, it seems all that's left in terms of Division I seasons missing articles for this year is four in FBS and 40 in FCS (out of 261 total teams). After you've completed doing that, you may be interested in Wikipedia:WikiProject College football/Season articles campaign. Thanks for your contributions! Notability of created articles

Please add more reliable sources to the articles you are creating or make sure there is enough of them before creating. A lot of these players probably have the sources for notability but they should be added to the article to avoid potential future deletion. Yankees10 01:08, 13 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

A few tips

Hi. Thanks for your articles recently on college/NFL players. A few tips:

  • In the infobox, if the position is two words, only capitalize the first - for example: Wide receiver, rather than Wide Receiver. And in the article, the position should always be spelled lowercase (for example: John Smith is an American football wide receiver...)
  • Dates should be spelled as May 3, not May 3rd.
  • Numbers under 10 should be spelled out - say, Beanie Fan caught four passes during the 2022 season, scoring two touchdowns (not Beanie Fan caught 4 pass during the 2022 season, scoring 2 touchdowns)

Otherwise, nice work! BeanieFan11 (talk) 20:40, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Alright thanks for the help, appreciate. Butters (talk) 21:06, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Friend!

I spotted a number of your player stub articles in the New Pages feed where I was reviewing things. You need to be careful posting up pieces on NFL Undrafted Free Agents unless they are documented with multiple pieces of published writing substantially about the subject since there is no "automatic notability" bestowed upon players who have not made an NFL roster and played a game. It is my belief that sourcing does actually exist for most such players, mind you, but one needs to dig up two or three such sources and make sure they are listed in the article or things are apt to come to grief through the deletion process.

I do not want to discourage you from your efforts, only to suggest "better fewer but better" is probably a strategy worth pursing. All the best, —tim /// Carrite (talk) 11:52, 8 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. I see above that this is already happening. The best way to protect your work is to source out your work with multiple independently-published references of presumed reliability.

May 2023

Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give a page a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases for registered users, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 02:21, 14 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Butters.From.SouthPark,
Please do not cut and paste content from one article to a blank page. This create multiple versions of articles which we can't have for attribution purposes. It divides up an article page history. If you disagree with an article being moved to Draft space, then please move it back, do not start a new version in main space. It's preferred that you work on the Draft space version until you are ready to submit it to WP:AFC but if you want to work in main space, then return the article to main space, do not start a new version. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 02:31, 14 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Pages being moved to draftspace

Why are some of my pages being moved to the draftspace when they are clearly noteable people. User:BeanieFan11 Butters (talk) 12:59, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • That user has way to strict notability interpretations and seems to dislike sports, so whenever he see an article in that topic which doesn't meet his personal notability interpretations, he moves it to draftspace (which is actually against policy) - you can let me know if he does it again or you could move it back yourself if you'd like. Just letting you know that when a page is moved to draftspace, you shouldn't recreate the page the exact same way in mainspace, as the page then loses its history. Rather, it should just be moved back if you think it was incorrectly put there. BeanieFan11 (talk) 14:49, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
okay how do I do that? Butters (talk) 16:57, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It seems that you did that for Tanner McCalister here. Basically there should be near the top right of the screen, next to "view history", something saying "More" - hover over that and it should say "move" - click that, then change it to article space and click move page. • @Onel5969: You really need to stop with your non-policy based moves to draftspace – Thomas and Durden most certainly are ready for mainspace. WP:DRAFTIFY says to draftify only if it meets one of the following three: it does not meet WP:STUB; or it would have very little chance of survival at AfD; or it meets any speedy deletion criterion. It needs more in-depth coverage about the subject itself, with citations from reliable, independent sources in order to show it meets WP:GNG. It should have at least three, to be safe. And please remember that interviews, as primary sources, do not count towards GNG.(?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.Onel5969 TT me 11:25, 19 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Information icon This should not have been returned to mainspace without improvement. This sort of action can be viewed as disruptive and will often result in the item being proposed for deletion. The post above requests that it be submitted for review, but this has not been done. The item appears to be about a non-notable athlete with little if any, career to speak of; it is still subject to new page patrol and may be an AFD candidate. @Eagleash: I agree with Butters here and think this was actually an inappropriate move by Onel5969. The policy on draftification states that it only should be used when the page is "obviously unready for mainspace" and meets one of the following three: it does not meet WP:STUB; or it would have very little chance of survival at AfD; or it meets any speedy deletion criterion. – as for criterion one, the article is not a stub, for criterion two, it has a very good chance in my opinion of surviving at AFD, and for three, it absolutely does not meet the speedy deletion criterion. BeanieFan11 (talk) 15:32, 19 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@BeanieFan11: I am uncertain that it could meet WP:SPORTCRIT but as you will have seen, I left the item in article space where it is still subject to NPP. It should not have been returned to main with no improvement or effort to improve and without completing the review process. Eagleash (talk) 16:44, 19 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Eagleash: Normally I would agree that it could be disruptive to move a draftified article back with no improvements; however in this case (and for a lot of other cases involving Onel5969) the article is in perfectly acceptable shape as-is and never should have been moved to draftspace in the first place - also, for sources to show notability: PFN, SI, HERO Sports, AL.com, Charlotte Observer, Winston-Salem Journal, etc. (I had actually planned on doing his article prior to the draft but didn't find enough time to). BeanieFan11 (talk) 16:52, 19 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The can you please get @Onel5969 to stop moving my pages to the draftspace Butters (talk) 16:47, 19 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

