Friedrich Wilhelm Schnitzler (* 16 December 1928 – 15 July 2011 in Ohnastetten ibid^[1]), known as Fritz Schnitzler was a German farmer, politician in the CDU party and a manger of German economic matters. He was the founder and an official of the district farmers’ union in Reutlingen and of the state farmers’ union in Baden-Württemberg.

Life

“Fritz” Schnitzler was a member of the municipal council of Ohnastetten and deputy mayor from October 1962 through December 1974. During this time he was also a juror of the district court in Tübingen. After the community redistricting he was mayor of St. Johann, a community of Ohnastetten and a member of the city council. Having a masters’ in agriculture he managed an agricultural farm as a secondary occupation and was sworn in as an appraiser of wildlife damage. The farm official and community politician for the CDU party was voted in as the head of the farmers’ union of Reutlingen and in 1975 merged it with that of Münsingen, thus founding the district farmers’ union Reutlingen e.V. From 1962 to 1992 Schnitzler was the county chairman of the district farmers’ union of Reutlingen, co-founder and first lobbyist of the state farmers’ union in Baden-Württemberg in the state parliament in Baden-Württemberg under Lothar Späth and worked closely with Ernst Geprägs. Friedrich Wilhelm Schnitzler was the first political representative of the professional farmers of Reutlingen county. After 1992 and until his death Schnitzler remained honorary chairman of the district farmers’ union of Reutlingen and lecturer at the Swabian Agricultural School in Bad Waldsee. His exceptional commitment throughout his life always belonged to the agricultural community. He worked especially hard to mold the areas of milk production and processing in which he brought about structural changes which brought about changes within the profession and which also had political consequences. Schnitzler was also played significant roles in the founding of the district women’s union and the district women’s chorus. He opened the first political assembly of the district farmers’ union Reutlingen, Candlemas, in St. Johann, and so brought the first Candlemas celebration into the community. Schnitzler was deputy director of the milk processing plant in Reutlingen and chairman of the board for district milk quality control in Reutlingen e.G. (BMV), which has been known as the Milcherzeugungsgenossenschaft (MEG) Reutlingen e.G., milk production cooperative Reutlingen, since 1996 and served as honorary chairman until his death. As chairman of the board, Schnitzler also led the milk processing company Südmilch AG headquartered in Stuttgart. In 1984 received the Federal Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany from president Karl Carstens and presented by state secretary Ventur Schöttle.

Family

Friedrich Wilhelm Schnitzler lived with his wife and son in the suburb of Ohnastetten in the community of St. Johann (Württemberg). The family managed a 30 hectare farm focusing on milk production as a secondary occupation. Schnitzler was also a member of the cattle breeders association, the Bavarian agricultural goods exchange association (BayWa), and the German Agricultural Society (DLG).
