Thought you should know that the IA Bot isn't working properly at the moment and many of your IA Bot requests aren't doing anything. See here: https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T321740 Kylesenior (talk) 23:50, 31 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

hi there, I am going to undo the #IABot action that archived the links on the "Johannes van Damme" page, as when you click them the Way Back machine cant find it, must not be allowed to be archived from that site ? its a Singapore government website that archives newspapers going back over 100 years, free to the public, so dont worry about it disappearing it will be there forever, thanks ! Adding useless archive links to Rum

Hi! You added some archive links to Rum yesterday. However, some of those are kinda useless, because they only archive the OED login page, instead of the actual entry. I've removed them here, but I'm not sure what the next steps are. Have you added archive OED links to many more articles? And in the future, can you make sure that useless links like that aren't added, or would that be a significant hindrance in the work? I'm not familiar with IABot, so I don't know the process here. Is there some way to automatically prevent IABot from adding those links? --rchard2scout (talk) 13:03, 2 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for November 10

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Hector (given name), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Brill. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Hello BorgQueen, I hope your doing well. Thank you for requesting the Citation bot edits on various of my 2022 in [country] articles. I made those pages some time ago before I really knew to add dates to citations and have been meaning to go back and fix them, so I really appreciate it. ArbCom 2022 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:21, 29 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

redundant groups

Hi BorgQueen, I removed some account flags on your account that were overlapping with your +sysop flag. This helps statistics, and in some cases may prevent oddities due to group css collisions. This should have no impact on anything you do. Notably, +autopatrolled was not removed as it is no longer redundant. Best regards, — xaosflux Talk 14:53, 5 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Translation

Hello! Strange request here, but an article about me and my Wikipedia work has been promoted to Good article status at English Wikipedia and nominated for similar status at Spanish Wikipedia. I'm curious if you have any interest in translating the entry for Korean Wikipedia or other projects?

Figured I'd ask since your profile suggests you do translation work. Either way, happy editing! ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:00, 8 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I've heard about you lol. No, I'm not really into BLP articles. BorgQueen (talk) 19:32, 8 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

2001

Looking over 2001, I think we've brought it to the point where it's worth talking about a GA nomination. The Culture section still needs a little work, and the article should have one more go-over to check for globalization issues, but other than that, it seems to broadly cover the year in line with the Good Article criteria. I've also added broad summaries of health and politics trends in addition to simply listing key events. I think the use of summary style writing is the strongest advantage that 2001 has over other year articles at the moment. What are your thoughts? Thebiguglyalien (talk) 21:32, 9 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, it's worth a try. BorgQueen (talk) 22:53, 9 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If I can ask your advice, how should I be approaching the discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Years? It's apparent that there's a years-long pattern of disruptive WP:STONEWALLING and WP:OWNERSHIP of these articles that's preventing them from being improved (and some less than honest behavior in the discussion), but I really don't think a flame war will resolve that. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 14:28, 17 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
How about Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests? BorgQueen (talk) 14:39, 17 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Are there no intermediate steps? I feel we're past the point where a compromise is possible, but I don't want to escalate any more than I have to. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 15:43, 17 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I have no other idea. BorgQueen (talk) 15:55, 17 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Malahai

On 6 January 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Malahai, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the malahai (example pictured) served as a protective helmet, even though it is a fur hat? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Malahai. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Malahai), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. A barnstar for you!

The DYK Barnstar
Morning BorgQueen, just thought I'd send you a quick kudos for all the hard work you've been doing on DYK in recent days/weeks, it's great to see lots of different people participating there in the different processes and your work is much appreciated. And I hope you don't feel I'm treading on your toes, as I've been looking through some of the pending queues in the past day or two... as I said in the chat yesterday, I'm probably a bit more anal about some of those things than others are, but really it's just a case of making sure we're giving the best and most accurate information for our readers, who are the ultimate important thing here. Checking all the hooks can get a bit time-consuming, but with lots of us on the case going forward, nobody should end up having to do too much. Cheers, and happy editing  — Amakuru (talk) 11:33, 9 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

12 years of, um, progress?