They do meet notabilty though Butters (talk) 19:43, 19 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No, they don't. For example, this particular one has zero in-depth coverage from independent, reliable sources. Routine sports coverage, stuff from the teams, leagues, or organizations they belong to, articles from school newspapers, none of that counts towards notability. You need to learn what sourcing is needed to pass WP:GNG. It was explained to you above. These are tagged for improvement. You ignore the tags and do not work on them, then are shocked when, without improvement, they are moved to draft. If you add in-depth coverage from independent, reliable, secondary sources, I'll be more than happy to take another look at them. Onel5969 TT me 15:04, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for creating 2024 Houston Roughnecks season. However, a draft already exists, so you created an article over draft. This requires history merging, which is a troublesome procedure for admins. Therefore, please check if a draft exists and improve the draft instead of creating it over draft to avoid inconvenience. Thank you. Timothytyy (talk) 05:55, 4 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

MLB Draft picks

Some of the non-first round draft picks do not need notability standards, I would recommend working on these articles in drafts and not publishing directly to the mainspace until GNG is established (generally I think 4 refs should do it). Over the past couple of years there has been more of an uptick in editors keen on heightening the notability threshold for athletes and nominating them for deletion. I'll try to add some refs to the recent articles created, but there are some draft articles on a few of the second rounders where you can also find them. Creating redirects

Hi there. I see you've created a number of redirects from minor league baseball player names to their associated team lists, but without adding any content to those lists. This isn't a productive activity, because it will frustrate readers when they find we don't have information about these players. Please don't create that kind of redirect if you don't intend to expand the lists. Thanks! - Eureka Lott 19:41, 22 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

College football players

Hello Butters.From.SouthPark,

Hope you're doing well. Please do not guess a player's place of birth unless it is explicitly stated in a source. This puts a lot of misinformation on Wikipedia. A player's "hometown" listed in their college bios is very often not the same place they were born. I was born in Arizona but my hometown is 350 miles away. Other people were born in one city but grow up and attend high school in a nearby city.

Please be more careful about this. Sometimes, their college bios will state their place of birth in a "Personal" section near the bottom. For example, Jaydon Grant's Oregon State bio clearly states he was born in Portland, not West Linn. JTtheOG (talk) 02:02, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. Please double-check your spelling as well. There are multiple typos in the articles you publish. I suggest a free tool like Grammarly to help. Lastly, only capitalize the first word in each section title (College career, not College Career). Happy editing! JTtheOG (talk) 02:02, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

