Baseball on Wikicities

Hello Johntex, Googie Man here and I want to ask you something because you're a Wikipedian and sports fan. Jimbo and Angela have made a new webstie called Wikicities. This link in particular will take you to the baseball Wikicity. As you'll see it's similar to Wikipedia, but my hope is this will allow baseball fans to do more and different things, like reporting on games, in depth statistics, create mulitple pages for pictures, and whatever else baseball fans care to create. You've done great work on Wikipedia and I was hoping you could help get this baseball Wikicity off the ground. Please let me know what you think either at my talk page, or you can email me at [email protected]. Thanks! Googie Man(Talk), 16:06, 5 January 2006 (UTC).

Request for adminship

Hello Johntex, it's me User:Mb1000. On September 26, 2005, during my last self-nomination for adminship, you left a message on my requests for adminship page stating that you would consider supporting my nomination at a later date. Like any self-respecting campaigner, I want to make sure that the support is their before launching another self-nom. I would like to know if you would now be willing to support my request for adminship. Thanks. --Mb1000 22:35, 7 January 2006 (UTC)

Thank-you for your response. I am glad to see that you do your research before supporting a candidate. The allegations of vandalism you are mentioned are false. I have been an anti-vandalism advocate on Wikipedia since joining. Yes, I did get into a pretty ugly edit war (my first one), but trust me, I did not enjoy it. A particular user, Madchester, has attacked my particular version of the article Square One Shopping Centre. He claims that it contravenes Wikipedia image policies, and is grossly arranged. I disagreed, and still do. I took the issue before the AMA and the user who took our case sided with me on the issues. Madchester did not care one bit about the desicion of the AMA menber, he simply brung up other "reasons" for taking my version down. He simply kept reverting my edits, and I kept reverting them back, often with some salty remarks in the edit summaries. The page had to be locked for a while, but things have finally calmed down. I hope that this childish episode will not be counted against me. Everybody makes a mistake they regret. (remember Bill and Monica? :) I'll be the first one to admit that I could have tried harder to avoid an edit war by just backing down, but I guess that's just human nature. I hope that I still have your support. --Mb1000 19:07, 10 January 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the explanation. You say you "hope that this childish episode will not be counted against" you. I think that mistakes should count against people and not be forgotten. At the same time, those mistakes have to be considered in context of mitigating factors and also balanced against other factors. In this case, your forthrightness, your contrition, and most importantly, your good work overall, are persuasive to me. Therefore, I would be comfortable voting to support your nomination based upon what I have read. Please let me know when your nomination comes up so that I may register my support. Naturally, I have not looked at every single one of your edits, so if someone points out that there are lots of other "mistakes" in there - I'll be obliged to look at the new evidence. Hopefully there are no such problems waiting for you. I wish you the best of luck in your nomination. Johntex\talk 20:00, 10 January 2006 (UTC)

Young/Bush

Hmmm... well, local sports folks in Houston think Bush is going to be Houston's pick. I think there is a lot of popular sentiment to ditch Carr (sour grapes) and pick up the hometown hero, but that'd be dumb, if you ask me. Carr is still young and has a lot of good games in him, just had a crummy season. And let's face it, our offensive line didn't help him much this year! I think Bush is the way to go for the Texans, personally, but I can understand folks wanting Young. It's good this year to be the worst. ;) · Katefan0(scribble)/mrp 20:38, 10 January 2006 (UTC)

Dsmdgold admin nom

I see that you have opposed my request for admin, which is fine. However I am confused as to your reason, which you give as "Oppose per Dsmdgold's reasoning". I'm pretty sure I didn't argue against my own nomination. Can you clarify? Dsmdgold 01:20, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

I assumed that something of the sort had happened. I realized that my poor showing on edit summaries would be a problem for some. I was abit taken by surprised by the rest of PS2pcGAMER's reasoning. Very early in my career at Wikipedia, I "recieved" messages left for vandals, and was somewhat confused by them. I'm still not convinced that leaving messages for obvious one-off vandals is a good idea, especially since the You have new messages message at the top of the page is going to pop up at the next user of the IP address. I, however, respect that there may be other opinions. Dsmdgold 01:43, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

Alex Bakharev

Hi Johntex, please forgive my coming by to discuss your vote at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Alex Bakharev. I just wanted to share with you that while I agree with you that edit summaries are very important, their presence or absence may make a difference between a good and a better editor. But note, that an excellent editor and a good admin, while often found in one and the same person, are actually two rather different things. We all know what a good editor means and there is no need to elaborate.

