RE.CO.DE (re.co.de) is shorthand for a radical change in how people can work together. It helps addressing critical and complex issues. It is Open Source, having emerged from multiple sources. Therefore, it doesn't belong to any person or organization.

RE stands for iteration. An iterative design process seeks to develop the whole from the very beginning and to add levels of definition and understanding over time. It allows for simultaneous work on parts and the effects of those parts on the whole. Working iteratively allows better feedback, and the incorporation of emergent behavior into the solution.

CO stands for collaboration. Collaborative approaches support decisions – by design – and unleash collective intelligence. Instead of relying on known expertise, it is more valuable to call forth the ideas and insights of the problem's human ecosystem. All the stakeholders are in co-design with others and the results are often much superior.

DE stands for design thinking. This is an approach which creatively draws out the ideas of large groups of contributors and users, combines them with objective facts and leading practices in effective new ways, iterates and tests the models that result, and generate concrete decisions, products, actions or processes.

The RE.CO.DE concept aims to help the world transition to a better place for all. It is a state of mind. There are also many concrete applications, in order to obtain sustainable (ethical, reliable, global, self-corrective...) solutions to complex systemic problems. RE.CO.DE can be applied through fast-paced problem solving processes. In large applications, it is sometimes called WorkSpace.

The RE.CO.DE approach has been developped by a large network of process designers through multiple process design experiments with a number of organizations, including Governments (European, UK, US, France...), NGO's (Coordination SUD, Oxfam, Greenpeace, Save the Children, Amnesty International...), multi-laterals (United Nations Agencies, World Bank...), foundations (World Economic Forum, Index:, Young Global Leaders...), corporations (ARUP, BBC, Nokia...), state bodies (British Council, Nesta...), schools and universities (Cambridge, Centrale, HEC...), research institutes (CNRS, INRETS...)
