Template talk:WikiProject Caribbean

Please amend the way this template categorises articles

At the moment it is placing talk pages in categories where they have no business to be. Please fix this. On a broader issue, making the template so complex that other people can't edit it (and indeed telling them not to) is hardly in the spirit that anyone can edit wikipedia. Wikipedia is for everyone, not for computer programmers, and features that work against that are unwelcome. In my opinion the "damage" has already been done when this category was given inappropriate features. LukeHoC 19:09, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure that it is placing talk pages into incorrect categories. Do you have an example? As for the esoteric syntax, that is standard for WikiProject banners. I don't know of a way to make the template do what it needs to do without making the code complex. Jwillbur 22:22, 3 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

editprotected This template categorises some articles within the project Netherlands. While this may or may not be ok for the Netherlands Antilles to some level (ie these Caribbean island are part of the kingdom of the Netherlands), the Netherlands project does not use importance levels. Hence this template should under no condition place any article in a WP:Netherlands importance category. It messes up the WP:Netherlands project stats. See the table in: Wikipedia:WikiProject Netherlands. Can someone please change this either by removing any automatic placement within the Netherlands project, or by making sure it does not carry over importance levels. Thanks Arnoutf (talk) 21:03, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Done, sounds fine to me. All appears kosher. --lifebaka (talk - contribs) 22:19, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, the problem is gone (and will be gone from the table as soon as the bot rebuilds the table in a few days). Arnoutf (talk) 20:49, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bad categories

editprotected Several things:

 • Change "Category:Unassessed-Class Jamaica articles" to "Category:Unassessed Jamaica articles"? The first does not exist, the second does.
 • Remove "", since WP Puerto Rico does not use a parent category for all its articles (see Category:WikiProject Puerto Rico)
 • Shouldn't there be a <noinclude>Pp-template</noinclude> at the top, to let people know that it is protected and why?

Thanks. — jwillbur 18:52, 21 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Aruba and C-class

editprotected When an article uses the parameters class=C and Aruba=yes, the article's talk page appears in Category:Unassessed Aruba articles and Category:Unassessed Netherlands articles instead of Category:C-Class Aruba articles and Category:C-Class Netherlands articles. – Ilse@ 21:31, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Declining, since this sounds more like a bug report than an edit request. If anyone can figure out the exact changes needed to fix the bug though, please re-submit.  :) Thanks, --Elonka 23:11, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It seems that C-class was only partially implemented. Can someone please make the following changes?
In the section that begins "<!-- WikiProject Bermuda-->", add this line:
|C|c=
below the B class line (begins with " |B|b="). Do the same (add them to the appropriate country's section) for the lines listed below:
 • |C|c=
 • |C|c=
 • |C|c=
 • |C|c=
 • |C|c=
 • |C|c=
 • |C|c=
 • |C|c=
 • |C|c=
 • |C|c=
 • |C|c=
 • |C|c=
 • |C|c=
 • |C|c=
 • |C|c=
 • |C|c=
 • |C|c=
 • |C|c=
 • |C|c=
And replace this line:
|C|c=
with this one (typo fix):
|C|c=
Thanks. — jwillbur 23:57, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Done! Thanks for the detailed request. :) --Elonka 05:42, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your efforts. I believe the bug is not fixed for Aruba. Could this line be added:
|C|c=

Underneath (quote) "|MAIN_CAT = Latin America articles" (/end quote) That should be changed to " Cat:Caribbean articles " since it isn't likely these articles are going to be cleaned up under Latin America which is a separate Wikiproject. not to mention "Cat:Latin America" has over 33,000 articles in it it is large enough to be split. 2 updates

edit protected Hi- Could someone add the "pagetype" switch into the Main Text field? Also, in the nested field for U.S.V.I., could you update it to "U.S. Virgin Islands", using periods in "U.S."? (i.e., it's usually "U.S." and "UK", not "US" and "U.K.") Thanks --Funandtrvl (talk) 17:06, 8 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Template-protected edit request on 4 September 2014

I would like the template admins to amend |TF_8_MAIN_CAT=Haiti articles to |TF_8_MAIN_CAT=WikiProject Haiti articles, in my attempt to fully resurrect the Haiti Project. I believe such a move will enable the special attention it needs to flourish and it is better from an overall wiki perspective. Thank you kindly. Savvyjack23 (talk) 18:56, 4 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