I agree with you that wikipedia has changed a lot in the past 12 years. In some ways for the better, but not in all. We're paying more attention to quality, both in terms of good writing style and making sure everything is correct and verifiable. On the other hand, we seem to have grown a generation of wikipedians who are more into rules than actually getting stuff done. I find more and more somebody I've never heard of is quoting chapter and verse of some policy I've never heard of, and refusing to accept WP:IAR as a valid way of life. Oh well, I'm glad you're back and I'm glad you're picking up so much of the load at DYK. -- RoySmith (talk) 15:06, 9 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@RoySmith: I agree with you. Lol. But oh well, it's probably a natural progress. Look at America... from its Wild West days to what it is now. :-D BorgQueen (talk) 15:09, 9 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I was somewhat starstruck when I saw you return to WT:DYK – I was thinking "BorgQueen? that BorgQueen? Left-DYK-twelve-years-ago-and-still-comfortably-holds-the-record-for-most-edits-to-prep-1 BorgQueen?" theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (she/her) 02:06, 11 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Oof – my virtual hugs to you. I don't remember you, I joined in 2021 – your reputation precedes you, though :) While you were making your last pre-break edits to DYK, I was trying to figure out which end(s) of a pencil shouldn't go up my nose – I was, like, five years old? theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (she/her) 02:14, 11 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

tags on the bottom prep

I added a little tag to WP:PSHAW that warns a user when they try to promote to the bottom prep – maybe that's easier than having to re-mark the hooks with every new prep? (yes, this is a shameless plug, PSHAW will make promoting easier I promise) theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (she/her) 02:45, 11 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

There has been ample discussion about the photograph of Livio Castiglioni, and there is also a version of the file here. There are several other open discussions about the matter on Commons and elsewhere. With this in mind, it was surprising to see it deleted just now. Would you please review and consider reverting? I don't know what you mean. SL93 (talk) 22:37, 14 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. Nevermind. Perhaps I need more coffee. Lol sorry. BorgQueen (talk) 22:38, 14 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The close paraphrasing cannot be changed - the years, his degrees, the colleges, and the names of what he participated in. Pinging RoySmith for thoughts. SL93 (talk) 22:41, 14 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I hope I'm not wrong about close paraphrasing, but I will ping Nikkimaria in case they are interested in looking. If not, that is fine too. SL93 (talk) 23:02, 14 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I definitely see where the concern is coming from, but I think it's largely passable. Terms like "mental testing" are probably worth quoting though - it's not clear what that is supposed to mean so would be hard to reword. Nikkimaria (talk) 23:10, 14 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Very well. Thanks @Nikkimaria. BorgQueen (talk) 23:13, 14 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Moving my hook at DYK

Hello BorgQueen, hope all is well. Just out of interest, how come you moved my CLK GTR hook from Queue 6 to another prep area? Thank you for your time. X750. Spin a yarn? Articles I've screwed over? 18:11, 24 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@X750: Oh, your Mercedes-Benz article has no problem. It's just that we've had a Mercedes-Benz article as a lead hook with an image the other day (and it did garner a lot of clicks! Congratulations.) so I didn't want to run another again so soon. But you won't have to wait for long! BorgQueen (talk) 19:40, 24 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ah okay cool, that totally makes sense. Wouldn't want anyone to think we're sponsored by Mercedes-Benz haha. Cheers for the explanation. X750. Spin a yarn? Articles I've screwed over? 20:04, 24 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@X750: Btw I've tweaked the hook per this suggestion. BorgQueen (talk) 20:11, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I've been thinking about this. How about {{tq|that... upon entering production in 1998, the Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR was named the world's most expensice production car by the Guiness Book of World Records, a record that stood till 2015? X750. Spin a yarn? Articles I've screwed over? 21:45, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
A bit convoluted, don't you think? BorgQueen (talk) 21:49, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
How about either of these: the Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR was the world's most expensive production car from 1998 to 2015? The "world's" bit implies it is certified by Guiness. Or: How about ... that upon entering production in 1998, the Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR was named the most expensive production car by the Guinness Book of World Records?
... that in 1998, the Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR received the Guinness World Record for most expensive production car? Credit to PMC for the former, Epicgenius for the latter two. X750. Spin a yarn? Articles I've screwed over? 23:52, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Done. BorgQueen (talk) 23:58, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Korean sources

Greetings BorgQueen. I saw you are listed at the WP:Local Embassy as a speaker of Korean. I was wondering if I could enlist your help.

