Brett Herman (Born March 12, 1982 in Longmont, Colorado) is an American artist known for his surreal & dark visual art, as well as his dedicated work in the tattoo community. He is most noted for creating and co-authoring multiple art publications and has accumulated various awards for his work as a Tattoo Artist. He was awarded a New York Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, As well as served as a curator and participant in numerous art exhibitions across the world.

History

Brett Herman was born March 12, 1982 in Longmont, Colorado, He was engulfed in his passion for the creative arts and music at an early age, He won the New York Scholastic Art & Writing Awards in his formative years. He moved to Los Angeles, California in 2001 in pursuit of a music career and put his dream of the academic arts on hold. Living his dream of playing Heavy Metal music on the stage of the world famous Whisky a Go Go with his band The Alagash, He was fortunate enough to share the stage alongside some of his favorite bands, The Acacia Strain, The Faceless and Into the Moat. Brett decided to re-direct his career path from musician back to his first true love, the Arts. After graduating from a tattoo apprenticeship in 2008, Brett Herman quickly carved out a name for himself in the tattoo industry with his attention to detail, unique illustrations and his love of dark and macabre imagery. He quickly gained a reputation as a sought out tattoo artist from Southern California, and has since received multiple awards for his color and black and grey work in the tattoo community and been published in numerous tattoo publications and magazines. He's curated multiple art shows and exhibited in many of the top art galleries across the globe. Brett Herman is the creator of The Coloring Book Project volume 1 and The Coloring Book Project 2 (adult coloring books) and Sketched Out (a collaborative sketchbook project) and has co-authored several magazine articles for other various publications.

Works

Brett Herman's works are influenced by his interest in dark art, horror movies and skateboarding graphics, creating fine art and custom tattoos since 2008. He gained his notoriety as a designer exhibiting his work in art shows and tattoo festivals across the globe. His most notable work as a designer, is the album cover design and layout work for the Black Powder Soul LP by Nashville recording artist Taylor McCall. Which was published by Rolling Stone Magazine. Brett Herman is the creator of The Coloring Book Project volume 1, The Coloring Book Project volume 2 (adult coloring books) and Sketched Out (a collaborative sketchbook project published by Memento Publishing. Brett Herman has co-authored and been included in several tattoo magazine articles. Brett Herman opened Hidden Los Angeles tattoo & fine art in West Hills, California in 2012 and has curated multiple art shows, as well as hosting numerous workshops. Brett has exhibited in over 100 art shows in some of the top galleries in the world alongside many of the worlds most renown artists and illustrators of the century, including: Alex Pardee, Alex Ross, Gerald Brom, Chet Zar, Christopher Ulrich, Dan Quintana, Greg Simkins, David Palumbo, David Stoupakis, Dos Diablos, E.M. Gist, JAW Cooper, Ken Kelley, Luis Royo, Luke Chueh, Nikko Hurtado, Nychos, Peter Gric, Rick Baker, Roger Dean (artist), Ron English, Shawn Barber, Simon Bisley, Skinner, Terry Wolfinger, Tom Bagshaw, Travis Louie, Victor Castillo, Vincent Castiglia and Wes Benscoter.