But good admin is first of all commitment and the highest standards of personal ethics (not to use the tools you are empowered with inappropriately). Alex expressed the highest virtues in both the commitment and personal ethics, especially in view of an exemplary decency of how he handled certain individuals that committed to derail his Adminship and even dared to use sockpuppets for that. Besides, since Alex actually checks all new articles created at wiki (an amazing commitment) the admin tools will come very handy since he is willing to do a cleaning part of admin duties, unlike most of our admins who, usually, just remain regular editors.

There is no doubt that have been pointed out so clearly at this nomination about the summaries, there is no doubt that he will not be forgetting about them anyway after this discussion and votes.

I respectfully request that you give another thought to your vote. If you choose to study the nomination page to make up your mind, please study all of it so that you won't miss any issue. By no means I intend to pressure you and should you choose to keep your vote unchanged, I will not be contacting you with further pressure. --Irpen 01:55, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

Bounty source

Greetings:

The AFD nomination for Bounty source was closed early because the page was a copyvio. The article was subsequently recreated in a form that was not a copyvio. In the process of listing the page for AFD again, I ran afoul of the fact that there was a pre-existing AFD discussion already on the same AFD log (Jan 12) as the new one would be. So I can either re-open your closed AFD, or I can create a new one for the same article on the same day.

I can see an argument for either approach, but I would personally prefer to avoid having duplicate entries for the same article within the same AFD log. So I will be re-opening the closed AFD. I have no strong feelings about this one way or the other, however, so if you think the process would be better served by adding a second AFD nomination for the same page on the same day, feel free to revert me and add a new entry.

All the best.

Block

Yes, the new version of mediawiki installed a few months ago allows banned users to edit their own user and talk pages. Not any other pages, though. There is a "bug" in the mediawiki software that will sometimes unblock people if they have concurrent blocks of differing time periods (i.e., two people have blocked a person -- one for 24 hours, the other for 48 hours. When the 24 hour block wears off, the 48 hour block is also lifted). However, I don't think that's the case here. I suspect someone has unblocked her. Let me check the block log. Katefan0 21:22, 13 January 2006 (UTC)

Oh, wait, she was just editing her own talk page. Yeah, that's all it is. Blocked editors can still edit those two pages. Katefan0 21:24, 13 January 2006 (UTC)

Hi,

I've responded to your comment on the noticeboard. This is urgent because that page they vandalize is very dynamic. I need your help.

Thanks,

Primetime 02:20, 14 January 2006 (UTC)

Hello Primetime - thanks for your reply. I am sure this is very frustrating for you and I can empathise with your pain.
I have looked again at that one specific example. It seems the user reverted to a previous version by Impel. I don't know why they would do that. Perhaps anon is Impel. Perhaps anon just thought Impel's version was a better version. Either way, it still looks like a content dispute, and there does not seem to be a 3RR violation recently.
I think you have done the right thing by soliciting discussion on the article Talk page, I suggest you also place a similar message on the anonymous user's talk page. If the user(s) fail to engage in discussion over their changes, then a block might be warranted. However, blocking a shared IP address is a serious step. I for one, am not willing to take that step unless other remedies have been exhausted. Johntex\talk 02:43, 14 January 2006 (UTC)

Texas v. USC

On the 1995 Nebraska Cornhuskers page, you changed a reference to the Texas Longhorns, instead of the USC Trojans. I don't feel that is an accurate change since no direct comparison was made between the two teams during the regular season. The controversy exists now, but you might as well say LSU '03 and USC '03 should enter the debate, since the same comparison was made between '03 Oklahoma and '95 Nebraska, even though that Oklahoma team ended up losing before they won the national title.Quiller 06:31, 15 January 2006 (UTC)