I've been communicating with the user Jang Won Lim. He is a declared paid editor and employee of a company called "Action Square". He has translated the article about this company on Korean Wikipedia (ko:액션스퀘어) into English here: User:Jang Won Lim/Action Square. Unfortunately, all the sources used are in Korean, and I am not a Korean speaker. I am finding it difficult to evaluate whether these are reliable sources, and therefore if the company is notable enough for inclusion here. Would you be able to have a look? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated - thank you. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 05:36, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Drm310: It seems to be a notable company to me, yes. Its Korean Wikipedia page says that its mobile game Blade was a huge hit and won the presidential award. The sources do confirm that. BorgQueen (talk) 05:44, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
And yes, the sources are mostly reliable I'd say. BorgQueen (talk) 05:45, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You approved my DKY article Religious significance of rice in India listed on 20 January. Thanks for that. It was my first after about 7 years when I had retired from DYK. @Nvvchar: Not that I'm aware of. Sometimes it just takes time. But if you're concerned, you might want to ask at Wikipedia talk:Did you know. BorgQueen (talk) 15:53, 28 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Nvvchar: The nomination is currently listed at Template talk:Did you know/Approved – from there, a prep builder will close the nomination and put it in prep. theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (she/her) 23:28, 28 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The DYK promoter dunce cap

Since we're apparently "high priests" or something, I thought we should have a hat that reflects our prestige, nobility, piety, and judgement. What do you think? :P theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (she/her) 00:37, 10 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

input

Hey, BQ! Got here from WikiProject Food and drink list of participants. I'm working on the redlinks at List of James Beard America's Classics, an award which I think indicates the recipient is quite likely notable. Picked out a bunch of restaurants owned by Black women to start with, moved three drafts to article space yesterday, but now I'm at User:Valereee/Corinne's Place, and it's less clear. In your opinion is the award itself enough to get the restaurant over the hump? It seems clearly notable within the Camden/Philadelphia area and within the state. (To any talk page stalkers: please comment and feel free to edit the userspace draft, especially if you can get to any of the paywalled sources in the Further reading). Valereee (talk) 16:47, 28 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Valereee. I guess it's kinda borderline notable--perhaps would barely survive an AfD...? I'm not familiar with that award so can't really tell with any degree of certainty. BorgQueen (talk) 16:52, 28 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks anyway! Valereee (talk) 16:56, 28 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Valereee Have taken the liberty of expanding. IMO, more than enough WP:SUSTAINED in-depth coverage on the business over decades to satisfy WP:NCORP. I say ship it! Cielquiparle (talk) 04:24, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, @Cielquiparle! Valereee (talk) 12:03, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Cielquiparle since you seem to be able to expand anything... would you like to try Irradiation? It's a specialized area I admit, but we're writing at a very elementary level anyway and the article needs some help. BorgQueen (talk) 18:29, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately way outside my field. Cielquiparle (talk) 18:36, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Cielquiparle and @Valereee: I'm thinking about expanding Faithfulness, which is surprisingly a stub! Let me know if you're interested... (but perhaps it should be merged with Fidelity?) BorgQueen (talk) 02:05, 28 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like a merge makes sense and would probably be the best first move, and frankly I don't think I'd even bother with a move discussion.
Philosophy isn't an area I work in much, so probably not for me, but I'd be happy to do a gnomish run-through once it's been improved. Valereee (talk) 10:57, 28 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Really? Fidelity made me laugh so hard because of high fidelity, low fidelity, etc. Not much to do with the "faithfulness" in the other page. I seriously would not merge them even if both require clean up, or a complete rethink. Cielquiparle (talk) 06:14, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Umm. Ok... BorgQueen (talk) 08:08, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Cielquiparle actually yeah, Fidelity talks about several different things that aren't related. I mean, Faithfulness has nothing to with audio and electronics, right? BorgQueen (talk) 08:16, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Unless you really love your Beats by Dre. Cielquiparle (talk) 08:27, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Promotion

Thank you for promoting hooks. The two a day pace is stressful and I was hoping for a break. You are like Manna from Heaven. Bruxton (talk) 18:11, 20 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Cyrtodactylus santana hook

