CSD:G4

Just an FYI on usage of G4. I noticed you tagged "4 yo information" as G4, but that only applies where there is a previous AFD (MFD/TFD/etc) discussion that closed "Delete". In this case the article was previously deleted as a speedy deletion, so G4 doesn't apply; you can only use G4 if there has been a discussion. I still deleted the article though as CSD:A7, which is the original deletion reason.--Isotope23 19:21, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

Jake Owen

I don't mean for my re-adding the info on the Jake Owen page about Randy Owen to be malicious in any way. I just have seen too many references incorrectly asserting Randy is Jake's father that I think it should be on the page. I found one reference specifically addressing the fact they are unrelated; hopefully this removes the scent of original research. I just really think that this belongs somewhere on that page. I have no idea what that means that an image could be replaced by a "free" image, as per the Ashley Monroe image. Can you explain what exactly that is about? Do they mean pics taken at concerts and such?

Louis Carlet

On the AfD discussion you said that the sources meet WP:RS and WP:V. However, I just checked the sources: Two were articles in the Japan Times that promote the Union. Another was a classified ad, and the final one was an event listing. None of these satisfy WP:RS or WP:V. Please look through the history and check for yourself.

The three remaining sources are duplicates of those on the NUGW page. I don't know if you live, or have lived in Japan, but this person is simply not notable at all, and it appears that Union supporters are stuffing the page with bogus links to make him appear more notable than he actually is. Pages for singles

What is the reason for the new creation of pages for County artists' singles? I feel like that is a waste of effort and space. I mean, some songs that are very notable and well known do deserve pages but not every single, like on Joe Nichols' page, about 1/3 of his songs have articles on them. I mean, some like "Size Matters" just have one paragraph only. I don't think that "Size matters is a single by Joe Nichols" is enough to have an article on the song about. Unless this is some new Wikipedia rule or something like that.

Ceremonial Snips (Band) Protection

This band is being marked for notability in being a role model in the Niagara Region by promoting music as an outlet as Welland innovating the Ska Metal sound. The Speedy deletion that you have recommended comes without any reason in the discussion page of the Ceremonial Snips wiki. Further harassment will not be tolerated, as I have asked for information from music journalists across the region to document the information lost in the Bands most recent change in labels.

Conversion of canal water into drinking water

Hi.  :-) Many thanks for letting me know that I had forgotten to sign my nomination of "Conversion of canal water into drinking water" for deletion - usually I just edit articles, for which a signature is added automatically. Hopefully I have been more diligent in other areas where I recorded my opinion on issues with this and other articles.

You have recorded a "snowball" vote for deletion - should I just go ahead and delete this article then? I am just an ordinary user, and wasn't sure whether that would be proper protocol, or even whether I am able to perform such actions myself.

Getting too hasty in closing AFDs

I argued for keeping Billmon in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Billmon , but I think you were too hasty in closing it as a "Snowball Keep" when it had only been open less than 9 hours and had 6 contributions. I would not have seen it and would not have added 3 sources to the article if I had eaten lunch instead of editing Wikipedia! I like to see maybe 12 Keep votes over a 24 hour period before seeing an article speedily kept, so that the deletion debate has given every time zone of the world a shot at it. That said, I certainly will not be taking it to deletion review, and I give you my heartfelt thanks for your efforts to kep the AFDs cleaned up. Regards. I agree that you might want to chill out with the snow closures (pun intended). By and large I agree that you probably closed them correctly but you seem to be closing quite a few that have only been open a limited time and with a limited number of !votes. Bear in mind that a lot of poeple cannot access Wikipedia while at work, school, or (obviously) asleep, so speedy closing a debate with 8 or less hours means a large portion of people will never have a chance to chime in. It's probably more prudent to wait at least a full day before snowing a debate, with some obvious exceptions. I've seen a few of them get reverted too, which is probably a sign that you might be a tad bit too hasty with it. ɑʀкʏɑɴ 20:37, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

The article I referred to above looks like one deserving of closure as "delete". You have closed articles as a "non-admin delete" but WP:DPR#NAC says "In general, administrators are responsible for closing discussions about deletions. However, at times the various deletion discussions become backlogged. Editors in good-standing who have not been made administrators may close deletion discussions, with the following provisions:"..."Non-administrators should not close even unanimous "delete" decisions, as they lack the technical ability to delete pages." You closed an AFD Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Cartoon Network BLOX [2] , then later it looks like you added another name to the closing, [3] "SirFozzie" It would take an admin to actually do the mechanics of the deletion. Why is the name SirFozzie there?I do not see in User:SirFozzie's contribution history [4] that he did anything at that time in that AFD. Maybe I'm just reading it wrong. I see you are still doing it. You nominated Scottsdale Center for deletion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Scottsdale Center [5] and after less than an hour and 2 comments you apparently closed it, nonadministratively, [6] as a Delete. If you closed it (as opposed to cleaning up after an idmin deleted it, it was inappropriate when you yourself nominated it. Please leave AFDs open for at least 24 hours so that Wikipedians in various time zones have a chance to comment on it, or perhaps to find references to improve the article.     • Please show a diff which shows what time User:Philippe speedied it. I don't see it in his contributions log. Did he speedy it without the action showing up in the history log for the AFD, after TenPoundHammer nominated it for AFD, or did TenPoundHammer nominate it for AFDafter it had been speedied?     • Yes Philippe speedied it without noting in the AFD that he had done so. Speedy deletions do not show up in the deleting admin's contribution history. Have to click to the AFD, then access the history for the article from there. Wonder if this is a bug or a "feature?" ;-) When an admin speedies it, he should always note the fact in the AFD and also close the AFD, and if someone else is cleaning up after unnoted speedies by an admin, he should say so in the AFD closure, to avoid confusion, so there is not even the appearance of hocus pocus or impropriety. AfD attention request