Hi Quiller, thanks for your note on my Talk page. The 1995 Cornhuskers have definitely been compared to the 2005 Longhorns. Whether it was before or after the end of the season does not seem to be material. An encyclopedia must take the long view. Comparisons made after the end of the season are at least as valid as those made during the season, probably more so. Whatever happened to the 05 Trojans, anyway?  :-) Seriously though, Wikipedia thrives on references, so if you can find a mainstream media reference comparing the 95 Huskers to the 05 Trojans, feel free to add it in. I'll help you create the footnote if you don't know how we do that. Again, welcome the Wikipedia. Oh, and please end your comments on Talk/Discussion pages with 4 tildes, like this ~~~~. That makes it a lot easier to reply to you. Best, Johntex\talk 04:19, 15 January 2006 (UTC)

The comparisons throughout the season, coupled with ESPN's year-end fan poll comparing the Top 11 teams to USC, as well as the pre-game hype... al of it centered on USC, not Texas, being the 'best of all time.' In that regard, I find it to be misleading to cite Texas in line with the other teams since 1995 that have been mentioned as competitors (namely: Miami 2001 and Oklahoma 2003). Yes, Texas won the final game, but at the least both teams should be mentioned. Otherwise, we're just turning in Texas as another name, even though the comparisons have not really been thoroughly presented.Quiller 06:31, 15 January 2006 (UTC)

Hi Again, I like your recent change to the article - mentioning both teams. Again, Wikipedia thrives on references, so it would be great to find a website or an article that we can point people to concerning the comparisons. Even better would be one with some facts and not just opinion. I see you created a user page - you may want to use Lincoln, Nebraska. Again, it would be helpful if you put the 4 tildes at the end of your messages on Talk pages. Best, Johntex\talk 05:45, 15 January 2006 (UTC)

I'll work on finding a reference. Until then, a joint distinction will suffice. Sorry for the signature; still trying to adapt.Quiller 06:31, 15 January 2006 (UTC)

That sounds great about looking for a reference. Again, I'll help you correctly format it if you need help. No problem at all about the signature, there is only about a million things to learn around here. I've been here over a year and I've got just over 999,900 things to go! Johntex\talk 06:40, 15 January 2006 (UTC)

Good reference on Texas; I changed the link, as it's actually a list of the best season performances, not a judgement of talent or ability. Invariably, us Husker fans need to learn how to live life with a challenge to our 'greatest ever' label, so I added a short disclaimer to the last paragraph. Hopefully we're both satisfied, and perhaps 2005 Texas and 1995 Nebraska will just have to share the title?

Very elegant change! I'd like to set-up my Xbox to run 100 simulations of the '95 Huskers against the '05 Horns - but all that would prove is which team was programmed to be better in the game - which wouldn't prove that the game makers got it right. If settling things on the field is the truest indication of which team is better, I'll let my mind drift back to the '06 1996 Horns vs the '06 1996 Huskers.  :-) That still stands as my favorite upset of all time. Johntex\talk 21:49, 16 January 2006 (UTC)

Hold on: I hope you meant the '96 Big 12 Championship game... otherwise you might be implying a prediction of Nebraska upsetting Texas next year, which I won't dare to comment on before we know for sure where V. Young is headed... or until the Huskers do or don't show up against USC in the non-conference. Quiller 21:55, 16 January 2006 (UTC)

Oops. Yes, of course I meant the '96 Big 12 Championship game. (fixed in the above) What do you mean about the Huskers showing up against USC. Does Nebraska have USC on their schedule for 2006? Johntex\talk 21:58, 16 January 2006 (UTC)

The Huskers have the wondeful opportunity to lose to USC (second game) and Texas (conference play), unless they pull a Penn State and turn around completely. With that in mind, at least one local columnist has made a radical comparison.