Hi BorgQueen, with regards to Template:Did you know/Preparation area 2, I feel the changes to the Cyrtodactylus santana hook remove its purpose. It was created after a reviewer asked for something more hooky, and the complete tonal shift has removed the hookiness entirely. Best, CMD (talk) 01:16, 21 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Chipmunkdavis The thing is the phrase wasn't in the article. If you're willing to edit the article to match the hook, I'm happy to restore it. BorgQueen (talk) 01:19, 21 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The precise phrasing isn't in the article because the article maintains a more encyclopaedic tone. However, the information within the phrasing is the same as that present in the article. CMD (talk) 01:22, 21 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Chipmunkdavis: very well. I've restored it. I just feel the phrase deviates a little too far from the article's, but I won't insist further. BorgQueen (talk) 01:29, 21 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

prep building

Hey there, BorgQueen! Thanks for all the work you've been doing here as of late :) I just wanted to note that in general, admins are discouraged from promoting sets they've built in prep; takes two to close a nomination, I suppose. theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (she/her) 17:06, 21 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Theleekycauldron Well, that doesn't make sense as no one else is doing it on a regular basis, and we're on a hectic schedule, don't you think? BorgQueen (talk) 17:15, 21 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@RoySmith, Bruxton, and Valereee: Some input please? Am I really supposed to sit still after building preps, fully knowing no one is coming to help anytime soon and while we're doing two-updates a day? (None of the hooks in those preps were reviewed or nominated by me, btw.) BorgQueen (talk) 17:24, 21 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You are doing great work. I suppose there are enough admins that you would not need to promote sets you have built to queues. I love that you and @Valereee: have been promoting. I am almost locked up in that I cannot promote my own reviews and articles so I have to be judicious with my own promoting. Bruxton (talk) 17:30, 21 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Bruxton, that used to happen all the time to Cwm, who was a prodigious nominator. What we did was tell other prep builders that since Cwm has already touched many, many hooks, please look for Cwm nom'd/reviewed hooks to promote, because she can't. I'd open a section and ping the other prep builders about that. They'll immediately get it. Valereee (talk) 17:34, 21 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It's a problem. Edit to add: The fact there are so few people working at DYK that an admin who has built a prep feels like they are obligated to promote that prep if no one else steps up reasonably quickly is the problem, not the fact BorgQueen felt that way. Oh jeez, and of course it's a problem she felt that way, she shouldn't have to feel that way. Ugh, not striking on all cylinders, here. For me, if it happens to be a prep that contains a hook I nominated or reviewed, and someone else moved to prep, no problem. If it's a prep I swapped a couple of hooks into or made a few edits to, no problem. If I built the entire set, like I just did with P3, I wouldn't move to queue.
My basic philosophy is that someone will be along, and if they aren't...well, I consider volunteer work that no one but me considers important enough to do might just be unimportant for me to do. Someone will be along, or it's not important to the rest of the project. Valereee (talk) 17:31, 21 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with leeky that the initial verification tick, the promotion to a prep set, and the subsequent promotion to the queue should all be done by different people. More eyes on something means more chances to find problems. On the no one is coming to help anytime soon issue, I look at the queue status often. Most of the time, we've got 6 or 7 filled queues, so there's nothing for me to do. If it gets down 5 or so, I'll process a set. We've also got eager new recruit Aoidh who is doing a great job. So my suggestion would be to be a little more patient about jumping to fill the last empty queue slot :-) -- RoySmith (talk) 17:34, 21 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
PS, when I started at DYK, I was all over the place doing initial reviews and building prep sets. And then I found I had my hands on so many ready-for-prime-time prep sets, I couldn't move them to the queue myself. My solution to that was to just concentrate on doing prep->queue promotions so I didn't run into self-conflicts. -- RoySmith (talk) 17:37, 21 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That's great! Now I got some free time to do something else. BorgQueen (talk) 17:39, 21 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ayup. Valereee (talk) 17:41, 21 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Speaking of which... @RoySmith and Valereee: could you please check Q3, 4, 5, which I built and moved? In the principle of more eyes. BorgQueen (talk) 17:44, 21 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'll do Q3. Valereee (talk) 17:56, 21 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! BorgQueen (talk) 17:57, 21 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Cielquiparle: I was! Btw, the curretly oldest approved hook is something about COVID-19. Can you look into it? I wasn't sure if it was the best hook they could come up with. BorgQueen (talk) 15:41, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I thought so! I like your prep sets. It's like each person has a distinct style. Cielquiparle (talk) 16:34, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That's interesting that you should notice that! I've felt that way, too. Valereee (talk) 16:38, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I should build prep occasionally then, but right now I hope someone else will clear the oldest hooks first... they've been waiting for a long time. BorgQueen (talk) 16:41, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Old hooks are often so daunting...usually the reason they're old is that there've been pages of discussion and argument. Valereee (talk) 16:44, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Although to be fair, most of the oldest ones right now, that's not the problem. But the oldest ones are only 5-6 weeks old, too. I would have thought most of those would be easy to fit in. Valereee (talk) 16:49, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Valereee please see Template:Did you know nominations/Coli Saco. A BLP hook mentioning COVID-19... is it really OK for Main Page? BorgQueen (talk) 16:51, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
On its face I don't see it as a BLP issue if the sources are reliable...I don't know these sources. Is your concern that it's a BLP privacy issue, or just something that might have negative IRL consequences for this real live person? Valereee (talk) 17:03, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see that it's been discussed at dyk talk? Maybe it should be? Valereee (talk) 17:04, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
OK I'll open a discussion. BorgQueen (talk) 17:05, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, a privacy issue, and perhaps possible UNDUE. BorgQueen (talk) 17:05, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
And I've asked for some additional ALTs at the nom. Although frankly I can understand why this is the one the nom came up with, it's really the only interesting thing in the article to someone who isn't interested in football. Valereee (talk) 17:10, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Redirecting species to genera

