Yanto dos Santos Laitano born Abril 26, 1973 in Curitiba, Paraná, is a Brazilian musician and composer.

Biography

Composer, pianist and BA in Composition at Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) in Brazil, Yanto Laitano started his musical studies at the age of eight. Since 1993 he has been actively taking part in the brazilian musical scene. His compositions, emphasizing solo pieces and chamber music, have been performed in concerts and recitals in Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Paraná, Uruguay, Ireland and Hungary.

Yanto Laitano has been taking part in musical festivals and composers meetings as the ENCOMPOR (Porto Alegre, Brazil) CEAMC (Buenos Aires, Argentina) ACADEMIE D´ETE at the IRCAM (Paris, France), the INTERNACIONAL BARTOK FESTIVAL (Szombathely, Hungary). He took part in workshops with Roger Reynolds, Brian Ferneyhough and Martin Bresnick. Original member of the contemporary music group Ex-Machina, as a composer and pianist, he has produced their first and second CD, both cds were sponsored by Porto Alegre City Hall cultural project FUMPROARTE. He produced, in 2001 the Celso Loureiro Chaves´ CD “Uma Idéia de Café” (prize “Açorianos” of Best Erudite Cd of 2001) and in 2000 the Maestro Antonio Carlos Borges Cunha’s CD “Pedra Mística” (prize “Açorianos” of Best Erudite Cd in 2000). From 1995 to 1997 he worked in a project about the piano music of Bruno Kiefer under a fellowship grant of the National Council of Cientific Investigation (CNPq) and the coordination of PhD Professor Cristina Capparelli. From 1998 to 2000 under the coordination of PhD Professor Any Raquel Carvalho he prepared ‘A Practical Manual of Modal Counterpoint’, ‘A Practical Manual of Tonal Counterpoint’, ‘A Practical Manual of Fugue’. In 1999 he won the prize of Best Original Score at the XXVII Gramado Film Festival for his composition work for the Super-8 short-film ‘The Vengeance of Kali Gara’. At the present he working on the executive and musical production by James Correa and Eduardo Reck Miranda´s CD and producing the Catarina Domenici´s Piano Solo Cd as welll the Multiple-X Festival in Porto Alegre, Brazil.