College football players

Hey Butters,

Just a reminder that the city where a player attends high school is not always where they were raised. Unless you have a source confirming where they grew up, it's better to just state where they attended high school. See the edits I made to Jaylin Williams (American football) as an example. He was born in Mississippi and lived in three other states, even attending two different high schools in two states. Cheers, JTtheOG (talk) 21:25, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Got it thanks for the help Butters (talk) 01:05, 25 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Some of these players are also not notable quite yet. Bleacher Report, 247, Maxpreps, etc should not be used to pass WP:GNG.-- Yankees10 23:13, 27 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I believe they are with the sports illustrated Butters (talk) 23:56, 27 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
There are also multiple noteble refrences Butters (talk) 00:26, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Except they are not. Please find more reliable sources before both moving the drafts back or creating these articles.-- Yankees10 00:44, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It appears you've been asked numerous times on your talk page here (including by me in April) to provide more reliable sources before creating articles.-- Yankees10 00:50, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
There are enough reliable sources Butters (talk) 00:50, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Also just for a baseline what is considered a relible and a non relible source Butters (talk) 00:51, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Newspapers are reliable sources. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Online Athens are good sources for Georgia players for example. Edwards has literally nothing from them. Look at the sources I have at Chop Robinson' article for example. All extremely reliable newspaper sources. Edwards does not have sources like this and I'm almost certain most the random players you created also don't. It should be kept at a draft until more reliable sources are added but you are continuing to just revert.-- Yankees10 01:05, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Edwards does have a reference from Online Athens and the Atlanta Journal Consistution, and multiple from Sports Illustrated, the Moultire Observer, CBS Sports, and The Telegraph, so how come those are not notable Butters (talk) 01:09, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Also instead od making them drafts can you nominate them for delation and make the people vote on it Butters (talk) 01:10, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Um most of those are either routine, short little mentions of him, or in some cases not even directly about Edwards. I mean come on the CBS "sources" are just box scores that mention Edwards a few times.-- Yankees10 01:13, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
for the Online Athens and the Atlanta Journal Consistution it talks about him and how he commited for Georgia and is about him, and I would suggest you nominate them for deltion and let the people decide Butters (talk) 01:16, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Those are only two sources and lean more towards routine if anything. I'm not going to move those two articles back to drafts nor am I going nominate them for deletion because they may become notable during the season (which is literally the point of drafts for articles not quite ready but whatever). Just be better with sourcing in the future. Not every single decent college football player is notable and deserves/needs an article.-- Yankees10 01:22, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
ok but what players tend to be more notable Butters (talk) 01:23, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Players that when you google them numerous links to reliable newspapers (sources) that are exclusively written about said player. Those are the ones that are notable. Most college starting QB's, All-American's and overall star players are almost certainly going to be notable and have many many sources.-- Yankees10 01:27, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You are literally doing it again. Stop creating these articles when they are clearly not ready.-- Yankees10 05:48, 10 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Seriously what is your justification Decorian Patterson? Literally every single one of those sources is not directly about him.-- Yankees10 05:52, 10 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I guess I can see the reaseon for deleating the other two pages, but Will Sheppard is definitely notable Butters (talk) 11:13, 10 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That's incredibly debatable. School newspapers and random college football blogs don't count as reliable sources.-- Yankees10 18:18, 10 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

College Football Pages

@BeanieFan11 are the page Daijun Edwards and Terrion Arnold notable Butters (talk) 01:18, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • They both seem somewhat borderline (on the edge of being notable/not) - I don't have a strong opinion right now but make sure to be careful in what articles you create - try to get at least three in-depth articles on the players from good sources (usually a few hundred words total focusing on the player is alright - as for what types of sources, Yankees10 was mostly correct in that newspaper sources like the Atlanta Journal-Constitution are good ones; other ones mentioned by Yankees as being less-than-great such as 247Sports and Bleacher Report can contribute slightly I believe, but are not given nearly as much weight in discussions - while its usually ok to have them in the article, they shouldn't be the best sources you've got). Note that you should try to be a little more neutral in writing recaps about the games played. Rather than something like Beanie had a stellar performance with 12 tackles and two interceptions, which helped the team defeat their rival Beansville State you could say something like Beanie helped the team defeat their rival Beansville State with a performance that included 12 tackles and two interceptions. That way we're still mentioning that he helped the team win and mentioning his stats, but not saying that he had a "stellar" or "good" performance.

