There seems to be a disagreement regarding the inclusion of red links in this template, of which there is no official policy or clear editorial guideline to fall back upon. I argue that these links are acceptable since each college/school merits its own article (and several have already been created). Thus, at some point these articles will be created. However, since this template is updated infrequently and several of these articles received very low traffic, it makes sense to create these links in advance. Take the University of Maryland School of Architecture, which has had an article since June but does not have a link in the template (and, every time I re-add that link, the current red-link-warrior removes it!). That article is therefore deprived of visibility. At any rate, I do not see the harm in having a few red links in the template for all of the schools and colleges to encourage the creation of their articles and to ensure they will have a link once they are created, rather than months after the fact. --Tom (talk - email) 23:41, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That is just it, academic colleges are typically not notable on their own and should not have their own article. - You cite the University project's own guideline, which has not necessarily attained project-wide consensus. Every constituent college of Oxford University and Cambridge University have articles. Some are very historic and important, but others have been created as recently as last year. The same is the case for many American schools, such as Michigan State University, the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of Chicago. Does every college/school in every single minor accredited university in the United States deserve a separate article? Probably not. At least not until the main articles for those university's are substantial themselves. But for a school as large and prominent as the University of Maryland, and with a main article as developed as its is, each individual college probably does indeed warrant an article.
