2015

2014

July 15, 30-minute phone conversation with Lila Tretikov, the new Executive Director of the Wikimedia Foundation, about Wikipedia.

May 30, the first Wiki Conference USA, I spoke as the first part of a panel on the gender gap on Wikipedia.

2013

September 4, The film with my interview in it, made for Public Interest Registry by David Eberts of CloudRaker, is up on you tube and PBS has expressed interest in airing it. I have signed a release form in case that happens.

June 20, An article on the Wikipedia gender gap by Yermi Brenner, which includes quotes from me and an image of me, is published online here.

June 2, An impromptu afternoon free group tour of AMNH, for 9 Wikipedians including User:MrJohnCummings of GLAM London, plus 2 others.

April 22, I was interviewed by Yermi Brenner, an Israeli-American graduate student at the Columbia School of Journalism. He is writing a piece about the gender gap on Wikipedia and any conflict or inadequacies that it may have caused.

February 23, Wikipedia Day get-together in NYC, a 5 minute talk on the necessity of making intros perfectly clear to non-specialists and avoiding jargon. I was video-interviewed by Laura Scheiber of the EdLab at Columbia University, resulting in an EdLab video report or vialogue here.

February 14 On Valentine's Day, a video is sent out to 150,000 American Wikipedia donors, featuring Invertzoo talking about the creation of the Love dart article, here, video by Victor Grigas, wiki123.

2012

October 23, I was mentioned and quoted in article by Maura Ewing about Wikipedia in Salon (website), here. This was based partly on her interview with me from earlier in the year.

October 4, I was interviewed by phone by the Wall Street Journal about editing and editors who engage in disputes over relatively trivial content points. The article as it finally appeared is here.

July 6, Wikimania takes Manhattan [1] I made possible a free visit for 35 international Wikipedia editors to AMNH in NYC.

March 8 Wikimedia blog: The kind, gentle approach to retaining new editors by Matthew Roth, about Invertzoo's approach to retaining new editors, based on an interview.

February 29, I was the subject of a film interview in my home for a short documentary being made for Public Interest Registry.

2012: Wikipedia Day 11th Birthday Bash NYC[2], a lightning talk about the role of WikiProjects in user retention, and participation in Open Space.

2011

November 30, I was interviewed by Dana Blakenhorn for an article for Opensource.com.


October, A telephone interview with the Wikimedia Foundation is used to create a international fundraising appeal banner featuring my image and words. I also supplied two photos that they used. During testing before the appeal was launched, my banner outperformed the one featuring Jimmy Wales. The banner ran in November and December. The official report about the 2011 fundraising campaign is here.

June 25, WikNYC Picnic [3] Spent 4 hours at the picnic, encouraged some new people to start editing the 'pedia.

20–22 May, GLAMcamp NYC [4] I put in a brief appearance at AMNH, meeting with several of the participants. A partially torn ACL and a pulled Achilles tendon prevented me from doing more.

January 15, Wikipedia Day 10th Birthday Bash NYC [5], I gave the Keynote address, "WikiLove: On the Wikipedia Community", and was interviewed by CBS and PRI. A pdf version of the WikiLove presentation is here [6].

2010

October 7, Wikimedia Foundation fundraiser, NYC Invited to attend a fundraiser event [7] to talk to donors and potential donors about Wikipedia. Also attended the pre-event meeting on October 6.

August, Interview Interviewed by Dennis Chanay via Skype for an article (here) about unpaid labor that briefly mentions Wikipedia in The Fiscal Times, an online publication.

April 26, Interview in The Wikipedia Signpost, April 26th. Interviewed as part of the Signpost's "WikiProject report" on WikiProject Gastropods, here.

9th WP B'day coin

March, Interview on film Interviewed on film by documentary filmmaker Trina Rodriguez, who hopes to make a film about what goes on inside Wikipedia.

January 24, Wikipedia Day NYC On Sunday January 24th, at Wikipedia Day NYC 2010 [8], gave a lightning talk, an update on WikiProject Gastropods. pdf of the slide show is here.

2009

July 25, 1st Wiki-Conference New York

Saturday July 25th 2009, a 20-minute presentation on WikiProject Gastropods, part of panel B-2 on Collaboration and WikiProjects, 4 pm–5:30 pm, room B, (i.e. room 220) at Vanderbilt Hall, NYU School of Law. General info here.

August 17, 1st annual Wikipedian Picnic in Central Park, NYC Attended just three weeks after starting on Wikipedia.