Style issues

Butters.From.SouthPark, I appreciate all your work in recent months on college football articles. There are some recurring style issues that I want to address. As on Brashard Smith, you have a tendency to use the subjective mood ("would") inappropriately. If something happed in the past, just write about it in a normal past tense. The narrative of historical documentaries often uses the subjective mood to draw the viewer into the present moment (e.g. "the Germans would lose the Battle of Stalingrad"), but for our purposes here, that form is clunky and inappropriate; see WP:INTOTHEWOULDS. Second, linking to a college football program and piping to the name of the university, e.g. [[Florida Gators football|University of Florida]], is poor, Easter-eggy form; see MOS:EGG. Address the university or the football program, but don't write one and link to the other. Finally, in infoboxes, the place of birth for American locales should end in ", U.S.". Jweiss11 (talk) 18:05, 14 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Yes I was just coming here to say the part about the "would". You've created a few articles since this comment and you for whatever reason continue to use the word unnecessarily.-- Yankees10 01:08, 20 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, so what should I say? Butters (talk) 02:38, 20 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Just generally try to avoid using the word "would"; instead of "Beanie Fan would throw for 289 yards and four touchdowns in his debut", you could say something like "Beanie Fan threw for 289 yards and four touchdowns in his debut". BeanieFan11 (talk) 23:37, 28 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Copy-pasting from drafts into articles

Hi, note that generally you shouldn't copy-paste the content from a draft and start it as a new article - like you did with Quinyon Mitchell / Draft:Quinyon Mitchell - as then the page history is erased. Thanks. BeanieFan11 (talk) 23:35, 28 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

My bad I won't do it again Butters (talk) 02:09, 29 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Quinyon Mitchell

How is this person notable yet? Why are you continuing to just ignore what "significant coverage" is? Why did you just straight up copy/paste from the draft without moving it? Yankees10 23:42, 28 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@BeanieFan11: As the draft creator I believe you'll agree with me on the first part.-- Yankees10 23:43, 28 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Yankees10: I think there's a weak case to notability that could be made, although I think it'd still be best remaining in draft - the Toledo Blade has a lot of coverage of Mitchell and then there's some other brief pieces of coverage on him from various outlets, mostly in discussing him as a draft prospect - he seems to be a very promising player so I'm surprised there hasn't been more coverage of him - I had started the draft with the intention of expanding it once more coverage came but User:Dogloverr16 and Butters worked on it today and put it in mainspace. BeanieFan11 (talk) 00:35, 29 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
He had multiple sources about him Butters (talk) 02:10, 29 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes from literally one source, The Toledo Blade. Random sites like this are not reliable sources. I don't know what is so hard to grasp about this.-- Yankees10 04:40, 29 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
their are multiple sources from the toldeo blade, then their is sports illustrtaed and nfl draft buzz, Butters (talk) 11:51, 29 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Come on man, you are not seriously calling "NFL draft buzz" a reliable source. I literally explained to you in August what reliable sources are and you still I guess don't get it.-- Yankees10 23:24, 29 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Also thats not Sports Illustrated. Thats FanNation which just happens to be owned by SI. It is a blog and has questionable reliability.-- Yankees10 23:29, 29 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I did not know the sports illustrated but I have been told nfl draft buzz is a reliable source and seen it used as a reliable source Butters (talk) 23:49, 29 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It's not. It's just a random NFL Draft site. There has been many of them over the years, nothing special about this one.-- Yankees10 00:06, 30 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The article 2024 Ohio State Buckeyes football team has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable; this is nothing but a schedule of upcoming events - anything specific to the team can be added to Ohio State Buckeyes

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. I think it might be a little too soon to start articles on the 2024 seasons, considering the 2023 ones haven't ended yet - probably for now the best option is to redirect it to the main OSU page and then in a few months restore it. BeanieFan11 (talk) 15:45, 29 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

2024 college articles

Butters, the general rule of thumb is to await until the completion of a college football season before creating articles for next season. So we should wait until after the College Football Playoff National Championship on January 8 before creating 2024 season articles. In the meantime, there's lot of work to do on the 2023 season and all the seasons before. Thanks, Jweiss11 (talk) 21:12, 29 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Alright what is their I can work on from this season? Butters (talk) 00:07, 30 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The 2023 team season articles could use updates to the lead sections to reflect the performance of the team as the season comes to an end. For example, see my last two edits to 2023 Purdue Boilermakers football team. Jweiss11 (talk) 02:10, 30 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