Ah-hah. I didn't realize Big Red had the Trojans on the schedule. What is the all-time record between those two? Of course, I'll be rooting for Nebraska - Nothing against the men of Troy, but I always support the conference in non-conference games. Johntex\talk 22:07, 16 January 2006 (UTC)

Not sure of the over-all record, but I know the hype is already building. John Walters at SI has the game listed in his pre-game games to wait for, and winning at USC is definitely the type of boost that would put the Huskers back into the national spotlight... and make the matchup against Texas a possible preview of the Big 12 title? • Dear OldWindyBear - thanks for the reply on my Talk page. I have looked into Talk:Battle of Tours and it is very clear that those comments made about you were extremely innapropriate. I have deleted them. It is unusual to delete comments from article pages, but doing so is permitted if there is something outrageous there, as there was in this case. Still, it is better that the deletion be done by an outside party, such as myself. Note also, that the comments are still there in the history of the article - practically speaking, nothing ever actually deleted on Wikipedia. Things are just removed from the current version of the page. I also researched the history of the Talk page to see who left the comments. The comments were left by an anonymous user. I have blocked that user from editing Wikipedia for 24 hours. Normally, we would issue several warnings first, but in this case I deemed the case to be clear-cut enough for an immediate block because (1) The anonymous account had made no positive contributions to Wikipedia in the past and (2) The attack was quite severe. Best, Johntex\talk 03:13, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

John, may i humbly thank you for deleting those comments? I know I have made mistakes with my efforts here -- but for instance, if you look at the compliment the article on the Battle of Tours just got, I wrote much of that article and felt enormous joy at having been a part of something positive. I am determined to follow the rules, and that is why I came to the administrators, and asked them to act. I am proud of my service, and I am proud I went to school -- i was the first one in my family to go to college! Anyway, I am learning. You will NOT find me doing things I should not. You will find me trying hard to contribute. Thank you for deleting those comments. I won't lie - I had to wonder why someone would hate me so badly who did not know me. Anyway, your earlier advice, I hope you noticed, was followed. i did NOT delete or touch comments someone else wrote. I will learn the rules! Thanks again. old windy bear

Houston McCoy reference on Charles Whitman article

Hello Johntex,

As Power of Attorney for Houston McCoy, and as the person who got McCoy his diagnosis, SSI, Texas Workman's Compensation Award, you're reference in the article that McCoy is still seeking medical bills reimbursement is incorrect. The City of Austin brought a lawsuit against McCoy and prevented him from receiving the award or medical treatment that he desperately needs, after the Commission Awarded McCoy $2160.00 and treatment for his Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The APD, Mayor's Office (under Kirk Watson), and the University of Texas have all refused to help McCoy or any of the victims of August 1, 1966, which goes against the Connelly Commission recommendations of 1966. Also, McCoy doesn't live in Central Texas; West Texas.

Quick question

Hey John — In looking through the request for rollback privileges proposal that I hoped would pass, I noticed that most people opposing were administrators who claimed that anyone applying for rollback would be able to pass an RfA. I felt that this stood in stark contrast to my observations of the RfA process, which can be pretty brutal. It also made me wonder what my chances are of passing an RfA. I know you're on a bit of a wikibreak, so don't let me take up any of your time, but I was just wondering if you had any ideas regarding that, as you're an administrator I respect alot and who seems to know a bit about RfA. --bbatsell | « give me a ring » 20:22, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

I burned some pics on a cd in 2002. Now I can't open the pics. It says that a plug-in is missing or the files are corrupt. When I burnt the cd i could open the pics (on my old pc) even from the cd. What's going wrong and how can I recover the pictures? Thanks! deeptrivia (talk) 03:09, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

Without more information the only thing I can assume is that the CD is damaged (scratched, warped by heat, etc.) and your CD drive is having trouble reading the header of the CD (the part at the beginning where it gives information about the rest of the CD).
It may also be that the pictures are in an old format that your PC doesn't recognize, but I can't tell without more information : ).   freshgavin TALK    03:30, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

