Core design?

Aren't the Vista class ships themselves direct derivatives of the Carnival's Spirit class ships? It's difficult to confirm, because the cruise lines prefer saying their class designs are unique ... but I've seen it written before that the Vista and Cunard ships are evolutionary off-shoots of the Spirit class. --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 16:53, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've actually seen claims that Spirit class are an offshoot of the Vista class (impossible of course). I've always been under the impression that Spirit and Vista are similar due to the requirements of the Panamax dimensions, but if you can provide a reference for this, we should probably chug in Spirit class as well. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kjet (talkcontribs) 10:49, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
After searching, the only places where I could find it were primarilly cruise forums/message boards - so not WP:RS. I did find this link, which is linked from the MS Queen Victoria article as a reference; but because it refers to the Spirit class as part of the Vista class (Spirit came first, so impossible), its statement is questionable and I wouldn't rely on it.
After looking a deck plans of Spirit v. Vista, I now agree with you that they are similar due to the panamax requirement, and the designers of the Vista likely were inspired by several elements of the Spirit class which they carried into those designs; but there are fundamental differences in the construction of the two classes that can't be easilly explained as just evolutionary changes. Influential, yes ... same class family, no. --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 17:35, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
