If the page is about Mathew White, then it should be on a biography page. The generally accepted term is "mass killings". I've added Milton Leitenberg's estimate (Cornell University and CSIS) and more background in the field. I emptied and deleted Category:Nonagenarians according to Wikipedia:Categories for deletion. There's an archive of the discussion at Wikipedia:Categories for deletion/Category:Nonagenarians. I merged some of the contents with Nonagenarian, but I think that article is really supposed to only list living nonagenarians (otherwise it seems an overly broad category, especially today). I was using a 50mm lens on a Yashica FX-D from 1983. If I recall correctly, it was at f16 and 250ms. If it does need correcting, please feel free to do that. I am afraid I am strongly of the opinion that it is as good as many of the featured pictures, and would like to see it promoted. So, if you can make it look better, be my guest. Unfortunately, my camera, clearly, is film. This picture is from a Photo CD rendering. I can attempt to scan it in at a higher resolution (is currently 1.6 megapixels) if that would be helpful (as you can see, my digital editing skills are less than brilliant!). Geostrophic wind

Hi Denni,
I added a comment on the talk:Wind page. There is a passage in the Wind article that I think is muddled. Please have a look. I wrote most of the current article on the coriolis effect. In writing the coriolis effect explanation, I aimed as much as possible to facillitate understanding of wind dynamics.

I wish I could provide you my sources for the geostropic wind component of the wind article, but it's been some time since I wrote it, and I have no idea where I got the information (save that it was from a reliable source). Please do not hesitate to make corrections as you see fit. One of the great things about Wikipedia is that you can fine-tune the work of others, and if you find the explanation I provided muddled, I will not be offended if you can improve it. I will edit the section on synoptic winds. My background is physics, so the physics of what I write will be correct, but I may be unaware of certain conventions or definitions in meteorology.

Your source must use rather idiosyncratic definitions. In physics centripetal force is the centerdirected force that maintains circular motion. In (roughly) circular airflows around a low pressure area the pressure gradient force provides the centripetal force that is necessary to maintain the circular motion. In all three: geostrophic, gradient and cyclostrophic wind it is the pressure gradient force that provides the centripetal force.
I'm unsure what to make of 'long straght isobars'. For linear motion of air you need the situation that the force is at an angle with respect to the direction of motion. The isobar would have to move sideways as fast as the velocity of the wind. --Cleon Teunissen | Talk 11:53, 15 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I think that in the case of isobars it is not helpful to refer to what would occur on a non-rotating sphere. In the case of very small circular currents, like dust devils and somewhat larger, where influence of the coriolis effect is negligable, the rotation of Earth is unnoticable. But above a certain size range the direction of the circular flow is determined by the coriolis effect, illustrating that above that size range the atmospheric dynamics of a rotating and a non-rotating sphere are incomparable.
William M Connolley wrote on the Talk:wind page that the geostrophic approximaton is applicable only when the isobars are parallel to latitude circles. Usually, he writes, the contributors coriolis effect and centrifugal force must both be taken into account, (but the two cannot simply be added, I infer that a weighed average of the two must be used).
Anyway, William has reverted my changes, arguing that the dynamics was being discussed too much in-depth for the scope of the article, and I decided to go along with that. It leaves an editorial dilemma, I think. Should it be mentioned at all that meteorologists take both coriolis effect and centrifugal force into account? What does that information add if it's not explained to the reader how different these forces are? As William wrote, currently the sections 'synoptic wind' and 'winds defined by an equilibrium' overlap in what they present. Louis Riel

Hi Denni, thanks for your kind words about my contributions so far to the Louis Riel article. I just wanted to let you know what my plans are for the Peer Review... I intend to finish going through and rewriting all of the LR article, with a fairly high level of detail. It will take a bit more time than I originally thought. The only problem is that this will probably swing the pendulum too far the other way, and the article will grow too large. My intention is that once I finish with LR, I will spin off bits that don't seem directly relevant to LR to Red River Rebellion and North-West Rebellion, and try and bring these articles to a higher standard as well. User:JamesTeterenko has also agreed to work on really buffing out the trial section, and much of this will eventually be spun off to Trial of Louis Riel. Yes but Armenian Genocide is disputed. Neither you and I can determine the facts. A misleading pro genocide claim is not open minded wikipedia material when there is significant oposition.

Louis Riel, redux

Hi again Denni. I just wanted to know that I think I have more-or-less accomplished what I aimed to do with Louis Riel during the peer review. The size is now back down to about 41kb after ballooning to 50+ when I was writing the RRR section. So when you have a chance, please give it a careful once-over, and consider whether you would like to renominate it for FAC. Of course, there is still room for improvement - the Trial of Louis Riel sub-article is unfinished, and North-West Rebellion is still in woeful shape. But one article at a time! Red River Rebellion I think I can get to near FAC status in a couple more days, I just need to rewrite the lead paragraph, add a couple of things here and there, and merge back some information from the old article that existed there before I moved so much stuff there from Louis Riel. Alberta article

Yes, I have lived in Alberta all my 38 years (mostly Edmonton), except for my 17 months in Montreal. I'll admit I get a little uptight about spelling sometimes--I must remember to take a deep breath. For non-Canadian articles, I leave spelling as is or make as few changes as necessary to make the article uniformly en-GB or en-US, but for Canadian articles I try to use the Canadian Oxford's first-listed spellings. Thanks for your response. So if you have in fact used all of those listed as references, just call the whole section references, and format the external links as at Wikipedia:Cite sources. If you don't have the time to do that, let me know and I will do it. The problem with an "External links and references" section is that could mean two references and ten external links that are not really references. By your comment I hope you don't think WP:FAC is the wild wild west or something. It's just there are so many great articles and referencing is so important, that we have standardized on it.   • It is =not= incoherent nonsense. Yes, it's nonsense, but according to the guidelines for speedy deletion, incoherent nonsense is along the lines of "shm-la-la apundigo nreeeeeee to Pougkeepsie." This article is not speedy deletable, and must go through VfD, unfortunately.
  • I think it qualified as patent nonsense "Content that, while apparently meaningful after a fashion, is so completely and irremediably confused that no intelligent person can be expected to try to make heads or tails of it." However, since you disputed the deletion, I have undeleted and re-listed it for VfD. Well, I was actually interested if you had some actual use for it, i.e. a reason past general "why not keep it?" I was following advice from the help desk. I had idiotically not followed through on a red non-link for Roti Canai, when there was a perfectly wonderful Roti canai article. I'm sort of new here (March) and I didn't realize article names were case-sensitive. So, because there was a red non-link for Roti Canai in the Breakfast article I've been editing, I assumed, stupidly, that there was no article, and I started one. The newly-created account User:Hikato claims the information is verified in "A Brief History of Chinese and Japanese Civilizations" by Conrad Schirokauer, a book that is used as a college textbook. As you say, I'll put it through the normal deletion process. I guess I just assumed that there was a criterion for speedy deletion that corresponded to pages that the creator created in error and no one else had edited yet. I made the page (it's a copy of Deaths in January 2005, btw) having forgotten that it can't be sucked in through {{/January}} the way that articles under Wikipedia: can. Additionally, while I was figuring that out, I discovered that in a couple of places in the (inconsistent) Wikipedia style/policy pages it is mentioned that subpages shouldn't be used for anything other than proposed changes. I don't really agree, but I felt I should go along with it.

Hi. You uploaded Image:Bluesky.jpg and then uploaded the Image:Bluesky2.jpg which is a duplicate of the first.