By the way, it shows all the files and their correct sizes. But when I open them, it says they are corrupt. deeptrivia (talk) 04:00, 27 January 2006 (UTC)
What kind of files are they? (What is the file extention?)   freshgavin TALK    04:04, 27 January 2006 (UTC)
They are all JPG files. deeptrivia (talk) 04:04, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

Hmm, it's a little bit odd that it shows the file info correctly but won't display the images. If there's no visual damage to the CD (obviously look for scratches or strange coloring on the data side) then there's a few other possible reasons. Some types of blank CDs don't work so well in some types of CD readers (problems generally come from cheap CDs and cheap CD readers) so you could try it on someone elses computer.   freshgavin TALK    04:28, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

Agreed, try a different CD player. Specifically, be sure you are using a CD-only reader. Combo CD/DVD readers sometimes make compromises to support both formats that can cause reading errors. StuRat 07:05, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

I can't say if this will definitely work, but you can try Isobuster. --Uthbrian (talk) 07:19, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

This does not sound like a broken CD. The message doesn't suggest that at all. "Missing plug-in" is all about software. Make sure you are trying to open the JPEG files in a suitable program. DON'T just double click on them. Notinasnaid 09:08, 27 January 2006 (UTC)
Try to find a copy of the program you saved them with -- it may have idiosyncracies in its format that show up as corruption to whatever you're using now. Night Gyr 12:08, 27 January 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for all your messages. The CD is not damaged, i think. There are abt 10 folders on it, just one doenst work. I burnt three sessions on it (almost all photos). The folder i burnt on the last session, doesnt work. I tried to upload one of the pics on wikipedia, to give an idea of the kind of corruption it might be, but it doesn't upload it, giving the error: "The file is corrupt or has an incorrect extension. Please check the file and upload again." What can I do? deeptrivia (talk) 15:00, 27 January 2006 (UTC)
Could you upload a sample onto a public webspace somewhere? Tripod will give you 20MB quick. enochlau (talk) 17:26, 27 January 2006 (UTC)
Here is a sample picture. Could you suggest a good software to recover as much as possible from corrupted JPGs, or some other means to rescue these pictures? Thanks!
Okie dokes. I couldn't get it to open, and I think I have evidence that your CD is borked. I opened up the file in a hex editor, and the JPEG magic number that I found at the start of all my good JPEG files was found in the middle of the file, so the CD is probably indicating where the files start/end wrong. Also, large sections of the file were the same character, which is unusual for a JPEG file, since it's not a bitmap - further suggestions that it's corrupted. :( enochlau (talk) 22:38, 27 January 2006 (UTC)
The file is OK except that it has 4096 bytes of garbage in front of it and presumably an equal amount of data missing from the end. I've uploaded the image without the first 4kb here. This suggests that enochlau's guess about the start/end offsets on the CD is probably correct. There are programs that can recover JPEG files from corrupted or accidentally formatted disks by scanning for the magic numbers — you may want to try one of them. Those programs usually can't handle fragmented files, but since CDs are normally never fragmented you should have no such problems in this case. —Ilmari Karonen (talk) 23:51, 27 January 2006 (UTC)
Thanks a ton Ilmari and enochlau! You guys rock!! Could you tell me how did you fix this file, and how can I do the same? Can you suggest a good program which does this thing automatically? deeptrivia (talk) 01:55, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

Scouting Barnstar

    • Could you go back and vote one more time. We're trying to build a consensus on a star. Thanks! evrik 18:20, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

Scouting Barnstar - Where to put it?

I believe that the award that was created for the Scouting Barnstar should be a topical award. Scouting is a world-wide movement that has served youth in many countries for more than 100 years and represents the youth of the world at the United Nations.

It has been suggested that the award be given as a PUA. The first line on the PUA page reads, "This page provides a collection of awards created by individual Wikipedians." The Scouting Barnstar was created by the WikiProject Scouting.

