WorldPublicOpinion.org is an online publication and resource for public opinion about international policy issues. It releases new poll findings and gathers and synthesizes polling research from around the world. It covers issues such as globalization and trade, war and peace, human rights, climate change, views about nations and international institutions, and governance. Examples of its own polling include Afghan public opinion about the overthrow of the Taliban, parallel surveys of the Russian and American public, and a poll of Iraqis following the election of their new government in December 2005, and again in September 2006. WorldPublicOpinion.org is published by the Program on International Policy Attitudes (PIPA), a non-profit research program affiliated with the University of Maryland, College Park.

Some of PIPA/WPO’s best known studies include global polls conducted with GlobeScan for the BBC World Service, often covering 30-35 countries; a study linking viewership of Fox News to misperceptions of facts concerning the war in Iraq, as well as other topics.

WorldPublicOpinion.org draws upon a body of public interest polling in the U.S. as well as elsewhere, conducted by organizations such us the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, the German Marshall Fund of the U.S., the Pew Research Center, the Eurobarometer, and the Levada Center in Russia.

In June of 2007, WorldPublicOpinion.org, in collaboration with the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, conducted an in-depth study of world-wide opinion on a series of international issues, including climate change, globalization, the future of the United Nations, US leadership and the rise of China. Based on a survey conducted in 18 countries, the project seeks to understand how the perspectives of people around the globe differ or converge on issues of international importance (report cover pictured below).
