Background (And Username)

My real name is Vijay John. My parents are from Kerala, but I was born in (or near) Cleveland, where I was baptized by Philipose Mar Chrysostom Thirumeni. However, like my parents and brother, I am atheist.

I have a website (http://www.jaimalayalam.com) that teaches Malayalam. It can also be found on the Malayalam language and Malayalam script Wikipedia pages (in the External Links sections). It is in serious need of technological and organizational improvement.

I am primarily interested in foreign languages (in this case meaning languages other than English) and linguistics.

"Kuaichik" literally means "one yuan" in Tibetan.

I speak thirteen languages fluently (or used to...I currently try to review some of them), so I will keep improving Wikipedia articles in various other languages. By "fluently," I mean that I can have a conversation with a native speaker. These thirteen languages are the following: English, Malayalam, French, Spanish, German, Russian, Turkish, Mandarin Chinese, Portuguese, Thai, Latin, Hindustani, and Swahili.

My Edits on Wikipedia

I had previously created the Ankur (film) page. However, I encourage others to participate in the modification, and I apologize profusely if anyone was trying to edit while I was editing. (As a side-note: I love that film! It's become my favorite!!)

The other page I have created so far is Piya Ka Ghar, a simple but realistic and naturally acted Bollywood film.

I have created most of the Fan Li page. I have used only one source (a comic book version of 经商宝典) because it is the only source I readily have at my disposal. I invite anyone to correct and dispute my changes, however.

Planned (Possible) Pages

Whenever I get the time, I might also make pages concerning the short story collection Payyan Kathakal, Sorabistics (see e.g. Sorabistik), Dr. P.K. Narayanappilla, Mayura Sandesam (mayuurasandeSam), Malayalasaakunthalam (malayaaLaSaakunthaLam), N. Ramakurup, Chakki Chankaram, the Kingdom of Tolosa, various Romanies (including Schutka Weinrich, Sidonie Adlersberg, and Janusz Kwiek), the Terranova Incident/Case of 1821, Francis Terranova, Vaisakhan, Ormayude Paalangalil, and Keralapanineeyam (kEraLapaaNiniiyam). I might also consider making pages dealing with some of my more famous family members (if I decide that they are important enough to form Wikipedia articles).

I have decided it is unlikely I will make pages on Indian art films or Romani genetics, or for that matter, Standard Mandarin and Hindustani transliteration.

Planned Edits

I once tried to edit the page on Kalidasa, but it didn't work because I took too long to enter the information and it was all lost. (Maybe I will eventually try again!). I have made a few edits to Pather Panchali and even fewer to Malayalam language, but I might need to make more. I have also edited the article for Chemmeen.

I also am thinking of improving the V.K.N., Mirza Ghalib, Kalakkaththu Kunchan Nambiar, Swathi Thirunal Rama Varma, Disciples of Confucius, Jawaharlal Nehru (concerning his national language policy), Chinese language (the Romanization section), Muziris, Calcutta trilogy, rice congee, Boyash, Aji Ichi Monme, Chatino, People's Republic of China–United States relations, and No Reservations pages, as well as the articles for Satyajit Ray's other films and Romani-related articles.

Planned Translations

At last, the Spanish Wikipedia is larger than the Swedish one! I might continue edits every now and then, whenever I can spare a bit of time.

Later, though, the languages I translate to and from may change.

I was thinking of creating pages for nearly all of Satyajit Ray's feature films in Spanish. However, I realize that the equivalent pages in English are underdeveloped and will probably edit those pages first.

It might be a good idea for me to also translate some articles into English, such as that of the "Lycée Leconte de Lisle" in Réunion (which is available only in French). In particular, after signing up on the German Wikipedia, I notice that many of its articles contain some information not yet included on the English Wikipedia (and vice versa, of course). For this reason, I plan to make improvements based on information from the German Wikipedia as well.

Wiki Failures (Sigh)

I have a list of what I call "Wiki Failures." I consider them "Wiki Failures" because they are not (or were not) objective by Wikipedia standards. The "Wiki failures" on my list (as of the last time it was edited) are the articles on Gopal Krishna Gokhale, Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, Abhijan, Michael Madhusudan Dutt, and (in spite of my efforts to remove POV and nonsense) Malik Bin Deenar. I haven't looked well enough lately to tell whether Hindi and Romani people are currently Wiki failures.

In fact, at this point, maybe the others should be off the list. I haven't checked yet. But if I remember correcty, Central African Republic (or some closely related article) underestimates the ethnolinguistic diversity of that country. Also, Zargari Romani incorrectly claims that UCLA considers this language to be a "secret language of artisans" (or something like that); UCLA is referring to something else called "Zargari," which is a language game based on Persian. (This is, incidentally, what the Global Recordings Network also has samples of and incorrectly labels a variety of Balkan Romani!). And this is nothing more than a ridiculous insult to my language by some IP with few edits. My language is one of the 50 most widely spoken languages in the world and the native language of the painter of *all three* illustrations in that article, not to mention apparently the only language mentioned as having 25 translations of 'Abhijñānaśākuntalam'!

I think I can remove Pratidwandi now. The Midnapore and Mirza Ghalib articles used to be on my list, but they have been substantially improved.