Currently, the is a discussion going on at Wikipedia_talk:Barnstars#Removed_the_scouting_barnstar. Please comment there if you are interested.199.200.253.9 17:08, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

Moron

Hi there, you just removed a "personal attack" of mine which was just a humorous copy edit of what another guy had written before at Talk:2003 Invasion of Iraq. Would you delete that too, please? Get-back-world-respect 20:23, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

Yes, thanks for pointing that out. I've removed those other two mentions of the word "moron" as well. Johntex\talk 20:27, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
Well, good. I think that whole article discussion has become a big mess. I have already seen something alike at NAMBLA: when a topic is really controversial, some very passionate users discuss so much that others feel deterred to even participate and in the end there is an article written by extremists on both sides most normal users would never set up this way. What do you think about the anons statement that it may not be a good idea to have an article about a war dominated by two soldiers of one of the conflicting sides? I think it is great to have the opportunity to work with people who were directly involved, on the other hand, it seems to me as if they were trying to "liberate" neutrality. Get-back-world-respect 20:38, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
I have not been closely following the discussion about that page. At a high level, I tend to agree with you. Controversial articles have a tendancy to drive out anyone interested in a middle-of-the-road postion. In my view, both "invasion" and "liberation" are POV. I'd prefer "war" or (since the current state of events does not look like a "traditional" war) we could use "military conflict". Johntex\talk 21:01, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

Autofellatio

Why did you revert the image on autofellio? You forgot to leave an edit summary. Cheers, —Ruud 03:22, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

I can't speak for Johntex completely, but I do know that a similar image of an actual person fellating themself is on the MediaWiki bad file list and cannot be displayed inline. The drawing has been deemed OK to be shown inline but not an actual image. Thanks. — Scm83x talk 03:50, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
Thanks Scm, that is exactly right. I used the "rollback" feature to rv the change. Unfortunately, the rollback feature does not include a place for the edit summary, only the information who is being reverted and to what version. Johntex\talk 03:55, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for the response. I was trying to see how fast I got reverted actually to prove a point regarding the Jyllands-Posten_Muhammad_cartoons_controversy. Would you mind if I put it back in again to see how people respond?

Ruud 04:03, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

I'm sure John will say this again in a second, and I'm sorry for butting in, but never ever disrupt Wikipedia to prove a point! — Scm83x talk 04:06, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
  • (After edit conflict - *Grin*) Hmmm... Interesting. I sort of do mind, actually, because of WP:POINT. We have to remember that anything we do in the article space is visible to all readers, and not just editors, or administrators, or whoever we happen to be in a debate with. That would also include mirrors that come along at just the right/wrong time. I really do appreciate your civility, though. Johntex\talk 04:12, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
Never mind, I'm going to give up on this. Just find it strange that people insist putting a potentially offensive picture at the top in one article, but won't allow potentially offensive pictures to be included in others. —Ruud 04:16, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

Thank you...

Wow, you definitely know the way right to my heart. Shiner and Salt Lick BBQ. Although, last time I was at the Salt Lick (for a Texas Student Publications annual banquet), I got kicked out along with the entire rest of the staff of The Daily Texan, KVR/KVRX and the Cactus. Oops..... the yearbook staff, which Texan staffers thought were too big for their britches, chose to wear formalwear for our banquet (honestly -- everybody else was in shorts). As an everyman protest, the Texan editor did kegstands during the yearbook editor's speech. Her boyfriend, a strapping Marine, didn't like this display and he started wailing on the editor. Madness followed, and we were told to get out and not to come back unless we brought our own security!! Our shirts that year read "No Longer Welcome at the Salt Lick." =) · Katefan0(scribble)/poll 17:32, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

I never did, either... too young. But I remember my (much older) sisters going there when I was a kid, and I remember the bumper stickers all over town. This was actually one of my sisters' buckles, and I've now appropriated it for my own nefarious uses! Can you think of anywhere else to stick the image? Thanks so much, John!