Please refrain from creating redirects from species to genera, as you did with Hymenaea oblongifolia. People are far less likely to ever create the article if there is a bluelink. Instead, please put in a request at places such as WP:WikiProject Plants/Article requests. Or just ask me. Abductive (reasoning) 00:40, 9 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Abductive: (talk page stalker) Erm, I'm not sure I agree with this line of reasoning. Wikipedia should be for our readers, and a redirect is helpful for them. If volunteers want to make their work on Wikipedia easier, that's for them to do on their own time, with their own resources – for example, by modifying their common.css to include the following, which will make their redirects a lovely shade of green:
.mw-body-content a.external {color: #b0048b}
.mw-body-content a.external:visited {color: #6e0152}
theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (she/her) 00:45, 9 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The guys at WP:WikiProject Plants have indicated their displeasure at the practice. I suspect that if a user were to attempt to mass-create such redirects they would find themselves at WP:ANI. Abductive (reasoning) 01:37, 9 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm troubled by the notion that WikiProject Plants gets to write de facto redirect policy, but rest assured, I myself won't be venturing down that road anytime soon :) theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (she/her) 01:41, 9 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Question

Would you mind explaining why you made this comment? The whole page was one elaborate contrivance after another, ending in a desperate challenge to a good source, as no other tripwire could be found. So after twelve years and 325 DYK hooks I doubt if I shall be making any more DYK contributions. Moonraker (talk) 22:29, 10 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Aulus Vibenna

