Ethiopian Tewahedo bete-krestyan: or Ethiopia Orthodoxy church.

The Ethiopian Tewahedo Church (የኢትዮጵያ ተዋሕዶ ቤተ ክርስቲያን Transliterated Ethiopic syllable: Yeityop'ya te-wa-hido bete-krestyan): Tewahedo (Te-wa-hido) (Ge'ez ተዋሕዶ, ) is a Ge'ez word meaning "being made one" or "unified".

  • Church with great histroy:

The Ethiopian Tewahedo Church and Eritrean Tewahdo church are rich in traditions. They are the evidence of their long history to go back into prehistoric and early Christian times in Africa. Today with about 60 million believers in Ethiopia, 2.5 million in Eritrea and about 5 million outside the country, it is the largest of the family of World Orthodoxy /Tewahdo/ churches.

  • Church with great symbolism

The only still existing pre-colonial Christian church in Africa, the Ethiopian Tewahedo Church for many Christian Africans and their descendants around the world have a special symbolic meaning: it is testimony to the long religious and cultural history of the African continent.

The Ethiopian Orthodoxy biblical also includes both the Old and New Testament books which are regarded as apocryphal in the other churches, so the Bible this church among all traditional churches is the longest.

  • Life of faith:

The Ethiopian Christianity is deeply rooted in Judaism: Whether it is almost Old Testament regulations or the special significance of the ark.

The Ethiopian Tewahedo Church has its isolated position in the high country in the Horn of Africa, surrounded by advocates of Izlam (ኢስዝም) countries, preserving many cultural and the only tewahdo religious autonomy in Africa. Particularly striking are the many echoes of Judaism, which are probably the fact that the Christian believer identified by repeated reading of the Old Testament with the biblical Israel and Jewish faiths, such as the observance of the commandment.

The Ethiopian Tewahdo (Orthodoxy) Church knows an abundance of fast days (200 days). As a specialty within the Christian churches of the Ethiopian Tewahdo (Julian) calendar has a monthly recurring Holidays.

  • Between tradition and modernity:

Today 's tradition and modernity are the two poles of the Ethiopian Tewahdo or Orthodoxy Church tries to find its course.