OK, there are presently 1,781 pages in Category:Haiti articles and 309 pages in Category:WikiProject Haiti articles. Done so let's see how it changes: current counts are 0 and 6,490. --Redrose64 (talk) 23:19, 4 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Curaçao

Curaçao has no WikiProject banner. It should be included.Minaulos (talk) 18:19, 18 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Minaulos: Only if there is consensus - has it been discussed at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Caribbean? --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 09:35, 19 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Caribbean/Archive 1#Curaçao in project template. If the parameters are implemented, should probably be as {{{Curaçao|{}}}} and {{{Curaçao-importance|{}}}}, since many editors are not careful about diacritics.  — SMcCandlish ¢ ≽ʌⱷ҅ʌ≼  09:01, 14 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Removing fully-independent WikiProjects from this template

Cuba, Haiti, Trinidad and Tobago, and Grenada are all independent WikiProjects that are using their own banner templates: WikiProject Cuba, WikiProject Haiti, WikiProject Trinidad and Tobago, WikiProject Grenada, thus they should be removed as task force parameters of this template. This is similar to the situation of WikiProject Puerto Rico, which was removed from this template a while back. Task force parameters should only exist for projects that aren't using their own banner templates. Unless anyone objects, I will be migrating all uses of those parameters to the corresponding dedicated WikiProject banners and removing those 4 task forces from this template some time in the next few weeks. For additional context, please see meta:User talk:Community Tech bot#Current issues in popular pages. Kaldari (talk) 17:26, 27 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I concur. Thanks Kaldari. Savvyjack23 (talk) 04:28, 28 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
If this is to be a similar exercise as was carried out a few months back for Template:WikiProject Central America, I believe that this will be fine. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 16:33, 28 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
What I'm seeing at present is that Cuba, Haiti, and T&T retain entries, but to their full wikiprojects (as is the case with many others), while Puerto Rico has just gone missing. This is not desirable. Either everything that's not a taskforce/workgroup should be removed, or all the relevant regional wikiprojects should remain listed; don't selectively "disappear" one or a few random ones.  — SMcCandlish ¢ ≽ʌⱷ҅ʌ≼  09:05, 14 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Cuba, Haiti, and T&T still haven't been migrated (despite multiple Bot requests), which is why they're still included in this template. As soon as they are migrated, they should be removed as well. Kaldari (talk) 01:34, 13 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Kaldari:, this wasn't ever done for, at least for TT, was it? Guettarda (talk) 21:42, 6 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Guettarda: I'm pretty sure none of these have been migrated. I might try to do them myself if I have time, but who knows when that will be. Kaldari (talk) 21:53, 6 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Change

tf 6={}

tf 6={{{United States Virgin Islands|{}}}}

and change

tf 6 importance={}

tf 6 importance={{{United States Virgin Islands-importance|{}}}}

Reason: Creating a shorthand. Having to type out "United States Virgin Islands" is so tedious, especially since "USVI" is a very common shorthand. That long parameter name will make it easier for people to tag articles as being under that task force.  — Mr. Guye (talk) (contribs)  04:35, 13 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Why is this removing -importance in one case?  — SMcCandlish ¢ ≽ʌⱷ҅ʌ≼  07:29, 14 September 2017 (UTC) Never mind; I see that was just a typo.  — SMcCandlish ¢ ≽ʌⱷ҅ʌ≼  08:51, 14 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The Curaçao option does not yet work.  Buaidh  talk contribs 01:58, 16 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Well, no; it's not a documented parameter, and that is because it is not part of the template. It was never added to the template, which in turn is because at #Curaçao above, no consensus for its addition was demonstrated. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 08:48, 16 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The template has a duplicate "TF_5_NESTED" parm error which is causing havoc in Category:Pages using duplicate arguments in template calls.

Near the bottom, the line:

|TF_5_NESTED = Turks & Caicos Islands

should be:

|TF_6_NESTED = Turks & Caicos Islands

Why are all B articles suddenly C class?

e.g. Talk:Andros, Bahamas @MSGJ: ? Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 22:32, 15 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

According to Template:WikiProject Caribbean/class this project is using the B-class checklist. But it was not set up properly apparently. If you remove the b1-b6 parameters from that page they should be classified properly as B-class — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 18:46, 16 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