Hello BorgQueen, the copy of the fresco of Aulus Vibenna in the DYK hook is not restored, but a facsimile, reproducing its state before the damage caused by air circulation. In the 19th century, when most tombs were opened, it was noticed that the paintings faded quickly after opening, so painters were used to make a facsimile. The only trick used was to wet the fresco with turpentine to brighten the colours and see them better (they copied by torchlight). I put a source about that in the article (altough actually this would belong to the Francois tomb article). Bye, Alex2006 (talk) 05:03, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Oh OK. Give me some time as I just woke up. Lol. @Alessandro57 BorgQueen (talk) 10:31, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, I just hope you are not in California. :-) Anyway, I would substitute "restored" with "facsimile", or something like that... I am going to lunch now, and I'll drink an espresso for you too. :-) Alex2006 (talk) 10:46, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Alessandro57 I've changed the caption to Copy of the François Tomb fresco. I'm not convinced that it needs to say facsimile, as we normally keep it concise and simple. BorgQueen (talk) 12:12, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Also copy is ok. Facsimile is more precise, but I wonder how many peoples know what really means...Thanks! Alex2006 (talk) 12:36, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Alessandro57 BTW I searched for an image of the fresco with a higher resolution but there isn't any on the net, it seems. I guess we'll just have to use what we have. BorgQueen (talk) 14:01, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I found one with 300 x 300 dpi... Alex2006 (talk) 16:02, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Where is it? @Alessandro57 BorgQueen (talk) 16:04, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
here :-) Alex2006 (talk) 16:06, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Alessandro57 thanks but the problem with that image is that the fresco's upper section has been cut. I think I'll stick to the image we have. BorgQueen (talk) 16:18, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, actually the first one is more decorative...OK, if I will find something better I will tell you, otherwise I will go the Museo Gregoriano Etrusco with my camera. :-) Alex2006 (talk) 16:33, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Alessandro57 Due to this suggestion at ERRORS, I've had to tweak the wording of praefectus vigilum. Apparently some of them love Latin. BorgQueen (talk) 10:49, 1 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hearst Castle on Earwig

I'm assuming you check it and it's fine so I'm not super concerned, but I did want to just do my due diligence and check with you about this one that you promoted. For Hearst Castle Earwig shows a substantial match with this Flickr description. The image was uploaded on May 12, 2018 (you hover over the "Date taken" date to show this) and the version of the article on that date does not match the description on Flickr so it's not a case where the Flickr author lifted the Wikipedia article from that date and put it in the description. They may have edited the description later to match Wikipedia but is there a way to confirm that this is what happened? - Aoidh (talk) 04:07, 21 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) @Aoidh: if you can find an old copy of the Flickr listing from the Wayback Machine, that'd enable you to do some manual date-for-date checking. theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (she/her) 04:12, 21 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I did check Wayback Machine and unfortunately that page isn't there. If I were a betting person I would put money on the Flickr page being a copy of the Wikipedia page, but the lack of comments about copyright checks on the GAR and the DYK nom made me a bit concerned. - Aoidh (talk) 04:13, 21 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, @KJP1: care to comment? BorgQueen (talk) 04:17, 21 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I took a deep dive into the history of the article and the version that matches that Flickr description happened organically over many different diffs by many different editors (example for the lede sentence) so while there's not a smoking gun archive showing that the Flickr description wasn't edited in later, the chances of that many editors making that many slow edits over a couple of years in a way that just happened to all end up copy-pasting a random Flickr image's description is practically impossible. All's well, I just wanted to see if you had a quick and easy answer to that concern that I wasn't seeing. It's likely nobody commented on the Earwig match because it didn't match when they checked and only was recently updated. - Aoidh (talk) 04:29, 21 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That's what I thought too. @Aoidh BorgQueen (talk) 04:36, 21 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Aoidh - BorgQueen, thanks for flagging, and to Aoidh for raising. I agree it does look concerning. I use Earwig for GAR and a 99.5% match would concern me. One is very clearly a copy of the other. So, the questions are - who copied from whom, and when? I can tell you which way round it was - Flickr copied from here at some point between 2020 and now. I wrote the Wikipedia article as it now largely stands in 2019, prior to taking it to FAC in 2020. As the article history shows, in May 2018 it was a very different beast.[1] I'm not very technical, and I have no engagement with social media, including Flickr, but I am absolutely confident that the version on there was not uploaded in 2018, as I hadn't yet written it. A section heading like The specter at the feast, which didn't exist in Wikipedia version in 2018, is a rather particular type of wording and there's no way the coincidence is random. What I'm not sure I can help with, is how my assertion can be verified. I have some experience in writing articles about buildings, and have successfully put a number up at FAC where they were subject to full Source checks. (As an aside, this one wasn't as it sank through lack of reviewer interest before that point.) But I don't want to cause any difficulty at DYK, so I've no problem if you want to pull it - as you know, I didn't actually nominate it. Sorry I can't be more help. KJP1 (talk) 06:36, 21 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I believe you. No worries. BorgQueen (talk) 06:39, 21 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@KJP1: No it's absolutely not a problem and there's no danger of the hook being pulled. As soon as I saw the extremely high match rate I was almost positive without even looking that a site had copied the Wikipedia article because that's (in my experience) almost always what that means. Since it is going to have many eyes on it on the front page I just wanted to be able to show that we had already taken a look and determined it wasn't an issue in case it popped up at WP:ERRORS or something. It's all good and the hook is a go, no issues here. - Aoidh (talk) 06:47, 21 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hearst Castle - again!

