On January 24, 2024, The Globe and Mail, citing anonymous sources, published that five unnamed members of the 2018 team had "been given until later next week to present themselves to investigators to face charges of sexual assault".[1][2][3] Around the time of the Globe and Mail story, five members of the 2018 team took leaves of absence from their professional teams: Dillon Dubé, Carter Hart, Alex Formenton, Cal Foote, and Michael McLeod.[4][5][6][7] On January 21, the Calgary Flames announced that Dubé would begin an indefinite leave from the team. The team cited Dubé's mental health and said he was "under the care of health professionals".[8][9] On January 23, the Philadelphia Flyers announced that Hart would take an indefinite leave for personal reasons.[10] Formenton's absence was announced on January 24 by his team, Swiss club HC Ambri-Piotta. The team said Formenton had been granted an indefinite leave for personal reasons, and that he was allowed to return to Canada.[11] Also on January 24, the New Jersey Devils announced that Foote and McLeod had been granted indefinite leaves of absence.[12]