Thanks so much for the kind words, dear John - they surely mean a lot to me. I must confess you I'm somewhat exhausted after the effort I went today... I had never made 200 edits in a single day before! ;) I'm extremely happy and honored to welcome you aboard, and I simply love the article you wrote for Gourd Dance; I read it all with a smile on my face. Again, thanks so much for joining, and I'm sure we'll talk a lot more in the future... especially when I'm not this sleepy! Kisses, Phædriel tell me - 01:50, 11 February 2006 (UTC) PS. you never finished that joke you once posted at Katefan0's talk page... now how did that go... oh yes! "Two Longhorns and a Sooner walk in a bar..." (be careful what you say! ;) *smooch*

As per WP:IUP#Image titles and file names, would it be possible to re-upload these images with more descriptive file names? Also, it will help to cite on the image description page the exact channel or network you took those screenshots from. Thanks. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 23:07, 11 February 2006 (UTC)

Who was the vandal that got your image, Image:IMG 1714.JPG? Were they blocked? I've placed your image on my watchlist, and will keep an eye on it and the article. Will upload the other two images here, from commons so we can watch them too. --Aude (talk | contribs) 01:43, 12 February 2006 (UTC)
Nevermind. It was {{Current sport}} that was vandalized. --Aude (talk | contribs) 01:57, 12 February 2006 (UTC)
Hi - thanks for your help with the vandalism of that image. The user was an anonymous IP address who had previously been warned for vandalism. I blocked him/her for 48 hours. I am in the process of replacing the 3 images I uploaded today with new versions having more descriptive file names. I am also updating all the links to the new images. I will post back to you when I have completed this. Thanks again for your watchfulnes. Johntex\talk 01:58, 12 February 2006 (UTC)
Sounds good. I posted a request on Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard for protecting {{Current sport}}, since it's at the top of so many pages including 2006 Winter Olympics. Maybe you can protect it, or maybe it needs more consensus among admins? --Aude (talk | contribs) 02:04, 12 February 2006 (UTC)
Thanks. Seems perfectly reasonable to me, though willing to hear any possible objections. --Aude (talk | contribs) 02:14, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

Hi John!

How are you today, dear John? :) Phædriel tell me - 00:18, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

Indeed, I did rest great - I had been the entire day on patrol, and then I came home and stayed up for another 5 hours working on the project... whew! amazing what wiki-adrenaline can do, isn't it? Yes, hun, you're right; many people are getting more and more involved, which is great considering my lack of expertise in many tribes and other subjects, like linguistics. It pleases me greatly to see more users edit the project page and add their thoughts and ideas. Thanks so very much for your kind words, your excellent contributions and enthusiasm with our project, John. As long as people like keep on working on it, I'm sure it'll get better and better ;) Btw, if you ever come to OKC, just let me know. I know it's quite a ride from Texas, but it's worth it, believe me ;) *hugz* Phædriel tell me - 00:32, 13 February 2006 (UTC)
Yes, I've been there a couple of times in the last two years; in fact, I posted a pic that I took when I went there last time at my Image Gallery. I must confess to you that the image of myself some people here seem to have is not very accurate - some seem to assume that, just because I'm proud of my ancestry, I dedicate myself to dance in Pow-wows and have never seen anything but desert in my entire life... I love the sea, and if I could move to Cali, I would give some serious thought to the idea. So perhaps there's a bigger chance that it will be me who shows up at your door someday! ;) Phædriel tell me - 00:47, 13 February 2006 (UTC)
With a little luck, I can take a few days off in a couple of months, so don't tempt me, Johny! ;) I have to go for a while, baby, *huggz* *smoochies* ttyl! Phædriel tell me - 01:03, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

Wikibreak

I am very busy at the moment and will not be around much this week, maybe 2 weeks. We'll see how it goes. Johntex\talk 16:01, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

RFA

Thanks for suggesting adminship. I've been doing fine as just a user, and reluctant to nominate myself. Though, having the rollback button and ability to protect templates (in rare circumstances, like the olympics vandal), would be useful. I'm familiar with the three standard questions, and could prepare my answers tonight or whenever. Thanks again. --Aude (talk | contribs) 22:26, 13 February 2006 (UTC)