Festucalex - This is the DYK that just keeps giving. One word in the article lead is currently generating quite a lot of debate. I did caution at the time of the nomination (nominator copied in here) that it might generate some noise. The issue of the extent to which Kane is modelled on Hearst/Xanadu is modelled on Hearst Castle tends to generate quite a lot of heat. I've never really understood why. Anyway, not suggesting you do anything, just wanted you to be aware. All the best. KJP1 (talk) 09:45, 25 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Aoidh letting you know too. BorgQueen (talk) 09:46, 25 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I saw the concern noted at the nom page so I was kind of half expecting some kind of comment about this article, but the nature of this dispute is unexpected. - Aoidh (talk) 10:57, 25 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Aoidh If the edit war continues on the Hearst Castle article, we'll have to pull it. BorgQueen (talk) 11:11, 25 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah I was concerned about that very thing. Since it's only two editors involved and the edit warring seems to have stopped after the discussion started (no reverts within the last 24 hours) up I'm hopeful that it won't come to that, but if it does come to that and it needs to be pulled then you'll have no objections from me. - Aoidh (talk) 11:18, 25 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Huh. Festucalextalk 10:02, 25 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Assessment formats

Hi there, BorgQueen, and thanks for your work on assessments. I see that when working on Talk:Mira (YouTuber) you included a quality rating of B in the introductory "{{WPBS|class=b|blp=yes|". While this is permissible, it has the effect of removing the quality ratings from the wikiprojects which follow and can initiate downstream problems. I would therefore suggest that instead you add appropriate ratings to each wikiproject if they are not already there. An introduction of "{{WPBS|blp=yes|" is of course welcome. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 06:55, 29 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Oh OK. Hmm. BorgQueen (talk) 08:50, 29 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Ipigott I had actually done that to a few other articles as well! I'm reverting myself now. BorgQueen (talk) 08:56, 29 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your understanding. You may see I already edited one or two more in connection with women. And thanks for your recent biography of Maria Vladimirovna Mironova. We look forward to many more.--Ipigott (talk) 09:04, 29 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • I thought I should get back to you on this as after examining the effects of quality ratings in the banner shell over the past couple of days, I can see they actually seem to be working quite well. Please therefore forget my earlier comments and continue to use them. Apologies.--Ipigott (talk) 08:37, 30 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    LOL OK!!! BorgQueen (talk) 10:34, 30 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

re: pshaw and {{transl}}

I can't think of a reason PSHAW wouldn't handle that correctly; if it can't, that needs to be fixed, because i'm pretty sure we require {{transl}} under SG?language tagging. theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (she/her) 21:41, 29 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Oh OK thanks. BorgQueen (talk) 21:42, 29 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Le Corricolo

Hallo BorgQueen, I have a problem: a month ago I wrote an article which I submitted to dyk. The hook was initially approved, but after the approval a user came by and raised close paraphrasing problems. I tried to solve them (actually I think that I solved them :-)), but he was not satisfied and left at one point, saying that someone else would come by sooner or later. Since so far no one has come by, can I request another reviewer? Thanks, Alex2006 (talk) 16:17, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Alessandro57 I see you did request already. It just takes time. Can take weeks. BorgQueen (talk) 16:23, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
OK, thanks. I will wait then, no problem! Bye, Alex2006 (talk) 16:25, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Partially blocked editor repeating same behavior

Editor 망고소녀, whom you partially blocked from Martin Bormann after AN/I discusson, because of their disruptive editing concerning Bormann's children, has now begun the same kind of editing on Joseph Goebbels concerning Goebbel's children. [2]. I do not think it is disruptive yet, but it concerns me that they transferred their fixation from one article to another. Beyond My Ken (talk) 18:44, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Beyond My Ken: Noted, and I'm not surprised. Please let me know when their edits do become disruptive. BorgQueen (talk) 18:48, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