Not sure if this is out of order, but there's a somewhat contentions AfD (here) that has received little outside attention. Since the AfD was initiated, a number of single purpose accounts (likely sockpuppets) have started editing (and discussing on the talk page) the article; not !voting, fortunately. In any case, I wanted to see if some AfD regulars could stop by and weigh in. I'm not looking to sway !votes here—I haven't targeted deletionists; I'm asking editors that seem to !vote a lot on music-related AfDs. No reply is necessary but your opinion is valued. While I think this would have been the final consensus, it's hard to tell since there was no discussion; if I'm reading this history correctly it was closed two minutes after opening, which seems a little hasty!     • This seems to be a concurrency problem in Wikipedia software. Jaranda speedy deleted it in the same minute someone else nominated it for AFD. When someone notices this and closes the AFD as a speedy PLEASE include a diff showing the speedy by the admin such as [7], because apparently these actions do not show up in the contrib log for the admin. Please do not leave the impression it was speedied inappropriately by a non-admin shortly after the AFD was opened. Thanks. Edison 21:20, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

Look at the history, for crying out lefore tagging any more articles incorrectly. You're just making more work for everybody else, and you're clearly not being careful about what you're doing. The tag says "no one other than the editor has made substantial edits". The only non-author edits were additions/removals of deletion tags, which I don't see as substantial edits. The author has requested deletion on the article's talk page, and someone else in the discussion suggested a G7 speedy, so I figured that a G7 was in order. The author did request deletion, on the article talk page. I'm not aware of any policy that says that the deletion request must be made specifically by the author's placing of a g7 tag on the article; in fact, I've seen it done other ways as well (usually by author's request in the AFD discussion). I would probably be more patient with you were you not currently in an Rfa, self-nominated. One expects people to be a little less hasty and a little more careful and thorough if they are stating "I am ready for the buttons" yet you are not. The A7 was just plain wrong; given the information I had available to me, the G7 was also wrong. Now I find that the author did indeed request deletion, which qualifies it for G7, but you didn't bother to mention that in your edit summary, or mention it to me when I posted here. Your edit summary was Requesting speedy deletion (CSD g7). using TW. I was unaware of the talk page request; you failed to inform me of it; had I not read NawlinWiki's post (appropriately placed here, where the discussion is, btw, rather than all alone on my talk page) I would still be unaware of that. Yet you still didn't bother to mention that very pertinent fact - instead, you argue False Authority, saying "NawlinWiki agrees with me" - what is this, my gang is bigger than your gang? G7 is author request. If the author made the request, G7 applies, so let people know that. If the author did not make the reuqest, it really doesn't matter how many people "agree with" you, its not G7. Do you see the difference? One is offering relevant data which affects the situation... the other is "Oh yeah? Well, so-and-so says I'm right" which is worse than useless. I don't mean to be short with you, but your choice of how you present the situation does not have any bearing at all on the situation at all. Do you understand what I am trying to say here? The AfD discussion itself already stated that the author requested deletion, and the request was plainly visible on the talk page for the article (a fact also mentioned in the AfD itself), so I (falsely) assumed that you already knew about the author's request. There's no way I can add anything else to the edit summary when using Twinkle; it automatically makes "Requesting speedy deletion using TW" as the edit summary, so that was my only option in the edit summary. (Actually, this is what happened at my last RfA too -- during the course of the RfA I only did a bunch of stupid things to prove that I'm so not ready.) I came at it from the other end; doing CSD duty (backlog is very long right now). Twinkle doesn't allow editing summaries at all? I can see auto-fill in, but it ought to allow for additional text... I can't remember who wrote twinkle, perhaps they can update it? There should be a graceful way to inform people who come at the article from a different direction, but if TW doesn't let you edit summaries, that makes it more of a pain. I don't use TW, myself - how much trouble is it to "drop out" of TW and add the db tag and summary manually? KillerChihuahua?!? 22:45, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

I want to leave you with some advice, you can take it or leave it--I also could be a complete idiot too. First of all, you appear to eager to become an admin for admin's sake. I've observed two of your RfA's, and in both cases, you left the distinct impression that you wanted the admin buttons not because you wanted to help the project but because of some other reasons. Whether that impression is true or not, it's the one you've left with a number of individuals. Second, I think your responding to some of the opposes leaves a bad taste for me personally. I don't want to pile on here, because I think you need to read over the RfA responses, cutting through some people who have a vendetta (the prima facie evidence response didn't sit well with me), and getting to the few that have stated reasonable and logical comments about your application. There are very connected admins in this project--individuals who give a lot of volunteer time, whose support or opposition to any issue can be crucial, and who can help you. You need to mentored by one of those admins--maybe they can even nominate you. I can tell you there are certain admins that if they throw their weight behind an applicant, I'm there, and so are a lot of people. Take a deep breath, take some time at this project because you love the project, not because you want to be an admin. Sorry to see you were not handed the key to the mop cupboard. You are getting some good advice above, and you will hopefully learn which areas you need addressing. Consensus is one thing you stumbled on; If a majority is misquoting or misapplying a rule/policy, consensus goes with the minority who are getting it right (which is why admins have to know policy).

Technically, and an RfA is not a vote process. It's a community discussion, where consensus is sought. A bureaucrat (I believe) reviews the discussion and attempts to see if there is a consensus.
